UK O2 GPRS Pay as You Go Settings? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi,
I have tried fiddling around with various different O2 GPRS settings I found on the forums, but I can't seem to any of them to work.
GPRS used to work on my old Nokia fine, and I am using the same SIM card so GPRS should work with my new O2 XDA Mini S phone.
Only problem with the O2 XDA Mini S, is that when you use their GRPS setup program it has Contract selected and Pay as You go is greyed out and you can't select it.
Just wondering if anyone knows the correct settings that works with UK O2 Pay as You Go?
Thanks for any help!

Search under "o2 GPRS settings" and you shall find . . . . . .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279589&highlight=o2+gprs+settings
The Search function is there for a reason.

Using the first settings on that post I get this error message in Internet Explorer:
The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try and later.
Click to collapse
The GPRS seems to be connected as you get the little G symbol with 2 arrows saying its connected.
The 2nd setting on that post gives me fails to connect to GPRS and I get the error message from the system saying:
Cannot Connect
Dialed: mobile.o2.co.uk
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To checked your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again.
Click to collapse
The O2 site doesn't list the O2 XDA Mini S on http://www.o2.co.uk/services/ota4/select and their instructions are to use the O2 GRPS setup program which has Contract selected by default and Pay as You go is greyed out and you can't select it.
The contract settings that it installs by default gives the 2nd error message above.
I think I am pretty much out of ideas?

o2 gprs pay and go settings
The WAP connection uses a proxy server and must be configured under the 'My work network' settings as opposed to the 'My ISP'
Use the following:
Start>Settings>connections>connections
Under my work network select 'add a new modem'
Name - o2 payandgo
Select a modem - Cellular line (GPRS)
Access Point - payandgo.o2.co.uk
Username - payandgo
Password - password
Domain - blank
Hit advanced
Select TCP/IP - Use server assigned IP address
Servers - Use server assigned address
Hit OK and then Finish
Under 'my work network' select 'set up my Proxy'
Tick - This network connects to the internet
Tick - This connection uses a proxy . . .
Hit Advanced
Tap on the WAP field and enter 193.113.200.195 and ensure that the port is set to 9201
OK out of the settings.
Launch the PIE and use the prefix wsp:// to point the browser at the WAP network. Use wap.google.co.uk to test.
** I forgot to point out that you cannot use mobile.o2.co.uk as you have a prepay sim! **

Managed to get it working by kinda merging your settings and the 2 other settings. Works for standard web browsing and WAP browsing, this is how I have got it setup

O2 MMS/GPRS/Internet Settings

Hey guys,
Wondered if any of you could help me out? I'm on contract with O2 and have the XDAIIi. Now I removed the O2 Active plugin for obvious reasons but find that I now have no connection setup for the internet. I've been to O2 and all they keep doin is giving me instructions on how to get it to connect through the O2 Active interface and I keep telling them I removed it.
I need anyone else who is on a contract, or who has the fully manual setup details to possibly post them so I can get mine setup. I'm talking about 'Modem Type', 'Access Point' etc.
Any help would be great, or a link to somewhere else that has the instructions/settings. I really need the MMS and especially GPRS/internet functionality and I'm getting nowhere with O2.
Ta chaps.
Don't understand...
I removed o2active UI stuff but my settings have remained...
Do you have nothing for your network connections from o2?

Auto Setup If THis Helps
Hi Guys
I spent the weekend working on Updating WM2003SE-Sin-Merged-v2.0
(Fantastic work BTW)
I wanted more software installed, automaticly, so spent a long time playing with Sprite, and variouse levels of pre installed software.
whilst playing and restoring factory defaults using the SD backup i had made i found...
On your orriginal Extended bios there is a file called.
o2ActiveUI_engl_4rom.CAB
I installed this, and then found the executable file that used to run on a factory default model, after a hard reset.
(screen asking if you were pay as you go, or pre-paid, or post paid, and which internet setting you wanted installed.
I have now put this file on my XDA in storage, and can run it after a hard reset to setup internet for GPRS and WAP, in just a few second :0p
I have not yet worked out if i can do the same thing with MMS as i believe MMS was updated drematicly with WM2003 SE.
any way, dont know if it helps anyone. but thought id let you know.
IF anyone wants more info on what i have done, ask here, and ill try to write a less rush, and more detailed post.

