I go ino my comm manager and enable wifi, then it picks up my security enabled linksys router. Which has worked in the past, the only thing thats changed since the last time i actually transfered any data over wifi, was installing my minisd sandisk card, and the .net network.
Whenever i try to hit any website, or check any mail connections setup in my out look i get...
"Cannot Connect
Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings"
Any suggestions?
Are other devices able to access the internet using wifi and this router?
Can you access your router with PIE? http://192.168.1.1
What are your settings in Settings>Connections>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks and Settings>Connections>Network Cards>Network Adapters ?
Try deleting your router entry from the list in
Settings>Connections>Network Cards>Wireless
Then establish a new connection with the router and when prompted choose
This network connects to the The Internet.

I was finally able to go online using the wifi. Where it asks what the network connects to, I had to change it to 'Work' instead of 'The Internet.' The problem is now I can't connect to any internal ip's such as my router or other networked computers. A bubble pops up over the wifi icon on the taskbar telling me I need to change my connection settings. Any ideas how to fix this?
Hi bendog2784!
The internet profile is used together with vpn connection settings and the work is for direct internet connection. The difference is in encryption but access should be the same so perhaps your problem is because of incorrect ip settings.
I have since got it to work. I think a lot of it had to do with the tmobile proxy. Not entirely sure though.
I have a problem with my Cingular 8125.
I can connect to my wep-enabled wireless router at home and get internet access. I can connect to the internet via edge using a cell call. But I can not connect to an open wifi source.
Under Network Managment -- Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using: I setup a connection that I named "wifi only", and under proxy settings I checked "This network connects to the internet".
Under Network Managment -- Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: My ISP
What more do I need to do here to make this thing connect to a simple open wifi source?
Thanks for any suggestions.
First of:
Does the device connect to the 'open WiFi source' (the icon with the antenna and two little arrows appears in the task bar)?
Second are you sure the source is open? Some networks filter devices by MAC address. The network will appear as open but will not let you connect unless your MAC is registered.
Finally try this:
under Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using: select 'My ISP' and select this network connects to: 'the internet'.
I finally gave up and cleared everything (for the third time) and it connects to open wireless networks like it's supposed to. I don't know what the problem was, but it's fine now.
Thanks for the reply.
Hi guys,
I've got a netopia router (Irish "eircom" broadband) and while normal internet connections via laptop or PC (with USB Wifi dongle) work fine I just can't get my XDA Mini S to actually access the internet. I have managed to actually get it to connect via WIFI however when I launch internet explorer and click on a link it says it can't access using this connection.
"Can't connect with current connection settings. To change you connection settings, tap Settings".
Under connections I'm not sure what to select as I don't believe I need to setup a modem connection or VPN - am I wrong here??
It shows "connected" in the WIFI settings, indicating my SSID etc. Could someone advise me on what else I need to set. Basically I'm obtaining an IP address and my laptop etc work fine, just wondering what more I need to do to bash internet explorer into submission on the XDA. Is is just me or are Microsoft making this very hard on the normal user..
Start--> settings -->Wireless Lan
SSID is correct.. i.e my Wireless LAN
Mode : infrastructure
BSSID is set (though I don't know what this indicates)
TX Rate :auto
Channel :7
Start--> settings -->Wireless Lan - Advanced Tab
Status : Associated to Network
MAC number given
IP address given (so I guess DHCP is working fine)
Leap tab and Enroll tab - all settings blank.
------------------------------------------------
Start --> settings --> system --. Network cards
SSID shows Connected
Under Network Adapters tab : My network card connects to the Internet.
Adapter NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver. (not sure what difference this makes????)
I temporarily disabled WEP for the purposes of simplifying things.
Simple yet very annoying problem:
Go to Settings->connections->connections->advanced->network selection and make sure both combos read 'My ISP'.
Then, when connecting to your WiFi network select 'This network connects to the internet' (as I understand you already have this set under 'network adapters' so it should be ok).
THANK YOU!

Thank you so very much I have been look for this forever!!!
thanks so much for the tip too. i've been trying to fix my wifi ever since i upgraded to windows mobile 6 and this did the trick.
ok heres the deal... i have a MDA flashed with the software from att for the 8125 everything works great except when i turn wifi on, i can connect to the network but cant ever get a page to work. does anyone have any suggestions????? please help
Is this happening on any network or your home network?
Check this... go to Settings - Connections - Network Cards. Make sure the WLAN Adapter is set to connect to the internet. Then tap the WLAN Adapter and make sure IP Address is set to Server Assigned then in Name Servers you don't have anything. If any of these is different, change it to the above.
Yeah. I have the same problem. I have wifi pci asus, the signal is good. I have Lan tru router and now bridged connection. I set the ip, mask and gateway which are in the status of the brudge. And the internet explorer and opera wont load pages.?!??! dns isnt set.
The network adapter is sdio wlan.., and the connection is my work network in connection > connections > advanced >select networks.
i use wm6, nbd 8.0
What could be the problem???
it is home network and all other wifi locations
i know there is a problem with secured networks, especially with wpa encryption. try to remove the encryption and see how it goes....
I have removed all encription. I tried preety much everithing and it doesnt work. All other free wifi networks work just fine, i can surf on internet.
what router do you have? i know that i could not connect to a 3com router with the wizard with any rom i tried.
try using a defined ip address and dns, meaning no dhcp. use a real dns addresses and not the default gateway...
I don't know if this is a bug or if it is supposed to be this way, but if I tell the wifi connection to connect to internet I can't access my network shares I have on my computers on the network, but if I choose connect to work then it will work, but the problem is that if I choose work some applications that uses the internet will not work, Marketplace for example. How do I configure Wifi so it can access my home network and at the same time all internet applications will work?
I don't know for sure if this will help but you could try the following:
Start -> Settings -> Menu: All Settings -> Connections -> Connections - Advanced -> Select Networks.
Set your data connection from your provider in both options ("Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using" and "... to a private network should connect using"). Tap OK.
The network you selected should have "This network connects to the internet" checked in it's proxy settings. That way you're telling the phone that you don't have a dedicated work connection . Make sure your WFi connects to the internet as well.
This is how my phone is setup, and everything seems to be working (shares and internet access on LAN via WiFi) just fine. I specified also that "my computer connects to - the internet" in Mobile Device Center -> connection settings...
Maybe this will work? I'm really not sure, just a guess. There is some logic in it, but the Data connection settings shouldn't affect WiFi...
Grtz
