Everytime I turn my xda on it won't get past the Windows Mobile splash screen.
Everything was fine until I installed a copy of Netfront that I had aquired (yes, I know it's my own fault for using cracked/copied software). Anyway the install went OK, it said I needed to restart, so I did, but now it doesn't get past the splash screen.
I'm thinking that if I can access the files stored on the xda then I might be able to remove enough of the traces of Netfront that it'll at least startup properly.
Is there anyway that I can access the files stored on my xda without needing to start up windows?
Finally someone with the same problem that me. Try tap the screen continuosly (every 4 seconds) when the splash screen appears then the system will boot up. let me know if works because we have to find the cause of that.
wow it worked cheers
Uninstalled Netfront and everything's back to normal
But the problem persists, it's nothing to do with Netfront. I believe you have a lot of app's installed, is it true ? I have Phonealarm, SBSH iLauncer, SBSH Pocketweather, Alarmtoday and Inesoft Address Book as today plugins. And you ?
I've got a fair few app's installed but no today plugins.
All I know is I installed Netfront and everything screwed up, I uninstall it and everything's back to normal so I'm happy.
Perhaps you should try uninstalling app's/plugins one by one and do a soft reset each time. At least you may be able to narrow it down to a problem with one particular app.
Done it ... Trust me you'l have the same problem when you'll install another application (not only with netfront). The question is why ?
Damn, you're right
Just installed Minimo, did a soft reset and it's back to sqaure one
How much Storage/Program memory left do you have ? I have 19MB/17MB
Storage 13MB
Program 23MB
Do you use smartskey/omapclock tweak ? i use omapclock with 264MHz
Nobody else has this issue ?
Don't use any of those
Everything's pretty much standard apart from registry wizard and a few app's installed
ok guys i have this same exact problem but the thing is it happend for no reason
one day i just turned on my phone and it was doing it it only starts after hours of messing with it i dont know why i havent installed or changed anything

Hi All....
I got this i-mate jasjar, which is universal.....
I had set the password for my Device... Now when reset it comes till that Password Screen, and after I enter the password it freezes there itself... where at the bottom it give weired options... like Select & Exit.. But you cant click on them or anything...
Does anybody got any idea why the helll its happening?... Or its as usual from HTC.. time to go for Hard Reset?
I hope its not...
Update : Its really weired, Why HTC doesnt like Phone Functions at all.... If I take the SIM Card and if I switch on the Device everything works fine, but if I put the SIM Card again the prob comes again... Tried with two different SIM Cards
Regards
MNIKO
argh! me too. I am lothe to remove the password protection but this bug has me soft resetiing five times a day atm! new rom please I-mate...
I removed handy switcher and this problem went away. will we ever find a task manager that works well with wm2005?
I am using Vidya Task Manager, works fine so far without any prob... Still Hady Switcher wins my vote... now I am running my JasJar without Password.
Although I have a HTC I have noticed GS++ button does the same. So I guess that a few task managers might have this side effect.
PS. I am using WM6.
This has happened quite a few times to me, but my problem was today plugins.
When the phone password/simpassword screens appear the today plugins still load underneath - if they fail to load for some reason then youre freezes.
I do not use the phone password screen now as another I had was that icons for apps located on the storage card would not load for some reason.

this phone is starting to stress me out more then work does!
the memory card messes up atleast twice a month. and i've only had it for 2 and a half months!
for i have to reformat the phone all the time, cuz somehow the memory card messes up my programs too. i installed IguidenceV3 on the storage card, and now that the card messed up, when i reinstall it, the program won't run! it keeps saying it's not signd with a trusted certificate or one of it's compents aren't found. WTF!
i deletw, reinstall, reflash etc.. nothing works anymore!
i have reflashed my phone about 10 times already!
im about to throw my phone against the wall!
argh!
wtf is wrong with this phone!
i even used sprite backup to make a backup of all my stuff, so if my phone does fuk up again, i can easily restore it, but the restore keeps failing! wtf! i hate this ****!
either youve messed up somink real bad...or you got bad luck
my phone is fine..! had it since march..done one hard reset to get rid of the tmobile stuff..
storage card etc is fine

