TT6 on K-Jam - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I have TT6 on my K-Jam
I know that the K-Jam is not a supported device blah blah. It is sooo slow and virtually unuseable (especially changing roads on, say, a roundabout). I have soft reset and only have pocketweather running. Any ideas why it is sooo slow?? TT5 is nothing like as slow.
Cheers,
Mick

Actually I found v6 to be faster than v5.21 on my Wizard. 5.21 crawled along with 30+second startup times and would give turn instructions after the junction. If I do feel things are getting slow I usually cold start the GPS, by removing the battery, and once it has found the satelites again it works fine. In my case it is the GPS unit not the Wizard that causes the slow down.
Things to check...
1 What ROM are you using
2 Have you considered overclocking you wizard
3 How many POIs are you displaying
4 How much resources does pocket weather take
I'm using v6 on an unclocked Molski ROM with only PocketGPS speed cameras as visible POI. I can use Mortplayer and make/take phone calls all while navigator never misses a beat.

That solved it! It only slowed down recently - which coincided with me using poi edi and putting loads of extra poi's on the device.
Many thanks!!

My version 6.010 also runs so slow compared to version 5.21 on my xda mini s which is overclocked to 245mhz. It just can't keep up when going round roundabouts etc.
I only have the "warn when near poi's" enabled for the speed camera database, the seperate speeds, ie 20, 30 40 etc. Nothing is ticked in the "enable/disable poi's"
It does load up in 5 seconds compared to version 5 taking 20 seconds, but after that it's sluggish, shame really.

What an awful device!!

Hello,
I bought the prophet 200 (xda neo) hoping it would turn out to be a decent device that provides speed as well as endurance in terms of cpu and battery. Unfortunately was badly dissapointed in both factors.
I installed the newest DOPOD rom.
Here are some apps that I installed:
Pocket Plus
Pocket diary
TCPM
Skype
Resco Explorer
Opera
Agile messenger
spb backup
news break
my problems with the device is that I have the feeling that it operates way too slow. This is the first time I own a PDA so it might be my preception that is deluding me.
a couple of examples: If I scroll down the contact list it goes rather slow and laggy. It takes quite a few seconds if I start up an application like opera, IE or skype. Sometimes the start menue pops down only very slow.
Resco File explorer starts slow and takes a while to perform an operation.
Using Pocket Informant is almost impossible beacuse it takes 6 Seconds or so until the app is started and the navigation through the app itself is very slow. (if i want to add a contact it takes 4 seconds until the forms are loaded)
Same applies to Fusion Agenda.
Talking with skype almost does not work at all. When I make a call i cannot adjust the volume anymore or it reacts like 20 seconds later and flips out on me. I cannot end a call because the device almost crashes and it takes 10 seconds to get it back. The other person can barely hear me.
There is another thing regarding battery drainage.
Let me give you an example, If I have just finished charing the device and it displays a battery charge of 100% I unplug it and 1 minute later it goes down by 1% to 99 - an additional minute and the battery meter displays 98. By the end of the day i seem to have a charge of maybe 40% while using the device for maybe 1 hour intensly and the rest just phone standby with maybe 2 calls of 2 min avrg length.
On top i noticed that the left side of the device gets a littel warm when I am using the device extensively or charging it. Is that also normal?
Whats the deal with my device? i dont know a whole lot about pda's. Is that a normal power consumption?
How can I measure if my device performs well in terms of CPU speed because I have the feeling it also runs slow.
please help

