I'm on Vodafone in the Netherlands with the Radio version that was in the SA Rom and it works better than the one in the latest 2 Cingular Roms! It even switches back to UMTS, here at my home where b4 when it got on GPRS it never would switch back!
Hope this helps,
Mark.

Orange works Vodafone doesn't! Unlocked with Manipulator

Hi everyone. Great programme thanks but can anyone tell me why my Vodafone contract SIM won't work? I get a signal fine, It detects the Vodafone network fine. But every call drops before connection with Unable to Place Call message. Also will not take incoming calls. My Orange Pay as You Go SIM now works fine... and it has definitely unlocked as only O2 worked before. But I need Vodafone SIM to work.
The Vodafone SIM still works in all other handsets. I have also checked with Vodafone and they say there is no reason why the SIM should not work in un unlocked XDA. There are no calls barred on the account.
Is it a setting I have wrong? Or something I did wrong in the unlocking process? Many thanks for anyone's help.
My XDA is Pocket PC 2002, 32mb RAM
Rom Version: 3.12.07 eng
Rom Date. O8.13.02
Radio Ver: 4.06
Protocol 32S54

Hi mate,
I have used the unlocked 64 mb xda with vodaphone with no problems. My rom was 3.16 and radiostack 4.20 and it wasn't any problem. Now I have upgraded to the good old xda rom from Jeff's kitchen and new radio stack from O2. I suggest you do the same and it will problably work better.
Good luck.
Cheers
Vic
I would wait a day before trying anything else, the phone is obviously unlocked to both 900 and 1800 mhz networks. I have had experience with Vodafone and T Mobile and Virgin recently where no calls could be placed for many hours, next day everything was normal, some kind of network problem. Have you tried the sms using the Voda sim, also what message does a caller get when trying to call you if you have the Voda sim inserted.
One more thing, I think it says somewhere that if you upgrade the radio stack to 4.21 then the unlock no longer works, so it would be better to get this solved before you upgrade the stack.
Thanks for your suggestions guys. But the Voda SIM works fine in my other phones and I have just tried it again in the XDA and same thing happens. Unable To Place Call. So it's not the network.
When I try to dial in to the Voda SIM on XDA I just hear a long tone...dead. It is a very early XDA. Don't know if that makes a difference.
Any help gratefully received as running out of ideas. Is there a manufacturer that may be able to help? But then they probably know less than you. I doubt if O2 will want to!
Many thanks again
Dave
Oh and Cruisin-Thru
SMS does work both ways...just the voice calls that don't. Any clues?
Thanks v much
dave :?
Have you tried manually setting the network under settings/phone/network, try choosing that and see what happens.
I have yes.
It's detecting Vodafone network fine. Just no calls. It's almost as if there's a call bar on though Voda tell me there isn't and it works in all other handsets.
Thanks anyway
Dave
One other thing, is that a very old sim card? Have you tried another voda sim in the xda, I remember having strange problems with some phones with the earlier sim cards, dont know the difference between them though.
Hi there, thanks. It doesn't work on any Vodafone SIMS. But all other networks. Vodafone say they don't know anything about the XDA and it must be a hardware fault..
Could it be that it is not unlocked "properly"? Should I run manipulator again? Think may have to give up on this one.
Thanks Dave

Is there way to have signal in EU with T-Mobile Radio ?

Hi everybody,
i just do some updates to my XDA ...
first i do the 4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US rom... end all ok.
after i do the T-Mobile RU 6.24.00 and i never take the GSM service (i live in Italy)
after i do the AT&t A 20.10 and i never take the GSM service also
last i return at O2 4.21 that i hate because every time that i lost the GSM service, he never come back until reset...
Is there some way to take a european GSM service with some T-Mobile os AT&T radio stack please ?
Thanks all
Denis
did you switch to the 800 band? if its set to 1900 (for the us) you won't get a signal. you should get coverage on the 800 frequency.
This is a well known problem among many users. I have been "fighting" against this since some weeks. I almost tried everything. Even when I tried a T-mobile radio stack together with a T-Mobile SIM-Card (Austria) it did not work properly. After some hours it loses the signal and a soft reset is required. I never had any errors during installation of ROMs or radio stacks.
I am wondering if it would make sense to bring it in for service.
My last hope is an update of the radio stack (maybe together with the WM2003 update).
At the end of the day I can say that the XDA is not the thing I need. Maybe the XDA2 is better.
Exactly for this reason i want to change my XDA with XDA II... but in Italy is only some XDA II buyed from Germany... well have german language os.
Anyware... if somebody now how to make funntional the T-Mobile radio stack in europe ... please let me know.
Thanks all
Denis
It appears that the best thing going right now for you European users is the latest Qtek 1010 Radio Stack Upgrade.
It can be found at:
http://www.carrierdevices.com.au/downloads/asiapacific.htm
Download Radio Upgrade File : RSUv1.15_(GPRS_T32500_ENG).exe
BTW read the WARNING
Also from the looks of the site this RS might be pretty close to the one thats being used in the XDAII....?
HTH
How do you know that this is the best RSU for Europe ?
Any personal experience ?
Romania (yes ... it's Europe)
Here I'm using a T-Mobile US phone with 6.24.00 with no problems, including GPRS.
I've also a custom built 4.00.21 (and I can't wait for the 4.01.00  )
So it should work without problems on the 900 band. The 1900 is no use and also you cannot get to the 1800 since hardware defaults.

