A LOT of great features are in P4350, required from customers: this is AKU. We have 2.3-2.6 and P4350 has 3.2 and the difference is like having XP service pack 1 or 2: try to restore winsock with service pack 1!
______________________________________________________________
from Wikipedia:
An Adaptation Kit Update (AKU) is a collection of updates, fixes and enhancements to the tools delivered to hardware device manufacturers to create or update devices based on a specific platform.
This term is used by Microsoft to designate the current update version for a particular embedded platform such as Windows Mobile which is used for Personal digital assistants and Smartphone devices. On the Windows Mobile platform the AKU is to Windows Mobile what a Service Pack is to Microsoft Windows.
Microsoft releases AKUs to allow device manufacturers with updates to create new products or fix issues with older products. These enhancements are usually not available to the consumer or end user unless released as a firmware update from the vendor.

That's will be the great crossbow power: WINDOWS UPDATE power.
Today from Phone manufatures point of view they have the AKU release from MS but they have money to earn with new devices and they don't really support old devices (eve 3-4 monts old!). Without real market competition the truth is: we paid the price of a laptop and we have a service of a radio player!
If you bought an ACER laptop 6 months ago and you still have No windows updates (and may be you never will have) this will be your last ACER! Today we are in the same condition
Sliding sound, contact via SMS, contacts and calls history search from home screen, a long list of feature unsupported in AKU 2 and released in 3 series...
I'm still hoping in some change of strategy from HTC, expecially for high-end phones, like our HERMES... but we have to make a loud noise to be heared!
I dont think this will work, from what HTC said about that keyboard it would seem that there is more interface between it and the o/s in the herald. the herald knows when its open and closed and is able to power the phone on. I believe there is a harware difference here.
the handset knows the keyboard is open as it flicks the screen round!

Nope. It's an hardware thing: there's a small magnet that makes the screen rotate.
It was actually the first thing I tried to emulate via software, when I got my TyTn back in September: it does work up to a point. Thing is that the sound only plays when the screen is FULLY rotated (as apposed when STARTING rotation), so it means that the keyboard is already open. It kinda defies the whole meaning, doesn'it? I plan to try it via some more low-level hacking in the near future, but I can make no promises: it's probably not possible.

Since my wee JAM is dead (£85 to fix) I'm getting an XDA Exec to replace it - the 640x480 screen with WiFi and 3G appeals to me, since I no longer have a portable PC for my WiFi connection downstairs, and I wanna browse in bed!
Can someone post screens on the actual things browsing? Thanks!

Holy... Effing.. Jesus.
Sold.
EDIT: The Windows site is really terrible when it comes to promoting what their SW can do.... those few screens are fantastic...
Do us a favour, could yo also try http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=belfast&spn=0.005190,0.016145&hl=en as well, and what are you using to grab the screens as a matter of interest vijay?
I use Visual Studio 2005, which comes with a program called Remote Zoomin.
If you don't want to install this, use this:

Fantastic!
Hey vijay555,
What software is used to generate the "desktop" line screen view, rather than the "today" screen?
Also, what did you use to set VGA (I know of the VGA install available here - which I've tried)
However what did you do to display your dialer pad without the buttons being cropped?
And for anyone else, anyone yet know of a fix that allows us to toggle between VGA and QVGA depending on application?
Regards
Michael
Michael: the top two pictures are from a Universal running the VGA hack here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32217&highlight=
Not that it's important I think, but i'm using VJNina font modfied from from the SPV phone; I've also minimised my scrollbars down.
The second two are using Terminal Services to log onto an XP Media Center PC. I'm using my VJFullscreenTSC app to make it entirely fullscreen:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33759&highlight=
So the "desktop" start bar is coming from XP Media Center, on the PDA
I don't get your question about the Dialer buttons.
If you mean this in VGA:
this is using my VJBigPhone app

All are detailed ony my website www.vijay555.com
Another hack I'm working on is to minimise the soft buttons (the blue menu buttons at the bottom) down to a smaller size, relocate the Today tray and ultimately remove the Start Bar:

PS I don't think there's a dynamic VGA QVGA switcher yet
Vijay, great work by the way...
After much consideration, the only application I want in VGA on my Qtek 9000 is Internet Explorer Mobile. Is there any way to just make that program run in high-resolution? Everything else could be QVGA as far as I'm concerned.
I just don't like the idea of installing a ton of hacks and having to soft-reset between needs.
I swear I am starting to dribble
How about a screen shot of video playing too???

thank for this help. it is useful for me in my project

Here it´s mine with my beloved Opera
Chhers,
since our wizards are not so powerful in sense of cpu and memory, is it better to have almost clean rom without touchflo and htc home and those functions to replace with spb pocketplus and weather, or even with more simple rltoday + some other weather plugin (without smart scrolling function)?
Hum... thats one of those questions thats kinda up to you decide what works best, according to your needs. If you really want a clean ROM, meaning standard apps and all, you go with the official ROM's from your phone provider.
I rather use specific software to do what I need than use a plugin that does everything and some stuff I don't want.

