Is it possible to improve the picture quality, as the built in 2MP camera with the factory software is

Trinity's BAD camera picture quality
Took me a while to find this thread and not start a new one.
The issue is as follows: I am very unhappy with the way Trinity takes pictures. Whatever setting I use, the pictures are horrible, out of focus, blurred at the edges, lack of contrast and color.
Is it my device or do you have the same problem?
solution ?
Did anyone find a solution for that ? Or is this thread closed without a solution ?
trinity's camera is very weak indeed, but maybe yours has some additional problem. take some test pictures and post them
Well, my unit takes decent pics. I don't expect too much from it and use PhotoScape or PhotoShop to tune the photos.

Have been in contact with T-Mobile and they have very limited details on this device! Suggested I contact Scancom (retailer that supplied the phone) if I am not happy with the device.
Seeing as this phone is the future and the functionality it is such a shame that the quality is marred by a very very poor camera. Have tried all the settings and updates and the picture is still very pixelated.
If anyone has any idea how to overcome this problem (ie the camera software) or feel that T-Mobile will resolve this in the very near future please let me know!
Thanks
Do a search on this forum and get the latest camera updates - anyone remember which thread had them all in one post?
Secondly, you have to recognise the limitations of the camera. Even after the patching it's useless in low light, but OK in daylight.
Try changing camera sharpness default value to 1 and see if it does the trick for you.
The camera quality is nevertheless not brilliant, I must admit, especially when using Night mode. Though, changing the sharpness value did remove all the white spots I had before.
Hi , does anyone know how to improve the speed for taking photo on Blackstone? I am not sure that is caused by camera setting or Blackstone is bad performance to take photo. Once I press the button to take photo, it needs to take few seconds to shoot. Hope anyone know how to improve it. Thanks!
I haven't tried it but it seems (to me) to be focusing when the delay occurs. Switching to manual focus should make it quicker.
I think Kanburra is right. For me, photo taking has been immediate with no delay whatsoever. Perhaps it is because the conditions in which I took those photos allows auto focus to work very well and quickly. Perhaps the auto focus may have problem in certain situation which could be better handled with manual focus.
manual focus? what's he methode?
Anybody managed to save camera pictures with format other than JPEG ? Picture seems to be like 500Kbytes when 5M is set which is way smaller than expected ( few MBs with Nokia N95).
It does not allow to change the saving format in advanced camera options. Anyone managed to change it ? Thanks
Don't try to compare the HD camera to the N95.
The HD's camera is the weak spot of this great device and the pictures will
always come out in poor quality no matter what configurations you make.
i dunno you know, i reckon if you could get a RAW dump from the CCD rather than pis**ing about with auto this and that then changing it to jpeg it might not be too bad
I had this option with my Old PDA2K ( BlueAngel ) and JamIn.
Weird !
With the lens, not sure there is any point what so ever going to 5MP resolution.
Here is a link to the CMOS detector in the phone.

Its actually, a very good sensor... its the implementation which seems to have been its issue.
Lately I noticed that the camera on my HD2 is struggling to take sharp pictures.
The area of focus is sharp but the rest of the pictures is not...
In the settings I have seen that the metering mode is set to spot but I cannot change it, its greyed out...
Is there a software upgrade/fix for or do I have to flash a complete rom or is it just a case of finger trouble, if so please explain how I can solve this issue...
Look at the picture and you will see what I mean...
this would be caused by the camera using a large aperture, not sure if theres anyway to control it cause the hd2 doesnt have an option for this setting.
A smaller aperture would be what you want to have everything in your photo in focus.
I have been looking to pictures taken by the HD2 6 months ago and those pictures are actually quite OK. Looks like my camera is slowly failing as I have not changed any setting...
Well if nobody has any tips I guess thats will be the end of my HD2, as this whas the main reason of buying the HD2 to have a descent camera with me all the time. As this phone also struggles with a weak gsm/radio reception I dont see any reason of keeping it...

under the settings in camera, turn Touch Focus OFF - this will let you choose your meetering option. I haven't tested it, as I'm happy with the way my camera takes pictures, regardless of aperture and whatnot.
as above then choose average for metering mode
Hi all,
I've had my HD2 since around Christmas time and I love the device, but I've always had a problem with it's camera. This is not the usual "Pink cast" problem which I know is well documented, but rather a problem with the autofocus. Sometimes when I'm just playing with the camera it works fine, but most of the time (usually when I really want or need to photograph something) the camera cannot focus. It TRIES to focus, I can hear the lens moving and the image on the screen goes from very blurry, past the point of focus, back to blurry again and then the camera takes the photo blurry. It seems to be able to focus on my hand or anything else I hold very close to the lens, but anything else and 9 times out of 10 it will not focus properly. I've found that usually if I reboot the phone it will work for a while but then I've missed what I was trying to photograph in the first place. I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this problem with their HD2?
Here's a few points I think are worth mentioning:
The handset's ROM is the standard one that came installed when it was new, I have never upgraded it or patched it (I know there was a patch for the camera but as far as I was aware this was to try to fix the pink cast problem, correct me if I'm wrong).
The problem occurs in all lighting conditions.
Touch focus is enabled but touching the screen results in the same problem, it tries to focus but fails. I feel that this is very likely to be a hardware problem but then on the other hand, why would restarting the phone make it better if it's a hardware fault?
Any help, input or shared experiences will be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Hey i have the same problem! i wanted to send my HD2 in to get it replaced but they said it was a software problem i dont really think so tho.
It would be really nice to see someone dev an app or a new rom that fixes this problem.
If i hear anything i will post what i know.
Hi,
excuse my poor english.....
I had the same problem with original italian ROM (1.66) until this summer.
On my device I have two applications that can increase the picture sharpness (BsB Tweaks, XTHackBeta2).
In these apps I enabled the "increase picture quality" but my pictures were always blurred, especially when there was plenty of sunlight.
I tryed to contact HTC Costumer service, they told me to have an hard reset but it did not solve the problem, also without no one applications installed on device.
It might seem stupid but, after that, I cleaned kindly but strongly the camera glass and I set the resolution camera to 1 Mb, making pictures and check how autofocus was working, then, step by step, I set to 5 Mb on camera configuration with Super fine quality pictures.
And I disabled any increasing picture quality on every apps (BsB, XT Hack)
It could be a miracle but I had never had the problem of autofocussing and pictures became very detailed and brighted
Same problem for me. Have a german 1.72 t-mob ROM.
Reducing the picture quality is not a solution for me.
In my case the problem occurs every time I try to make photos of any documents inside rooms, but with good light conditions. I need about 5-10 trials to make one well focussed photo. It's equal if I use autofocus or not.
If I go outside I can make very good photos from some natural objects, even when they are very close.
I enabled camera Superfine in BsB Tweaks.