Latest (I think) ROM for the Qtek 1020 (Wallaby)

I noticed that the ROM version on my new Qtek 1020 was 4.02.04 which seems to be higher than anything else on the xda-developers FTP so it could perhaps be useful to those wanting to update it on their Wallaby variants? I will say use at your own risk though because I haven't tested it on any other Wallaby device so I don't know how it'll work. I've zipped it up and put it on the FTP site in the Uploads/Qtek1020ROM directory, just extract the zip and use XDAtools to flash (I recomend using the SD card flash method rather than a direct USB flash).
Regards,
Neil.
From where did you get this ROM?
It´s really the "newest" ROM on the market. But it doesn´t include the wmodem application... :-(
Thx for Uploading.......
Stefan
Hi Stefan,
This ROM came pre-installed on my Qtek 1020 when I received it from Microdirect (UK seller). It's SIM unlocked by default but my 1020 only sees Vodafone and O2 networks in the UK. I think that might be a radio stack or hardware issue though.
Regards,
Neil.
new rom - kewl, but what RSU do you have?
Neilius - thanks for the ROM. which version of the radio stack was installed on your phone with this ROM? and, finally, do you have the PW10A or PW10B version of the Wallaby?
Here's all the info in my Device Information readout:
ROM version: 4.02.04 ENG
ROM date: 8/24/05
Radio version A.33.02
Protocal version: 1.3.3
Regards,
Neil.
Looking at the profile icons on the left, he's got the PW10B which if you got it in the UK, whoever sold you it is selling American imports!!
That would explain why you can't see Orange or T-Mobile as American phones are 900/1900 instead of 900/1800 in Europe. 900, 1800 and 1900 being the frequencies used. Orange and T-Mobile are on 1800 in UK, O2 and Vodafone on 900.
Yeah this is weird: the software actually says PW10B1 under the Identity tab of Device Information whilst the physical label on the back of the thing tells me its a PW10A1! Here's the product page from the seller:
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=11864&GroupID=0
Rgds,
Neil.
sounds like a bit of creative advertisment to me
all it means is that you won't be able to use orange or t-mobile networks (which will include virgin) in the uk, and if you go to europe, you'll only roam on 900Mhz based networks.
The good news is, if you go to the states, the phone will work perfectly
EDIT: Looking deeper at the advert, it does say ...
"Note: Only compatible with phones working on 800 or 1900 GSM"
Although I think they mean 900 or 1900!!
Still doesn't explain the sticker on the back!
Thanks for the heads up, this is a little strange but it seems they just got a load in really cheap or something.

Just out of pure curiosity I checked my other half's XDA (she tol me she got it when they first came out!) and it's exactly the same - PW10A1 on the sticker, but PW10B1 according to the software!
Oh you're not the only one to be caught out it would seem!!

The model number shown in the Windows is fixed in the ROM. Therefor the one and only possibility to check if it is a PW10A or PW10B is looking at the rear sticker...
Stefan
Well has anyone tried it? is it any good? and will it stop my xda from deleteing my sd card?
I'm using it (as it came installed on my Wallaby anyway) and everything seems to work well.
Regards,
Neil.
Will give it a try then and see how it goes cheers for the reply get really anoyed when the sd card gets blanked hope your version fixes that problem.
Good luck with it! As far as I know it's completely unbranded and seems as 'original' as possible - no Phone company customisations etc. Also, you can't reflash via USB once you install this ROM, only SD card flashing will work. As I say, I've had no problems with it, everything seems to run well, I can use GPRS fine (after setting it up with the correct login information from the Vodafone website). Having MSN Messenger on the devicie is proving to be very useful indeed when I'm out and about!

Neil.

HTC Hermes (TYTN) on Rogers?

Hi all, first post here. Great board BTW.
I took the plunge and picked up a used TYTN about a week ago. Nothing but headaches since Primarily, it has focussed around the "No GSM" error. I've read through the wiki. I downgraded to the 1.04 Bootloader, and applied the fix. Unfortunately, it appears to be temporary; the No GSM seems to come back. I have only been able to place 2 phone calls sucessfully in the last four days, and no text messages. Anyhow, before I run through all the problems and what I have done, perhaps someone who has an HTC TYTN working smoothly on the Rogers Network in Canada could post or PM me with their firmware versions (ROM, ExtROM, Radio, Bootloader, etc). If the same is available for d/l I will flash mine to the same and see if that does the trick...
Thanks for your assistance!
MM
At this moment what radio are you using?

