OK.
When I'm at home, I use my Wifi AP to connect to the Internet and my home network. I have to set my settings to:
Settings --> Connections --> Connections --> Adcanced --> Select Networks --> My Work Network.
When I'm on the move and my HTC TyTn is connected to KPN UMTS I hve to manually set my settings to:
Settings --> Connections --> Connections --> Adcanced --> Select Networks --> KPN GPRS / UMTS.
Is there any chance that this can be set to any kind of automatic mode, a scripting tool on my todayscreen or other solution???
I am not familiar with an automatic way to switch networks, but here is what I do on my Jamin:
My GPRS settings are under My ISP (just tap 'add new connection in the main connections tab, note My ISP has to be selected for use in 'advanced' for this option to be available)
When I connect to my home WiFi (or any other WiFi) I select 'this network connects: to the internet'.
In advance->network selection both lists are on My ISP.
This way I never have to switch between networks and all apps (except push mail that insists on GPRS) use WiFi if available and GPRS if not.
Thx
Wow, thanks!!
4 months of trying, mindbreaking hours. While the solution is so simple!
IT WORKS!

OK, so the internet settings in WM5 are a real hell to deal with.
Is there some kind of a network profiler (like Mobile NetSwitch for desktop Windows)?
I want to be able to switch between settings. For example, I have a wireless network at home with automatic IP settings. I also have the USB commection that uses a proxy. In the uni I have two wireless networks with different settings. I want to switch between locations with different setting.
How the hell can this be done?
in the start-settings-connections tab you can choose the connections icon, then set up different connections "under add a new modem connection". then select the advanced tab and select the network manually for the connection you then want to use at that time. When you want to use another connection, you have to go to start-settings-connections-connections -advanced again and mannually select the network you want to connect to. Not very easy to do quickly, but the only way I have found to switch networks...
Hello! I have a problem with WLAN. I couldn't find where to set up my proxy and port settings for WLAN. If I go to the start > settings > conections I can't set up a wireless network, just 3g, bluetooth etc. (but there are settings for proxy), but if I go to start > settings > network cards and then tap Add new there are just options that i need exept those two. Help me please!
P.S. I have WM5 and Qtek 9000 (HTC Unversal)
OK, after about 10 minute trying, I finally get it done.
When you select one AP name in Wi-Fi setting,it will ask which profile will the connection connects to.( I use Chinese version, I guess it will be "Default Internet" and "Default Company" ).The two connection is the two you select in setting->connection->connection->advance tab, the upper is "Internet" the lower is "Company", and you can make a new profile here using the "New" button, here you will find proxy setting and enter some proxy , because you are just using this profile in wi-fi ,so the "moderm" can be left blank.
When you have done the setting, you can turn on Wi-Fi, browse some web site, in taskMgr(additional application I installed) you will find the ppc has establish a tcp connection to the proxy server you set up.
hello everyone,
I have a simple question, can i set my device to connect using wifi automatically when i run an internet application instead of going to the gprs, i tried to play with the connection setting but no luck.
regards
Hi!
I have managed this problem by defining double keypress to "backspace" key to turn bluetooth on/off and triple keypress to turn wifi on/off with AE Button Plus. Very handy tool! http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
I had always assumed that any WiFi connection took automatic priority over GPRS?
On my HD and automatically :
- WiFi takes priority over GPRS/3G
- USB (ActivSync) takes priority over GPRS/3G and Wifi (which is automatically disabled, BTW)
- If neither USB nor WiFi are available, GPRS/3G is used.
Tested with IE, Opera, Mail and Weather.

First, do you get the wifi turned on automatically when you start ie or opera?
second, if yes, how did you manage to do that?

Here is how I configured (I'm translating from french, exact english terms might be a bit different) :
1. Parameters > tab "Connections" > Connections > tab "Advanced" > "Networks selection"
- In "Programs connecting automatically to Internet..." I've selected "Office network"
- IN "Programs connecting automatically to a private network ..." I've selected "OrangeWorld"
2. Parameters > tab "Connections" > WiFi > "Wireless networks" > tab "Network interface"
- In "My interface connects to" I've selected "Internet"

I turn the WiFi ON/OFF manually. (For power saving reasons, I don't want it to be ON when I can't use it)
Youc an also use MoDaCo NoData utility to explicitly disable GPRS and other mobile data connections.
You need to register to download.
Alternatively, Schaps Advanced Config V3.3 has the same disable in its advanced settings, but its buried a bit too deep in the menu's.
Sorry i am really a newbie, but how do i update the weather by using Wifi??because it is always automatically connected to GPRS for the update and there is data charge.....help is appreciated...
My Jade uses, if available, WiFi. Did you set up your WiFi with encryption key etc properly on your Jade? Should use this, if activated...

Hai Faiz
Connect with ActivSync. That will do the trick.
You could use nodata to block gprs, just see your other thread about GoogleMaps.
And make sure your connections are set up properly....
start -> settings -> connections (tab) -> connections -> advanced (tab) -> select networks -> both options should be set to 'my work network'.
Go back to connections tab -> advanced network -> disable HSDPA
go to text service tab(or sms tab) -> text message through GSM
Now you've disabled all GPRS data traffic, set up your wifi connection and you should be good to go.
Mine doesn't seem to like wifi networks. It connects to them ok but then email and opera won't work.
If I connect via my service provider using 3G everything works fine.
I don't mind this as my contract includes 500mb of data per month and I don't use it online that much as I still find it easier using a PC if I'm at home or in the office.
I also find that if I have unique switched on to search for wifi networks it kills the battery life so I don't have it enabled.
I'm sure you will be able to get it to work, I just haven't botherd due to the reasons above.
Hi
I am using the HD2 on a network that is not in HTC's auto config for data for my country (DIGI - Romania).
Is there a way to manually edit/add/remove the data connection properties? I need to put the APN internet and let other settings bank. I am on the 1.43 East Europe ROM.
Thanks!
Salut
I'm using my HD2 on DIGI with no problem. All you have to do is go to Connections, select the Tasks tab and under My Work Network:
1.
Add modem a new connection (name: RDS; modem: Celluar line GPRS) - NEXT
Access pint name: internet - NEXT
User name, etc.: leave blank - FINISH
2.
Make sure you select My Work Network in both drop-down lists under Advanced tab.
3.
Again under Tasks tab (as per step1), click Manage existing connections and select RDS under Modem page.
4.
If you plan to use the HD2 only with RDS I suggest you select WCDMA network type and UMTS (2100+900) band frequency in Comm Manager - Phone settings.
I don't know if all this is necessary but it works for me just fine.
Good luck!
thanks!
I will try that.
