No mp3' help!! - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I was referred here to you from the 3G forum as they suggested that you might be able to help
It started when i installed PocketDivx, was not that impressed with it so i removed it under the delete programs icon. Problem now is that all my MP3 files will not play with windows media player, the file icon has changed and it keeps saying unrecognised format however, if i open TCPMP and directly open a MP3 the file icon is correct and it plays ok...I am sure that when i uninstalled PocketDivx not everything went off because the launcher icon is still in the folder. I have now removed all reference of PocketDivx from the registry so the icon has now gone but the problem is still there..I suppose I could use TCPMP to play my files but i did have mp3 files set up as ring tones etc so the problem wants sorting.
I would not like to do a hard reset as i would loose all my settings however, if there is a file missing and it can be identified i have access to another M5000 to transfer it over.
Any ideas on this??

MDA does not play neither mp3 no wma as a ringtone

Hi, all!
I got this problem: my MDA compact does not play neither mp3 no wma as a ringtone.
I changed a ROM to last i-Mate ROM, but problem persists.
Anyone got an idea?
ehmmm do it manually
what u have to do is, transfer the mp3 file from your computer to you MDA storage card. Then copy the file by tap and holding the file then click on copy... Then you go to Program -> File explorer -> windows -> ringtone and then paste it there...Now you have it ready for your ringtone file... Tell me if it works
Nothing works
Well, I put an mp3 file into \windows\rings\ and I can see it in Settings - Sounds and notifications and I can select it as a ringtone but when I press OK selected mp3 resets to windows default ringtone. The same situation with wma even with preinstalled wma such as Roaring guitar.
i get the same problem
seems like I catch a tail of the problem
On a clear device after hard reset everything is OK, ergo, the problem is in an installed software.
only software installed is SPB POcket Plus, GPRS Monitor, handyswitcher. resco explorer
Find it!

Have you iMusic (aka withMP3) player installed? In my case this software prevents MDA from playing mp3 as a ring
nope not installed
I have the same problem, with me it occured after changing the ringtone dir to the SD card, as described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15902. After that, my ringtone keeps getting reset in the tools/options menu of the phone app, although I changed the registry key back to Windows/Rings. And that is strange, since the WIndows Default tone is not even in that folder, but in the WIndows dir! soft reset did also not work, and even altering the registry to make the default ringtone another one just resulted in no ringtone at all when a call is incoming! Any suggestions anyone?
OK, I may have a solution to your problem. After I f**ked up my register ( see my post above), I had the same problem. I fixed my register first, and then did the following:
-go to the ringtone you want ( in any location, be it your storage card, Windows folder or anywhere else) with File Explorer,
-just tap and hold the ringtone and from the pop-up menu select: "set as ringtone".
The file is then copied to the Windows/Rings folder, becomes visible in the list of ringtones you can choose and is automatically installed as your default ringtone. With me it worked, hope it does the same for you. Good luck!
I have been experimenting one this and basically from what I understand, you have to do the following:
If you want the thing to work as a default ring tone, I mean for any calls:
1) Copy the MP3 to Windows\Ring
2) Make sure the default application playing MP3 is working. Thus, if yo are using PocketMusic, make sure that when you click an MP3 file, PocketMusic will launch automatically. Otherwise, select Windows Media Player.
If you want ring tones for your homies:
1) Go to Photo Contacts.
2) Tap and Hold for your buddy and assign an MP3 ringtone.
I've encountered the same problem as antifa. When I try to choose an MP3 (saved in the Windows/Rings folder), it defaults back to Windows Default when I press the OK button to confirm the new ringtone selection.
It looks like the problem is related to file associations. After un-installing a particular software I lost the MP3 file association in such a way that tapping on an MP3 file from file explorer does not load media player.
I have now fixed the file association problem (using a 3rd party app) but the ringotone problem is still there!!
Any ideas please?

not tried this app but it looks like what I have been searching for ever since I got my Jam
If it works then you deserve massive kudos for this post
I'll see to that. If it fixes my messed up file associations, I owe you a beer.
i have the same problem using pocketmusic, lets hope this software sorts the problem, have not downloaded it yet but if it works please let us know
It works just great! THX! Now I got my old ringtones back plus can play mp3's as ringtones! Great stuff on the top of all it consumpts very little amount of memory. there is only one snag: works only if installed in the main memory not the storage card.
Glad it did the trick
Could you plz advise on that matter too?

