I am looking at the announcements about the 8525 getting released by the end of November and I am contemplating upgrading from my 8125 but I have a few questions?
1. What sort of customized ROMS are out there? On my 8125 I am running an 2.26 by summitter that is fast and reliable. I just upgraded to the 2.47 radio ROM and am very pleased so far.
2. Do tweaks/programs for the 8125 work on the 8525? I am thinking of registry wizard, smartskey, today screen plugins for picture speeddials, etc?
3. Is the added processor speed really worth it?
4. How much of a pain is this silly proprietary headset jack?
5. Anyone know what the roll-out schedule for HSPDA on Cingular is?
6. anything else worth knowing before switching
1. Nothing like that yet, that I have heard of. You could install the HTC ROM, which I've found to suit my purposes best. I've tried the Cingular and iMate ROMs on my TyTN.
2. I don't know.
3. It runs Skype without a problem, but aside from that I don't do a lot of processor-intensive stuff.
4. I don't use headsets or listen to music through earphones on my phone.
5. http://business.cingular.com/businesscenter/built-for-business/network.jsp
6. UTMS coverage seems good in my city, but I constantly drop calls. It sucks.

Sucessfully downloaded and installed the WWE imate ROM on their web site and reinstalled all apps without any problem.
Maybe I am too quick to conclusions, but I noticed NO CHANGE AT ALL!!!
Bluetooth is exactly as before, call quality is unchanged, the *&^%* Jam still cannot send anything by Infrared and worse, the Camera quality is now worse than pre patch!
Overall not a bad upgrade really, just a waste of time and effort!
I finally got all my apps installed as well. Wasn't easy. And to sum it all up, I didn't notice any discernable differences. Sound quality is the same. Stability is the same.
Anyone know what fixes and updates were supposed to be included in the update? Or did anyone find anything at all to be any different?
The only thing I can tell that it did was make my mp3's sound horrible. Very muddy sounding. I'm about to odwnload pocket music and see if the eq on there can fix it. Also looking for a way to downgrade.
Question for you imaters:
I had an imate for 3 weeks and sent it back to Amazon, bought the MDA Compact instead.
T_mobile has no support for this phone : they built correctly the first time
BT Active Sync with PC, no problem, but I never managed this with Imate
BT with GPS, worked with both IMATE & MDA
The MDA rom is stable, has good sound, photo's are ok, like all HTC devices.
So why not just leave Imate and change to the MDA UK Rom??

This makes sense as the operators often do a fair amount of the own device QA, change requests, etc. when they look at any new device. If they don't, they pay for it in customer support. Imate being a relatively new company has yet to prove whether or not it has the same structured approach to their product management. I tell you one thing, Imate will certainly not have the same amount of resources available to them nor will they have as much attention from HTC. That said there is a lot to be said for not being an operator when it comes to efficiency (but that is a different story). Enough editorial...
Does anyone know what the major differences are between the new imate ROM and the current MDA UK ROM? Has anyone used both and/or done a side by side comparison? Does it work on other networks? I'd be interested to hear more.
Ian Wood
I had both
I had both and the major difference lay in the sound and the Bluetooth. Which is why I sent the Imate back.
Besides that, I have had an XDA1, XDA2, and the mda is the most stable rom yet (though the 2003 SE was pretty good on XDA2)
Also price, Imate =389GBP, Amazon, MDA=240GBP, given that it works better, it was a no brainer here.

Is that with regards to stability and quality or are there more features as well? In your estimation, is the difference worth a full reinstall? Thanks for the feedback btw.
Ian
imho the new rom is NOT worth a hard reset and all the reinstalling/reconfiguring/resyncing that goes with it.
to be blunt, I cannot see the difference unless I REALLY go looking for it.
I did the upgrade no problems, and my sound quality is a bit better. (less tinny) I recommend that if you do the upgrade use a quality backup program like sprite backup. I simply restored my previous backup over this upgrade and it went smoothly. I understand a fresh start is also sometimes preferable for for testing and If no problems, then I stick with this. If I start having difficuties then I'll reboot. The reduced hassles makes the 20-30 bucks for sprite backup worth it.

where is the ROM for JAM WWE???
Click here to download the Arabic ma_cdlsku2_arb_10300_141_10100_ship.exe (29 MB) or
Click here to download the Italian ma_cdlsku10_ita_10304_151_10100_ship.exe (26 MB) or
Select HTTP or FTP link to download the USA ROM ma_cdl_10600_150_11000_ship.exe (46 MB)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok my iMate JAM has this under device info:
ROM: 1.03.00 WWE
Radio: 1.01.00
ExtROM: 1.03.143WWE
But looking at the iMate website I cannot see a WWE ROM... can I use the USA ROM or should I wait for the WWE ROM?
Cannot get a ROM
I have tried following the link that everyone has for the ROM at:
ClubIMate . . .
ma_cdlsku1_wwe_10300_143_10100_ship.exe
ma_cdlsku2_arb_10300_141_10100_ship.exe
But I get Page Cannot Be Displayed.
My previous experience with I-Mate, having bought a used JAM, was that I now had to buy a membership and get an ID and Password to get anything.
Does anyone have the file OFF SITE from the club, or does anyone have a password, yada yada?
Barring all that, has anyone built a better ROM than that? Is there a kitchen available for it?
And anyone looking for themes I am selling a collection of mine on eBay and offer to sell 6 for the price of 3 to anyone that references xda-developers . . . I hope you like.

