Accessing LAN using Wizard - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Guys, I've looked around quite a bit on the forums and can't seem to find anything on connecting the Wizard via LAN and enabling Print / File Sharing.
My Setup...
1) Desktop computer physically connected to Linksys WRT54G Wi-Fi Router. (IP Add: 192.168.1.10)
2) Wizard connects to Wi-Fi Router (IP Add: 192.168.1.11)
3) Enabled File and Print Sharing on desktop LAN Connection (Ethernet Adapter)
4) Use Network Setup Wizard ---> computer connects to Gateway Router ---> Workgroup name : mshome
5) Selected a folder for File Sharing
6) Resco Explorer shows the name of the desktop but cannot connect to it.
Hope somehere can help.
Also how do I go about doing video steaming using VLC on the LAN. I'm able to do it if I use the WAN IP but not the LAN IP

Guys.... really need some help here....

To my knowledge there is no native printing setup in Windows Mobile 5 so there isn't an option to setup printing through your desktop as you would from computer to computer. There may be something third party to help fill this void, but i don't know anything off hand. Why would you need to print from the Wizard anyways though?

how about, something that enables you to access (mp3) files from a wLAN-connected external hard drive? (mp3 wifi streaming )

oh BTW frazell is right there is no native print support on the WM5 OS. try third party programs. i think i have seen some... but you can only print simple files like word/excel documents and pictures (i think)

Yes I know Native Print Sharing is not available.... but I'm looking for File Sharing.
I can only see the name of my desktop in Resco, but I cant access any of the shared folders on it.
Also is it possible to have file sharing enabled on the wizard without the use of activesync? through my wireless network itself?

it is possible, read here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284231

What about Network Browser (PPC 2003/WM5) 1.3
? I haven't used it myself but it looks interesting.

You can also use PocketLAN (http://www.z2software.com/). It works perfectly on the Wizard, and it even seemlessly integrates into File Manager .

accessing LAN from PPC with activesync

Hallo,
I've searched for a long time in the forum and in Internet but I was not able to find how to access a shared folder on my  LAN. It seems I have to use pass-through connections but I'm not able to make it work. Every time I use pocket file explorer to open a shared folder (writing the complete UNC) I receive the message "the network path was not found" and then "network resource cannot be found .....".
My LAN is a 192.168.1.X network and I've seen that IP assigned to the PPC is 192.168.55.101
Thank for every help.
Rudy
I'm not sure.
But have you tried localhost????
HTH
Stefan
I've tried from pocket file explorer both \\localhost and \\127.0.0.1 but I've received always the same messages.
rudy
Tryed Pocket LAN yet?
It works
I have been trying to do this for months and pocket Lan works perfectly
There is a freeware network utility, named vxUtil.
Maybe this tool help you to solve the problem.
Utilities include:
DNS Audit
DNS Lookup
Finger
Get HTML
Info
IP Subnet Calculator
Password Generator
Ping
Ping Sweep
Port Scanner
Quote
Time Service
Trace Route
Wake On LAN
Whois
vxUtil (Personal) operates on all Windows CE-based Handheld, Handheld Pro, Palm-size and Pocket PCs and requires Windows CE 2.0 (or later).
http://www.cam.com/vxutil_pers.html
I've truid both pocket lan and vxUtil with no results. I can't ping the laptop. I think I could never ping it if the network segment of PPC and laptop are different. Laptop ip now is 10.0.0.8 and PPC always 192.168.55.101. Perhaps I should enabled a proxy on the PPC to route the ping.
rudy
do you have a personal firewall installed on laptop? try to disable and check
I have no firewall installed or active.
I was successfull in accessing the LAN using the software "pocket LAN CE", but this is obvious thus it installs a server software that stays resident in the tray bar of the deskop PC.
There must be a solution to access the LAN using only active sync!
As far as I know that's not possible without a LAN card.
The passthrough which is available via activesync works only for internet connections.
I might be wrong. Keep looking. Have done it for a long time an gave it up.
If you find a solution feel free to share at this forum.

