Hi!
I have a linksys WRT54G3G wireless router and has set it for WPA encryption on the wireless network. But my HTC TyTN (Hermes) wont connect to it.
If I just say yes on the connection dialog, choose internet and the punch in the WPA key the device hangs and I have to soft reset.
If I create a wireless setting for my network on before hand and then turn radio on my device only says connecting. But never connects to my network.
WEP works fine on the device. And my laptop connects without any problem to both the WEP and WPA encrypted networks.
Does anyone have an idea what's wrong and how I can fix it?
Best regards,

It's working for me...
HTC TyTN with Linksys WAP-54G.
I use WPA-PSK with TKIP. All is working.
I've just selected such a parameters in setup window in my TyTN, set the key and all started to work perfect.
Hi mikechannon!
Thanks for the threads! I haven't seen them, but unfortunealy they don't help much. I have MAC filters turned on. But I don't have the same router. May be that's the problem. I'll try contacting linksys support next week. My device works fine with WEP encryption. But I'd like to secure my network a little bit more...

hi,
I have had the same problem with my WRT54GS, and solved by choosing WEP security, but now after seeing this thread and following links I installed recent firmware from Linksys and... pronto! WPA / TKIP works smoothly. Thanks, folx.

Hi all !
As far as i can understand there is no WPA support on Universal.
Did anybody hear about the plans or is there any third-party software that provides WPA functionality on Universal ?
Regards.
Orange SPV M5000 flashed with JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10402.

huh?
currently supported is WPA-PSK, WPA-TKIP and WPA-WEP...
If you meant WPA2 with AES: I dont know.
I had asked (much) the same question before buying my O2 EXEC and found the answer here
http://certifications.wi-fi.org/wbcs_certified_products.php?TID=2
Select High Tech Computer Corp (HTC) and Submit and you'll see the Exec listed as (if I remember correctly) PU10. It claims to have
WPA™ - Personal
WPA™ - Enterprise
EAP-TLS

How to achieve it ? I can see ONLY LEAP in my wireless config.
Can you help ? Did you try ?
can anyone help with this issue?
I am not sure as to how to proceed (and my obvious insufficient knowledge of wireless networks is not helping...).
I am currently using WEP, so my educated guess is that if I set WPA on my router I will be automatically prompted to sign-in with my WPA encrypted password.
Can I have confirmation of this; and also - do I need to enable/disable any setting on my xdaExec before I attempt to connect my device using WPA.
I use WPA-TKIP
I use WPA-TKIP with my JasJar. Not sure exactly how I set it up, but can't remember that I struggeled with it.
Believe I just setup WPA on 3Com router and when JasJar connected I was aksed to enter the code/passkey, and then it worked. ...possible I did some changes on JasJar setup also...?
Actually I had some more problems due to that I also use MAC filthering on the router, and if I added my JasJar's MAC AFTER setting up WPA, it did not work, and I had to remove from JasJar and reconnect again, type passkey, and then it worked. ...but if you don't use MAC filthering, this will not be an issue.
If you struggle with it, I can remove and add it again when I get home, and note down the steps.
Thanks mrGydar :!:
I appreciate your effort.
Before you re-configure your setup - I'll attempt to alter my setup to WPA and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out within a day - I'll let you know!
OK
Just for info, settings on my JasJar is right now in settings for my homenetwork:
Authentications: WPA-PSK
Data Encryption: Passkey
Best of luck, and if U struggle, let me know, and I'll write down the steps.

Don't speak too loudly. I don't want my o2 Exc to discover it's been doing something it shouldn't for the last 6-weeks.
However, I have my Exec configured for my own and four different client's networks using WPA-PSK, TKIP and MAC-filtering, so it definately *does* work. I have the habit of presetting the connection settings since my key is 27-alphanumeric characters and it's a pain typing that in blind.
There is something strange depending upon which way you go about the configuration. On a few occasions, I've clicked the Authentication dropdown arrow to find only Open or Shared options listed - no WPA or WPA-PSK in sight. I've then turned the wireless off/on, sometimes reset, or just gone back into the configuration screen a different way and the options were back again.
It's usually happened when I've been rebuilding the system after an enforced hard reset, so I've never been in the mood to track the problem further - too busy trying not to smash the damn thing against the wall!
correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't WPA security for 802.11g and up.
This model supports 802.11b only so it will not do WPA.
afaik this would mean WEP is the only option.

