I've got hold of an old c500 from a mate so I don't have to take my XDA IIs out with me all the time. I've tried to unlock the phone but to no avail. I was wondering if flashing the ROM to WM5 would remove all the crap that Orange has put on there and unlock it to allow me to use my O2 SIM.
If you had searched, you would know...
Do a search.
If you don't find it, list your search criteria and I will tell you..
If I use the same search critera and DO find someting.. ..well, then you suck at searchng?
Right, I'm mid-way through SIM unlocking my C500. I've application unlocked it and need to install a .cab file to allow the sim unlock, however, now that I have application unlocked it, it will only register as a guest on my PC through active sync meaning that I can not browse files and copy the .cab file over.
Help!
Strange
Then you are in a very peculiar situation.
I can browse the contents of both my XDA II and XDA Exec while connected as "Guest".
Actually, it's the only thing I can do as guest..
How ever, if your guest mode is different from the rest of us, why not use IR, Bluetooth or a SD card reader to copy your app?
In worst case, perhaps mail it to yourself and install it?
Or upload to an FTP, and then download and install?
Having now followed your advice and uploaded, then downloaded the .cab it will not install citing lack of permissions as the cause, indicating to me that the device has not been application unlocked. I did it using the HTC Unlock programme from SPV Services. I have also tried unlocking via the offical Orange system but the Action Register will not run and keeps asking me to reconnect the device.
I think we need to clarify some terms here..
What exactly do you mean by "Application unlocked" ?
using an app to unlock the phone, or removing some lock preventing you from running apps?
And by "Lack of permission", was ever a certificate or "signed app" mentioned?
Application unlock meaning that I should have nothing stopping me running any apps I want nor should any of the phone's features be barred to me.
I don't know but I assume that's what I mean. All FAQs and tutorials about SIM unlocking the c500 talk about having to have it Application unlocked first.

SIMLock
So is this nice little Programm you developed in so many hard steps also capable of unlocking the new HTC Artemis (MDA Compact III)?? I would need to know that before bying such a nice device.
On the Homepage of the IMEI-Check the Artemis is cracked with the exact same programm you can download there, but i don't feel like paying for the Unlock key ^^ I read the whole Thread in the Hermes Forum but the Artemis isn't mentioned there, so i wonder if this C3v1Unlocker will work with this Key Unlock key you posted because this Key is surely computed for a Hermes based device... Answers appreciated And thanks for your Great work!

no, it patches the Hermes radio will not be valid for Artemis... although should be a very similar patch, because both devices are quite the same.

The "unlock key" is only valid after patching the radio.
Ah, okay, i see. Is anybody already working on a Radio Patch for the Artemis? I imagine, if the Radio is patched, it should be possible to create a similar Program for the Artemis, once someone gets a key for his Artemis IMEI, or am i wrong with that?
I've been investigating about this, it is not correct what I said previously: the patched radio method used in Hermes or Universal will not work on Artemis.
On Artemis (and other OMAP based devices) the SIM & CID lock area is stored encrypted on Disk-on-Chip (DOC), on the first block of binary partition 1 which can be accessed with pdocread.
I guess imei-check reads this area and patches it (probably they have to load a "fake" bootloader in RAM first to get SecLevel=0, as they did with the activesync part of the Hermes unlocker).
I don't have Artemis and can't do much more, but if someone is interested in researching I will be watching this thread and try to help, so feel free to post tech questions here if you are serious about writing a free unlocker for the Artemis.

have you read this tread ? -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=274860
I have "reconstruct" what actually that utility do. Actually utility uses ITSME utilities to access phone, but on exactly adresses. First it reads some area form RADIO of the phone to the file. That area is 16K large and contains IMEI.
pdocread.exe -n 1 0x040000 0x4000 -b 0x4000 "pdocread.dat"
After that in temp file pdocread.dat at addresss 0x300C - 0x3013 is stored IMEI. One digit is for some CRC check, I think CRC8 but didn't check at all. So that "IMEI Wizard" changes IMEI in file pdocread.dat, calculates and changes CRC digit, and writes file back to the RADIO of the phone with command:
pdocwrite.exe -n 1 "pdocread.dat" 0x040000 0x4000 -b 0x4000
So simple and working.
When it doesn't work ? It doesn't work on new G4 phones, even WIZARD and PROPHET. It works on the same phones, but with old G3 chipset. And phone MUST be CID unlocked and RAPI enabled. The reason ultility fail to work on new G4 phones is that pdocwrite is not ready yet to work with that phones. I am looking for utility to change IMEI on P3300 (Artemis i think) or S200 (PROPHET) too.
IMEI Change?!
The "older" HTC Devices can all be unlocked without changing the IMEI i think, there has to be a way to unlock this phone without changing the IMEI of the unit. Apart from the unlocking process being illegal already, changing the IMEI of a Celluar Phone is even worse Maybe i got your post wrong and you do not intend to really change the IMEI, i dunno...