How about LAN over Bluetooth?
LAN over bluetooth
And how do we accomplish this with the XDA II while the XDA II has no profile for LAN over bluetooth.
Please share the info you've.
Because this is interesting to me too!
For me too I'm also trying bluetooth over XDA but aint working yet
:?
I have installed bluetoothGPS.zip file (found in this forum) and then I installed the Bluesoleil Bluetooth Software for the PC (evaluation version). I could get an IP for the PPC and see the LAN but Internet wasn't working. Anyway having the two Bluetooth Stacks at the same time on the PPC is not a good alternative...
So please:
-MS give us some more Bluetooth Profiles, cm on, you can doit!
- Tobias and Pocket Bluetooth Tools: Please finish the LAN profile, I already donated you
Cheers
Make sure that a "guest" account is enable on your server, and try protocals other than tcp/ip. Ipx/Spx is fair. I suppose I should ask first if the activesinc laptop is able to browse the target folder? If it can, then try mapping the share as a network drive on the laptop, and see if you can nav to it using activesinc??? I'm a newbie, and don't even have my MDA I yet (in about 2 hours, I will). I will definantly be trying lots of unorthodox crap, so I'll let you know if I get it to work! Good luck.

Access network share via WiFi

I had a JasJar and before it PDA2k and with both I could not mount network shares on my local home network. I write the address in file explorer in the format \\10.0.0.23\share where the share share does not even have a password and is share to everybody and the phone can not recognize the share.
It does see other devices on the local netword for example it can browse the Internet and access my routers web based admin but not the share.
Other computers on my home network can access the share.\
I heard there are programs that help in doing this, but is there no direct or free way to do this?
Try using Resco File Explorer in which you will be able to map shared network folders and then you can access them from File Explorer directly, it even support possword protected shared items.
Im using the standard file explorer, it works fine. I start by typing \\P4 which eventually shows my shares, and then I can navigate as I want.
Cheers

still can not connect to share
Nasdaq, which version of windows do do you have the share on. Are there any special settings?
It gives me "network path was not found" always then "Network resource can not be found or you do not have the permission to access the network".
The share has no password, on windows it just logs me in without any further input.
I am using the openpath in the file explorer.
May be you need to check once again about IP Addresses and Default Gateway settings, which is not allowing you to connect with your LAN.
--Universal can't connect to Windows Server 2003--
Cant map to a Windows 2003 Server share? Is it also a Domain Controller? Check the server for
start / programs / administraton tools / Domain Controller Security Policy
Then check Local Policies / Security Options :
Microsoft Network Server: Digitally sign communications (always)
change to disabled
that will stop your universal from accessing a share normal windows machines can access.,.
Access shares problem is on Windows XP
This problem is on WindowsXP share not on windows server.
Also the imate can access the Internet and even the administration of the router, so I gues it has full TCP/IP abililty.
Are there any workgroup settings that I need to do?
Sorry for not getting back earlier, my share is on an XP sp1 box.
What I would REALLY like to do is browse my Exec over wifi from my PC. :?
Cheers
Nasdaq
Anyone got any other advice on this one?
Can't access my network shares with //192.168.0.1/ etc either?
Thanks
M.
I can't access shares by using the IP, I have to use the name of the machine: \\azhad instead of \\10.168.2.158

Hi Guys,
what is this sharing stuff u r talking about?
Please excuse me for this newbee question but i want to know about what sort of sharing etc can i do with my Exec and Laptop, like exploring files on laptop from Exec or other way around?
My laptop has Windows XP sp2 and i use wireless router to share my broadband
many thnx......
Jatt
Try this up
I had the same problem accessing network shares on my Universal...
I was also typing IP address in Resco Explorer and it was not working.
But I could make it work using the computer name. I have no idea why it work whil with basic ip address it couldn't, but at least I am able to browse my computer folder and play video files.
So try using "\\computername\share" to see if it's working.
forrest.
I tried
I tried doing that, using the computer name. It takes more time to tell me that it can not access the server.
I think that to resolve the name of the computer it needs a wins server, is that correct?
Could it also be in your network settings if you set your network as internet or connects to work?
to Jatt
Jatt theoretically you should be able to create a network share on any computer on your network and be able to access it on your phone. This is really handy since you would not need to activesync to exchange files.
But note that for JasJar/Exec or any WM5 device you can not sync over the network just share files.
To ehabh
Thanks for trying to help me out but can u tell me how do i create a network share on my computer? please
Thanks again
Same problem
I've got the same problem. I can connect to the internet through my router but for the life of me I can't connect to the shared on my PC (XP SP2). I know it's not a problem with my EXEC because I can connect to my PC at work. I can see my PC in the device list but not connect to it.
The first time I tried to connect using Resco Explorer 05 I managed to ge the screen asking for log-on details, but never got any further as it said my passwork was incorrect. Since then I've never managed to get the log-on screen back only an error say the network resource was unavailable.
I've ran the XP network set-up wizard more times than I can count, changed my PC settings manually but still had no luck. Has no one figured out what we're doing wrong?
I didn't really understand the machine name issue as I don't have any WINS or DNS server at home... But for me it worked...
Anyway you should try to temporarily disable your personnal firewall (On the computer you're trying to access) just to see if it is not blocking network traffic for the windows sharing.
If it is the problem, then you have to configure your firwall to stop blocking this traffic...
Sorry, but it's all I know...
Forrest.