Don't think so. I have a couple of clients with laptops only capable of 11b and they connect at 11b to multi-speed wireless/ADSL-routers using WPA-PSK without problems. Probably depends upon the age of the router device's firm- and hard-ware. Think one of my earlier ZyXEL models had only WEP when it arrived, but then a firmware update added WPA.
People
I am happy to say - I have just checked it out and it works :!: :!:
Earlier I reconfigured my router from WEP to WPA, and a few minutes ago I switched the wifi-ON, on my Exec - it just located my home network and asked for it's WPA catchphrase (password);
I didn't have to configure anything else. Just to be certain I used the internet explorer to surf a bit - and it did so with no problems whatsoever!

I must admit I had trouble finding out where you configure the wireless adapter in the Universal... But there's no worry because WPA and everything else can be configured here...!
Firstly ensure that the wireless adapter is switched on in the Wireless Manager... FN + -> key,
Once this has done, the wireless adpater will scan for networks in range. At this point some users will be prompted for the WPA key as mentioned in previous posts (this didn't work for me).
However, if you go to Start... Settings... Connections... Network Cards now, there will be a Configure Wireless Networks tab (wireless tab)... Here you can click Add New to enter the Network Name, and specify the WPA key via the "Network Key" tab.
Hope this helps some new users of the Universal!
Hi!
I do have problem to connect the device (o2 xda mini S) to WLAN. It recognizes the network, asks for the WPA-PSK key and then attempts to connect - but fails.
If I configure the device with a static IP this IP shows up during the
connection process after a while but the device isn't connected anyway.
If I use DHCP I get no IP ever.
I also tried a very simple 8 alphanum character key.
What may be wrong here?
I hope you get an answer soon, because I have the same problem. Enter the key, then no connect. I also tried it with security turned off on the router, no connect. This thing connected every time before 2.26 ROM update.
bump - having the same issue
bump
Hope there's a reply; having the same issue but I think it's router specific too. I am on Dlink DI-614+ and a friend of mine who has DI-524 (i think) has no problem connecting reconnecting.
if you figure out a way to get it to work, please PM me... I have not figured out this problem yet.
I might try to disable all of my router settings (WEP).. but that would only mess my already configured other devices up.
Stupid question, but is it a B/G router or is it configured to only do one of them ?
Well, I got it to work by disabling encryption and leaving the AP all open...
So, apparently the software has some WPA-PSK-related bugs
Same thing with 2.24a Mr.Clean. Open AP works fine, and any encryption messes the whole thing up. The connection is done, it even gets the IP - and continues to blink arrows and no data comes through.
Windows Mobile only knows TKIP but as I was using AES and wanted to continue using AES on the other machines I configured the router to provide "TKIP and AES". Well, this didn't work but TKIP only actually works now.
I've been having the same problems, could connect to unsecured networks, no problems. The thing would just refuse to connect to my home WLAN (Belkin 54G set to B/G), secured with WPA-PSK and TKIP data encryption. However, just updated the router's firmware from the Belkin website, and BINGO!!!! It found the router, I entered the key and immediately connected, fast too. Just try updating the firmware of your router!
I agree on the router upgrades. And some routers are just crap, sorry to say. I've had bad luck with Belkins and Netgears. Linksys and D-Link typically give me much less problems. You also need to make sure that you installed the registry settings to enable G networks on you device (of course)
I have a Sonicwall using WPA-PSK with no problems.
I personally like molski's tweaks to make the necessary registry settings on my device ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=58438
Hope I was of some help.
Searched and searched, Has anyone had an issue with using the wlan SD8686 with WPA?
I can connect with no security and with WEP and I am able to browse the web.
I can still connect to the router using any of the WPA but can not get any pages to load in IE only works with wep or no security. 3 other laptops work fine.
Any idea? HTC Tech support no help.