Yes, we ALL know consequences from changing IMEI. And we ALL read well-written topic about it >> IMEI changing is going to get you sore!. << Did you ?
And did you know that is some countries you just MUST to change IMEI to use your phone ? I will save your time for searching and point one of hundreds topics about this >> To all TURKISH fellows and others a must read story !!! <<. And because of this I can't upgrade to better phone ... for now.
So .. if you don't offer anything constructive but just criticism - please, go to flame on some other topic. Or better - just shut up.

Kircho cool down and tell me something
I may be coming to Turkey early next year (January, maybe). Please confirm that roaming with my current provider for a week is no problem? Or do I have to carry my receipt?
kircho,
Probably you've been confused because the company that sells SIM-Unlocker for the Artemis is called "imei-check", but we were discussing about SIM-Unlock here, not imei-changing.
Haha!
Lol, Kircho... how old are you??
I don't care what you do with you IMEI, believe me, i really don't! All i said is that i would love to have a method to disable SIM Lock without messing around with my units IMEI, thats all.
It was NO CRITICISM of your work, my knowledge with PDAs and Windows Mobile does not suffice to render any code to unlock a device and i am not flaming here. If this thing you figured out works for your device, thats cool and i am glad for you, i just wouldn't do it with my device, thats it...

There is no problem with roaming. If your SIM card is issued by some forign operator like UK Vodafone or Dutch KPN - you can use any phone in Turkey with such card.

Do you know of a way to unlock extended rom on Artemis? I tried the wizard unlock. It appeared to work for a while but ultimately it has done strange things. The extended rom seems to be visible but not the files within...after a while even the visibility of extended rom is lost.
Thanks, a.
I again have a Artemis (dutch mda compact 3) and I can test with for 2 days...
Im gonna unlock it with the paid imei check software....
I have tried to enter bootloader but it won't enter...
How can I be helpfull to do make an unlock tool...
@apap: sorry I don't have an Artemis, and I don't know.
@thagangsta:
Have a look at this thread in order to understand how this was done in the Hermes:
Reverse engineering the HERMES imei-check unlocker
The bootloader commands for the Hermes are explained in these wiki pages, someone should start researching Artemis bootloader and put the commands on the wiki, it is very similar to Hermes.
Hermes Bootloader Information
Hermes Radio Bootloader and AT command interpreter
Some hints that may help you:
1. You can run the unlocker as many times as you want, it doesn't matter if you've already unlocked your device, the imei-check unlocker will behave the same.
2. In order for the USB monitor capture to be useful, you need to click on the "COMPLETE" tab and when you have captured it, export it as ANSI TEXT.
3. If the app fails (communication error) you need to create 2 admin users, 1 for running usb monitor and the other for running the unlocker. Use right click, "run as..." and then select the other admin user. You need to repeat this process several times until you can successfully get the log.
4. be careful on what you post here, as imei-check has intelectual property rights on their work. Do not "copy" their solution, but reimplement it in another way.

Just read the thread for the hermes unlocking. I'm not a complete noob but i'm still stunned by the technical data.
Removed a unformiliar program a week ago called "- -" after canceling a imeicheck upgrade (had no valid .unl file)
Reading "First the imei-check unlocker transfers a CAB file to the device via ActiveSync which installs an application named "- -", which contains at least MIGsoft LTD security certificate (used to sign the NBH file with the bootloader upgrade) and runs some other stuff like this (not completed):"
This must mean the unlockers of the hermes and the artemis work in the same way.
Main Questions are:
Is an unlock for the Artemis using imei-check able to use SuperCID?
Which bootloader can we use that is able to flash all roms?
Which code can we use for unlocking.
Edit
I've found an crack for themida secured files. POF You've stated that the .unl files are themida protected could some people post their unl files.
Could be an easy solution......