This is from usability point of view, and what is better from performance point of view? All you need (and do not need) in rom or light rom with lot of add-on softwares?
Lets see... if you have all the apps built in the ROM, you won't be able to remove them if an update comes along, you can overwrite them tho, meaning you'll have probably some junk after a while.
If you have a light ROM, if its really good, you won't have any problems with it and you can install whatever you wish as an add-on. Sometimes when you put some software thats not supposed to work with our devices (like HTC Home Plugin, for example) it will slow it down... but if you have it built in on the ROM, it works just fine. That is due to memory allocation problems that do exist on the WM devices. For instance, that was what kept us from installing the Touchflo drivers on Wizard WM5 devices.
Hope that helps you
programs inside the rom dont use any storage or ram of a device unless started
not using all the space in the rom dont make it faster really
so it's better if one removes something to put something else in it's place
because programs installed my the user does! take up storage
and of cause only ram if started
dferreira, as i can see you are using wm5. why? is your build of wm5 faster then original one (i have t-mobile). currently i am using pdaviet wm6 built.
after flashning it i was surprised how fast it was. but now after few installed softwares and a month of using it seems to getting slower. is it just my imagination or you also have that experience?
Any ROM behaves like that after a while. Maybe is something to do with the trash WM leaves behind everytime we install something.
Why I use WM5? Because that's the OS that came with our devices. From what I've tested, there isn't a single WM6 that does work without any bugs (missing calls, wifi not working, etc). Also I find that WM6 makes our device drain the battery a lot faster. So I decided to make a WM5 ROM with the stuff we miss the most on WM6.
i presumed that this is similar to windows installed to pc. i will wait for your new 5.1 release and then will give a chance again to wm5.
for sure i will not miss htc cube or flo.
what about better memory management in wm6? is it possible to improve it in wm5?

Heya,
This is my first WM app, and the first time I've ever had to motivation to finish an application programming project! (I'm more the webby type usually). I hope I've posted this in the right place - I did have a good look around first!
The motivation behind it was that an official Phaser application came out for the iPhone, but it's more of a gamey type app. I wanted a 'phaser' application for my phone (XDA Ignito/HTC Touch Diamond) and there didn't seem to be one out there - so I figured it was time to have a go!
This is based on the Type2 hand phaser from Star Trek: The Next Generation and words on both my phone (WM6.1) and my old iPAQ 2790 (WM5). It seems to require the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 to run.
--
Known bug: the deployment CAB forces the device to install the application in the internal memory rather than the expansion card - otherwise the sounds don't work. I'm working on getting that sorted along with some additional features for version 2.

Your comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated by this humble n00b.

Nice idea, but two bugs atm:
* Doesn't play any sound (path is hardcoded?)
* switching from on -> off -> on the phaser lavel isn't saved
Wishes:
* +/- buttons needs some kind of repeat.
* some nicer gfx
* Output level should be redesigned
* fullscreen
No sound on my device (Blackstone) also being the app installed on main memory. Maybe you have harcoded the %ProgramFiles% path as well? Since I have a localized rom (\Programmi)
Works great on my Tilt. Sound is good, On/off switch does power it down, but no big deal, one would want any fatal accidents caused by accidently turning it on in disruptive mode.
Very nice useless app. Now that's all that you need is WM useless app store, like iPhone and you will be rich.
Nice one.
If you need a layout more "Federantionish" let me know.
---edit---
Found this on google, hope it helps:
Thanks for looking all
Sound bug: I tried putting in relative paths and even just everything in the same folder - but that didn't work at all on either of my devices. Not sure what I'm doing wrong there. I knew that hard-coding wasn't a good way to go, but I'm hoping to work out how to rectify it as I work on the other couple of app ideas I've got, plus version 2 of this.
The line which plays the sound currently looks like:
PlaySound(("/Program Files/ST Apps/sounds/Stunsnd.wav"), IntPtr.Zero, SND_FILENAME Or SND_SYNC)
When I just put everything in one folder, it looked more like:
PlaySound(("Stunsnd.wav"), IntPtr.Zero, SND_FILENAME Or SND_SYNC)
This would definately account for your problem bbonzz. I didn't think about localised ROMs - but of course! Will make sure to remember that. Definately won't be hard-coding paths from now on - I've learned my lesson
Power level drops when switched off 'bug': That was actually deliberate! Personally, I felt that it should reset when you switch it off and on again. However, I may be in the minority here, so I'll take that line out if people would prefer it to save the state.
Small additional thing I put in to help get from 'on' to max' in a hurry is - if you use the up and down buttons on your device, it'll 'jump' to the beginning/end of each level (stun, thermal, disrupt, explode/disrupt), meaning you can get to get to max power in 5 presses rather than 15
I might bind the left and right buttons to be straight to 1 and straight to 16 in version 2 for the same reason. It's nice to be able to get from one end to the other quickly.
Also - re: wishlists and suggestions - all noted and will be taken on board for the next version. Thanks

