backup my original rom !? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

hi all,
I have read carrefully and used the search button but no one is talking about making a backup rom of its original one.
before to install a new one I prefere to have the possiblity to roll back.
if you know how to do it ...
thanx a lot
a new newbee user
V1605 vodafone sfr (qtek 9600)
ROM 1.23.163.3
date de ROM 06/18/06
version de radio 1.06.00.00
version de proto 32.27.7010.01w

Use SPB Backup!

SPB Backup will NOT back up the ROM.
I also want to back up my original ROM so that I can roll back. This is necessary if you ever have to send you PocketPC back to the manufacturer any kind of reasons.

There is a way to dump ROM (see WiKi), but no a way to flash the dump back. So, the only "backup" currently is an official ROM update. There are a few in the WiKi as well.

Thanks for your input Lurker0.
What can you do with a dump ROM ? I mean can I do something with it ?
I have the WM5 emulator on my PC, can I dump my TyTN ROM and put it on my PC so that the PocketPC emulator behaves exactly like my HTC TyTN ?

Backup original rom before upgrading

Hi to all,
I just noticed that a new rom for jasjar has been released.
I've a Vodafone 1640 and it is from my company.
I'd like to test the new rom on that, but I'd like to know if there is a way to restore the original vodafone rom, in case they want the pda back.
Do you know if thereis any problem to upgrate the V1640 rom with the latest downloadable from Imate ?

Backup original ROM (SPL 2.09)

Hi,
sorry if this question was asked but I could not find previous posts.
I would like to try newer ROMs on my Qtek S200, but before I'd like to backup the current, original, ROM (SPL 2.09.0000, Italian OS), just in case.
However, wizBackup (mtty 1.42) refuses to dump the ROM since the phone is not CID unlocked (the error is "You didn't get the proper security level to download a specific image"). AFAIK the only way to CID-unlock the prophet with SPL 2.xx it is to use the downgrade procedure explained elsewhere. However, in this way I would loose the original ROM before I could backup it!
Is there some way to dump the original ROM before downgrading to unlock the device?
ok, I'll ask an easier question, then
anyone has dumped (or knows from where to download) localised Qtek s200 ROMs (especially Italian)? I can find no download area at www.qtekcorp.com
Two people lookin'... indeed
I'm still having - after 3 months - the same two problems.
Has someone sorted them out ?
Thanks and excuse my bump
looking for the same thing.
I'll end up unlocking and upgrading my S200 without a backup of the original ROM. I doubt Qtek will release any upgrades since the device is quite old now.
It's a shame they did not even release the original rom for download.
So too bad, I'll take the risk and unlock the phone. I'm confident that the imate Italian ROM, though not very new, will work better than the one I have now.
My S200 is 6 months "old", and for the very first three months, it hasn't any support data on pocketdevice site because "too new".
Now is it obsolete and nobody will release anything for such brick ???
What a kind of policy is it ?
Thank you, but I think this is a dead-end policy for QTEK
Bye
Qtek S200 Original .Cab files?
Does anyone have access to the original .cab configuration files that came under the 2.09 Rom Ver. ?????
Trying to remove the Batt. & Comm Manger icon from the base of the screen.
Under the 2.09 version both icons were removed when the unit 1st configures its self and places a batt. icon on the top tool bar.
Not looking to install any additional program that monitors all of these items just want the original config .cabs that perform all of these task.
Please post link or notify via private msg, Thanks
read the wiki
the official and original 2.09 files are on the ftp server....

