City name on Today

My old cellular phone Ericcson R600 is ale to display name of the City I'm actually in.
I would like to have the same on today screen in my MDA2.
Is it possible? Is there today plugin which can do that?

That is not possible. The 'City name' is a Cell Broadcast (CB) message sent on CB Chanell 50 - Windows Mobile can receive CB messages, but there is no special handling of specific CB messages.

is it hardware specific (radio ROM) or OS (WM5 ROM)?

It is not impossible, but such plugin is not known (till now).
It's possible to receive broadcasts (like SMS), don't disturb phone user and store information anywhere.
It is possible to retrive stored information and display on the today screen, too.
I was thinking about this plugin, but time... May be in january ...

actually, pocketmax's phonealarm plays around with "Location-based information (change profile dependent on current location!)" which I think is similar to what you are looking for: it picks up the CellID signal, but not sure what it translates into. The idea is that when you're at "work" it'll pick up on that cell tower and switch to that profile, but I don't think it gives you the "city name".
It's also an experimental addon that doesn't work on every service.

I don't need profile switching. What I need is ability to show on Today Broadcast messages from specific channels

This is possible but the app would have some problems on newer devices as the BCM messages are ignored if the header is similar (for power consumption reasons) so if you would stop the app and restart it but not switch cells you would get no CBM to retrieve info from...
But for XDA2/2i/3 it would work np.

so it's possible but no app? is it possible to write it such plugin in .Net? I don't know C++ well..

Not sure if this will help you. The guy mentions home screen but I havent tried the app myself. Not sure what its compatible with.

It works on smartphones only.

there is a plugin called dktoday (its free!) that has this option...
does anyone know the cell broadcast chanell for t-mobile uk?

i have dktoday 1.80 and I don't see such option.

well this blog from msdn says it works...have you added the channel to be able to receive the info from your provider?

Yeah I did read the thread. But dktoday is supposed to slow down the system. Was wondering if there is something else...

I'm using dktoday with Charmer. I have been using that since. I got the unit and it is not slowing down my phone. Charmer and Wizard is relatively the same hardware other than the WiFi and such.
Anywya, dktoday has the option of displaying lines that you need, e.g., it has 3 lines of information, you can have the choice of which line to be displayed. Try that, may speed things up for you.
UPDATE: Ok, I take my words back. dkToday DOES slow your unit down (e.g. the Today screen). Ever since I read this post, I'm trying to 'sense' the effect of dkToday. I had PocketBreeze installed and the 'slow' item on my Today screen is the PBreeze, which I presume it is because it is a heavy item. However, to my surprise, the dkToday seems to be the one causing the PBreeze (probably not just Pb, but all Today plugins). Since I had this program from the first day I had my unit, it doesn't occur to me that it is this that causes the unit to slow down (as many had complain about the slowness of OMAP processor).

Looking for an app - area code

One thing I miss from a "normal" cell phone is when I get a call from a person that is not in my phone it would display the state the call was originating from based on the area code. My Mogul does not do this... when a call is incoming from a non-contact, it just displays the phone number and doesn't tell me the state... are there any settings or apps that I can load that would enable this functionality?

The easiest thing to do would be to Google the area code. I have Google Mobile set as my Internet Explorer home page, so it's easy to just jump to that screen, enter an area code and BAM! the first listing from the search will be the info for that Area Code!

Just go into the phone and type the # (or any # w/ that area code) and it shows you the state in the drop down box

That's what I normally do now, but was hoping to have something that would actually show the state as the call was coming in... I have customers all over the US and they aren't always in my contacts (as they are calling from a "generic" officer # that isn't there direct line)... it's just helpful knowing where the call is coming from as it is incoming.

I've been searching for the same thing, and I have ony found 1, un fortunately you have to pay for it before you can try it. If I don't find anything else soon, I hope it is worth the 14.95. I don't mind paying, but I would like to test it first

Yep, that's basically what I'm looking for... it looks like it just monitors the incoming calls and does a quick lookup.
For the life of me, I can't figure out why M$ didn't include this in the phone to begin with.