I can't answer.. but that reminds me the WPA issue that I have with the HTC Touch ..... my Touch is unable to use any WPA ... when connected the touch just freeze .. and I have to soft-reset and hope to the Wireless not connecting before being connected before disabling the Wireless.
it seems that WPA or the wireless chip is really bad ... but don't know which one !
Shift works fine with WPA I am currently using TKIP+AES
I have had nothing but issues with my Shift and Belking N Router using WEP...
Sometimes it would connect, the majority of the time the shift couldn't see the network and it did connect it would lose connection. I tried it with WEP and also with no security and also with MAC address authentication only. Every 50 times I tried to connect, it would connect maybe once.
So, decided to use my old standard 54g Belking router. Guess what, no issue so far with no security applied. Was planning to try it with WEP later....

No connection
Hi,
maybe someone can help. Since yesterday I belong tot he proud owners. But, but, I can’t get a connection to the internet over my WLAN router.
Router Netgear WPNT834. Whatever I did no luck: either I get the message: limited connectivity or only local Zugriff connection something like that.
No problem with XP notebooks, but with Shift and Vista.
Has anyone an idea what causes the problem? Is it the router?
Do you know any router you can recommend: strong signal and reliability?
Thanks
Settembrini
No issue with WPA here
Hi Settembrini,
So you got your Shift from Amazon.de at the same time as they delivered mine after all
Regarding the WiFi connection to the router, it seems to be some routers / chipsets.
I am also using WPA (with a Siemens SX550i router) and it worked without any problems. The Shift detected an encrypted network with hidden SSID and after I entered the SSID and the encryption password it connected immediately and with a stable connection.
WLAN access
Hi mw65719
yes, more or less same time.
So what is the conclusion? It is my Netgear router WPNT834, why I do not get a connection? Need for a new router it seems!
Thanks!
S.
Yes same here, I just bought the new Belkin N1 Vision router and all other equipment works but the Shift can't even see the the router. I just hooked a netgear router in series with the belkin and the Shift can now see the Netgear..... Was worried for a bit there.... Really annoyed about the shift not being able to see the belkin, the Belkin wasn't cheap.
Hi,
I was not able to establish a connection to my Netgear router WPNT834, then I tried the Speedport 700 V and it worked without any problems, no special settings in Vista neccessary.
I guess you have a different Netgear router than mine.

Hi, I have HTC Touch HD New. I have home wireless secured router DHCP with (WPA2 Mixed) with paraphrase While trying to connect I ran through wizard to connect to my wireless no luck. Then gave static IP , changed WPA2 to WPA/TKP, changed channel from 5 to 11 no response, stopped Firewall, anything what can be done with router did…..no connection. The HD sees the network, but refuse to connect. Although, I am able to connect to an unsecured networks. All other media that connected to my wireless network works fine. Also I have noticed that wile running wizard the: "Use IEE8021x network access control" is checked and gray so I am unable to uncheck it. Maybe here is the problem.. no clue. Appreciate any suggestion.
Hi,
I can confirm I have the same problem.
Not only with Touch HD but also with HTC Rapheal.
If I find a solution I will let you know.
I had this problem too. In the wizard you have to specify it as a 'worknetwork', not 'internet'. The 'internet' option is for public (secured) networks like on a café. Then again, maybe you did this already. I have a WEP encryption.
You might also want to check, if your HD connects at all by turning off encryption in your WLAN router.
If your HD connects fine, then check in Advanced Config under the "Network" section, if you have WPA authentication enabled. My ROM had this disabled. After I enabled this option and made a soft-reset, my HD could connect to my WPA2(AES) secured network.
If everything else fails, you might try this free supplicant: http://www.securew2.com/products/
Please, report back if and how you resolved the problem !
None of the sugestions here (post #3, #4 and #5) solved my problem.
It's still not possible to connect to a secured network.
Tried without MAC filtering and vissible network but no joy.
I use WPA-PSK with a network key.
Unsecured it connects fine.