I have tried accessing my networked PCs and it works if you use Resco Explorer. Couldn't get it to work with the standad File Explorer.
There is almost nothing you can do with two WiFi phones.
You can connect them with ad-hoc network but Windows Mobile does not have the server components for file sharing.
I use Total commander to access files on my PC and even controlled it with remote desktop.
I had no problem accessing shared files on network with the built in explorer but it worked a lot slower then TC. Some kind of delay in the protocol or something.

Wow thats a lot of questions!
Ok, in order:
1) Just because you see a WiFi signal does not mean you can connect to its source!
It could be another device (mobile / laptop / PC) that does not allow you to connect to it.
The network could be secure so you need a key.
The network could show as "unsecure" but use MAC (thats hardware address) filter so only authorized devices can connect to it.
2) If you managed to establish a connection, it does not mean you can access anything!
To transfer files from PC to Mobile using total commander you need the HD/partition/folder where the files reside to be shared and have the rights to access that share. (On windows PC you can right click a disk or folder and select 'file sharing'). Than you just access a network folder. In total commander for example, you click on the '\\' (top in the file list) then 'LAN', then enter a network path and password if needed.
To serf the internet the network you are connected to must be connected to the internet and allow computers on it access. You may need to manually enter gateway or proxy settings for that network.
3) I did not see any WiFi related tool in the link you provided. In any case it all depends on what software is on the device you are trying to connect to. If there is a server for sharing files (like on PC running win XP) than you can transfer files or you may need a special server program for that device.
4) WiFi stands for Wireless Fidelity - that means the connection is reliable and unlike with analog radio signal which you might here distorted if the reception is not good your data will get through correctly or not at all.
5) WiMax does not work on the same frequency range as WiFi and it is designed for much higher data transfer rates.
You can read all about it here.

That's called theft and illegal intrusion of a computer network. People go to prison for that.
Yes it is very much possible.
Hi guys,
I am extreamly happy to say that i have been able to share files from one windows mobile to another windows mobile that too at the speed of up 450kbps.
i had been trying to do this for atleast 2.5 months with no luck(u may check the related topics, nobody had a idea, Even using xda, google, bing, yahoo, altavista found that nobody has done it before...) but yesterday i made it to work the way i wanted to.
All you need to do is create a adhoc connection(e.g P2P) and download FTP server (Yes your mobile will act as a FTP server) and FTP client.
For FTP server download mochasoft and for FTP Client download resco.
**Once you install resco 2008, go to menu-->options-->addins--> then download ftp plugging(and it will make resco to work as a ftp client)
Mobile A
Start--->settings-->connections-->add new ->name it p2p-->select the option "this is a device-to-device connection(adhoc)...once it is done, turn on wifi on Mobile B it will detect this connections, connect to it.....Now two mobiles are connected with each other via wifi(Without router).....Till this point you can find it in google.
Now to share files open mocha soft on Mobile A(It will show that it is "online" with a specific IP address(Note down this ip address), Anonymous login will be on but preferabaly create a user name (File--->settings--> Add[*give it a read/write permission]) and the password.
Then decide for yourself what exactly you wanna share with the other mobile, in this example i am going to share my SD CARD. Go to file -->settings--> other--> and in the "Login Folder:" put in "\\storage card"
Once that's done open up resco ftp on Mobile B. Go to My ftp locations-->New ftp session--Give a name to ftp session (like abcd), In the host type in the ip address address that you noted down earlier--> let the port 21-->Login:ut in the username that you created-->Password: put in the password
and Hey there you go!!!, you will have the Sd Card of Mobile A and you will be working on it as if it is in your own
....Cont...
On mobile A moccha will notify you that a user has logged on to your server. You can use all FTP commands on mochasoft.
I downloaded the 700Mb movie which was stored in my frnds mobile while we were having beer and it got downloaded at the speed of 450kbps(it started off with 350kbps and was fluctuating from 380 to 450kbps), Just before doing this i tried to copy a 10mb file using bluetooth and resco showed the speed 20kbps........
So next time when you go out to meet your frnds you can transfer all their stuff at the lightning speed via WIFI file sharing......
Good Luck!!
How to browse the internet using Wi-Fi?

