sync calendar with ICS on a webdav-server via GPRS - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

My calendars are stored in several iCalendar-Files (*.ics) on a webdav-server (www.gmx.net). Is there any Pocket PC software to synchronize the ppc-calendar with that ics-files on the webdav-server? I already found Kalyx (http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=19635) which perfectly downloads my appointments, but damages my ical-file when uploading and can only upload via WI-FI/USB initiated by the user.
Is there a software or other possibility to synchronize the calendar in both ways and - if WI-FI/USB is not available - via GPRS and automatically when any change is made to the calendar? Or any workaround to always have the ical-files on the webdav-server up to date?
tia.

im interested in this solution too!
A ppc software would be great. Alternatively maybe there are web interfaces for editing these ICS files directly on the server.

Is there a solution for this?
I think WEBDAV would be useful for my calendar on Win Mobile 6.5.

Software for Syncing Outlook Categories?

With WM2003/SE, I used Intellisync or Chapura Pocket Mirror to sync Outlook categories and MightySync for folders - an added bonus was only having to set up a "Guest" Activesync connection to make this work, making the whole process a lot faster and practically troublefree.
In comparison, I found that extended use of a full Activesync partnership would continually disrupt my PC and my LAN and internet connections and corrupt Outlook. Not to the extent of meltdown, but enough to irk and cause unnecessary hassle (usually at the wrong time).
With WM2005, the Activesync experience worsened considerably. Outlook 2003 and WM2005 are barely cordial and it's a nuisance having to shut down AS 4.1 before I can reboot my PC - AS is also so damned slow!
The only app I can find that's compatible with WM2005 is On-Schedule Sync (www.odysseyinc.com). I can't tell from Intellisync's website whether they support WM2005, but I've tried and failed with their latest version.
Chapura state that they will release a compatible version, but haven't a date yet. This info is at least 4 months old!
Does anyone know of any other software besides On-Schedule that will work?
Also, Pocket Controller Professional syncs folders (very handy app, this!), but MightySync doesn't appear to (at least, not for me).
have you tried on schedule yet? i downloaded it... but the overtheair option looks like it's not included on the trial version. intellisync didn't work for me either, neither does SEVEN. the other programs i used to use (symmetry prot, infowave, etc... don't support single users anymore).
really need a push mail client compatible with my work env (no IT support, exchange server). i hate my blackberry!!!!

How to synchronize with Lotus Notes (+)

I've downloaded last version of Lotus Easy Sync Pro (4.2.3), but it doesn't support WM5 and i seems to me, that IBM stopped development of further versions
Does anybody know alternative products, which can synchronize data between WM5 device and Lotus Notes, particularly phonebook and diary.
Try this http://www.ianywhere.com/products/xtndconnect_pc.html
I would encourage you to try mnotes at www.commontime.com. I've used it for a couple of years with great success.
I've used Intellisync to link my Wizard with Lotus Notes 5.
http://www.intellisync.com/pages/Products/Intellisync-Handheld-Edition/
Intellisynch
Hello,
Do you know where I could find this intellisynch version plse ?
Thx.
Commontime mNotes works the best IMO.
I did try...
I did try, but for an unknown reason, the mnotes server does not start. I have the status : "mNotes Server: Error".
Would you have an idea ?
What is more, in the Communications Tab, the method is TCP/IP on the port 603. I cannot change it knowing the pocket pc (rw6828) is connected through active sync USB. I am lost. Thanks for your help.
I use Doublelook by Companionlink Software, it syncs the notes address book & calendar with MS Outlook. Changes made in either are reflected in the other, then outlook is synced with the MDA. Works well but only at your desk, it's not like a Blackberry where all this is wireless, in real time, that's a whole other kettle of fish.
I think commontime's mnotes is by far the best solution that I've worked with. Provided me with the fastest and most robust sync with lotus notes.
Lotus Easy Sync Pro 4.2.4 Beta support WM5.0 now