You can usb-sniff what is transfered over activesync without the need to pay for it, it is done before it requests .unl file. For sniff the rest of the process (which is done in bootloader mode without activesync) you need to pay for the unlocker.

Yes, but it's not sticky (will loose it after 1st rom flash after applying unlocker). I have solution for this to make supercid sticky if you reverse the process.

Most probably the earliest shipped bootloader version. See to which version of bootloader imei-check unlocker downgrades your device when run with the proper key.

Available cracks for themida are for older versions... this is not the way to go for sure, I also investigated and got nowhere.
About .unl files I don't know... I said exe unlocker file is packed with themida, never looked at .unl myself, I think its pointless because usb-sniffing is easier.
Good luck!
Just used the monitor with the unlocker but i'm not able to understand what it does and don't have a .unl file.
Here is the logfile ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Artemis/Mdacompac3_unlock_no_unl_file.ms2

ms2 is not useful... export capture in ANSI text format please.

Is possible to group several cabs in one cab?
I want it to save in the Extended Rom of my TyTn, so that when I do a HardReset, automatic it starts to install all the modifications of registry and some programs that I have in several cabs from the pocket, without need of pc.
I search on the forum, but I don´t find any solution.
Thanks
Well first off, if you use the autorun.exe that already exists in the extended ROM and modify its configuration file (the name may be different for different devices, but it is usually a plain text file) you can get it to install several cabs in sequence.
Combining cabs is not always possible unless you are the one who created them in the first place.
Get a program called CE Cab Manager. It will show you everything that a given cab includes and let you edit it. As long as it's just files and registry settings there is no problem stuffing them all in one cab.
But if a two cabs contain a setup.dll there is no way of combining them without knowing exactly what that DLL does (it could be anything) and thats almost impossible (unless you can read ARM assembler well).

what levenum said is correct... so the best thing for you to do is to edit the config.txt file in your extended rom to have them install... HOWEVER if the cabs you are using arent digitally signed then they wont install using that method, you would need to disable the security first... Since no one has a signed disable security cab that works with the tytn the only option would be to do this on a hard reset; soft reset before the customization, when it boots run the tweak program to disable security, then go to the windows directory and manually launch the preautoconfig.exe
software alternatives
tristan1412, you can also use a software dedicated to this task.
check spb airsetup (www.spbsoftwarehouse.com, i'm not sure if it allows more then one cab), or even better airwizard (http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=airwizard)
the advantage of these programs is in my opinion the compression. then you also get several options like readme/eula (with airwizard you have spash image support and even sd card output support - that creates autorun content for the sdcard)
hope this helps

