is there a way to delete I-Mate .tsk today screens - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi
The I-mate .tsk today screens are big and take up a lot of space, is there a way that one can delete them from the JasJar?
Guava Bubbles, I-mate swoosh, I-mate grass
Thanking you in advance
Norman

Nope as they r ROM files.

well actually there is a way!!!!
create a blank txt file and rename it as ****.tsk where the **** stand for the the name of the file you want to remove. you can do this on your pc or with resco file explorer or with anyother file explorer other than the default one...now copy these files to the /windows folder....
while you are at it you might also want to remove the unused t9 language files and the .mp4 in the roms with the same method....
p.s i think you can even replace the guava theme file but i will advice against replacing the default windows theme
cheers

Yup buddy u r right by this way u can simply replace these files but i believe that still after replacing them with the smaller files u will not b able to get ne xtra memory out of it so y take a risk .

Do I simply back up my other GIFs and BMPs and overwrite them with these ones?
What about the .ini file?
Sorry, now I've read the ReadMe file
But I tried to copy out my old files and can only see the bmp files in Explorer on my PC. If I ask for the folder properties, the PC knows the gifs are in there but just won't show them. Any ideas?

That's no problem, yuou need photoshop or fireworks to view gif files. Maybe paint will view them also, i don't know
davehutch, yes in order to backup your existing dialler files you just need to copy the files in your PPC "windows" folder to a desktop folder. If you don't see all the files on desktop, go in Tools -> Folder Options and make sure that "Hide Protected Operating System Files" is not ticked.
I made a backup of the files and was able to restore backto default skin by just copying the files back.
Kept the intelidialler skin though ;-) I liked that, much neater than the default.

wm5 native theme/skin files??

hi
does anyone know where the native skin/theme files are for JJ? i dont mean the .tsk files i mean the (probably .dll) that controls the skin layout
forexample like there is a mui file that if replaced with custom images replaces the native wait thingie you see when the ppc is busy
im thinking if we can find and replace the actual .dll or mui file that controls the skin/theme (wifi, connection ,volume etc icons ) on the top bar then we can do soooo much more without having to install wa2 ...
dont get me wrong i love wa2 (i have it on with WAD now)
also like when you select ur own theme (.tsk file) ive seen that not all colors are shown as they were when the vga .tsk was created like you cant have a black theme ...wm5 will change it to gray and so on
so if you have any idea which file to mess with let me know..
id try myself but dont know which ones to look for and those i tried copying over to memory card or to pc via AS ..I GET A CANT COPY ERROR

How to install .XML files??

How to install the .xml files bundled in the cabs.rar?? I do not know how to make the extrom run automatically after the HR so i have to install each cab file 1 by 1, can anyone help??
Use the ones in cabs2. Also make sure you know what are those .xml for (they are replaced with .cab (s) in cabs2)
xml files are a typicaly a formatted text file like html
not really binary exe programs files
some programs use xml files to store settings and data
maybe they need to be in a location the program in question
will look for them

Did you mean copy the .xml files to the location of the program file ??
use HTCustom1.7.cab
yup...
I am having the same issue. I keep seeing these .xml files. I am not a computer guru lol. Do I cut and paste it somewhere on my phone or what? I am so lost please help.
Same thing here on my side mixtape_butcha. I'm subscibed in an Universal forum and have to install a USB switch which is a folder containing an xml file. I asked many time a guide on how to use it but nothing came back.
If you happen to know how to handle it, let me know. I'l do the same with you.
bests
Michael
first of all it is nice that you looked up a matching post yourself and obviously searched for a solution there, but...
if i get your problem right, it doesn't match the ones before. they were talking about .xml files that came with a cab file and stored the settings on how to install and execute.
you, however, talk about a subscribtion to a thread, meaning your xml file is an RSS feed, for which you need a special reader, since PIE is not a proper desktop browser and therefore does not handle feeds. but there is a lot of software out there to handle rss feeds. i personally use spb online 1.2, but there is also freeware, like this: http://www.dewantoro.net/search/pda+rss+reader+cab
i don't get the point with the usb switch though, maybe if that didn't solve your problem you should post further details about that issue and maybe post filenames or screenshots so we all know exactly what you are about to do.
You need not worry to install xml file if it comes with a cab. Cab file should be designed to use it automatically. xml files store usually configurable settings, it may be worth opening those files using any text editor like note pad or even IE to check the contents, that may help if any change is needed. But 99% chances are that you need not do any thing with those xml files.
I have found some people run in to this problem when they download a .cab file from the internet and once downloaded it is a .rar so you extract the .rar to find NOT .cab but .xml
Here is more about it and how to fix it.

I am trying to install a game on my MDA Vario IV , it does have .xml file. But no .cab files , only .000 file , .002 , .003 , and .004 files. How do i install this game then ? The installer is the .xml file.
EDIT : Nvm , fixed it , i needed not the files within the .cab file , but just the .cab file itself to extract in on my mobile.

Couple of things:
You are in the wrong subforum. This section is for the Blue Angel. You should look for the Blackstone (aka Touch HD) section.
Now, the file that you opened is a cab file. You don't need to extract the contents of a cab file. Just copy it to your device and click on it one. The cab will install everything, including the settings in the xml.
Good luck!

flash resco on magician?
is it possible to flash the resco explorer on the magician soo it becomes default?

Save 6 megs on the UK O2 Oribit ROM

For those who want to save a little space, you may notice that there are some useless pictures and HTML files built into the ROM that you can't delete with Resco or any other File Explorer. Well you can replace these useless files with ZERO byte files if you don't mind having zero byte files on your device.
Just Unzip and copy the stuff over to the Windows Folder on your device with Resco Explorer, this should be enough.
I've backed the original crap up and will upload these if anyone wants them back.
doubt it will work - those files are still in ROM - Try 2 do HardRST and they'll be back - only one way how 2 remove them fysically is to remove them directly from rom(so U have to cook one). Other think is if files are copyied during first boot(iniflashes.dat) then they can be removes-usually branding rubbish, tsk, lnk...
No it overwrites the ROM files.
again i doubt it - it doesnt owerwrites them. they only appears in Fexplorer || Resco as 0sized. Only one way how can i imagine to owerwrite them physically is using pdocwrite (maybe, not sure about it) did U try to HR UR device, and they appeared there with 0b size? Try it - files are still there. If editing ROM would be so easy, why anyone will spend time with building NBH.... Flashing....