Thanks. I installed it and I am told when I start synchronizing that:
"Unable to connect to device. Verify that Activesync is running"
Useless to say that Activesync is running and that the device is seen as connected. Is there something more to do (on activesynch or easysyncpro) ?
Thx.
Can someone give me a link where I can download commontime plse, with a serial nbr ? I did from the commontime web site and it does not work. I am running Lotus Notes R5.0.12 and windows mobile 5 on my rw6828 ?
Thanks for your help?
While we're on the topic of Lotus Notes, does anyone know if it would cause harm or headaches to synchronise with notes at work (I don't know why we ever got rid of outlook! ) then, synchronise with Outlook at home?
I'd like to get my work appointments synchronised, and contacts (I have loads of friends email addresses at work but not at home).
Would be very handy - but I'm too scared it'll all go horribly wrong!
The only issue I had was making sure all the private items were tagged private. I didn't initially check for this and after the sync all my misc stuff was posted on my calendar for all to see, took some time deleting it all. But I do this now all the time & sync Notes & Outlook via Doublelook to my laptop at work and then to the home PC. No real problems other than our brain dead IS department won't let us acess the blackberry server to do it in real time but that's another kettle of fish.
Any help on my post plse ?
Would appreciate a link ;-)
Thanks !
Have anyof of you run into the problem where Outlook refuses to open because of this error " Unable to open your default e-mail folders. Unexpected error has occured. MAPI was unable to load the infoemation service nwnsp.dll Be sure the service is currently installed and configured."
I've tried most of the fixes that made sense that came up on google.
I use mnotes and it works perfect except for the email sysnc from Lotus. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you for your reply. However, I would still like to find another solution to edit/change my PIM on my PC with a specific application as I store my PIM backup on my 1Gb Card. Thanks again!

Ok, this isn't exactly what you asked for but there are some other options... You can use SyncML to sync your contacts, address book, tasks with a remote server (depending on the service you sync with is whether you can edit it on the server). To do this though, requires you to find a SyncML Client for PPC (since its not built into Windows Mobile (stupid Microsoft who thinks the entire world lives on Outlook and Exchange)). I've only used Sythesis SyncML (Its what we use in my company to sync with our servers). This is not a free program, but the basic version is only like $25. You can google to see if you can find other clients.
Then you need a server to sync with. Here's a couple I've heard about (and are supposed to be free). I've never used them myself so can't comment on how well they work:
http://www.o-sync.com/
https://zyb.com/
If you use Google for Calendar (I don't think it does address book) you can use:
https://www.goosync.com/
This (from the pictures) appears to be the Synthesis client (probably modified for GooSync). Not sure if you can customize it for other services or if it will only do calendar as I haven't installed it.
Again, I know its not exactly what you asked for, but it is a way to sync outside of the USB cable. My company uses Oracle Collabsuite (seeing how I work for Oracle, that makes sense ) and I use SyncML all the time on my Cingular 8125 via Synthesis SyncML client. Works great (most of the time) and allows me to keep my calendar, tasks, and contacts sync'd with no attachment to a PC (so I can sync in my car, while in a waiting room, or wherever).

Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to provide a possible solution for my request. I will look into this and see if it will be a viable solution.
I was hoping that I could find a quick solution such as an application that would allow me to download a PIM file and edit it on my PC. However, I can see that there is no such thing at the present time.
Thank you again for your time and effort. I greatly appreciate it!

Is the Oracle calendar sometimes called "Corporate Calendar"?
A non-techy friend of mine asked me if she could sync her work PIM to an 8125 (they use what she calls "Corporate Calendar" at work... goggling seems to imply it _might_ be from Oracle, but I'm still not sure)....
This was the thread I could find that seems close... I've had a hard time getting much more info from her, as she's really not technical (but still trying to figure out what I can for her).
Thanks,
Mike