You can try CityID (i remember trying it on my 6700)

I'm a little curious as to what happened to the company and program, thier website disappeared and thier program dropped off handango, the day after i bought it.

Mines woking fine, but i didn't get the update, If you could post the updated database, I'll give it a try.
BTW I wanted it to start automatically and run in the background, can't think of why they didn't put this option in the actual program.

phonealarm pro can do this. once you montior the cell, you can link profiles to it and make it set your device config as you like when you come home or at your work, etc. very useful!

CellProfileSwitcher can log any cell's it encounters and also near by ones. It can do more than just profile switching.

I have installed this software on HTC Universal but the prog doesnt recognise any cell. Is this device hardware limitation or I need to find proper version?

you can check the forum and will notice that tytn gsm module is some kind different so it doesn't work.
For this reason all ideas are welcome.
I'm interested would it be posible to store data to a file, if the data is seen at the screen, suppose we enter some code (like get imie), or run program and the required information is showen on the screen...

[APP]Stocker - finger friendly stock tracker

This is a finger friendly stock tracker. You will need CFNET3.5. While not specific to the Diamond, I have not tested this on any other device but my Diamond. Its should work on qvga devices, but I have not tried it yet. Leave suggestions in this thread, as I will monitor it. Play and have fun.

I have only tested it using us market symbols. let me investigate Germany's symbols.

Not sure what the problem would be. My Diamond always has GPRS on, so let me see if I can disconnect it, then run Stocker.

nice idea - i do suggest adding an exit program option to settings.

I have entered different stock symbols, with dot or comma (kat.ca / kat,ca) but its just not able to get any infos from the net... not even the gold price is trackable (xau,co), is it only grabbing wallstreet info?
It would be great if you could implement more markets, is that possible?

Same problem with my Samsung Omnia. Tried german and us symbols. only says N/A...

Been looking for something like this...have any screen prints? Does it track multiple tickers at once, or must enter one ticker at a time? I'm looking for at least 12 tickers to update when requested.

View Details of Stock & deleting stocks
Hi,
I've been using this application for past 2-3weeks and I like it a lot. It gives me instant information about the Indian stocks & markets.
However, I have couple of issues.
1. How can I view the details of the stock? In Softpedia, there are screen shots of the application displaying details like stock graph, day low/high, etc. But, I'm not able to get this screen.
2. I've entered some wrong stock code which I'd like to delete. However, pressing the delete button in the menu does not do anything.

Sharing Ultimate Launch Speed Dial Icons

I made some Ultimate Launch icons for my speed dials page. Most of these were made for specific things I needed so they may not apply. But there are some generic ones which folks may be able to use. Hope these might work for you guys.

Will take a look at these. One question though. I have tried to add speeddial shortcuts in ultimate launch and was unsuccessful. I couldn't figure it out. I tried using VJAY dialer but could not set th parameters to enter a number to dial. How did you set it up?

Heres how I did it. Create a new XP-Icon item in UL. For the command you put \Windows\MakePhoneCall.exe. In the Parameter field you type in the phone number you want that item to dial. This was done on a Sprint Mogul/PPC6800. Its possible its different on others though. Works good on the 6800.

Edit: I didn't have \Windows\MakePhoneCall.exe bu I tried again with Vjay Dialer and now it is working. I don't know what I was doing wrong last time I tried. Maybe it was late. OK, Downloaded you icons and checking them out. Thanks.

I think if you go to the UL site at http://www.ultimatelaunch.de/index_en.html you can go to the Smart Utilities link there and download the SmartUtilities.cab file. In there there is an app called MakeCall.exe. If you still want to do the Speed Dials through UL you can install this and use this for the application to launch in the UL item. I think the smart utilities also includes a bunch of shortcuts which you can use to launch certain things such as system settings and such. Might prove useful to you. I have not installed it myself but it seems like it would work. Let me know how it goes.