Your best bet at this point is to do a hard reset, wipe everything, and then reinstall NOTHING for a day and see how the phone works. Not 15 minutes or an hour, a day. If it seems ok, try overclocking again if you really think you need it. Again, install NOTHING else and let it go for a day and see if overclocking kills it. If not, start installing software, one by one, and see how the phone reacts to each. Don't install a dozen and play with them, install one at a time, check it out, do stuff with it, see how everything reacts before installing the next one. And finally, the today screen crap sucks up tons of memory and CPU time and leaks like a sieve. Get rid of it.
Sounds like some pretty good advice. Having all of those programs installed will surely create some type of conflicts within the OS.
when I first got my K-Jam, I installed all the plugins and apps I had on my last PPC. I found within a day or so my K-Jam would simply reboot itself whether I was touching it or not. And it did it a LOT!
I did a hard reset and ran it that way for a couple days and it was an amazing phone. I then only installed a couple apps at a time. I eventually found it was a today plugin that was causing my problems.
I haven't had a single problem since then. I'm betting it's one of the *MANY* apps you have installed.

I agree with markgamber, to do a hard reset and run it clean for a while. Rather than blame the phone, perhaps the issues lie with the storage card.
Also, some apps don't like to run from the storage card, as I had a similar same problem with PocketMusic installed on the card. It was flakey, getting worse by the day, and after a hard-reset and reinstall this time on the device it runs fine (so far).
I just installed iGuidance v3 but put the app on the device with maps on the card. It runs fine so far.
After verifying the phone is working okay without third-party software, install iGuidance on the device (maps on card, of course) and give it a try. If you still have trouble, try replacing the card.

if you on 02 get rid of the o2 active rubbish itll run a lot better
Oh yeah....one last thing since I see you're running 2.17....get rid of that tweaks rubbish. I run 2.17 and it works great just as it is. All you're going to do by "tweaking" it is destablize it for what probably amounts to an imperceptable performance gain. I'd also recommend dumping the overclock bit, too. If you get rid of all that today screen junk, you will probably find that real apps run just fine without having to resort to tricks like overclocking.
I was playing with several ipod UI's for my Hermes and somehow my remove programs list is now blank. the total storage memory available at the bottom is also blank.
it seems like i didnt install anything...but all my programs that where installed before still works.
i think it happened after i uninstalled WA2 and WAD.
anyone know how i can get it back???
Hi,
try to remove the last 1 or 2 programs you've installed using activesync (add or remove software) .... your list should come back.
bye
Thanks for the help...but i am using WMDC and it gives me an error everytime it tries to sync.
sigh...i guess i'll just have to upgrade to black 3.5 with a fresh install.
Sorry to ressurect an old thread but I just had exactly the same issue on my HTC Touch. All my installed programs have vanished from the list (but still work) and ActiveSync won't connect to let me install or uninstall anything.
I have 6.97mb of storage free and 16.33mb of program storage free.
Any ideas how to sort this out without clearing everything out and starting again?
hello guys,
i've got a little problem, a while ago my device started to "hang" on the startup, when soft reset my device it boots, but then, when the backlight fades away, and i wait a while my device is stuck on the "Windows Mobile" screen.
this doesn't happen when i keep pressing my touchscreen when the backlight fades away, but i find it quite annoying.
so i was wondering, has anyone got a solution for this annoying problem?
Thanks in advance
Greetings Richard
It's time to hard reset you device...

already did that and restored using a backup but it didn't solve anything
are you saying i should reinstall everything? :O would be quite ****edup
yep something in the backup you made is screwed, probably a startup program.
if you are able to get fileexlorer up before you soft reset after the restore you might be able to move all the shortcuts out of the startup folder to somewhere else then try putting one back each time until you find whats crashing it.
allthough a full reinstall of everything would be quicker and less work