ActiveSync over internet

I want to syncronize my wm6 ppc with Vista pc over the internet (HDSPA connection).
It's possible????
I want this too, but failed to find an answer.
what I did find is that old version of activesync support LAN syncing. I believe that MS removed it because it is insecure and rather than secure it they removed the feature.
One possible way may be to spoof a USB or Bluetooth connection over the internet with some sort of tunneling?
While this is not possible, yet... You can try the My Phone service from MS, it allows to sync almost every single piece of data in your device, contacts, calendar, tasks, documents, photos, sms, etc.
The service is currently in beta and you have to get in a wait list to register, but it's free and it has been working so far for me. Maybe, and I say maybe, when they go live, they release some sort of a plugin for Outlook or Exchange. Or one of the gifted coders around work their magic with this.
Just in case, here's the link:
http://myphone.microsoft.com
Well, you may take the route over google calendar and contacts. You can sync your pc with those services on one side and the sync the phone with them on the other side. Not a direct sync but the effect is similar.

A serious replacement to Active Sync alias Windows Mobile Device Cente

I am really fed up with ActiveSync / Windows Mobile Device Center!
I just can't stand it anymore.
Are there serious and good replacement for it? For WM 6.5.5 and Win7 x64?
Since 2007 I am experiencing these 3 major issues, with any subsequent versions of ActiveSync (which is now called Windows Mobile Device Center, on my Win7 Ultimate x64 system)
1st issue:
After a restore on one of my 3 WM devices (two HD2 and one HD1 blackstone), I had to full resync each time: sometimes it takes 30 min, sometimes 5-6 hours: I ALWAYS AND ONLY include contacts, task and calendar, with default sync settings (no emails)
2nd issue
Apparently, without warning, any 3-5 days a message appears saying:
A change to the server requires full re-sync.
I do and sometimes all is fine, sometimes ALL MY CONTACT ARE REPLICATED on both my PC and my devices...as for today I got 6,000 contacts! (they should be around 1,500)...And I am forced to go through my contacts and remove manually all the duplicates.
3rd issue: sync is completed BUT CHANGES are NOT reflected on DEVICES!
Suppose I change contact/notes on one of my 3 devices and then sync. My laptop might or may not take in the change. But invariably I get the message Device connected, Sync completed!
Viceversa: I change the email field of a contact on my laptop: the changes are reflected on device 1 but NOT on device 2 and yes on device 3! Very random behavior...
Yesterday I have edited the notes (it is a field) of a contacts on my 2nd device. On PC and on my 1st device the changes were synced. On the last device NOT....sync was completed all 3 times, WITHOUT ERRORS but changes are not there!
This is irritating.
Please help and suggest a substitute to ActiveSync alias WMDC for WM 6.5.5
Is there any tool, even if it an expensive one, to replace it?
I'm not talking about IntelliSync, PocketMirror, etc which are
not replacing, just extending its functionalities...
I don't want any more trace of activesync on my laptop, I wish to have
a professional product installed.
Thank you
Saulo
I read on interenet about SyncML and another solution called DevilsPGD.
Any feedback about it? Is there a off-line version? I dislile the idea of having my data on a web server.
Thank you
Saulo
I forgot to mention that my main goas are to sync PIM data (Outlook data) e.g.:
- Contacts
- tasks
- calendar
Thanks
Saulo
Through the years it has always baffled me how so many people have had issues with AS and MDC. I can honestly say that I have had, maybe 5 ot 6 errors with it, and all were solved with a simple reboot of both devices. After that it would go for like a year or two without an issue.
I have been using WM devices since the dell axim was introduced (changing both computers and PDA/Smartphones as time progressed) and have always read of people having massive issues with it. I also consider myself a pretty heavy user of AS/MDC: PIM syncing, Office doc syncing, Note syncing, music and photo syncing (yes with windows media player), Pocket Quicken syncing, Mysportstraining and mypersonaldiet syncing, ewallet syncing, Quickbook syncing, Mylifeorganized syncing, Checklist syncing, and a customized program I had built that syncs my loan files with an industry software I use called Point.
With all of this crap being transferred to and from my various computers and my PDA/Smartphones I would have thought, based on reading other peoples' issues, I would have experienced more problems. But as I said, it has pretty much always been a painless experience. Even the issues I had were minor (one record wouldnt sync, or one conduit would not sync, but everything else did) and as I said, rebooting both devices fixed it everytime.
What is everyone else doing differently?
I use Jeyo Mobile Companion, and I am really happy with this program. Works well on Windows 7 with a lot of features.

