PhoneControl.net - Networking

(Admins, if this is in wrong section please move it. Sorry.)
Has anybody used this (Windows) program with their Windows Mobile 5 device?
see http://zoran-horvat.de/PhoCoWeb2/content.aspx?id=what
It is a program to allow control of your mobile from a Windows XP PC including making and receiving calls, access to address book and text messages. In the latest version 1.7.6 it claims full compatibility with my HTC Prophet device over Bluetooth, but even though I am using a Belkin F8T013 USB bluetooth dongle which uses the recommended Broadcom/Widcomm 4 stack I can't get my PC and phone to communicate, let alone make and receive calls. My phone is a imate JAMin, but I am using the latest PDAMobix AKU 3.2 ROM.
Does anyone have any experience of PhoneControl ? Any tips?
Do you think my problems are related to using AKU 3.2 ROM? Would I get any further using AKU 2.3?
Hope someone can advise me.
Cheers
Richard

Can't get ActiveSync to work over Bluetooth - please help.

I recently got a Bluetooth dongle for my PC but can't get my XDA-II to use any of the services !
When I select ActiveSync and the Sync with Bluetooth I get
'Cannot start communications with the desktop computer. The communications prt is not available. Another program may be using the port, or it may not be valid.
Quit any programs that may be using the port and reconnect. If the problem persists, restart your device using the instructions provided by the manufacturer.'
When I choose Bluetooth settings and select 'Bluetooth ActiveSync Setup'->Start on the XDA II I get 'Please bond with other Bluetooth device which supports serial port or ActiveSync profile as your ActiveSync partner !
The PC has the ActiveSync service enabled and I am now stuck. Please help.
Try this utility.
http://bluetooth.i-networx.de/index_e.html
Install it, do a soft reset. Delete previous BT connection and find again.
you should get an option to sync on your XDA II with the specific computer.
ActiveSync Via Bluetooth with Troy Windport
Have tried all suggestiosn including http://bluetooth.i-networx.de/index_e.html
Activesync starts to connect an then drops the connection
Have w2k, ActiveSync 3.7.1 and TRoy Windport bluetooth PCMCIA card, XDA II with Latest 6.10.50 upgrade
Only option left is to change/upgrade operating system to XP which I do not want to do.
Anybody got a better idea?
Thanks

try following this tutorial at geekzone
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=2417
try to turn off infrared communication on ppc.
try to delete all bounded devices both pc and xda.
try to search for a bt device again.
You have to follow the above mentioned procedure. After that you start to search the device with ActiveSync.
ActiveSync will start to check all the serial ports, one port before it comes to the port that is used by your BT stack, you should start ActiveSync via BT on your XDAII.
This is the only way (for me) to get that crap working. After the XDAII and the computer have found each other, future syncs via BT are no (or at least not a big) problem. If the XDAII and the computer sometimes dot not find each other, try to sync 2-3 times, it will hopefully work then. Sometimes there seems a kind of timeout error.
I don't use BT anymore 'cause it is really a hard job to get it running. Even when I managed to establish the connection, after some days the connection gets lost again and can only be repaired by re-installing the BT stack or ActiveSync - I am really tired of beta testing all the bluetooth stacks and stopped to use it until the industry established a working standard...
I try a lot of time after install Tobias application for BT, but I can not see the new dialog after pair my XDA II with PC. Someone help me!
I had the exact same experience. I have not sorted out my the BT problems yet but suffered also from the interrupted connection using the cradle until I disabled Norton anti-virus and firewall.
HELP!
No connection possible between my PC and MDA-II.
Bluetooth Devices program in Windows XP SP2 comes up with "incoming port: 17", while ActivSync seraches only ports 1 to 9.
How can I make them listen to the same port?

Thanks
as far as I know, the prophet does not support the bluetooth pan profile
http://www.clubimate.com/t-DETAILS_JAMIN.aspx
thanks for the info.
so is there no rom for the Prophet that supports the bluetooth pan profile?
or bluetooth driver updates or a another way it can be done it can be done?
i am also having problems using active sync with my bluetooth cant seem to get it right i am still reeding some of the posts here hope fully i can sort this out soon.
It is available in AKU3.2 ROMs and I use it successfully in my car PC.
PDAMobiz_Prophet_WM5AKU3.2_v3231.exe
is this the right one ?
That one and any of the 3.2 ROMs. But note that there are problems with these ROMs including the problem that the phone won't charge over USB (you have to use the main plug-in charger).
Good luck with it.
Tried one and the phone got stuck on the boot Screen just loaded the RUU_Prophet_2090724_20907106_020720_QtekWWE_Ship.exe againe and i will try the other one againe now. Hope i get this sorted out LOL with out making a brick out of my Prophet.