Can't see computers on home network

Hi. I don't seem able to access any of my shared folders on my home network since upgrading to Win 7 on my PC and the Energy ROM on my HD2.
I've tried using Resco explorer (it says 'no computers on network') and total commander. I've also tried adding the folders using their network addresses e.g. \\Lounge-PC\My Docs(E) but it doesn't work either.
I have a desktop and two laptops all running Win 7 and they share a home network using a CISCO wireless router; all are able to share files and folders.
Any help or advice gratefully accepted.

I was expecting at least one person to have had a similar problem?
can you see them through the TCPMP open file dialog?
Try option: Map Drive
Menu>File>Network>Map Drive
after add you will see folders in : my network
Xp3RiM3nT
No, I cant see any network computers in TCPMP's open file dialogue.
Raven78uk
That is how I usually connect to my shared drives but now I get the message 'no computers on network' in Resco and Total Commander doesn't show and network PCs either.
- Make sure Wifi is connected on the HD2...
- In Resco's network folder, select new folder like usual to add a share, menu->settings, check there is ONLY the IP/mask of your wifi, not the one of the data connection. If both are there, untick automatic settings, and remove the WWAN one.
Should solve it. Otherwise if you have wifi AND data connected it will try to search for computers on WWAN, which would take days...
So you can definately connect to the ahred folders from other pc's its just connecting from the phone that is the problem?
If you go to this page in your control panel on the computer with a shared folder:
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings
check that the settings are enabled like so:
network discovery: on
file and printer sharing: on
sharing so anyone on network can read: on
128bit encryption: on
password protectged sharing: off (or on if you have a password on that pc, if its on and there is no password on that pc then you cant login and therefore cant connect to the shared folder)
Inore homegroup stuff.
after all of this is set correctly and you are sure some folder is being shared on the pc you are trying to connect to then go to tcpmp and go to File>open File and then go to \\<PC-NAME-HERE>\ ie \\Lounge-PC\ as you mentioned earlier.
tcpmp should prompt you for a un/pw if you have none for this pc just click login/connect (cant remember what the button says) and then ytou should see your folders/files?
see how you do with that and we can then try and see why you cant see them in explorer.
It's probably because of Windows 7 Home Group. It's a pain in the arse to get normal file sharing working be default..

I found this too, scanning for SMB devices returns nothing (unlike on my phone which works fine), however setting up the connection to the PC manually by clicking LAN > New and typing in the computer's network name (IP not required), username and password worked perfectly. Let me know if you need clearer instructions on that.
hi mate,
tried that also but did not work ! how did u manage ?
thx in advance
sorryyy .. plz ignore ... just tried it now with LAN again and it worked perfectly ...

EDIT: Nevermind. Thought that you were using the FTP server on the shield, not the computer.
I think there is a fundamental issue here. The Shield TV is actually hosting two networking interfaces:
- bluetooth interface used to connect to bluetooth devices (192.168.49.0/24 network)
- wired/wireless interfaces to connect to the home network for internet access
For some reason the bluetooth interface is the default interface because of which any actions of scanning, discovery, etc. lead to no result, because ES File Explorer is only looking for devices on the bluetooth interface's network.
On the other hand, manually adding the device works because the other interface is active and working.
I sent an email to EStrongs explaining this issue, but have not received any response in a week. The solution is to add a default interface selector in the ES File Explorer menu somewhere, but it has to be implemented by EStrongs.
I have a problem running an FTP on the Shield TV, ever since I stopped using wifi to connect my Shield Tv to my network. I'm not using Ethernet/homeplugs instead, and I have a problem where ES File explorer thinks that the IP address for the shield is 192.168.49.1 rather than my correct network IP Address (allocated statically) of 192.168.0.25. The shield works fine on the network, but the ES File Explorer app doesn't pick up the right IP address, and as a result appears to be unreachable when I try to connect to it over FTP (where the shield is the host)
That's strange! I remember I read the same IP with final 49.1 on mine Ethernet connection! And I still have big connectivity issues, Ethernet and 5G ! N working better, not top notch though! Did You improve yours?

this is a bit maddening. I'm wondering if there is a way of disabling the bluetooth briefly, to allow the ethernet interface to be chosen(?)
edit 12/11/15 ignoring the displayed ip (192.168.49.1), and referencing the assigned static ip appears to work...
can you explain better?Where is the static assigned ip to use for ftp connection?
Update: i've solved using another app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.theolivetree.ftpserver ...where i can choose the preferred connection (bt,wifi, ethernet ...)