You lie like a cheap watch.
I just tested it.
Hi I'm new to the forum,
I have used free gprs courtesy of o2 pay as you go with a pocket pc and mobile phone in the past, I never used it much (its so slow) but often wondered if I was getting free access that was unlimited or just xMB of free access? has anyone used free o2 gprs for more than a few pages?
I've just got an MDA compact, I've flashed to get rid of the stupid extended rom T-Mobile put on the device and now I'm using my o2 pay as you go sim, I'm getting free access so far (not debiting my credit), I'll report back if it stays free for more than just a few KB if anyone is interested?
Thanks for the great forum!
Rob
Yes Rob cruisin-thru has been using the free access for a "quote" long time with an o2 sim that has NEVER had credit.
HTTP 8080....?
Err...anyone care to enlighten me ( us ) as to this, please? :?
Smithy318i, care to share the settings with us?

OK, full instructions:
* I recommend deleting any existing GPRS settings you have under the work connection settings before entering these to avoid confusion *
1. Go to Start -> Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections.
2. You'll see 2 sets of option links. 'My ISP' and 'Work'. Under the work links, choose 'Add a new modem connection'.
3. Name for connection: o2 gprs. Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS). Tap Next.
4. Access Point Name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
5. Username: payandgo
6. Password: password
7. Tap Finish.
8. Back in the connections settings screen, tap 'Edit My Proxy Server'.
9. Tick 'This network connects to the Internet' and 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet'.
10. In the proxy server box enter: 193.113.200.195
11. Tap OK.
12. Back in the connections settings screen, tap the Advanced tab.
13. Tap 'Select Networks'
14. In both drop down boxes choose 'Work' as the connection. Tap OK.
15. Tap OK again.
16. You are now ready to surf o2 pay as you go gprs full internet.
I've managed to get WAP over GPRS working now - these intructions from O2 are what I followed - except that I first deleted teh existing connection (Right-tap on it and select delete):
XDA II GPRS WAP manual settings Pre-pay
It is not possible to select the 'Prepaid' option within 'My XDA' Connections in the O2 Active UI on the XDA II - 'Postpaid' is selected as default and cannot be changed.
To use the XDA II with an O2 Prepay SIM then the WAP settings will need to be changed manually - note that it will not be necessary to carry out a hard (full) reset in order to complete this.
IMPORTANT - once the WAP settings have been changed, if a hard reset is carried out at some future point, then the settings will automatically be re-configured back to Postpaid and they will need to be manually changed again..
XDA II Manual Setup - GPRS WAP (Prepay)
Tap Start > Settings
Tap 'Connections' tab
Tap 'Connections' icon
Under 'My Work Network' tap 'Manage existing connections'
Tap 'Edit'
The 'Select a modem:' drop-down box should be set to 'Cellular Line (GPRS)'
Tap 'Next'
Access Point Name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Tap 'Next'
Usernameayandgo
Password: password
Domain: leave blank
Tap 'Advanced'
On the 'TCP/IP' tab, only 'Use server-assigned IP address' should be selected
Tap the 'Servers' tab
Only 'Use server-assigned addresses' should be selected
Tap 'OK'
Tap 'Finish'
Tap 'Proxy Settings' tab (*Note, the soft keyboard may be hiding this tab - tap the keyboard icon at bottom right to clear this away)
Ensure that 'This network connects to the Internet' box is ticked
Ensure that 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet' box is ticked
Tap 'Advanced'
In the 'WAP' field (Server) enter: 193.113.200.195
In the field to the right of this (Port) enter: 9201
Tap 'OK' and exit
Once you have installed the settings into your handset and saved them, please switch off your handset and switch it back on. This will activate the settings for you.

Free GPRS work anyway to get Messenger to use this?
Ok, this works a treat! thanks smithy! It would be great if there was a way I could utilise this with MSN Messenger too. Any ideas? :?
I have never got it to work with messenger, also streaming audio from the net dont want to work either through port 8080.
Back in days of using proxy I remember when we had to put the SOCKS proxy settings MSN only worked after putting in SOCKS settings in MSN options as well.
On PC MSN have Tools > Options > Connection settings
I can not find it on my XDA, there must be a REG setting for this.

Quick newbie question (GPRS setting o2-uk)

Hi,
Sorry for this is a newbie question...
Should the GPRS settings be installed if I do a non-corperate install?
Mine arnt, and using settings from the web doesnt seem to work. I have used GPRS on my other phone with this sim card, so its data enables. If I put an Orange sim card in the Mini s I can use Oranges` GPRS settings no problem. *But i would really like to stay with o2)
If anyone has a fool-proof step by step guide I would be greatful to see it.
ANY help at all would be greatfully recived!!!
Thanks, Paul
PS I have searched this great forum, but couldnt find anything with an answer.
GPRS
are you sure you have the GPRS connection settings on the phone?
the way to check is go to
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS->ADVANCED->SELECT NETWORKS
here you will see what connection is being used and what other connection are available to be used. if the O2 settings are not there you can add them manually.
add the settings from here:
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
hope this helps.

