You can't use a mini-USB adapter. You'll actually need an adapter with the proprietary HTC plug on it. They're all over eBay for very cheap. I got mine for like $1.95, but it broke down in less than a year. You can buy HTC branded ones for a little bit more. Probably worth it, in my experience, although now I'm all about the bluetooth audio.

Haha true... that's the only time I revert to WinMo. I hate doing it so much, but there isn't another practical method to listen to my podcasts in my car at the moment.
IIRC, my phone came with the adapter to a 2.5" headset. I don't think it's stereo though. Is that the adapter you are using, or a third party one?
Great news guys! looks after after the OTA update the WIRELESS controller works!!!
Winning!
Awesome! You need the dongle plugged in, correct?
I really want PS3 wireless since I don't have the dock.
yes, forgot to say that dongle needs to be plugged in! But its wireless!!!!!!!!!!

what do you want to know?
I mean you just update your transformer to the latest firmware and you plug it in. Thats it
Wired controller still not working.
Edit: It appears to be working, just not completely recognized by some apps... hrm... I'll set the keys, but it'll say "unrecognized" but then go play the game, and it works fine. So I guess all is good? All buttons are recognized, other than the triggers, it appears.

I think they're talking about the pc dongle that lets you use the wireless part of the controller. It actually came out before the 360.
The wireless dongle is probably this:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2
which I dont' see how would come out prior to the 360..but oh well.
Personally if I have to plug in something to the tablet anyways..I'd probably plug in the wired 360 controller cable. Not like you are going to sit 6 feet away from your tablet and play.

There were a few things that came out prior to the console's release and this was one of them. It wasn't like weeks prior if I remember correctly, but yes, the dongles were out before the 360's release.

??? The manufacture says it will.
The a500 doesn't support usb charging, supposedly there will be an update to allow it.

Do you have a link to a source stating that there will be an update to allow it?
It doesn't make sense to me, because the hardware physically can't support it (USB can only deliver 5V, whereas the A500 wants 12V IIRC)
It won't work like stated before a micro usb charger won't have the juice to do it. When you plug in the micro usb the charge light does not come on. Not supported and I don't know of any update that will change that.
Update: I just actually clicked on your link and the whole bundle is suspect. The wall charger is even a micro usb. Won't work, perfect example of a company throwing together a cheap bundle to entice the consumer that he is getting a great deal. I bet the chargers aren't even 1000ma which would be the minimum need to charge our tablet if it supported it.
charging and running a 12v device thru a 5 v port.. IF acer figures this out or any other company as in the one the OP is posting..
This company will RULE THE WORLD. BY SOLVING THE ENERGY demand crises in the world... Getting a bit over double energy as you put into something...
Sheesh even a Lame Blonde chic figured this out the day I BOUGHT MY iconia. it Says 12V 1.5 a on my charger... First thing i looked at so i could set my CAR INVERTER . for my tablet.. But with the battery life of the iconia I nearly never need it.. I can howerver charge my cell phone from the usb port in my tablet..
OP no offence but some companies will use popular device names just to trigger sales Read fine print and there exact specs. on any such device..

Ok ..
Something just came to my mind.. .
I have a new notebook. that has a usb/sata port.. Now i know it required a special cable that is designed for a usb to sata hard drive to use it with a sata hard drive without a enclusure and it runs at the speed of a internal sata port.. when you connect a hard drive to this port . it shows up as a sata drive not a usb drive..
the drive i use is a 3.5 inch 2 tb hard disk that is 12v-5v..
so with this said. its actually pliable that this could work.. But im thinking our iconia does not have this type of usb port.. I will add the 12v usb /sata cable and hard drive will only work on that one usb port on my notebook. the others will not even register it.. If this is a device used in a usb/sata then connected to the Power port of the iconia.. there is a chance such a device COULD be created...
ok im rambling.. Because i DO NOT THINK THIS IS EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT.. most people do not even know this usb/sata shared technology exist....
LAME ERICA AGAIN.. sorry for stealing your thread op.. was just THOUGHTS

