floyd007,
Funny you should mention that. I have a Sandisc 1G card and when I try to do any removal or adding to when its in my card reader it says the same media is write protected when I know that it isnt. When I stick er in my Jam its fine, Whats Up!
I´ll send you mine and get yours?
perhaps we should try a special format solution but wich one?

If it is an sd card and the write protect is in the off position, then try sticking a piece of tape over the gap where the switch is on the card to completely cover it.
thanks cruisin,
I tried this, but no success!
tried new card export II to simulate storage mass - no success!
I think I must send the magician to service!
I had the same trouble with my Compact and it was solved after removing ActiveSync

SD card issues and a couple of other questions

Hello,
1. I keep having the same issue with my I-mate Jam (originally purchased from Orange Israel). Every now and then I get a prompt saying the SD card is unreadable and whether I wish to format it. The data on the card itself remains intact and perfectly readable. Is there any known solution to this? The SD card is a Kingston 512Mb standard SD.
2. I wish to purchase a larger SD card. Any known size limit to those? I've bumped into 4 GB cards. Are these supported by the magician?
3. I wish to clear the call duration counters, any known way to do this?
Thank you in advance,
Lior, Israel.

I've always used SanDisk standard cards without any problems and currently using a 2GB where all the TT West EU and USA+Canada maps are installed. Ultra II or III are just a waste of money since there is no speed gain in the Magician. Some users have tried 4GB RS MMC cards but there's are mix feelings. I suggest you search for the thread and read through it.
Here's another thread regarding SD Card size/formatting issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282104
I have seen another posting on resetting call duration - search for it, and you'll find it. I think it involves HEX editing, and the instructions may have been for a specific phone model.

Mem-card installed progs gone after power drain?

I believe that the power totally drained on my 8525.
It seems that all of the INSTALLED programs that I elected to install on the storage card are now gone.
Programs installed directly to the device are still there, but anything that I installed and selected "Storage Card" rather than device during install are gone. Their directories and everything else that I later copied into those directories are gone.
Stuff that I drectly copied over to the storage card (rather than installing), seem to be gone as well, though the parent directories are there.
In the Windows Start menu there are only generic icons left for those programs. A bunch were free, but there were a few registered apps that are gone as well. Apps the the previous owner had bought, and so I don't have the reg keys for (hopefully reinstalling will work on some of them if the registration data is in the registry and the new install doesn't overwrite it).
Unfortunately I have only had the phone for about 2 weeks and was still tweaking it to get it where I like, so I had not yet backed-up my storage card...
I thought that WM5 had persistent storage? I have powered the device down in the past and had no problems.
Anyone know what might have caused this (other than a possibly defective storage card...)?
Thanks,
Brain21
What firmware are you running? I've seen this problem on my JASJAM when running the latest AKU3.3 WWE ROM from HTC (and there's a solution to this problem - use the search). Can't recall ever seeing this problem appear with i-mate's latest AKU2.3 ROM.
Strange, never heard of an SD card loosing stuff because of the device losing power. May be worth pulling the card out and checking it with a card reader on your PC. See if your files are there or not, then reformat the card just to be sure its ok maybe?
It's the standard Cingular shipping ROM I *believe*:
ROM Version: 1.34.502.1
ROM Date: 9/21/06
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.53.7018.01H
It's a HERM100
The only thing I ever did as far as that stuff goes was upgrade the radio version to the one above while I was unlocking the phone (I am on T-Mobile)
Unfortuately I don't currently have a reader for my PC that accepts Micro SD Cards. I need to get one of those SD adapters or something...

If you haven't already I would soft reset and then hook up active sync and use the explore facility to go to the card a see what's there.
I have seen things come back after a soft reset and / or taking card out and in.

That's pretty much the first thing I did. Soft reset & connect. Power off, pull out card, reinsert, power on, reconnect. Same thing every time. :-(
And just to clarify on my post above, I SIM unlocked the phone. I have NOT CID Unlocked the phone.
You might try checking the SdCard with Pocket Mechanic. Run Scandisk from Pocket Mechanic
http://www.wizcode.com/
Losing power would not have had anything to with losing data on sdcard. Even in the old days, when power was lost, the main memory was affected not the SdCard
Does anything show up on the SdCard?
Pocket Mechanic is a nice app and has a free trial.

Hi,
I can't find this solution, does anyone have a link to the thread describing the solution to this problem?
Thanks.

SD Card + Flashing help

Hey there,
A mate has a HTC Trinity (actually a Dopod 810) running WM5, and the miniSD reader seems to be faulty. He only got it a few days ago.
It was working fine when he got the card (2gb), but recently it was being charged from USB, and when a USB flash drive was plugged in and accessed(on these temperamental computers), the computer automatically rebooted, my diagnosis being that they are old and crappy (windows error reporting said something about antivirus software causing it). Activesync wasnt installed, and the found new hardware wizard was cancelled.
This is the only time where i think it couldve somehow been damaged, but i dont get how when the SD card wasnt being accessed at the time (it was in 'standby'), how it affected it and nothing else.
Anyway, he's tried different SD Cards, Soft and Hard reset with it in and out. When the card is inserted it shows in System > About and the backlight lights up, but according to the 'storage card' section there is no card inserted.
Any ideas at all? Would flashing it to 6.1 help? Can anyone suggest the latest and greatest ROM for the Dopod 810? There are heaps of them, but he wants one that looks good but won't be bogged down heaps so theres no RAM/ROM for anything else. Is there a guide for noobs on how to flash to a ROM? Seems theres something to do with SPL somewhere?

Have you taken the MicroSD card out and put it back in again?
I would be inclined to turn it off, take out the card, turn it on, then off again. Then put the card in and turn it on.
Yes, already tried that...nothing happened. Still is like the card isn't there...
I tried to read the MicroSD card with a reader on a pc:
well, it start reading it, shows the files and the everything disappears again! As if the card wasn't there and it says: insert a disk....
I don't understand how it first find it and read the content and then it all disappears....maybe some corruped file in some directory?
Any suggestion on how to recover my data??
