Hi. Is there a way to sync desktop and PPC, but not synching specific categories?

Hi
Not sure exactly what your looking for but Active Sync is rather limited. I use mobsync.exe which is an addon for active sync that allows the synching of any folder on device or storage card with folders on PC.
Mike

During a sync, there are some appointments I do not not to be synced to PPC, just leave those appointments on desktop (Outlook). I was thinking of classifying all those appointments under a category and not sync that category to PPC. Is there a way to do that?

Why make it so difficult for yourself...! What you are trying to do, synching by categories, is just asking for a mess...
Instead, with either Agenda Fusion or Pocket Informant, you can set up view and global filters to hide/show whichever categories you want.

Reason is that I have a lot of appointments that are related to work and would prefer to leave them on my desktop. Have a category called Office which has all (a lot of them) work related stuff and it does take a long time to sync to mobile device. It would be nice if I could exclude them from sync. That's the reason I'm looking for a way to exclude user defined category from synching.

I think older versions of ActiveSync supported this for WM2003SE. Seems that it was removed, along with Wifi synch.
I agree that being able to include or exclude specific synch categories would be very useful for many people.

Customising what ActiveSync syncs

I'm using ActiveSync 4.1 and was wondering whether it is possible to select what to sync in Outlook? The reason for this is I have numerous calenders, contact folders and notes, which I normally separate into personal and business.
use groups ?
Is this groups within Outlook or ActiveSync? I can't find any option for this.
The sync'ing software I've used in the past for SonyEricsson's and Nokia's allowed me to choose which "folders" to sync. I'm a bit surprised ActiveSync doesn't have anything similar.
Once you've performed your initial connection with your device in AS, you can configure your sync preferences in the options for your connection once you've established the relationship between device & host (your computer) by going to Tools -> Options in the ActiveSync application window. You can select a category of data (Calendar, E-Mail, etc) and provided the option has more configurable settings, hit Options to fire up that dialog box.
The quickest way (at least the quickest I can see, as it requires no initial connection before configuration) is to go onto your device, go into ActiveSync, go Menu -> Options and select which items you'd like to sync with your device there.
I can see the option on both my phone and ActiveSync to sync which Outlook component but I'd like to be able to choose exactly which subfolder to sync. For example I have 3 contacts folders and 2 calender folders in my Outlook profile but I only want to be able to choose which folders to sync. Not sure if I have explained this clearly...
I think ActiveSync will only sync the main folder in Outlook. So if you have 2 calender folders it will only sync the main one. You can choose what date range (past week, past 2 weeks etc..) and which sub folders in mail.
Gav.
Just tried creating a second calender folder and put some meetins in. ActiveSync did NOT sync these to my PDA.
Possibly one of the programs here might do what you need: http://pocketpccentral.net/software/sync.htm

Thanks for the advice Gav, I'll have a look at pocketpccentral.

Syncing Multiple Calendars

Hello,
I'm trying to get my Hermes to sync with the 3 calendars I have in my Outlook Data File - Personal, Training and Work. I haven't been able to find any calendar software that supports multiple calendars, but am using Pocket Informant with a custom view for my training and filters so that my personal and work calendar is combined on the device.
As things stand if I move something out of my personal calendar in Outlook into either of the other calendars, I lose it on my Hermes, what I'd like is to sync the contents of all 3 calendars into the single calendar on the Hermes, where I can use filters to set up the displays I want.
I've tried using PocketMirror Professional, but despite claims for Vista WMDC compatibility I couldn't get the desired configuration and it wiped my calendars completely - thank god for the recycle bin!
Anyway, anyone any ideas of an alternative work around?
I'm using WM6, OUtlook 2007 and Vista Ultimate. Thanks.
Try with new PocketMirror (WM) version 2.2.2 is compatible with Vista.

Import Calendar from Topaz to Outlook

Hi. I had to get a new computer and I want to import my calendar appointments from the Topaz to Outlook on my new computer. When I sync them, it only moves appointments from Outlook to my phone, but not vice-versa. Am I missing something obviously? Please help. Thanks!
Is there really no solution?
the sync. makes changes on your PPC just because the info on your PC is newer than you mobile. If you wanna change your pc's info, you'd better change it's date to an earlier time.
Yes its possible!
On your phone run ActiveSync program, without being connected to the PC.
Click the option Menu->Options
scroll down and find the Windows PC settings section.
click on Calendar so that its highlighted.
then there is a Settings button on the bottom right of screen click this and adjust the drop down so that it says All.
I believe that you didn't set so its only sync'ing the last 2 weeks (which is the default)
Hope that this works!
Unfortunetly while that synced my new appointments, it erased all my recurring, old appointments on my phone.

Active sync - multiple contacts subfolders

Hi all,
I've tried a search for a solution, but couldn't find it immediately:
I've a lot of contacts divided over subfolders in my Outlook. Apparently activesync does not work with subfolders: huh!?
Is there a new version I can download?
I really need the different maps, I can't work with categories
Regards
Koen
I don't think this is possible. I had the same problem as you.
What I did is to organize my contacts "by category" so instead of using sub folders assigning each contact to a specific category in Outlook. You can then view them in Outlook "by category" and filter in Windows Mobile by category.
I agree that this is a serious problem. With some of my contacts I've gone into Outlook (that I sync with) and placed a zz_ at the front of the "File As:" entry.
Then at least all of these contacts will be at the bottom of my list.
The other thing I've done is created an excel spread sheet (or even an html file) with a list of contacts that I don't want on my main list and copied that file to my phone. Sometimes I open that to find names and then copy and paste it into my phonebook.
Welcome to Activesync! This goes right back to the first Pocket PCs, Microsoft have shown no iterest in adding this functionality.
The only way you can do this is by using different sync software, which maps folders in outlook to categories on your phone. Works well for me.

Hi All
Yes I know this answer is a little late... But it might help others
If you want to Sync MS Outlook's Contact Sub Folders you need - Chapura PocketMirror Professional
I've used it for many years and excellent bit of kit (only used with office 2003)
Just checked online and they have gone 'bust' but I still have the software & in daily use - PM me if req'd

Synch Android w/ Multiple PCs

Tried to search on this but the terms are so generic, I didn't have much luck.
Is there a way to set up two partnerships with my Android phone, so that I can have contacts from work on my phone and home machine, but keep my personal contacts synchronized from my home Outlook private and out of my machine at work?
In other words, I want to synchronize some, but not all, groups, based on the desktop.
Thanks in advance.
Are you running Outlook at work too, keeping your contacts in separate folders (one being personal and the other work related on your home computer), if so do you have your contacts on your phone setup identifying the differences as well? How can your phone move files, can they be fed directly ibro Outlook or are they transferred as a csv file? Worse case you use one Gmail and Live accounts to sync and the Live accounts to sync with your two Windows computers. I have gotten creative when it comes to getting the information I need to me from my computer at another location regardless of what operating system it is. Gmail, Live and Cox accounts are great storage accounts and servers.
If you still need help and haven't found a solution I could help you out, it would just be easier if I knew the details of your current syncing program (if any), its capabilities (if it interfaces directly with Outlook or creates csv files) and any thing else you use to transfer your files.

Sorry, should have included the information you ask about.
Running Outlook 2007 on both desktops. It was my plan to use HTC Sync. I do have my work contacts categorized into their own group, so if there's a way to synchronize only specific groups by desktop, that would be ideal.
Bump. Still looking for a solution.
Ping. Nobody has feedback on this?
