Locked, unlocked, Cingular (US) - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I now have a unlocked PDA2k and Cingular SIM. I am considering a Cingular 8525 since the price is so much better than unlocked devices. Can someone clarify the exact difference between unlocked and locked - it is just what SIMs will work right. If I go with the 8525 can I install another ROM version, maybe the worldwide, non Cingular specific ROM? Can someone comment on the major differences between the i-mate and Cingular ROM?
Thanks much!

Need some info about T-Moblie MDA II in USA

It has been a while since I have read the boards and so I am having a problem finding any information on whether or not I can purchase a MDA II and use it with my T-Mobile service in the USA. I currently have the older version of the T-Mobile Pocket PC phone and would like to upgrade to a new phone. Can anyone help me with my question about the MDA II in the USA or is there another PocketPC phone you would recommend?
I think the MDA II/XDA II only works on 900MHz which is used on European networks. I'm not sure if it works in America or if it works well in America.
Actually, T-Mobile USA does 900MHz don't they?
T-mobile in the USA use 1900.
As far as I know the MDA II is triband so it will work with T-Mobile USA
It will NOT work with cingular

Any phone that uses 1900MHz will be fine for you then.
I have an O2 Xda II bought in Singapore last Summer and I use it in NY on T-Mobile. It works great.
I have just upgraded my ROM using the latest UK patch 1.72.187 (radio 1.17.00) and it works fine.

O2 don't lock, T-mobile do. You can unlock for free, or pay £15 to tmobile (in the UK that is) after a month if you want to do it offically.

will my qtek 9100 work overseas (philippines)?

Assuming that t-mobile gives me international coverage?
I'm not sure if the 9100 is a triband or quadband phone and whether or not the GSM frequencies would be compatible
AFAIK it is quadband, but is really unlikelly that t-mo gives a phill international service at a reasonable price...a better idea is to unlock ur wizard and contract a plan there...
possibly
got mine from the us under t-mobile...
brought it back here in the philippines...
i used the lokiwiz unlocking process found in this site...
and its working great with other networks....(globe, smart...)
Make sure you sim unlock your phone. Then u can either use globe. smat or sun mobile (prepaid or plan). Goodluck in PI!

Will UK XDAII/M1000 work in US with US Tmob SIM?

Hi
I'm off to the US in a month. I've got an unlocked UK M1000 ROM 1.66.00WWE Radio 1.10.00. I've ordered a couple of T-mobile prepaid sims from the US so that my family and I can keep in touch over there without being stung by rediculous roaming charges. I gather the M1000 will work with my own sim over there but will it work if I put the US sim in it? or do I need to start changing the ROM of the phone?
(I've also got an MDA Vario early model(UK) and a couple of Siemens CL75 poppy phones which are also unlocked and should work over there with UK sims)
If there's no joy with my existing phones I'll just get a couple of cheap prepay phones when I'm over there but I'd prefer not to if I don't need to.
Many thanks
Regards
Twojags
it will work unless the network is cdma or 850MhzGsm
Many thanks Rudegar.
Kind regards

Question on unlocked Streak

Dear All,
I am planning to get a Streak (UK version) unlocked
i would like to know what is the major difference between a locked and an unlocked version?
i just know that a locked version doesnt not support other networks (e.g. O2 Streak doesnt allow Vodafone and etc sim cards to work)
other than this, are there any other main differences?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
i am currently in Hong Kong, there is a Streak offer (O2 unlocked version) and i would like to get it this week or so...
i am just afraid that the "3G/Data/HSPA" etc will not work... so i would like to know the locked/unlocked differences
i hope everyone could help me out and welcome me to the Dell Streak family
thanks all
basically no.
that is the major difference.
unlocked: use on any network
sim only from o2/cpw locked to o2
unlocked: minus any bloatware that o2 may put on their version.

Thanks for answering my question too - I want to use the Dell Streak satnav in Spain with a local SIM (unless O2 offers a sweet deal on roaming rates with its Telefonica parent?? But I rather doubt it).
no guarantees on 3g unless hong kong uses the same 3g band.