As for the battery issue, not sure what to suggest.
after I overlocked my XDA neo (with JAMin WWE ROM) to 252 mhz, I found it runs all programs very smoothly. I can open media player, and read novels at the same time, switch between all the running programs is very smooth and fast. compared with my another PDA (intel Xscal 400 MHZ CPU), I could not see big difference.
Times you mention are quite realistic. My Qtek S200 performs at about the same speed (program startup times) and I can live with it. To improve a little, try to use some task manager to see if you have cpu-intensive programs or today plugins running. also, close programs instead of minimizing them (use magic button, gs pocket magic or else).
Concerning battery, mine seem to last longer. Do you have a dual sim adapter? I found out it was draining my battery very fast also in flight mode.
If you do not need voice dial, there is a thread in these forums about uninstalling it and magically getting a fast keyboard switch (no more 6 s waiting for changing from phonepad to handwriting recognition).
Hope that helps.
Poket plus really hog the CPU. especially the today plug in. I had the same isues. just enable only 1 tab, delete all the other plug in tab for pocket plus. use the meter that you need only. I only use storage meter and it sppeds up quite significant. either that or use resco's today plug in if memory meter is all you need.
As with almost all Pocket PCs out there, I bet you are suffering from the well-known-not-too-mentioned bug of Windows Mobile 5 (inherited from WM3) where the notification database starts accumulating duplicate entries and in a few days, you'll end up having hundreds of duplicate entries, rendering the device almost useless.
You need something like Memaid or similar app to get rid of the duplicate entries. (There are some freewares out there).
Also, make sure you move all your data (and install most apps) into SD RAM, not the internal RAM. You'll get better performance when you keep your PDA above 10-13 megs of program memory.
Just a few pointers...
Best regards,
Rayan

Hi, Can you point me to the post you are mentioning? I have been searching high and low for it but I cannot find it.
I have a Dopod 818 Pro and have Cyberon Voice Commander installed. I uninstalled it yet the 6s delay in switching input modes seems to be still there. I have tried to remove all DLLs and traces of it from the registry, yet have been unsuccessful in removing the 6s delay.
Can you please help?
Thanks
I haven't used the dopod rom but with the newest imate rom (from May06 I think?), the SIP delay is gone. Also, it seems that several of your 3rd party apps are resource hogs. The jamin can function quite well if not trying to run too many today plugins.
Hi thank you for the reply
Actually, I won't like to flash an imate rom to my device as I don't want to take any chances with it. It cost me a lot of money and I want to play it as much by the book as I can hehe..
Other than that, is there a way? I know that this delay has always been there, even when the device was brand new and was running no 3rd party today plugins. It's great that imate managed to solve the issue. Maybe Dopod will get on the ball and do something about it too. I hope so.

TomTom5 gets slower and slower when in use..

I've got a problem with my new MDA Pro and my legal copy of TomTom5.
It looks like TomTom is getting slower and slower when I use it, almost like there's a memory leak or buffers that are overflowing.
When I start TomTom and directly close it, there's no problem.
But when I start and navigate for about half an hour, the maps aren't draw smoothly anymore. Just like a cartoonmovie where some images are missing, the picture is "jumping" (hope you know what I mean).
When navigating for about one hour TomTom takes about 2 minutes to close and the program memory has about 10 Mb less than before I started TomTom. This memory is (as far as I know) only released with a soft-reset.
When navigating for more than 90 minutes TomTom doesn't close anymore and there's no reaction from my MDA. A soft-reset was the only solution.
I have this problem not only when navigating, also when I use the "advanced planning" option this problem occurs.
All POI's are disabled.
When TomTom slows down, it's not only the program. All other functions of the PDA slow down. For instance, when I receive a text message the sound takes about 30 seconds to complete the notification sound... :?
My MDA Pro is upgraded with the latest T-Mobile Netherlands ROM.
Don't know if the problem also occurs with the origininal ROM because I flashed it right after I bought it.
TomTom is version 5.21.
Any thoughts?
Using the same windows rom (vodafone ext) I have the similar issue, I can install it and get as far as choosing a voice, when it gets so slow it stops, after which it closes. Oh dear! No more tomtom. Big problem and no one knows how to fix it, amazed you got it to go as far as actually loading up at all.
Greg.