Hi, I checked it again last night. I am using the AKU3.3 now, and this works too. My Bluetooth adaptor is a Belkin USB model and I am using the latest Widcomm 5.xxx.xxx drivers.
I start by using the Internet Sharing program on the Prophet, select Bluetooth PAN, the correct GPRS profile (in my case Orange Internet) and connect. Then I connect the PC using Bluetooth to the Bluetooth LAN on the Prophet.
Hope you can get it to work for you, but it may be also dependent on using a suitable Bluetooth stack in Windows.
The Widcomm drivers don't seem to work with my blue tooth adapter. so i have to use BlueSolei, or the windows drivers. the other thing is i wanted my Prophet to use my home networks internet witch is exactly the opposite of what you did in the above post, what i learned is that your bluetooth drivers must support the hosting side of the connection. The Widcomm drivers do support it but i just cant get them to work with the bluetooth device i have.
it looks like i have to buy a new bluetooth adapter if i want to get it to work....
or see if i can get the Widcomm drivers to work with my adapter.
any other way i can do this ?
Hi. Could someone confirms that Bluesoleil drivers runs ok in S200? Thanks and regards.

WM5 Bluetooth stack and DialUp Networking (DUN)

I'm at my wits end with my T-Mobile MDA (aka HTC Wizard) and my new 2007 Acura RDX. The car can connect to the Internet via a Bluetooth phone to send/receive diagnostic messages to Acura, but I'm pretty sure the MS Bluetooth stack is disconnecting during the setup. I'm able to pair the HTC Wizard just fine with the car, and the handsfree functionality for sending/receiving voice calls works perfectly using the JETWare mobile Bluetooth extension on the phone. I've tried doing some basic registry tweaks in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth keys, but nothing helped. I can use my Sony Ericsson T68i phone just fine with this troublesome feature, but I really don't want to start using my old phone again. Any thoughts on what might be fubared with the DUN connectivity? I'm using the same dial strings too that work just fine on my laptop with the MDA (*99#) on T-Mobile's network. Thanks in advance for suggestions...
While I don't have specific info on your car, you may want to give a try to the
1, Widcomm BT stack (instead of the MS one)
2, AKU3 and BT PAN if your car also supports PAN and not just DUN.
Please check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282780 on the latter q.
Thanks for the reply. I've had older Pocket PC/Windows CE devices that used Widcomm, but I was under the impression that the MS Bluetooth stack was baked into the device ROM. Do I have to reflash the HTC Wizard ROM to get the Widcomm BT stack?
RE: option #2, I'm nearly certain that the car does not support PAN, but I'll dig around and see what I can find.
Thanks again.
Hmm... I just found this wiki page:
http://maemo.org/maemowiki/BluetoothDUN
which mentions Bluetooth DUN problems on the Samsung SGH-X820, which I believe is using WM5 or similar variant. At any rate, it mentions a "receive all" flag, and I'd love to know if there's a registry setting in WM5 that's related to this suggestion.

nope, just install the Widcomm BT stack, not even a hard reset is needed - see the sticky thread.
Thanks again for the prompt reply. I followed the How To here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285696
and I also used SolSie's installation guide here to fill in some gaps:
http://solsie.com/?p=82
I used the CAB file here:

Bluetooth functionality seems to working ok, but I don't see Dialup Networking as a service now on my HTC Wizard. Do I need to upgrade the AKU ROM? I'm using the summer 06 ROM update from T-Mobile USA right now. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You're right - just tested this on my Wizard. No DUN service is visible- actually, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BtConfig\Services doesn't contain any DUN service listed.
I'll tomorrow check this on my other 1.7 WM5 Widcomm-based Pocket PC's (hx4700, x51v) to see whether you can import this functionality in any way. My WM2003 iPAQ 2210 and WM2003SE PL720 lists this service; from the former (I only have this here at home in addition to my Wizard; the rest are all at work) a direct HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BtConfig\Services\ and [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Services\00001103-0000-1000-8000-00805F9B34FB] didn't work though.
From what I've read on other sporadic posts, it seems that the Windows Mobile registry has a setting for enabling a "receive all" parameter for Bluetooth that fixes DUN problems. I'm sure there's a bit of a security risk in that, but I'm willing to try anything at this point.
You mean the standard BT / IrDA receive all? It's not dangerous at all - and, for that matter, it doesn't even add much to the overall power consumption, contrary the popular belief (see my related power consumption measurements)
Thanks for the reply. I read your post(s) on power consumption--excellent stuff. I can see options for IR ("Receive all incoming connections"), but not for Bluetooth, other than the discoverable option. Is there some registry parameter? That's what I'm looking--if DUN is failing during a PPP connection because a some weird rejection command, I'd like to see if there's anything I can try out to work around that.
The "Recieve incoming beams / Recieve Incoming Connections" in the IR menu in also responsible for BT file recieves. In addition to enabling the BT discoverable option, you need this to be turned on to accept file tranfers. I'm not sure about how this is going to effect DUN, but give it a shot.
This is prolly what you might have read in one of those posts that you mentioned.
BTW, the DUN service will not be offered even with the Beam Receive option enabled.
This may mean, currently, unless someone invents a way to access DUN under Widcomm, it's impossible to use Widcomm-based WM5 PPC PE devices as external dial-up modems.
Hm...
I know this is kinda off topic of DUN, but using the Axim Widcomm stack on my 8125, I loose all sound from the speaker.... anyone else encounter this?
Yes I have this problem too, can be solved just by calling someone... but then there are other problems...
1)Memory leak after turning off Bluetooth.
2)Only solution is to leave it on, but there are other issues here, for me, so far, it is my Wizard hangs(require soft reset button) or the sound of the speakers dissappears and gets redirected to the phone speaker only... after about a days use..
Hm.... well.... suck. I wish someone released a custom ROM without the MS stack

but from the axim site, you can actually remove the MS stack..

Bluetooth Dial Up Networking

Who can help me with the following:
When I pair my Qtek 9000 to my Bluetooth enabled notebook, I want to use the Qtek 9000 as Bluetooth dialup modem.
The problem is that when I have the notebook check the available services on the Qtek, the only available service there is "Bluetooth ActiveSync Service". So unfortunately no "DUN" of "Dial Up Networking".
I tried the same with my Nokia N93 and that one actually shows a few more services than the Qtek, including DUN. A Bluetooth modem then was added to my modem list (on COM4) and the entire thing works perfectly using the Nokia.
But... I want my Universal/Qtek 9000 to be the Bluetooth modem.
How can I perform doing this? I also tried the "Wireless Modem" app as provided in Crossbow (using the 2.00.04 PV PRO), but selecting Bluetooth en pressin "Start" doesn't do anything.
Note that I am using Windows Vista and that the Bluetooth interface is the Microsoft one, as installed by default (which works with the N93).
Thanks!!
what rom are you using?
WM6 Crossbow PDAVIET 2.00.04 PV PRO.
well my Helmi UNI AKU3.5 doesn't include a DUN profile and i'm 99% sure if that one didnt your slightly newer one won't either..
If you have a flick back through the forums theres a post about it.. saying using internet connection sharing on the pda instead .. I couldn't get it to work personally and gave up. I'm currently using mine as a usb modem instead.
Sorry for the bad news dude :-(
Ok.... I'll see what I can do to get it working.
Isn't there just a workaround to add the DUN profile in some way?

i'm fairly sure there isnt, I think its in the rom itself .. or in the blue tooth stack or something incredibly complicated.. enough for the rom builds on here not to bother touching anyway

bluetooth differences between 6.1 and 6.5

quick question what are the major changes between wm6.1 and wm6.5 the reason I ask is I have a app that was wrote sometime to allow WM devices to accept most at commands via bluetooth and it worked fine when I was using my wizard with 6.1. However since upgrading to the HD2 I have been unable to get it working it will install and according to the software log it creates a comport however I get no extra port showing up on the PC and advice would be great.
Thanks,
Yonu
Different BT stacks. I know that on 6.1 my BT didn't work right, but it does on 6.5.
I'm not sure you can change it without cooking your own ROM.
well that figures
what bugs me is that it says it creates the port in the log