Dont be sorry, it is very interesting input. I am quite annoyed though because I was actually pretty stoked about having a USB charger. I agree the battery life is pretty good on the Iconia but there are always those days where you forget to charge the thing before going to work. (Thats what got me looking on Amazon in the first place)
I am doubly annoyed that someone might actually buy this and get a big disappointment when the product actually arrives.
Very curious about this SATA / USB port though. Time for some google fu!
i read the manual from HP with not much said in there other then its called a. USB/e-sata port.
I do also know its usb 3.0 standard this notebook is the HP dm1-us3020 model.I think the z version of this notebook does not have this port.the notebook is based on the and Fusion CPU.and gets 7 plus hours batterylife with moderate use.
Charging it is another story.its I think 9 cell li 19.7 v charging brick spent 125.00 for car inverter for this thing grrrrrrrr.
OK im at hair salon and its my turn.
wish me luck.
i believe what you're talking about is an eSATAp port. My (Toshiba) Satilite has one, I just use it as an extra USB port.

here is tthe cable I use .not sure if its the same brand
http://www.amazon.com/eSATA-Combo-P...LHVI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325966252&sr=8-1
Yes that is the port.as I said above it will run a 3.5 hard drive connected with nothing more then a cheap USB to e-sata unmanaged.(no chips or resistores in cable) type of cable.for all I know all newer notebooks might have one.
I was just making a point that you could in theory charge your Iconia from this port to the Iconia power port.
As the hard drive requires12 vfrom my knowledge.but im not cutting my cable to try it.Don't ask Giggles.

Very interesting. According to wiki, laptop eSATAp ports deliver 5v and desktop eSATAp ports deliver 12v. Not sure where in the computer the extra v come from.
I don't have the charger with me so I don't know the specs but I'm wondering if a USB 3.0 to iconia power plug cable would hypothetically work?
Amazon item from op
I got very frustrated after looking around on amazon today for something diffrent.. Frustrated seeing this add for the product you talk about all over the iconia a500 searches on amazon.. So i emailed them about this product . giving them the specs of the a 500 along with a link to the required charger. I also did a review of the product warning anyone from buying this...
I suggest others do the same ITS JUST OUTRIGHT FRAUD...... the seller sent me a response stating the device will do what it says. well not for my iconia it will not..
If you've ever opened up the TF, you'd very quickly realized that there's a lot of unused room in there. I found a 64gb flash drive from walmart for about $60 a piece. Got 3 of these. That gives me almost 200 GB.
I've been doodling with the idea of putting a usb hub inside the TF and then solder these flash drives onto it. Making room for the whole setup is no problem. Like I said, there's a lot of unused space in there. The problem is I don't know how to connect a usb hub inside there for the tablet to recognize it. Any idea guys?

i have a similar project in the works. i just wonder if we have a limit as to what size (storage) usb drive we use i want to try a usb powered 1tb hard drive...the possibilities would be endless.
one other idea i have no clue of how and if possible. but you know the EXT.(as internal) SD mod, what if we could find a way to do that with the usb storage.think of 1tb of storage("internally")!!!!!!

I've already done what you're talking about. I've already put 500gb, 750gb, and 1T HDD into the docking station while keeping the batteries.
What I'm talking about is putting flash drives inside the TF itself, not the dock.
yeh but im taking the dock apart and putting it inside like you are saying inside the tab that would better i think you idea is better.
i think both in conjunction would be insane!

Love the dock mod but the images isnt working in the thread
But getting the TF to recognize the usb hub should be that complicated.
You'd probably need the usb host adapter (or make one yourself, if possible, idk).
Then it should just be a matter of soldering the adapter to the correct pins on the docking connector.
You might need a switch of some sort to tell the TF when to be host and when to be slave.
I dont own the usb host adapter myself yet, so Im not sure how the TF acts with the adapter connected.
Maybe its still possible to charge and sync even though the adapter is connected.

Haha, we'll see.
I've figured out a way to solder in a usb board and connect a hub to it to add those 128gb flash drives. After spending all night going through the plans, I'm abandoning the thought of putting it into the TF itself. I'll be putting those flash drives into the keyboard dock, though. Solid state drives are certainly much better than the spin discs. Let's see, 128gb x 4 = 512gb of flash drive space... won't suck up my battery much and aren't prone to damage due to movement like the HDD.
Stay tuned for the result!

Man, you have balls modding out your dock like that I was impressed with your first dock mod of sticking that 500GB hard drive in it. Did you ever go back to that idea with doubling the battery life in the dock? I recall following that thread reading your updates and you got to a point where you said screw it.