In case anyone was having trouble finding the info, I just thought I would put everything together and make it easy. Sorry if im re-posting anyones info, just seemed a bit spread out. Obviously anything you do is at your own risk, but if you follow it to the letter, you cant go wrong.
I can confirm all of this works.
And as far as the unlock, I didn't unlock my phone until AFTER I got NoDo. And yes, it DOES stay unlocked. Ive already tested, and obviously because of that, side-loading still works as well. You wont need the chevron unlock program anymore, plus it doesnt seem to be working well for alot of people now anyways since NoDo, but the Chevron Ringtone Manager works GREAT without that once you go through the process. Just leave out the part about the Chevron7 unlock tool.
LG "debranding" hack
1. Enable the MFG application by going to the dialer and dialing ##634# then pressing call.
2. Launch the MFG application and enter 277634#*# when prompted for a password.
3. Select the Engineer Menu item.
4. Select the Other Setting menu item.
5. Select the Edit registry menu item.
6. Set the input boxes on this menu as follows:
Select ROOT_PATH: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Input SUB_PATH: \System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\
Input KEY: MobileOperator
Data Type: STRING
Input DATA: It is blank, but instead of leaving a blank, put in an empty space. As in actually hit the space key once.
Also, if you want to re-brand your phone after the update for AT&T your input should be ATT-US
7. Select Query and write down the result in case you need to re-brand for some reason.
8. To debrand just enter the same information above and leave the input data field blank. The tool will say fail but it really did set correctly.
You can now connect to Zune and check for updates.
How to Un-Lock your Phone without Chevron 7
You can unlock the phone by using the MFG registry editor.
Open the MFG app and use the password to open it. If you don't know it's (appmfg#*#)
Go to Engineer Menu -> Other Settings -> Edit Registry
Set your ROOT PATH to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Set your input path to "\Comm\Security\LVMod"
Set your input key to "DeveloperUnlockState" and set to DWORD
Hit Query. Output result should return a "0" or a random long number. If it does continue.
Set your input data box to "1" and hit SET. Output result should be 1
How To Keep Your Phone Unlocked
You can keep your phone unlocked and prevent Zune from re-locking it.
Open the MFG app and use the password to open it. If you don't know it's (appmfg#*#)
Go to Engineer Menu -> Other Settings -> Edit Registry
Set your ROOT PATH to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Set your input path to "\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg"
Set your input key to "PortalUrlProd" and set to DWORD
Hit Query. Output result should return data. If it does continue.
Keep your input data box empty and hit SET. Output result should be 0
Keep this screen open and continue to Part 2
Part 2
Set your ROOT PATH to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Set your input path to "\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg"
Set your input key to "PortalUrlInt" and set to DWORD
Hit Query. Output result should return data. If it does continue.
Keep your input data box empty and hit SET. Output result should be 0
Backout to the password screen and shutdown the phone via powerbutton.
Reboot and sync. Your phone should stay unlocked.
How to Re-Lock your Phone without Chevron 7
Don't want your phone unlocked anymore? You can re-lock the phone by using the MFG registry editor.
Open the MFG app and use the password to open it. If you don't know it's (appmfg#*#)
Go to Engineer Menu -> Other Settings -> Edit Registry
Set your ROOT PATH to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Set your input path to "\Comm\Security\LVMod"
Set your input key to "DeveloperUnlockState" and set to DWORD
Hit Query. Output result should return a "1". If it does continue.
Set your input data box to "0" and hit SET. Output result should be 0
Your phone is now locked. To Unlock the phone redo the above steps but set back to "1"

While the unlock works as described and I can deploy applications on the phone I cannot debug from Visual studio. The application deploys and it can be manually run but I cannot debug. The following error displays when I hit F5
---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
The application could not be launched for debugging. Ensure that the target device screen is unlocked and that the application is installed.

OK

Any ideas would be appreciated, I've tryied pretty much everything so far including a clean install of the latest VS + WP7 sdk and a factory reset of the phone.
Same here
I have the same issue with debugging that you do. The only way I've managed to resolve it was restoring to a pre NoDo backup, unlocking with Chevron and then updating to NoDo again. I can only guess that Chevron must do more than change that one registry key (or rather, that the phone does more than change that key when it's told by chevron to unlock) but unless we can figure out what that extra step is we're probably stuck.
Your Problem
Well, that is your problem right there, lol. Both of you mentioned using Chevron to unlock. If you are using Chevron to unlock, AND using MFG, well, chances are ur pissing it off somewhere. dont use both. MFG makes it so that you DO NOT NEED chevron with the LG Quantum, not to unlock. and everything else works just fine - the chevron ringtone thing, ect. Thats probably where ur extra step is... ur unlocking it two different ways and making it upset.

No Chevron in my case, I've only used the MFG on a NoDo updated phone. I don't think you can debug using only these registry keys. There is something else.
have you tried actually calling LG and talkin to tech support? I honestly cant think of anything myself... and ive been thinkin about it and working on it since it was brought to my attention. Its LG's software, they should know something.
I guess you could try a hard reset to see if anything happens
thanks for putting this up here. I've discovered this as well a while back and still find a lot of people with LGs that are being told to roll back or reset their phones after they got their NoDo in the WP7 forums. Many people believe what doesn't work with their device applies to all devices. Luckily for us LG included the registry editor right on the device
Your title should include that this works after NoDo and it should be made a sticky!
cheers

