changed numbers.. universal still shows the old one! - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I've recently changed my phone number, changed sim cards, and flashed the latest AKU3.2 ROM i found here.
While going through the settings, and tweaking things to my liking, i went to "Phone Options" and noticed my old number is shown on top!
how? the sim is gone, the number is gone, and the phone was hard reset before and after the ROM upgrade.. it just doesn't make sense
even when i open an incoming SMS message, the "To:" field on top shows my old number, while the message was in fact sent to the new one!
where can i update this?
the only thing that came to mind is SIM manager, and "List of own numbers"
it has 3 slots, and the 1st one has my name and my old number.. i tried erasing it, changing it, etc.. all failed.
the number just wont change
tips anyone?

anyone?

Yes u are correct that's where it's getting the number from. You will need to delete own number from SIM with SIM Managers. No idea why it fails though... Try adding new number and then try deleting old number... unless for some reason your SIM is somehow locked by provider.

i tried replacing the number, deleting it then adding the new one..
deleted it all together.
still, i click save.. then i refresh and the damn thing is still there
i wonder if it's a fault in the sim application
but i tried my other phones (mainly Nokia's) and couldn't even find the option :S

Test on other WM5 device if u can... from a friend or something.

as far as I know, if U change number via PAC code, its more less something very similar to call divert, your SIM should be active to both of numbers, try to call your old number. it was mentioned here a while ago. user writing about this wrote something that the your old no is stil with your previous operatro..... dont remember

Switching numbers

I've got an MDA Vario with T-Mobile, and when I first joined T-Mobile I was given a temporary number until my old number (then with O2) switched over to T-Mobile. This was all ages ago and went well, but when I look at received text messages, it still displays the old temporary number in the 'To' field. Although it's not a big deal (when I send messages or call the correct number displays), is there a way to change / update this? Is the old temporary number somehow written into the chip? Thanks
Well, thats because the texts were "sent" to your temporary number. It really isn't an issue or something you can change, because the text was sent to THAT number, not your real one.
I guess if it bothers you that much you could get the txts re-sent to you now you have your real number back..
No they weren't. They were sent, and are being sent to my current number, and the phone still displays the temp one that was initially issued with my new sim. No one ever knew the temp number or sent anything to it, it's a display issue.
Ah sorry I misunderstood. You could try going to Programs -> "Sim Manager" and choosing Tools -> List of own numbers
That could be the problem.
I had exactly the same issue...I spoke to TMob customer services and they said the only way to fix this is to send a new SIM coded with the ported number. They then said that this would cost £10 as there was nothing actually wrong with the old SIM. I argued the toss and they sent me a new SIM for free which fixed the problem.
check my programs, don't have a sim manager, is it standard?
Ah, it came with my O2 XDA Mini S.
I don't know how to change it without that. Most normal phones have an "own number" change option, (Sony Ericsson, Nokia) so if you have one of those hanging around try using that to change it and seeing if that helps. However, the other poster may be correct in saying its hard-coded for T-Mobile users.
Thanks guys. ran a search for sim in help, and it actually mentions sim manager, so find it weird that it's not included!! I guess I'll just have to live with it, or maybe I'll contact T-Mobile...
Resolved
Checked the manual, sim manager can be accessed by going into programs, contacts (you get the choice of conacts or sim manager). Surely enough, it can che changed from there, and texts now arrive with the correct number displayed. Thanks lozzd
No problems glad you found it.

Anyone else with caller ID problems?

Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone else might be having a similar problem with 'caller [or texter] ID'.
Most networks, as I understand it, use the international dialing code when sending out texts and calls, meaning this is usually the incoming number when you recieve a text or call.
I've obviously got people programmed into my contacts who text me but when they do, I don't get their name, I get their number - with the dialling code eg. +447750500500. When I tap to go into the threaded mode, I'll get all previous contact with this person but with them identified only as the number. However if I head to the People tab, then again to see the messages I've sent/recieved with that person, I get the same messages only under the banner of their name and not the number.
I believe calls work fine with the code programmed in on their contact profile.
Anyone know why this is being caused?
I have the same problem. Both calls and text messages.
I don't think it matters if the international code is there or not.
Really frustrating not knowing who calls.
I've had this problem first time the device was initialized (right after opening the box). It might be caused by the fact I didn't have any SIM in it at that time, I'm not sure.
After a hard reset with a SIM inserted, everything started working as it's supposed to.
Hmm, I've changed the SIM, but I can't remember if it worked wih the first SIM card.
But a hard reset deletes everything, right?
There are a few things you have to be sure of:
Do not have double contacts, if you have a number (with and without operator/country prefix) twice in your list it will not show any name.
I don't know if this applies if you have a contact on your phone memory and on your sim card. I am sure it does have this problem if you have two contacts with the same number on the memory phone.
For some reason this is logic: On an incoming call, the phones checks it's phonebook and retrieves two numbers and then it does not know what to display, is it contact one, or two?
I hope this helps you out. I did not experience any problems (yet).

Try this....
1. Edit one "test number" in your contacts and remove international codes.
Just put that "test" tel number. without int. codes... And make sure that number is not stored nder another contact. (No duplicates.)
2. Then dial from that number and see if that tel# is identified. If you have just "0xx-123456" then go to #3.
3. Go to registry and change of the Caller ID match rule. (Minus one digit.)
Example: Caller ID rule:8 (Change from 8 to 7 or 6 to 5 .. trailing digits for Call ID match. )
* HKCU\Control Panel\Phone\CalIidMatch value:7
4. Restart and test again...
5. If its OK, than test with SMS.
6. If its OK again , put back your international codes and test again.
7. If not go to no.3
Hope this helps.

4)now try to call from your house to your phone to do a check.
5)my problem was solved after this

What was happening to me before the reset was a bit different - the phone wasn't able to match anything at all - even a number called from the phonebook and stored in "recent calls" in EXACTLY the same way it's in contact, didn't match to the contact when redialed.
I think that something required for Caller ID to work gets done when the phone is first initialized, and that this step requires full access to the phone module (which the phone doesn't have without a SIM inserted and a proper PIN entered).
hi,
i encountered also that worry,
i set the HKCU\Control Panel\Phone\CalIidMatch value:9
my mobile phone number to test was stored as "06xxyyzzww"
and when i phone my diamond2 from that number
the caller id is recognized
(with showing as +336wwxxyyzz)
i tested from my home phone stored in contacts as 04wwxxyyzz
i rang my topaz its was identfied as my home,
(with showing as +334wwxxyyzz)
i am in france, + is for 00 ,our phone numbers are 10 digits long
(mobiles and "home") ,
to be joined from abroad, you have to dial +33+phone number WITHOUT the first digit "0")
so the "9" value i put in the registry
if it could help you

Hi,
just stumbled over the same problem.
The old phone (HTC P330) resolved numbers from my used format 01234-56789.
Since my contacts are a mess, I have 01234-12345, +49-123456-456, +49 (0123)-456 and so on, it would be a great pain in my ass to switch every contact to +49123-456 (which the new phone resolved).
I compared the Registry-Entry from the P3300 with the TD2 and voila: TD2 was 12, P3300 had the value 8.
I changed the TD2 to value 8, reboot and now I'm happy again, the phone is getting used to my contact list

Hi,
I'm experiencing the exactly same problem, that incomming calls or messages isn't shown by name, but only by number.
I'm all new to Windows mobile, but I tried downloading a regeditor, and experimented with different values in the CallIdMatch string. However, no succes.
I live in Denmark, where numbers look like +4512345678, where +45 is the international code. Can someone please tell me, what should be the correct value? The original values was 8.
I have further found that some contacts are recognized. What the difference is between the groups, are however unclear!
Caller ID problem, my solution
I had the same problem. But after a hard reset it seems to work just fine now. Remember to backup your downloaded programs etc before doing this.