I puchased an almost new HTC TyTN from Mad Monkey Boy about six months ago. It was running the factory stock ROM at the time. I SuperCID'd the device, then installed the South African 1.35 ROM (the complete ROM, yeah I know, it ups the bootloader version, no prob for me as I'd rather have a stable device than "hack" it). I just recently installed the AKU 3.3 WWE test ROM. The only thing I have had to do to make it work with Rogers is to create the GPRS connection (User: wapuser1, Password: wap, APN: internet.com, or vpn.com if you pay the extra $10 a month for a public IP address).
The initial ROM was very slow and very buggy. The 1.35 ROM speeded the device up a bit and much more stable, but still problems with BT A2DP and WMP losing its metadata. The new AKU 3.3 test ROM has been working very well for me, still problems with BT A2DP but no other issues to speak of yet and even faster than its predecessors.

Hi John & Phamoui,
thanks for the quick replies. Pham - I've dropped it off back at the shop where I got it so i'm not 100% sure now. I think the "No GSM" fix put it back to a 1.16 series. They uppped it with the "latest" shipped ROM. I think this was probably the one at the top of the list of available ones here. 1.35 or 1.35 series radio. Sorry for the Lack of detail in this post - I don't have the unit here at the moment.
John - thanks for the info. that should give me a stable starting point.

I've never had any problems with my TyTN on Rogers.
Currently I'm on the SA 1.35 ROM and 1.27 Radio.
I'm still reading up on the new AKU 3.3 before I decide to install it. I've still got to decide on which one to install or wait for the non-TEST HTC version.
Hi, I live in Austin but I have a Rogers SIM card for my Vancouver # (I had a job there temporarily in September/October).
Can you give me the settings for Rogers GPRS and MMS for TyTN (I have the 8525 but I am running the HTC 2.05 ROM).
Thanks!!!

James,
The GPRS/UMTS settings are as follows:
Access point name: internet.com OR vpn.com (depending on your level of data service)
User name: wapuser1
Password: wap
Domain: <leave blank>
I don't know what the MMS settings are as I don't use MMS.

Hi again,
After significant efforts by the fellows at SN Traders (good shop by the way), I have exchanged and gone with a new Cingular 8525 (Hermes 100). I have installed the WM6 XDA Live 0.20 ROM available here and it is running great so far.
So my latest Rogers/Tytn question: Has anyone been able to get the software for the Rogers pushmail? I spoke with a tech, who provided me with a couple links. I tried them, but no link to d/l the software. He advised that he thinks it is because my device is not locked to Rogers and running their software. He states that they do not have access to the CAB files directly as they come from some third party (I've forgotted but something like Verio...) Anyhow, anyone have success in obtaining/installing the software and getting Rogers push email working?
Thanks,
MM

bad reception on dutch T-mobile network - need to upgrade?

There are a lot of dutch P3300 or MDAC3 users that seem to have problems with the reception. I myself have this problem as well and even whenh I have all bars for reception on my MDA get the voicemail when I call myself.
If I then call "Outside" for examply my voicemail, the problem is solved and the phone rings when I call it. It seems some kind of weird sleep mode ???
Are there any dutch mobile phone users that had the same problems and fixed it by upgrading their rom?? If so, which ROM did you install?
Almost all T-Mobile users in Holland have this problem. The problem is known to both HTC and T-Mobile, and they are apparently working to find a solution.
Some people have even gotten temporary replacement phones (such as a Vario) until the problem is solved.
OK, so it is the T-mobile network that causes the problem.
This means that if I would go to Vodaphone or KPN the problem would be solved?
As I understand it, yes.
I have a regular P3300 on Telfort/KPN and don't seem to have reception problems.
OK,
I know enough.... I will cancel my subscription with T-Mobile and will go to KPN
hmmm. ok. Why post it here when this problem has broadly been discussed on the tweakers.net forum?
anyway, you know that there is no solution for the T-Mobile network.

Yes there is..... KPN in this case
I have already aclled t-mobile to cancel my subscription and have opened a subscription on KPN network
I have unlocked my MDA and will install a different ROM and run it on this network
I guess it is too late, but are you using the T-Mobile MDA Compact III?
I am using T-Mobile (Netherlands) with the HTC P3300 English version and I am getting better reception than ever did with my last phone & carrier.
I've even had great reception in the middle of Hornbach
Maybe it has something to do with the actual phone and not the provider
Bad reception
I have the same problem with the MDA compact 3 in combination with T-Mobile. I understand that you changed from the dutch version to the english version. Can you explain me how to do that.
Thanks in advance

I unlocked my MDA via IMEI.co.uk and afterward I first installed the official Dopod Rom followed by the Powermap ROM. Since then I don't have any problems.
I figure that this is because both the roms use a different (higher) radio rom version then the T-mobile ROM
same problem