Dear Cirrob
I also use pocket PCs since 1998. 12 years. and always been with Active Sync.
But now I cannot accept that a sync is completed, no errors and in fact the new updated phone or cell phone is not there, on my device!
Also I edit some NOTES (notes field, within a contact) and these changes are not reflected on my PC.
I get no error messages! I have checked that the right couple (WindowPC - Device) are selected... a new contact is corrected sync, a old one, if edit, I have 70% chance is correctly synced and 30% chances it remain unchanged, either on PC or on Device...
Sure enough, if I make a hard reset, these issues are solved, the sync is perfect...But I do no want to make an hard reset every month.
Thanks
Saulo
Hallo
Does Jeyo Mobile Companion rely on Active Sync (like Intellsync or Pocket Mirror)?
Or is it a real replacement?
Thanks
Saulo
Forget Activsync
I have used PDAs heavily in my business. Before wm phones I had to carry two devices. I have also used a blackberry which has an excellent interface with any computer, it is faster and more accurate, It is realy a shame that MS stuff always seems so counter-intuitive. In my opinion the best solution is to not use activesync at all. You can do that if you have an exchange account, then you can sync all PIM over wireless, with 3G it is effortless. One caveat is that you cannot sync notes unless you activsync with outlook configured to exchange.
By the way "TrineFix" is a utility I downloaded somewhere here, when installed on your phone it will remove duplicates from your contacts, it works extremely well, and you don't have to edit duplicates by hand.
hallo researchm
Can you please expand on exchange server? Is it possible to subscribe to it for a private person like me? I mean is exchange available for personal usage?
Do you khow to start an exchange account?
Is this process something similar to syncing to a website and then connect my HD2 to the web to complete the sync?
Thank you and waiting.

It requires ActiveSync 3.7 or above
SyncML (and a provider, which supports it!). Supports WiFi!
How about microsoft my phone its syncs everything apart from email. There is one thing it can be slow sometimes to download, but uploading is fine. I was reading that they are working on fixing the download speed.
I use MyPhone. It's good, it has also a duplicate item eraser, but it does not sync with PC, as far as I know.

When I did a search for SyncML, it brought me to the Funambol site.
Looks like they have "cloud" sync options as well. Interesting.
Have you guys tried it?
I too have had problems with WMDC and Activesync. I have found a solution that works for me so I don't get the error messages:
1. Delete ALL items you want to sync from your mobile.
2. Delete ALL partnerships from your mobile.
3. Sync with XP PC (which in my case has all of the correct appointments and contacts which is all I want to sync).
4. Delete ALL partnerships from your Vista PC.
5. Delete ALL items you want to sync from Vista PC.
5. Sync mobile with Vista PC - make sure the device name the Vista PC suggests is the same as the XP PC.
Then hopefully you can sync either PC without any activesync errors. I have over 2000 appointments and over 400 contacts, so there is quite a bit of info. Each sync in 3 and 5 takes about 30 minutes. Each second sync only takes 30 seconds.

Yes, working fine (using it via my provider, which offers a special version of syncml).
I've owned Asus MyPal A639, HTC Touch HD and now - Leo. Never had any of these problems that you mention except that ActiveSync really drives me mad for one particular thing - its virus-like auto-start behavior on both desktop and PPC. Its like sync , sync, sync... a-a-and.... sync, sync, sync. Even disabled it rewrites its entries in the registry every time you start it. Its a pest! On the other side it does what it does - sync(!) and you can use many 3-rd party programs on top of it. I use Jeyo Mobile Companion and MobilEdit! but they rely on ActiveSync. Unfortunately there's no real alternative to ActiveSync and its derivatives (WMDC).

Why? There is software out there for your phone that will delete duplicate contacts from your device. Then all you need to do is resync back with outlook.