Hi,
"8" should be the good figure for you, as in France
we have phone numbers +33987654321
and "9" is the good value for me, in:
HKCU\Control Panel\Phone\CalIidMatch value:
Edit: i remove previous "edit"
in fact all my contacts had been erased" so it was normal to have no caller ID?
ps: is your carrier sendind all the figures when you're receiving calls, i mean +4512345678
so perhaps you're encountering a bug .
you should try to backup your device, with a soft like spritebackup(special price for htc owners on their webpage) and experiment an hardreset
and restore

Hi ,
did you ever try to change the following:
RegistryEdit and Decreasing the CallIDMatch from 12 to 7 solved my Issue
See below
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone" name="CallIDMatch"
Greetings from Slovenia
Hello,
that is my first post so please do not be very critical to my english level and PPC skills .
now this is an old thread but for BULGARIA the correct registry value is "9". Here the mobil numbers are as follows "08xx 123456" (9 digits without the ZERO at the very beginning). that is why the usefull number is that (default for my TD2 was 8). Now after this fix the phone can correctly identify which number i want to dial when i am inserting it by digits, instead of selecting the exact person. i do not know am i explaining correctly but i will try to put some more detail on that. When i want to dial some particular number (for example "08xx 123456") the phone select me the correct contact no matter how i put this contact in memory. with "+3598xx 123456" or only with "08xx 123456". before that intervention the phone identifies me the correct contact only if i type the digits, exactly the same way that i have added it to the memory. So i think that this registry key does not have a universal resolution. the resolution depends on how many digits is using tha particular mobile operator.
i hope that will be helpful for someone who is happy to own an HTC and is happy with it ... like Me

number recognition

hello,
when someone calls my diamond II
it only shows the number of the caller, but not the name even though they are in my contacts how can i change this so it says who calles by name instead of number..
thanks for any reply
This sometimes happen if you have multiple entries of the same number....then phone shows only number and no name.....Is this happening for each incoming call..or just for few contacts...
for all contacts it happens, but most do have an mobile number and an home number..
can i change anything to fix it? or is it a fault on the diomand II .
Multiple numbers for same contact should not be a problem, but multiple contacts for the same number sometimes causes this....fr me it is working fine, so it should not be a TD2 bug..

all contacts have just one mobile number and one home number so i don't know where to search a solution
but thanks for your reply
Try to not use the prefix.
(+countrycode)
Should do the trick
this was discusserd once already (I think. I can recall the drop the prefix solution). Search a bit. alas, I will give you a link if I find one
Im having a similar problem. The caller id dosent work for some of my contacts, both when they phone me or when they send a SMS. Im sure they are saved in my phone and not on my sim and from what I can see there isn´t any difference from how they are saved in my phone book from the ones that the caller id works for. Its really strange and annoying. Hope someone has a solution for this problem.
Did you try just delete that contact and make it again. I know it's stupid question but ...

yes i did. I also tested to make a new contact from the sms view with the option save contact with the actual number that shows instead of the name and it still didnt work. Thanks anyway.
Hey,
I've had the same problem since day of purchase. I did the reg edit to increase the numbers the phone looks at to identify a number but it still didn't work. I've also deleted and re-created the contacts with no success.
ALL,
I had this problem. I submitted the case to HTC Europe but I did not even get a call back after a few months had passed.
Unfortunately the only way to do this is to hard reset the phone.
You will loose all your phone data (contacts etc) but the files on your memory card will be ok.
When you reset the phone, even if you have NO contacts at all on your sim card, you still have to tell the wizard on the first boot to import your SIM contacts. This, for some silly reason, is the only way to get the phone to register the phone contacts from your phonebook, even if you are just using the non-SIM contacts.
I had no numbers on my SIM card and of course I did not select the option to import my contacts. I was going to do that myself via Outlook. Once I selected not to import the contacts, not one number was recognized.
I did a Hard Rest. If you have numbers or not on your SIM does not matter. Allow the initial start-up wizard to import from the SIM. Then continue.
This solved this VERY ANNOYING issue for me. I used SPB backup first to take a copy of my phone data before the reset.

i had this problem too, solution is change registry:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\CallIDMatch:9(DWORD)
this means phone will identify number by 9 last digits - meaning its ignoring country code.
*if 9 not working for you try 10/11/12... one of these should fix.