Without people like me who like to push things to their limits, we'd still be writing with hammer and chisel on stone.
There's 2 questions that come to mind.
1) Will any of the USB ports support a USB hub? I seem to remember there being some issues with this, but I honestly can't remember anymore...
2) Will you lose the use of 1 of the USB ports on the tablet?
I'm inclined to say that most likely 2 will happen, unless you're very VERY good at modifying the boards and don't mind cutting trace, possibly. If I knew I could afford another keyboard dock, I'd be doing this right now. Sadly, I can't. =/
EDIT:Well, in a quick check with my ****ty USB hub, it didn't like any of my USB sticks, then saw 1 of them but none of the files on it, then just kept showing that 1 stick no matter what I put in it. I'm rebooting, but I'm kinda thinking it doesn't like the USB hub I have, or doesnt' support them?
EDIT2: Seems that it only lets me see 1 USB drive at a time. No matter what I did (outside of using the port on the other side). I kinda think either my USB Hub isn't working well (works fine on my PC) with the TF, or it just doesn't support it for some reason. Or more to the point, it seems it only supports 1 USB disk drive per USB port on the dock. If I put 1 drive in each port I get USBdisk1 and USBdisk2. Perhaps it's an OS issue or a TF issue in some way as far as software? One would think you could get more than 1 USB disk on each port though.

You really ought to read my hard mod thread. All of this has been discussed very thoroughly there. 2 Will happen. So what? There's 2 usb slots. Lose a usb slot to trade for 500gb storage space.
But that's why I put in a switch to turn on and off the hard drive. When the hard drive is off, the usb is usable.

Honestly though, read the few edits I put above....I kinda think this won't work the way you want it to...seems to be some kind of strange software issue in regards to USBdisk's, for some reason.
EDIT:I guess it COULD work, if you could mount them somehow. I'm not sure how the addressing and such works, and honestly my linux knowledge isn't what it used to be. I guess what I'm saying is it could be done, I'm just not personally sure how in software. If you figure it out though, let me know. I'm sure I'd be interested.
Any chance you could reupload the images for your HDD mod?
Shame you abandoned the idea of putting the hub inside the TF, that wouldve been very interesting.
And... any plans for a windows 8 app for xda?

I also have one, great tablet, I would like to see this too..........
I just got one yesterday and I mostly love it but with a few issues:
1. Using the USB port as a charge and device connector through USB OTG. Basically this means you can't use a device AND charge at the same time. No way to make a dock either. The should have at least put pogo pins on the outside of the case or put a Qi charger panel on the battery... Oh.. side complaint: 2A charger needed. So while it uses a USB cable, few PCs will have the chops to charge this thing. Then again, same for my Samsung Note 10.1 and the Apple iPad series.
2. No mini-HDMI, MHL or SlimPort support. You can hang a USB video card on it, but then you can't charge it and those things suck power. So we're talking powered USB hub... Miracast really doesn't cut it. Nothing supports it and external Miracast dongles are not cheap.
3. No GPS. I know this isn't standard on Windows devices, but it's very common on Android devices. Mind you - you should be able to use your phone to provide GPS data (ot to mention internet connections) over Bluetooth, so that's not as bad as it might seem.
4. Screen resolution. Ok - I'm actually of mixed minds on this - I'd like 1920x1200 - but even at 1280x800 the text seems small when you're in desktop mode...
5. Stereo speakers would be nice - but yeah, the one they include is LOUD.
6. 4GB RAM option would have been nice too.
None of these are killers - although 1 comes close. Still, the ability to run Visual Studio and do development on a tablet I can keep in my jacket pocket is really amazing... and even more amazing at $350.
It's not without compromises sure but it is one hell of an amazing tablet I No longer have a pc or laptop, I bought the official Keyboard and a cheap bluetooth mouse and I can work on it as well as play on it

I just got my Dell Venue Pro 8 and I was so surprised. Wow. I have also an iPad Air and Nexus 7 2013, but this tablet is going to be my favorite for a long time I think. Able to install Spotify, CCleaner, and was surprise by the quality of the windows 8 apps. For ex: FB, Twitter, Foursquare, but also Nook (as epub reader), FitBit, Netflix, OneNote, etc. Excellent surprise.
i am using it as a pc in my studio during the week.
great for surfing, youtube, office work, etc
i am totally happy with it :cyclops:
I love mine as well. If you're thinking of getting one don't hesitate.