Ring tone/MP3 problem

I have added bunch of MP3's to my storage card at the root level. 2 things are happening that are real weird.
1. They show up in the ringtone list but will not play.
2. When you go directly to file and try to launch and error pops up that reads. "the file can not be opened. either it is not signd with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore the file." The wierd thing is if I pull it into WM player it works just fine. I only get this error when I try to open the file directly which I blieve if this is corrected my ring tones will work again.
Thanks for you help

You tried putting these in the 'ring tones' folder to see if you have the same problem?
yep same problem there. I hate to do a hard reset, but i'm running out of ideas.
Sorry if it's a silly question but are you sure they're mp3 format, not aac or wma or something else?
i double checked and they are mp3.
Have you installed a 3rd party application that is registered as the default player for MP3? if yes - you need to make WMP the default player back.
how do I make it the default again?
I to am having the same problem....... My mp3 ringtones were working fine until I downloaded Pocket Music and all my mp3's were converted to pocket music. I tried to convert them back to WMP by using RESCO file explorer. I would "play with" and choose WMP and get an error saying "The System cannot find the path specified." Of course im no the most technical person, so if anyone can explain that and tell me what I need to do to fix the problem I would realy appreciate it.
Thanks
Ring Tone
I'm having a similar problem (Wizard). The ONLY ring tone that will play is the Windows Default. It won't play MP3, WAV or WMA, whether it's in the Windows root, the storage card root, the Ring Tones directory or the Rings directory.
At least the Windows Default will play otherwise I wouldn't have ANY ring tone.
Update: In another thread someone said change the associations in Pocket Player. Well, I don't have Pocket Player but I DO have BetaPlayer. I dropped the mp3 association and the WAV and WMA associations and the ringtones are working again!
I have the same problems with mp3 files as ringtone. I even delete the GSPlayer from the PPC...and still the same error. I try moving it directly to the ringtone folder...still no luck...
Can anyone help?

Do the Mp3 have to be in a particular codec or bit rate to work? Some of mine work. Some don't and I've noticed the ones that I've made myself are the ones that don't work...oh and some trekker ringtones I downloaded
Same here.
I removed all of the file associations with BetaPlayer and I am still having problems. I have a program called PocketTweak that lets me actually assign associations, but I cannot see all of my program files.
Let me know if anybody finds a resolution to this ... or if you know how to see all of the files so I can start associating WMPlayer to them. I have a feeling if I can figure that out, the ringers will start working again. But I could be wrong ...
Kangle
I found a fix for me.
I also have GSFinder. I used that to look at my file extensions and noticed that the file extension mp3 was gone, even though it appeared in my PocketTweak program. I added the extension mp3 and chose Windows Media file as the program to open it.
Then I went back into phone settings and presto. MP3 ringtones are now playing again.
Hope this helps some of you. I think installing PocketTweak somehow messed it up b/c it was working fine before then, even after installing BetaPlayer.
However, I did change some associations with BetaPlayer last night b/c I had a problem saving internet radio stations links to my PDA b/c BetaPlayer would automatically launch/open the stream as opposed to giving me the option to save. I wanted to save them b/c I use GSPlayer to listen to audio. So there is also a possibilty that I changed something last night that caused it not to work today. Oh well ... again, I hope this helps some of you.

Need help determining what may have caused VM to stop playing in email!

OK, here's the backround info. My wife uses her T-Mobile MDA to log onto her jobs email server via EDGE. Her voice mails are automatically sent to her email, and she's been able to check her email on her MDA and be able to play them in the media player. All of a sudden, she says she's now getting an error message saying that a component is missing (I don't have the phone with me now). So, she calls me and asks me what I did to her phone. I have no idea what would cause this to stop working. Can someone help me brain storm? I know I should have the phone with me to describe exactly what the message is but I'm not able to get it from her at the moment. Just trying to think of some possible reasons.
Her phone is using the original T-Mobile USA ROM, we just added the following programs recently: 1) NoteM (which didn't work properly) 2) TodayAgenda 3) Smartbutton 4) Oxios Hibernate.
I also removed two programs: some T-Mobile Hot Spot manager (never uses wifi) and the other, I can't remember what it was. It was sofware that's been on the phone since we bought it new but I didn't think she needed it. I can't remember what it is for the life of me.
So, if someone has a suggestion, please let me know. Also, is there a list of all programs that came stock on the MDA?
OK. This is the error message I get when I try to download the WAV file for the voice mail: "The file 'VOICEATT' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file."
It let's me download the file now but when I try to play it, I get the message above. Also, the file just has a generic white piece of paper look to it with the MS icon in the middle. She says this was working fine before, it just stoped working this week. BTW, I also added .NET Framework to her device last week as well. Added this because I couldn't get Smart button to work without it. She said it used to open in the Media player, no problems. Any ideas what might be causing this? Looks like the file is not recognized anymore.
Also, I just downloaded the same file to my Artemis and it shows up as a windows wave file icon. No problems playing it on my desktop or my phone. But the MDA will not recognize the file no matter what. What's even more strange is that I can play the file with MS Notes? It still has the same generic icon, but I can play the files in Notes, but not in WMP. What could have caused WMP to stop recognizing wave files? I can still play her MP3 on her storage card in WMP though.
Also, I added a Security Prompt Bug Fix to turn off the security. Before I added this, it wouldn't even let me download the file. Now it downloads but I just can't play it.