thanks, mayb a noob question, but where can i find this startup map?
full reinstall would be more work i think, because i have alot of software on the device, so also alot of settings etc., so i think i'll go for option 1
Mostly they are in \Windows\Startup, and some may create system services which you can view (and disable) using TaskMgr (a freeware)
hey first thing i want to say is this phone is amazing and it blows away everything and anything i have had in the past (ok not my 360 though).
but in the last 2 weeks ive noticed whenever i perform a soft reset, mainly because of some program freezing, it takes an enormous time for the phone to recover functionality. i mean, that when i turn the phone on, i see the pink circle appear and then the t-mobile logo, after that the Launching HTC Sense shows and then it takes about 2 mins to completely show the home screen, i.e. clock tabs calender, notification bar and all.
thats all fine, but then when i try to scroll through the home screen tabs at the bottom it jitters and is extremely unresponsive moving after like 30 secs to 3 tabs. its the same with the start button, when i try to scroll down the apps its really slow and does the same jitters and when i select something it just does that 4 colour dots loading thing.
it happens every single time after a soft reset, however if i turn the phone on and leave it aside for around 15 mins then when i try to scroll through tabs or apps it works a treat, like nothing was wrong with it.
please can someone help me, i dont know if its some start up programs causing it or some registry tweak that needs to be applied to correct it. but any help is greatly appreciated and thank you
p.s. i have quite a few apps installed :s i installed resco explorer and through 1 of the apps 'system info', im going to post some of the numbers maybe it might shed some light.
program memory 336.9 MB - used 193.86 Mb (58%)
storage memory 214.7 MB - used 204.99 MB (95%)
storage card 1.8 GB - used 1.78 GB (97%)
here is a list of the things under \Windows\StartUp
BTTrayCE
DelWMPTempFolder
HTCStartUp
PKG
poutlook
RunGNAgent
XMmobiresetter
I suspect its down to having a shiny new toy and access to this "sweetshop" of a forum that's at the heart of the issue here. I too had similar problems earlier today when my storage memory dipped even lower than your's that resulted in pop up messages from windows warning me about critically low ammounts of storage and telling me to remove some installed or redundant files to improve performance..cue bye bye to co-pilot as I dont use it and things have improved considerably.Amongst the stuff I've installed are Tomtom navigator 7, Garmin mobile XT,Igo8.3.4,ACR hd,Totall commander,Resco file explorer, myplayer,Zoomer, skyfire,BsB Tweaks and a slack handfull of games...(all of them installed to the SD card which is now almost at capacity...roll on getting my 16gb card )
These two programs (RunGNAgent, XMmobiresetter) are not in my startup folder, so try to delete them (before deleting backup them), and see if that helps.
first of all thanks to terrytpot and Mikulec.
ill try to uninstall some apps and try an reduce the memory as much as i can and see if i notice an improvement. hopefully that'll work and ill also do the backup of the 2 files and delete them from the startup.
thanks again
P.S. if anyone has anymore ideas that would greatly appreciated. thank you
rungna.exe what is it, explained
well I did some experiments with this rungnagent.exe. witch apeared to be in my startup folder.
I installed sbp-safemode (just in case i would crash the phone (ps im having a samsung i-780).
then i moved the rungna.exe to my storragecard (away from any bootup options)
I shutted my phone down holding the on/off button and restarted it.
instead of waiting 2 minutes for the phone to startup I could scroll trough start, my homescreen and apps (really fast) within 20 seconds, wich was the startup-time when i got the phone .
I made sure that all my apps were still working and guess what they did not have any complications to any backgrounded or foregrounded apps.
I was starting to get very curious about what this app would be.
I loaded the program to my windows 7 desktop-pc and scanned it using filealyzer from savernetworking (the makers of spybot search and destroy).
the file seems to be a .net executable microsoft visual c# v.7.0 . net program with the following funtions in the hex-strings (the commands given to a program on how to funtion) and the behaviour is (in my case):
check the installed files from the program google navigator.
there's also in te hextext that it has to open google navigator trough a link in the windows folder named Google "Navigator.ink"
so when you deïnstall google navigator (in my case I did that because the software was crap). it can't load and run it's intergration with the system at startup and may hook your mobile phone down at that very same startup. the makers of the software just made a mistake in their deïnstall executable because it doesn't remove this specific file. (google navigator is not google maps google navigator is a 3d navigation program using google maps you can find their software on pdafun.net)
so when you deïnstalled the program just put the file somewhere on the phone (just in case) or at least remove it from your startup folder.
So this would mean: Problem solved thread closed XD
ps
my phone stoped freezing when i deleted this startup entry so for some reason it also hooked up the system when you opend more than 5 regular apps. having you to reset the phone all the time. those problems are gone now .
I would suggest that you install spb pocket plus buy it (or bittorent it XD). the software has many handy features with one in specific being very handy. the boot in safemode option.
when your phone crashes 2 times (so you stik your stilus in the resethole 2 times) it comes up with a special bootscreen giving you 2 options boot regular or boot in safe mode.
boot in safe mode means you startup your phone without loading any registry entries or boot commands. you just get a blank screen (no deskapps, tochflow, home shells, etc). with the regular startbutton and all programs and settings. meaning you can fix the phone when it crashed.
fixing means not having to do rom-resets (while worrying about contact backups, messages and all those apps you installed and have to reïnstall from scratch when hardresetting).
good luck with ya pocket personal computer XD.