hello
today I tried all the numbers, from 7 to 12
11 was the value that made me look some of my callerID. now I have the same problem, but not with everybody, but only some people
let's say a 50% of my contacts are shown on the screen when they are calling me/sending me an sms, but the other 50% doesn't show me the name but just the number.
today I tried with my mom's phone to call me. it didn't show the name. So i deleted her name from the contact, and added it again (from the missing call). now it's showing her name... Do I have to do it with all the phonebook?
is there something I can do to fix it? it's making me crazy
please help me..
I have, absolutely same problem, erasing the contact and creating it again, did not solve, very very strange. I've tried iterchange of numbers home>work, work>home, work> auto, home > auto, invane, some of contacts refuse to display name, compared the phones i have no same numbers for names ecc. First of all i have to mention that numbers have been migrated from Nokia 6230i via Outlook Express > Outlook > Phone , some of the numbers like Home, Bussiness Fax ecc, did not passed to Diamond 2
I've just noticed that a Hotfix was released a few days ago, which just might solve this problem.
Titled: Update for HTC Touch Diamond2 for Caller ID Display
I haven't tested it yet, so let us know if it works for anyone
try to make all contacts same format with TrineFix or similar app,
set numbers without country code, for example in israel i set 05XXXXXXXX instead of +9725XXXXXXXX, then i change CallIDMatch to 8.
this is how it works for me.
I had a problem with none of my contacts names coming up when they called me, it would only show their number. After x2 software resets and installing everything again I found the problem, when you do a software reset and you turn the phone on for the first time when it asks you to import from your sim card contacts DONT DO THIS if you sync your phone with Active Sync and outlook contacts as this is where the problem is.
If you import your contacts from your sim and you sync with outlook then your caller id's will not work.

My Phone Number

Hello
strange one here, my phone number dose not appear at the top on sim manger, i really need it to. I used exchange 2010 and activesync, so i can send text message from outlook or owa. i can see a whole thread of texts between me and some one else, but it dose not display my name next to the message i sent, it dose if i sent it via outlook but not the phone. any way i need to know how to get sim manger to pick up my number or can i manually edit it, my exchange server cant pick my phone number up. so i look at sim manger and found that the issue is prob due to sim manger not displaying it. please can some one help
many thanks
Nick
Phone number is assigned from operator. Your sim contains only IMSI code and i'ts impossible retreive from phone.
You can set your phone number using sim manager:
go to sim manager menu->tools-> list your number (menu tools is not visible without gesture from down to up). In this option you can change number

Is anyone familiar with a phone number in the format xxx?xxx?xxxx

They are coming up when I start to text someone and their name and number start to list in a "predictive" area, not sure of its real name
In this number I gave you, obviously the x's are the numbers and the ?'s DO show up between the numbers
I was thinking it was the SIM card number, but it just happened the last day or so, and I have been confused with some contact prolems, AND I am a total 'newb.'
My second question,..might this have something to do with this.
This is specifically related to the Samsung Vibrant. So if you are unfamiliar, please, feel free to ignore and move on
But with the phone, with the Samsung widget, Buddy ?, It is a square or ferris wheel type widget, I can select a contact put on it I can message or call them. BUT, Origininally I thought it was the FIRST number put on the widget if the person had more than a mobile number. But when I moved a couple of contacts mobile numbers first and I messaged them, and I got their HOME number, I knew that something waa up.
Might you know what that is?
AND might it hahve something to do with the number xxx?xxx?xxxxx or the SIM card numbers
Thanks a whole lot.
I am not as technical as a lot of you. It is greatly appreciated.
Quite honestly, I have no idea what you just said.
ETA: I think I figure out what your second question is. When you open a contact, press Menu > Mark As Default and select the number you want to be the default.
Never had/heard if this issue...personally if go to Tmobile and ask them what's up, maybe its your phone specific, maybe you somehow have another country's format, doesn't sound malicious or any thing though so I wouldn't worry too much.
On a Vibrant, using this app-thingy
i think he's saying his contacts are listed as 123?456?7890
Yeah, that's pretty much it. I think it may have something to do with SIM card format. It happened right after I sent my numbers to the SIM card yesterday
Just as it says a format for a phone number, where ?'s are placed in between
Thanks