searching for Proximus ROM for Hermes

Hi All,
I wonder if somebody knows where I can find a rom of Proximus in Belgium.
Hi,
I'm from Belgium also ... why would you like to have that rom? Just install the latest ROM version here available ... I think that's the best ROM you can have ...
Well, I'm also looking for that rom and more specifically for the extrom.
Proximus added some special items in that extrom which I would like to have :
The mobile TV player (and I guess you also need the certificates), a custom version of MMS composer and a cab file which sets all connection settings, etc.
So if anybody has that rom (or ExtRom), please post it here.
Regards,
Bendalf
UP!!
Anybody can HELP with that?
Up I'm really interested in that too...
In fact I want to try upgrade to WM6 but I also want to be able to put the phone back to it's original state.
I don't know if it's really possible cause I have to update all software parts...
The reason is for warranty...
Guys,
Don't know exactly what part of the ext rom you're referring to? I bought a regular Dutch TyTn and have been flashing and reflashing and reflashing again From WM5 to 6 and back again, changing SPL in between and even started a little cooking of my own.
Most of the cooked roms work (very) well, but if you really want to make sure, you need to dump your original rom first before you flash a new one. (read the wiki and all the threads you can find first)
Anyway, I hope you have as much fun as me discovering how to customize your hermes and make it do what you want, how you want it and more important, make it do what you want it to do.
Grtz.
Hi aeroke,
Thank for your answer.
In fact, I'm just waiting to be sure that I can if needed (ie: hardware problem that need warranty) I can restore the phone to the exact original state to avoid any warranty problem.
So tell me if I'm wrong but full original state is:
- original IPL
- original SPL
- original radio rom
- original rom
- original extended rom
For now, I try to find each "original pieces" before upgrading
- for extended rom: I unhide it and simply copy/paste content of "Extended_rom" folder to my computer. Is it the right way ?
- for rom: I find a tutorial on the wiki and I'll follow it this evening, I hope I can do that
- for radio rom, IPL, SPL: for now, I don't know if it's possible to get (by dumping or downloading) the original ones and restore them after
I write all the informations I found in my phone for the original versions, here there are:
HERM200
IPL-1.00
HERM200
SPL-1.04
version ROM: 1.18.256.2
Date ROM: 07/2/06
version Radio: 1.03.03.10
version de Protocole: 32.34.7010.01H
version ROM Extended: 1.18.256.9643
So, as soon I'll be sure that I can roll back to the original state, I'll upgrade to the WM6 schaps version by following the vanx guide.
I found a guide for backing up and restore the TyTN by dumping the ROM just here. But I never found any guide to restore SPL, radio ROM, IPL...
I'll be happy to have any informations about that.
Thank you in advance
Don't worry about the warranty, i bricked my Hermes once (only after that i found out how to do it right ) and it was repaired with no extra costs. So i wouldn't worry to much about it.
Just go ahead and flash that thingy. Btw, the Black Satin (JJ) together with radio 1.47.00.10 works perfectly with Proximus.
Thanks for your response, I'll look about Black Satin.
Just another question, is there any incompatibility with any WM6 and Extended_Rom software provided by Proximus ?
I haven't used any software from Proximus untill now, bought my Hermes with standard WM5 and flipped in my Proximus SIM card. The software you find here on the forums do everything that you can imagine, so there is really no need for special proximus software i guess.
As far as I can tell, the IPLdoesn't change normally, but the SPL does change. Anyway no worries as you can restore your original SPL (I still have the 1.04 somewhere)
The radio rom can always be flashed back with the original duth rom you find here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
This rom also reflashes your IPL and SPL back.
As far as compatibility between the WM6 roms and Proximus soft goes, I don't know, but I can't imagne you need more/other soft than you find available right here.
EDIT: This is only my personal opinion, but I think I tried about al the WM6 roms and find the one from Schaps the most stable one, perhaps not the most graphicaly exciting one, but the most stable one.
Grtz
Settings Proximus
Hi, I'm also on Proximus here in Belgium. Has anyone found an Ext_rom yet from this provider? Or maybe any ideas when they will launch their wm6 version?
I haven't got the settings for proximus. Any help?
Tnx in advance
Hi,
I have one Hermes from their "Proximus Collection" so I have a Proximus Ext ROM on it. I can do a Backup of it and upload it to the xda wiki. (I'll do that this evening if I can).
I don't know if Proximus will provide an upgrade to WM6...
Thanks Genyam for your help.
Can you tell us the rom version you have ?

Would that work with WM6?
I don't know if it works with WM6 but as this is only a set of CAB files, I suppose that they are compatible.
I've already created and uploaded to xda ftp a dump of my ROM.
My infos:
ROM: 1.18.256.2
Date ROM: 07/2/06
Radio: 1.03.03.10
Protocol: 32.34.7010.01H
Extended ROM: 1.18.256.9643
The CID for the Proximus Hermes: QTEK_203
OK thnx, grabbin it right now. Is it French only?
The dump that is already uploaded is for ROM, not Ext_ROM, I'll put my Ext_ROM this evening.
I suppose that it's not french only cause when I hard reset my Hermes it's in Dutch.
yeah thnx i noticed. Np, i'll grab it tonight then.
The Extended Rom is added to this wiki page: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtendedRoms
This is the first of the page

the wiki is a good source of information
I am also thinking about trying out one of the WM6 ROMs but would like the option of downgrading to my UK T-Mobile ROM (1.21.110.3) if I need to for any reason. I've had a look through the wiki info and found a page that contains a dump of my current 1.21.110.3 ROM but it states:
Dumped or Modified Roms Available For Your Hermes
NOTE: It is NOT POSSIBLE to flash or replace the ROM on your device with one of these.
Click to collapse
So is there anyway to downgrade back to 1.21.110.3 ROM if it's not possible to flash or replace my Vario II using the dump?
If I was to follow this reconstruction guide does that mean I'll be able to flash my device with my original ROM that I dumped from my Vario II?

English Rom and Backup

Hello,
I have a HTP P3600 and the Rom is in Portuguese with GPS working.
Is it possible to convert Rom in Portuguese to a English Rom (specially because Portuguese Rom don't allow me to use Characters Recoginition Input Method).
I also would like to know, if anyone knows how can i backup the information in My phone (Firmware, Software, Data, etc).
Thx everyone
The ROM is your OS. Like on a normal PC - if you change the OS you can put a different language on it. Best thig is you probably have WM5 portuguese ROM and you can put English WM6 ROM instead. - This gives you an update at the same time!
This is the firmware! If you have the HTC WM5 Portuguese ROM - no need to back up, you can download and reflash the original ROM - have a look here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_Upgrades
it also shows you most of the WM6 ENG ROMS too - but have a good look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=359 to find the ROM best suited to your need. (You're gonna need a lot of time - there's a lot of reading to do!)
Your software should be re-installable if not already in the ROM - see a post called " a post for all the cabs " - there's plenty there!
You data should be backed up using Activesync and your PC. This should let you put WM6 ENG, you software and also your data back on your lovely Trinity if you flash a WM6 ROM.
Now go get readin'
