Desktop/Today screen background foto - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi all,
I suppose you all have tried the option to choose any foto as today screen background on WM5. That works fine. The trouble is Windows pales the fotos, which means it changes to contrast to a "milky" style. Does anyone now how to stop that ?
Greetings
Paddy

There is a transparency setting. When you select which photo you want to use as your background in Pictures and Videos (tap and hold and select "Set as Today Background") another screen shows up that lets you choose the Transparency Level. Set it to 0% and it will show up as it would normal when you look at the picture.

whiteish overlay on custom background image?

I tried setting my background image to a custom one and it shows up with this weird white overlay that makes it look really bright (darkening the picture doesn't really help). I have the same picture set as my splash screen and it looks great there, but as a background, it (or any other non-system image I've tried) looks horrible. What's going on here?
If you mean the Today background, and setting it through Start > Settings > |Personal| > Today* - known. It's done on purpose to enhance/keep legibility of items on the Today screen.
There's two things you can do..
A. make your own Theme with the image.
B1. Open the Pictures & Videos application
B2. Open the picture of interest
B3. Menu > Set as Today Background...
B4. Adjust the Transparency Level to read 0%
B5. OK
Awesome. I tried the B option and it worked great. Thanks

BG Image blurry

Hey guys, just wondering is it normal that the image in the background is sooooooo pale? This is the first time I've put a pic on the desktop instead of the theamed image and the picture is almost invisible. Any comments?
Select the picture you want to use as your background. It will open in the Picture Viewer. Tap "Menu > Set as Today Background". Setting the transparency of the picture to 0% will make it show up UNfaded.
Effn eh?! My nick should be newbie.
Thanks a lot though

'Whitewashed' Background Pictures on the Today screen

I find that when I 'Use this picture as a background' (WM6, Dopod D810) the image appears but it's always 'whitewashed'. By that, I mean it's faded to white - I'd prefer to see the photo in it's full colour with no faded look.
I'm certain that in the early days of WM5 this used to work fine?
Any ideas would be appreciated
use picture & video viewer to find the picture you want to use as your background. tap and hold for the context menu and select "Set as Today Background..." a screen will appear where you can select transparency. set it to 0% and you should be in business!!
Thanks cortezzi, I'll give it a go.
Any idea of XnView Pocket does it? I can't seem to find a 'set as wallpaper' option.
*can't find it*
Also tried out a trial version of Resco Photo Viewer and although it allows me to Save > Use as Home Screen then set the viewable image area and transparency (which I set to 0), however the new wallpaper never appears despite receiving the message 'Picture was correctly set as Today wallpaper'.
Settings > Today shows the background picture is currently set to 'Custom Wallpaper'
Is there a registry hack I can do to stop the default Today settings from adding transparency to new background images?
I had the same problem.. In my case it was caused by the theme I had installed. Try a different theme or modify the one you use.
as helpful as ever....thanks blitzwurst
i tried using a plain colour theme with spb menu but any custom today backgrounds i choose still come out with transparency. how exactly do you suggest i do this? i'm certain that it used to work fine (no transparency) under WM5....
i'm just eager to make use of the great backgrounds another xda user suggested on the Slide2Unlock topic (I think) at http://www.zuned.be !
That Zune site is pretty nice!
In my case I had to get a theme (.tsk) editor and embed the background I wanted into the Theme as opposed to selecting an image from the device to use as a background.
no worries, i might do the same...any recc's on a good theme editor to use?
does it run on the device or on a pc?

How do you set Background transparency on the Today Screen

I tried searching the forums but could not find how to set the transparency of a JPG or BMP on the Today screen when Touchflo3D is disabled. Currently I get a greyed out background. Previously on earlier phones there was an option to set the transparency level when selectring a today background but the Touch HD does not have this option.
I wold appreciate any help in solving this problem.
Thanks,
go to pictures and video, tap and hold the image you want to set as background and select on the popup menu "set as background..."
there you can select the transparency of the image
Knew it had to be somewhere

Click to collapse
Great, Thank you. Tried in Album and Explorer but not there. Working perfectly now.

change BG image without TF3D?

Hi there...
I just got mine and first thing I wanted to change was the background image.
1) disabled TouchFlo3D in settings->home>elements
2) tried to set background image
my problem: The background image appears very bright almost white, so i cant really see it and because it is so white i almost cant read any words...
Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
AO
This is one of those things that really bugged me when I first started using Windows Mobile. If you choose your Today screen background by going to "Today" in "Settings", the transparency is set at 50% or 60% by default.
Open the "Pictures & Videos" app. Select the image you want to use. Tap menu, tap "Set as Today Background...". Here you can set the transparency to 0% and tap ok.
Btw, I wonder why there's a transparency setting in the first place. Are there items that can appear beneath the wallpaper?
Yeah I had this problem a long time ago on my MDA do what he said and you should have a nice dark background in no time.