I had the same problem with my Linksys Wrt54g Router using WPA-PSK, no matter what I tried it just would not connect. Without encryption or WEP encryption it worked just fine. Did set Wifi to performance oriented on the HD since that seems to have helped others but still no success.....
Here's the rub: I had installed Schaps Advanced Config tool before and had enabled WPA authentication under network. In a last attempt I set WPA Auth. to disabled, did a soft reset.....activated Wifi, entered my (27 character) passphrase and...my HD connects to my router using WPA-PSK and MAC-filtering without a problem...so that might be worth checking as well...
i hav no problem conneting my blackstone to my linksys wrt610 router using wpa2-aes. maybe you hav ur mac adres filtering turned on
just my 2 cents
Ditto post #8..
I have just connected for the first time to my work network, WPA-PSK(AES) and it connected fine without any problems.
Switched on CM, waited for the phone to list the networks, selected the one I needed and then choose "work" for connection and entered our passphrase. Sync'd up without a hitch.
Just to put this out there - do not connect your phone to the pc when trying to go wifi. It is disabled when activsync is... active.
Hi,
Thanks for the help.
Yes MAC filter is enabled but I've added the adress of HD to the list so it should work.
Today I've changed the channel in my Zyxel router to channel 11 and ques what....
IT WORKS FINALLY !
Channel 11 I choose because that's what the Touch HD chooses in WLan settings.
Maybe this helps for other people as well.
Edit;
A small update to mention.
I have two devices here, Touch Pro and Touch HD.
They both connect fine now.
Also the Touch Pro seems to pick channel 11 as default channel !
I would love to see someone confirms this because it was a real bugger to me.
Edit 2;
With MAC filter enabled both devices won't connect.
Weird thing is, both devices have the same MAC adres !

Are you sure you're seeing it correctly??? MAC addresses are unique, just as telephone numbers are unique to the phone system. Same concept. No two wifi devices are supposed to have the same mac address...
I was having the same issue: not being able to connect my HD to my wireless network. Very frustrating... Then I remembered I use a controlled Access List, on my wireless router, based on MAC addresses. Once I put my HD's MAC in the list, I was able to connect.
I made a mistake.
I connected both devices to the desktop with Active sync to find out MAC.
If I give the command 'IPCONFIG /ALL' both WM devices have the same physical adress,
but after I succesfull made a wifi connection (without MAC filter) with both devices,
I noticed that the MAC adresses are different on both devices in the router config window.
I've added both adresses to MAC filter and enable.
Now everything is up and running !

i connect my laptop to my wifi router and it works great. i connect my hd to my wifi router and it works (again) great
but if i connect my hd to my laptop via usb and activesync, my laptop lose wifi connection. i reconnect it, keeps connection for few seconds and it loose it again.
any advice?
thank you!
Confirmed...
Had the same problem, Advanced Config WPA disabled works like a charm, if you enable it it actually disables it...
I connect to a Linksys broadband router with Mac filtering and WEP with no problems. Too lazy to try WPA2 because I'll have to reconfigure 3 PC's and two wireless printers. If I do try WPA(2), I post here.
I have WPA2-PSK with mac filtering and ssid broadcasting disabled. And I never had any problems, my router is linksys wag200 if it matters. Maybe you just do something wrong?

Note: This may be in a slightly different place in ActiveSync on XP.
I have Windows Mobile Device Center on Vista and I had the same trouble until I went to Mobile Device Settings > Connection Settings > check "Allow data connections on device when connected to PC"

Just noticed you said laptop loses wi-fi.... I assumed HD loses wi-fi. My bad.
This may or may not help some of you, but I found out (the hard way) that the WLAN pre-shared key "passphrase" may only be 12 bytes long. Any more and it will not work.

Need some help from the kind forumers here.
I have problem with my X1's Wifi.
I can connect to my wireless network which uses WEP encryption. However, I am not able to surt the net with Internet Explorer or with Opera Browser.
When I try to connect to other unsecured networks, that network's status changes from "Available" to "Connecting". However, it would then change to "Unavailable".
Is the Wifi faulty?
Thanks in advance.
sounds like you have the wrong WEP key on your phone. Try to remove any security from your router first and try again. If this works it shows that the wifi is working. You then will want to think about adding more security. WEP is pretty crap these days, so think about WPA instead (unless you have to use WEP).
