Here we go again...
I have an HTC Tytn on Cingular. Suddenly the voicemail symbol (little tape on the top taskbar) will not go away even though I've clearly deleted my voicemails.
Anyone experienced this?
Yup, I get that sometimes on T-mobile. Don't blame the phone though - I think it's Cingular that's at fault. Telephone yourself and leave a message on your own voicemail. Then play your voicemail and delete your new message. It should go away now.
Thanks Izzard, that worked!

i'm not getting a voicemail icon when i have new voicemail.
it's never worked, should it?
solved. i just gave orange a call and they fixed it right away.
Right chaps..... Orange UK user, WM6.
When I phone my uncle, if he's on a call (engaged) I used (with a nokia) to get a wee message saying "call waiting" (he's on orange too) But now it just rings and rings until I get his answer machine.
OFC he knows it's me, but if he's busy he aint going to drop the call he'son to swap to mine...... sooooooooooooooo
How do I get the "call waiting" message back?
please?
do a search yourself - it has been discussed a couple of times.
but as yet no one has sorted it / fixed it.
Was hoping one of the rom-cookers or reg hackers may know how it can happen, Orange "must" send a management message OTA to my phone to make it show "Call waiting", cos Nokias etc can all do it.
So has anyone got any idea about how to get it working?
Instead of letting it ring out to answer phone at the other end, would be nice to know the other person knows I am calling and that thye are on a call, gives me the oportunity to hang up rather than wait for the answer phone to cut in.
You are right about the operator must have sent such a "call waiting at other side" signal to the phone. But apparently, HTC decided that it is not important enough to warrant a notification on your cute little Trinity, and as a matter of fact, all HTC machines
I think either you swtich to Nokia/SE, or you go bug HTC for that, unless you know how to do low level stuff in the radio rom.
One day, I was using my phone as usual, until it had one of those phone-frozen spells that it goes through (the one where the phone refuses to hang up). Ever since then, my phone refuses to report new voice mail messages, even as I checked options from the voice mail and notification options in settings.
It's very odd that I get this. I'm only asking to see if I'm not the only person with such a horrible problem.
This may well be a problem with Orange rather than a handset/software problem but for the last month, i've had a notification that I have new voicemail but when I check there isn't one.
I've been through ROM updates and hard resets in that time so that would indicate that it's a service rather than handset problem but thought i'd ask here anyway just in case anyone knows how to fix it before I phone the idiots at Orange about it.
I've got an Orange HD touch I think what you are noticing is the voicemail icon appears when any type of message is received (text email etc.) not just when a voicemail arrives.
I hope this is helpfull, I know it took me a while to stop ringing voicemail every time the icon turned up.

It's not showing in the taskbar, it's saying 'New Voicemail' on the homesceen (under call history, above appointments).
Might not be the same but a few years ago I had a WM smartphone on Orange that would always tell me that I had a voicemail. The trick was leave myself a voicemail, listen to it, delete it then wait about 5-10 seconds before hanging up. The voicemail notification would then disapear. Then whenever I did get a voicemail I would listen to it as normal, delete it, then again wait 5-10 seconds before hanging up.
Worth a try!

That fixed it. Thanks very much.
Good to hear mate.
I can get the notification to go away if I call my voicemail, but it always comes back after a reset. I have absolutely no voicemails in my box, and I have tried the deleting the voicemail method.
Thanks for the help, it gets pretty annoying to call voicemail every time I restart.
Anybody got a fix? Haha thanks.