we just went to avaya voip at work and now get VMs in our email as well. i had the same issue, and couldnt figure out why WMP couldnt play WAV files... doesnt make sense. but anyways i installed TCMP (http://www.freewareppc.com/multimedia/tcpmp.shtml) and set it to be the default player for everything... when opening up wav files it still says unsupported codec. what the hell can it play if it can't play wav files? i ended up going to a different WM6 build where WMP would work (tested it just now). so the only thing i can suggest is finding a CAB for WMP and installing again or play around with the ten million WM6 builds...

I downloaded Conduits Meda Player and it plays the files but it wont automatically play the files when you click on them. I could not find a setting that would make it automatically open and play the file - it would just open the program. Then you had to open the folder where the file was stored. Since I also discovered that the Notes program would play the WAV files, I just uninstalled the Conduits prog, and now I'm having my wife just use notes instead. It's a little cumbersome, but until I can find a media player that can open automatically and play the darn files, may as well use Notes.

Since audio is basically all you need, try this great little app. This is the updated version, and has a settings option to play at open.
Enjoy!

By the way TCPMP does have a setting to "play at open"
In TCPMP go to Options>settings
[pict1]
Select page>player check box at play at open. Tap OK [pict2]

Loading Music Files

Hi all,
This may be a dumb question but as a "newbe" to he HD can someone tell me the correct method and or directory structure required when copying music files to the storage card? I tried puting them in Music/"album name"/ but my HD did not find them. I followed the manual and used actisync and WM11 but it still did not work. Have done a hard reset as after trying these two methods the original two songs did not show either. Any help would be appreciated.
You need to add the Music Tracks to the Windows Media Library - once you've copied the files across onto the Memory Card (it really doesn't matter on the Directory Structure) go into Windows Media - it normally takes you straight to the Library - then from the Menu select "Update Library ..." and wait a while.
Many thanks
Hi Paul,
Thanks for the quick response, I new it had to be something simple.
Adding Music to TF3D music player.
Hi there,
I was struggeling with the same thing.
Remove; Application Data\HTC\HTC Album\AudioManager_Eng\'Audiomanager_Eng.vol' and softreset.
If you can't remove this file softreset first and try again.
After the file is removed and a softreset is done TF3D will add your music automatically to the library when you scroll to the today music player.
It is music/artist/album.
You might want to get a small piece of software on your PC to check the music ID tags. I had alot of problems to start with and found that deleting the album no and comments gave no problems.
You dont have to use active sync through WMP11. You can simply use the explore on active sync to find your music folder and then drag and drop.
To delete audiomanager.exe you will have to disable touchflo.
I'm having the same problem with the TouchFlow3D media player. However I don't seem to have the folder structure you mention. I have ...
"Application Data\HTC\HTC Album" but there's no "AudioManager_Eng" folder. My "AudioManager_Eng" folder is located at "Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng" and in there I DO NOT have "Audiomanager_Eng.vol".
Any other suggestions?
Thank you,
Mike
1. if you add a lot of music files it will take a long time for your HD to find them. a very long time!
2. to test, start with 1 or 2 albums in mp3 format
3. take care that each of the mp3 files to have the same album name on the Id Tag
4. on your card you can have any structure. i use something similar to my PC: music/artist/album
5. you can add a picture (artwork) within the respective folder for each album and it will be displayed on the tf3d player (the name should be folder.jpg for each picture)
if you respect these steps for sure it will work. you can also use s2p and the albums pictures will look very cool when you wil slide them
good luck!
Any update on this? Mine doesn't work..
Help!
I don't know what's wrong with my HTC Diamond. I got the Sprint version. It was working fine until a few days ago. Everytime a play a song on the TF3D player, it plays the songs, but then it stops the songs halfway thru, and then it wont continue playing unless I restart the whole song. I tried doing the Hard reset, soft reset, follow the steps above and it still does the same thing. On the WM player, they work fine, but not on the TF3D player. Pls help