Hi, Thanks for the sppedy reply.
If i go...
I have just re-installed to a basic setup

Tap ADVANCE>the TCP/IP tab is using server assigned IP address, TAP ON SERVERS TAB>USE SPECIFIC SERVER ADDRESS (DNS 193.113.200.200, alt DNS is 193.113.200.201). Tap OK> FINISH
If i try to connect to the net to look at google (or any other page) the large square G turns smaller with the 2 arrows and I get:
Cannot connect
Dialed mobile.o2.co.uk

Stupid question, I don't know the imate site at all - where can you find these settings, specifically Vodafone I'm looking for. I had a browse but couldn't see them.

Thanks Waiho.
I am now able to send MMS on my T-Mobile Vario phone with my o2 Sim.
Can I just highlight that should anyone need to do the MMS config part of your instructions. That they will also need to setup the GPRS WAP settings.
Thanks all. You peeps really are appreciated. This website has done what T-Mobile wanted to charge £15 and a 28 day wait, in 1/2 day (remember I am still learning).

Thanks a lot for the settings, I'll give them a shot later.
Are there any restrictions on incoming message sizes on Vodafone?
I thought it was my P900 that was at fault, it would get to about 47% and then bomb out with an unknown error. But, it received a picture the other day fine, previously it received video messages ok but they were perhaps smaller than the ones I've been sent recently.
The Wizard doesn't have a progress bar but it seems to be doing the same thing, it seems to do nothing for a while then just comes up with an error. It seems to connect to GPRS ok, and remains connected afterwards so I assume the settings are fine.

I have searched this board and have tried about 30 differing settings - including some cab files and none will work for me - it used to work fine... and yes, I am on a contract...
Apart from resetting again and loading the bloatware - is there any foolproof way to get this sorted - I am tearing my hair out!!!
Please help as its driving me mad - the error message I get is "Dialled mobile.o2.co.uk No modem at above number etc..."
OK - back after Doctor Who...
I'm don't know if you've tried the ones on here or not but here goes...

Now this IS strange - decided to reinstall all the o2 bloatware... and the GPRS web access still doesn't work... so what's gone wrong?
ok.... nno need to worry,
1st call your network to confirm you still have GPRS access, bcos networks can sometimes take you off without any notification...
and heres a o2 uk pay monthly cab to setup mms gprs
Hiya - thanks for the info...
Just rang o2 and guess what - gprs is not activated on my sim card... he couldn't tell me where it had gone, but he has added it back on and says it will take 48 hours...
He says I need to ring back for the settings - but surely the correct settings are already on... or do they need to do anything else at that end?
If you done the hard reset and then soft reset when it comes up to warn you that it's about to install the "o2 bloatware" then it's more than likely that the settings for o2 gprs will not be on there. This is because it normally gets installed along with the bloat.
Just wait the 48hrs and if you still can't connect then install the cab file jamichy has provided above or enter the settings manually from...

Hi!
My view:
if your GPRS was working before your hard reset, and not now, I think it's more likely that the O2 rep you talked to has no idea what he/she's on about, rather than the SIM strangely deactiviating GPRS capability.
I also had the same trouble (on O2 contract) getting my GPRS, MMS, and WAP working without the O2 rubbish. I followed these wonderful instructions from the board (can't remember which post they're from), and now all works sweetly,
I hope it works for you!

To get GPRS and MMS to work you also have to put these settings in, they are an adaption of some found on these fourms and other sites because people's instructions weren't as clear and I couldn't get them working. I then did a hard reset and copied down the settings with all the o2 crap installed and then did a proper hard reset:

MMS and GPRS work fine now.
OK - here is an interesting question - why do the numerous cab files for the o2 contract settings all have a password that is longer than the word "password"? :?:

I cant be sure, but its most likely the same reason windows (desktop) does it. once you have saved the password it is just *'s. the number of stars or blobs no longer has to relate to the number of letters in the password (probably to make hidden passwords harder to guess by knowing how long they are). - it hasn't changed the svaed password to something longer, just makes it "look" longer.
UPDATE
Got an email from o2 today regarding my problems...
After checking your number below, it appears that there has been a
problem with GPRS from our side, and nothing to do with the upgrade on
your device. I have enquired with customer care for you, and they advise
that GPRS will be going back on to the network from lunch time tomorrow
(unfortunately no specific timescales can be given). I do apologise for
this, but if you wish to take this further...
Fingers crossed...

Hello, I know this is a bit old but I am having problems setting up my o2 connections on my Wizard recently flashed to TNT5.0.
I've done the above for GPRS and Wap settings but they're not working.
They both ad +1 dial codes, I can't get rid of them for some reason so it won't work. Any clue as to what I'm doing wrong?
Ignore the above, i finally found a working cab file, all is resolved. I am happy!