I have tried this several times but my phone still shows the following error when I use a SIM other than AT&T:
"This SIM card can only be used on specific networks. Contact your service center for the unlock code"
Any ideas on solving this would be appreciated
And does the "debranding hack" remove the AT&T boot screen?
-FIXED- Seems in my triple checking wasn't thorough enough, for the path's I was including "\" before the path and the whole string was showing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\ (the \\ being my issue) just fyi for any other spacey people X)
I attempted the registry hacks to unlock, keep unlocked, and change app limit on my post NoDo AT&T quantum and triple checked my registry after connecting to my x64 win7 ultimate machine and trying to load my chevron prepared ringtone. With most package loaders I get an error of an app limit but I believe with Tom's XAP installer along with the chevron unlocking tool I tried after realizing the registry hack didn't work, I get a phone not detected error when it is clearly shown in Zune which I have open during the whole process. Could it be nodo interfering or an issue within windows? Should I try a restore and chevron post nodo? The debranding isn't required for the unlock to have an effect is it? Any advice would be appreciated as I get bored with these ringtones!
-Update: Error received when attempting to deploy XAP to device using Windows Phone Development Tools Application Deployment.
Error - Unable to install application. The maximum number of developer applications on this phone has been reached. Please uninstall a developer application and try again.
-Note: I have never been ABLE to install a developer application so I don't think it's possible I have any to uninstall. I have changed the app limit registry key and it seems to have no effect, unless the problem is that my phone isn't unlocked, would I get the same error if that were the issue? It is possible to unlock post NoDo with MFG right? Wish i could figure out how ...
When attempting with Tom's XAP installer it says Make sure your phone is unlocked, make sure you've connected device to pc and zune launched.
Seems to me the phone just isn't unlocking...
Is it possible to rollback to pre nodo amd attempt? would it better my odds?
its not removing the subsidiary lock from the phone. you are misunderstanding the information. when it debrands, the provider no longer has control over whether or not you get updates and such. the debrand does not remove the logo. check around, im sure someone has figured out how to do that. as far as the unlock goes, it is simply allowing sideloading. not moving over to another carrier. basically you are changing the code to a devel code. if you want to unlock, well i doubt it if that can be done just yet. check around, i might be wrong. but i know that the carriers are not going to release the unlock codes yet, but call your carrier, u might get lucky.
as far as the app limit change goes, the only devices i am aware of that working on at the moment is HTC, but that is only for sideloaded apps. debranding isint required for the unlock to work, but that still does not matter. at the moment, my understanding is that pre and post nodo there is a 10 sideload app limit on all LG devices. the HTC code may differ slightly for whatever reason. your problem is that is just is not possible to do more. when your computer says it needs to be unlocked, it is ALSO talking about your screen, not just the phone. if you are doing something like sideloading ringtones, remember, u can load them, then remove the app that installed them. uninstall, then reload, that way you dont end up filling it up. a developer app is anything you are attempting to sideload. anything you are not getting from the marketplace. it IS possible to unlock post no-do. sounds like u just have too many sideloaded apps. remove some, then try. and make sure your phone is on the start screen.

Hi guys...
I hate the search sensor button, on my Omnia 7...
I accidentaly pressing it all the time, I want to disable it, or even make it work differentely...
Is there any way, how to change its functionality?
And theres another thing... How can I change the default search provider via Registry on the DFT rom?
I found this tutorial, but cannot find that registry keys, shown here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...99&postcount=5
Thanks for the answers...
Nobody answers, but finally, I found the solution, how to change the search provider.
On mango, just add the registry key:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchProviders\Google]
and there a new value of:
"URL"="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=&q={searchTerms}"
Don't forget to set the Search provider in Settings - Applications - Internet Explorer...
And it's done
im on DFT rom but i can't do anything in registry. when i try to add new value registry editor is closing and phone going to home
@ Jonage - Thanks man, this works with me
@ eselcuker - please check that your phone didn't relocked after you first connected it to Zune after flashing DFT rom. For the Sammy Rainbow DFT ROM, you need to make changes on the registry by deleting the value on the PortalUrlint and PortalUrlProd both are under the DeviceReg before connecting device to Zune otherwise it will relocked. Please read the thread on the Sammy Rainbow DFT to find out more.