is an application that warns you for fixed and mobile traffic control spots and radars. It's already used widely in France and Spain. The good thing is that it is cross platform. However, I didn't find any cab for windows mobile yet. I would certainly like to try if it works, before spending e25 on it. Strange thing by the way is, that for Android it costs e10 in the android store.
wikango.com
Currently it looks like Wikango can't be downloaded. If you select the mobile list and select a phone, you will get redirected to the "buy" page instead while it can't be bought at this time. Funny thing.
you're right. They claim though to have thousands of users already!
Since you need a critical mass of users to have accurate information on radar locations, I'm very charmed by the idea of a cross platform solution like this, especially because of the ever increasing amount of smart phones.
Btw, a friend of mine bought it in the android store for e10, and it works great, I've seen it on his HTC Hero. Strangely it's free for iphone in the appstore.
Trapster
Why not try Trapster. It should work on WM
Thanks, that looks like a great tip! I'll be checking that out, see how good it is in my region.
Wikango on Android is a bit of a rip off, as they charge about 10€ for it when the iPhone version is free.
Since they released the first version, there has been no update.
Wikango runs fine on HTC G1 or Hero, but does not work on Droid and Nexus One, although there is no such info on Wikango's web site.
Finally, the devs are not answering to emails.
I have used it a lot on my G1 and, price set appart, I have been quite pleased even if, as I mentionned, there has been no updates and bugs are left uncorrected.
Since I switched to the NExus One, I'm simply unable to use it anymore :-(
Waze
Waze is well worth taking a look at too.
Great! I'll check out Waze too!
I've tried Trapster for some time, and it's not stable enough at the moment on my Topaz. When a phonecall or any other program pops at the front, the Trapster application loses its Google Maps connection, causing you to drive in a blue screen instead of on a map. It's not mature yet on WM and the devs don't respond to my message.
Trapster
Yes, I tried Trapster on my Topaz but found I could not get any display most of the time. Waze seems much better, and copes with occasional loss of data connection (important when your route home is through the countryside!)
Yeah, Waze is stable on my device. And it's fun paving roads!!
Hello to all...
As Windows user and tester I will explain some major things happening in new win October update aka 20H2.
First of all...
ANNOYING CORTANA rises from dead...
As soon update is configured and Windows boots up, take Cortana offline, it is just like virus, it must know everything you are doing and gets me very annoyed just from opening interface on startup. Is this some Microsoft new development of UI to take over your machine ? Who would know. Looks like Cortana is just like COVID 19 , Microsoft spread this globally and then let's you to know that the cure will be developed in near future (win updates again). In simple way to wxplain ... Microsoft once again push Cortana and hopes that people will embrace it and start using it, while not knowing that just like Google history search, it saves any history of using computer and sends it to Microdoft for processing (providing your computer data - all).
Second thing is...
UPDATE RESTORED FIRST DEFAULT SETTINGS after update.
I don't know if you guys are expiriencing this, but why everytime major update kicks in and restores default settings, changing colorson screen, lock screens settings , etc.
I noticed that update removed color from my START MENU (my accent color) and got default grey , now it looks so monochromatic. That's a major update to fix some stuff in Windows
In adition you can't go to the old control panel / system icon anymore. Now it takes you too settings in tab ABOUT.

- that looks like About your phone in phone settings (first clues Microsoft is converting Windows slowly in Android base style OS).
Third...
Microsoft is pushing newly (but old) EDGE browser while integrating it slowly in shell like Google Chrome does, and possibly not giving the user right to erase browser in any way (this is not tested yet, but will test EDGE properties, use and removal of it).
Fourth and last...
Launching your SAMSUNG phones apps in Win desktop.
Why only SAMSUNG phones??
Other models and brands does not exist ???
Microsoft is expanding the “Your Phone” app with more features designed for “select Samsung devices.” They said.
If you have one of these phones, you can now access your phone’s Android apps directly on your Windows 10 PC. They’ll be running on your phone but you can launch, see, and interact with them on your Windows 10 desktop. They said.
Running apps of Android in Windows 10 is a good idea but I mean it is most likely be better for all android based phones to have this support. Which turns me back to JAVA. After all this years JAVA and FLASH (which support ends in about a month) were taken seriously by Microsoft and they developed a interface NOW in 2020 to get apps working in WIn 10 enviroment. Clearly , let's face it, Microsoft is losing the battle with apps and their Microsoft store.
I opened this thread for all of us together and to find any abnormalities, good things and mistakes made by Microsoft and their H2 updates. I hope that everyone viewing this will manage to find extra times to discuss future Win 10 updates as they impact on everyday computer use.
Please everyone write some of yours expiriences with new update.
Thanks and Cheers !
Microsoft keeps getting worse and worse... 1709 remains on of the best versions of Windows 10 but unfortunately RTX 3000 series are not supported.
You could join communities interested in Windows debloating and tweaking,I'm part of one but probably I cannot link it here.
2004 was a good update,some increased performance but higher latency.I didn't test 20H2 yet