iGuidance vs TomTom

I've used both but I want to know what ppl here think.
The two things I live about iGuidance over TomTom is the accuracy of the map in my area and the ability to get the address from PIM.
TomTom's much better to me. I don't even really need to overclock TomTom but with iGuidance, I have to overclock my MDA to 240 (I should try higher).
I generally use iguidance over TomTom. The maps are generally more accurate and the POI list, specifically the restaurants, appear to be better in iGuidance. I also like the address/POI/general data entry methods (ie: street first) more.
TomTom is much prettier, runs much better, and gets more 'wow' points but as far as functional software, I'm an iGuidance guy.
iGuidance
I am a tech support for one of the PDA GPS solution company, I strongly recommand iGuidance over TomTom for it price, function, and user friendly. I like iGuidance giving me more information on voice prompt such as tell me the exact number of of highway exit and the number of the highway I need to turn to. It also tell me the destination will be on my left or right. The only think I like TomTom is the interface looks prettier that's about it.
does iguidance allow you to view in landscape mode? For some reason this is my preferred way. Maybe its because I got used to my parents Tomtom or something.
iGuidance works fine in landscape mode, but I still prefer it in portrait so I can see more of the road ahead when using the heading=up style navigation. As for the complaints of resource use, it always seemed to me that TomTom used far more than iGuidance and gave me more sluggish performance and a slower startup time. The Tomtom interface never won any points with me either with having to go through a few "pages" of settings to try and find what I wanted. You shouldn't have to flip through 3 pages of options (I think that's how many it was) just to exit the program.
My favorite part about iGuidance though is the customizable map regions so I can include only what I need.

great! does it allow you to change it from within the software like TT does, or do you have to rotate the screen in WM5 before loading it up? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm pricing out bundles from Semsons and just wanna know what I'm getting into.
I use both tom tom and i-go (http://www.i-go.com/en/index.php)
I find tomtom works better, I-go run slowly on the wiz
Does iGuidance have UK Maps?
IGuidance, even though it is slightly slower than tomtom, Is a lot nicer, but i will definatly have to go back to tomtom unless i can make iguidance not turn off the screen. With tomtom (.21) it kept the screen on so i could glance at it and see wtf was going on. With iguidance the backlight keeps going off and makes it impossible to read without really moving it close to my face. Is there any way around this? I have crawled all of the menus in iguidance. I would REALLY love to use iguidance all the time but it is a PIA when the screen keeps turnin off.
UK Maps for Iguidance
I am using Iguidance for North America but I would also like to know, does Iguidance have UK maps?
Any info please

First off, I have been using iGuidance for several years and have seen it steadily improve. The latest version has a number of substantial improvements: Displays more information at once. Better zoom in/out. Better menu system. At a $9 upgrade fee, I was pretty happy!
Now, as for the screen going dark, I think this is a function of whatever settings you have set in the control panels. I use PhoneAlarm and have a "Car" setting in which it never shuts off when on my charger.
And a question: Since I installed the latest version, it seems to talk like this: "Turn... right... in... 500... yards." That is, it enunciates each word well but with a sizeable pause in between words. Also, I installed to Storage Card, I wonder if that might be causing problems.
Otherwise it works great!

Mine does the same thing - though it seems to only be sometimes, I think the issue stems from the fact that it is basically looking up the word to say from a list of them, the ole wizard isnt exactly speedy - its a heck of a lot better when I OC to 252. Iguidance all the way. TomTom may be slightly prettier but has no more features and I love the fact that I load only the maps I need. If I live in NY why the hell do I have to have the entire map of Ohio or Colorado etc loaded? Its not like I am going to wake up one morning and find me and my car in them.

I read this problem on their site. I'm not going to go looking for the link again but if you turn off the data connection (EDGE or GPRS) it will work fine. I do this whenever I'm using iGuidance and now it speaks fluent English.
On the 8125 I go to connection manager and first click the icon to turn off push email. Then I click on the GPRS icon to turn that off also. Then it seems to work ok. Very often the 8125 will automatically turn the radio back on. If it does that I go back and turn it off while driving to get the voice back to normal.
It does seem odd that iNav did not try their software on a Windows Mobile before shipping it.

TomTom Navigator 6 is the best GPS
TomTom Navigator 6 is the best GPS IMHO; so comparing to version 5 is a little unfair.

whoever has this issue, i think it's because of the wizards slow cpu speed or memory speed. i had this issue but ever since i upgraded to wm6...it is so fast at loading destinations, etc. ...i mean, FAST!
also i believe new iguidance v3.1 will be out at the end of may, customer service told me...

TomTom Performance

Hi
How is the speed in tomtom, on your devices?
I have TomTom 6, on my advantage, and tomtom 5 on my universal...
The universal runs really smooth but the advantage stutters and updates once per second were the uni is total smooth.
Does anyone else have this issue? Is it the onboard GPS chip? or TomTom, or because the maps are install on the mciro drive, althoug i have installed them on main memory as well and it was no diffrent?
Is there a fix?

if you have the screen landscape instead of portrait, tomtom takes 4 times longer to draw the picture !! it is a known issue with tomtom but the creators cant be bothered to sort it out.

I have them both running in landscape, its just so slow at updateing am going to try and link my old GPS to the advantge and try that.
It runs slower than an Orange SPV I've seen running. It runs the same sort of speed as my old Axim x50v - there is a 'speed improvement' which basically involves turning off all the POI's as you're driving along - this gives the display a boost.
I've also seen suggestions of running the maps of the internal memory (if you've space) or a MiniSD card, which is supposed to increase performance, but I cannot say for definate if this is the case.
Oh yeah, and going from V6.00 to v6.010 has certainly helped!
QVGA
The biggest problem is the vga screen. Does anybody have a utility that can force the screen to qvga (lowres)? The VGA resolution and the OS that supports portrait better than landscape are the problem for the Ameo. When we can force TomTom to lowres it will be much faster.

sat nav sygic McGuider

Ok
I have used many kinds os sat nav software on pdas and smartphones over many years in my job as a driver.
In most cases all have good points and bad, or you wish if only tom tom did that or if igo was as good or what every.
A week ago I got a trinity an up grade to my s620exc so I set about learning as much as I could, which is still not a great deal lol.
So I put on tomtom 7 not very good in my eyes slow.
I went back to tomtom 6 faster and no trouble setting up or useing internal gps, but indoors it was very slow to find a fix.
Now after reading a report on sygic McGuider sat software I installed it and well I can only say it has to be the best sat nav programe around.
link to site belowe
http://www.sygic.com/manuals/manual_en.html#first
If like me you like your sat nav and a good map and easy to use lay out then I would give this ago.
I have always used tomtom but i am always trying other hoping to find a better one well I think I have found it.
what I found was just unreal was the sat fix indoors toomtom would take up to 5mins to find a fix. on the same phone same place 4 to 7 secs.
and out side in open space it was to fast to tell 3secs from a cold start.
give it ago I think you will like it.
Oh and let us know what you think of it, did you have any trouble installing, has it locked up your phone.
bug reports
as yet Iv not found any no lock ups still testing
Used it for the first time today running on a Touch HD alongside TT6 on an Orbit. Seek time for position fix floored the TT6, seconds against minutes, the Orbit has been getting slower for some time. Took me on a slightly longer route than TT6, cannot say if it was quicker. Minor differences on time and speed, only goes to one decimal instead of two. Takes a bit longer to set a destination, more keys to press. Running it on a screen with a larger display, I kind of hoped that that the keyboard keys would be a bit larger and easier to hit.
Seems easy to use, basic and fairly simple. Not impressed with Simon, the voice!
The only issue I have so far is that when I use another app on the device ie the phone, McGuider does not return to take over the screen and I cannot get it back. It must be still running in the background somewhere. If I go to programs and try to call it up, the button press is recorded but the program will not re-appear. The only way round it is to soft reset and restart the app. Not what I am prepared to live with.
Any ideas on what I need to change would be really appreciated.
Having been an avid TomTom fan for years I find Sygic Mcguider a breath of fresh air. Crisp and clear graphics which I feel are better presented than TomTom. In my experience the 'Lane assist' is a worthy inclusion which I find helpful. I'm aware later versions of TomTom have something similar to Lane Assist as I'm comparing Sygic to my TomTom V5.21.
Mcguider is in my opinion a highly polished version of TomTom and as such I haven't used TomTom since. Very easy to install on your smartphone etc. I would recommend Sygic to anyone. I have used Garmin,Navman,TomTom in the past but I see Mcguider as the future.
Hope this is useful to someone who wishes to try a TomTom alternative.
I want to test Sygic Drive on my Trinity (default Greek WM5 ROM) but the program doesn't autodetect the GPS port of my device. I have version 7.71 and the map Cyprus 2009 07. The program works fine, I can use the map without problem, but without GPS. I have tried autodetect several times without result. I have also tried manually COM9 and baud 57600 but no result again.
Which port and baud should I choose?