Hello everyone.
I'm seriously considering purchasing a Qtek 9100. I wanted to ask a few questions before I go ahead and I'm hoping someone could help me. I wanted to buy a qtek primarily because of the color (slight darker silver). Is the qtek any different from the O2, K-jam.. and all other versions? I know O2 comes with a preinstalled software interface but are there any other differences? Particularly in processor performance or perhaps resolved bugs?
Question number two is adding a TomTom 5.21 Bluetooth GPS. I do not have much experience with GPS systems and quite frankly I just intend to get the Bluetooth receiver (from TomTom) and perhaps download a copy of the software online (Cracked-torrent [of course for educational purpose ] ). Is this going to work or is it absolutely necessary to purchase the software otherwise the GPS unit will throw me off a cliff. Or is there a better GPS system worth acquiring? (for UK).
Thanks a bunch and I wait eagerly for any help.
Hi,
As far as I know all hardware of the different brands at the same; they all come from the HTC factories. Only software varies. If you are going to use it with an GRPS connection I would advise a branded version (you'll get great value and save some serious bucks) if not the QTEK is the only one that comes without SIM lock. You can swap the ROM as you like, after unlocking they all work with the QTEK, K-JAM or any other rom version as long as it's for a HTC Wizard phone.
As for the TomTom, it'll work, but you still need to purchase TomTom if you want to use it. How else will they improve the software if noone buys and they their cash runs dry? (Board policy )
Only the K-JAM Rom allows you to connect to a WIFI network that uses the G standard, but it'll still be only at 11 mb/s. So that shouldn't be an issue. Localized (non english) versions do have some issues but none of great importance.
Go ahaed, buy one. I don't know anyone that regrets it.
Cheers
Cactus
In my eyes, the most important thing you have to bear in mind is that the Qtek version of the Wizard has one major flaw: the paint of the 'messaging', 'internet explorer' , etc. buttons comes off. I have not only read about this on multiple forums, but a friend of mine has experienced this first hand.
as far as I know, Qtek is the only manufacturer who has tried to save some expenses on 'quality paint'
hehe,
Many wish T-Mobile used QTEK's paint It would have saved a lot of people scrubbing hard with a sugarcube to get the ugly pink ie-like symbol off
By now I know what button is for whitch function, I wouldn't mind....
Thank le cactus
Thank you, le cactus. That's a very enlightening response. I would most definitely buy one soon. I've read quite a bit about the the Wizard and I know it came out under different manufacturer brands. I chose the qtek only because I personally liked the darker design. Its really a personal preference. I also wanted to make sure they didn't differ too much in stability.
I will support TomTom as it is the only right thing to do. Again, I just needed to confirm that it worked following a 'different' approach. Thanks a bunch, mate.
I can't wait to purchase my Wizard as my old nokia 5100 is ready to retire. I can't wait for my new toy.
I'm not too bothered with wifi g as well. I don't expect considerable difference with the Wizard's condervative processor speed. Furthermore, I don't intend to use the device for intensive surfing. I might restrict use to checking emails and occasional surfing when I'm too lazy to get up and use my computer.
Well I finally got the T-Mobile MDA (USA). You know Im pretty surprised. Its actually running pretty smooth, Got Tomtom 5.21 running with an Bluetooth I-Blue GPS got some programs used the WI-FI sync my contacts, play movie clips with smartmovie, played some MP3s, streamed orb thru the WI-FI, the only things havent got to use is the phone it self as my service will be on thursday tommorow. BUt so far Im impressed I dont see it running slow the rom is 1.8.10.2 WWE the radio is 4.0.13.20 and the EXTrom is 1.8.10.104. Anyone with suggestions on what to install in terms of the ROM not that Im not happy with the current ROM but I love to experiment. Gata say that before this I had the Mio 168RS as My GPS/PDA and this seems to be running at the same speed if not faster. Also the keypad program for the phone seems to have small buttons any suggestions for a better one with larger buttons ? Other ways its a great device in my short use opinion.
Hi
Simple Question I think,
I have a Wizard running very well at 286Mhz on WM6
I have the option to Upgrade to a Tytn/Hermes.
I Love to mess about with my phone.
Should I upgrade to the Hermes?
Other than the obvios 3G and Video Call is it a lot faster/better than a well sorted Wizard?
Thanks for your time
Jules
I've noticed a huge increase in speed when multitasking. While driving around and using GPS, for example, Voice Command and call answering speed have greatly increased (my Wizard was o/c'ed to 240).
I was running tomtom6 the other day while listening to an audio book and the phone rang...something like this might mean a dropped call with my Wizard, but I didn't have any issues with the 8525.
The one downside that I've found is that the 8525 (not sure if all Hermes are set up this way) can't have a data connection while the phone is in use.

Yes you can, you just have to be a on 3g network. I do this all the time with my 8525.

I'm almost always in a 3G area when this happens.
Here's an example of my experience;
When I first got my TyTN I connected to my desktop via USB and enabled the modem connection. I then disabled my LAN connection and started playing Counter Strike Source. I was able to play jsu fine with a ping around 60. I then called my friend (while I was still playing) to tell him about this. My ping went to 100 and it was still very playable and there was no skipping. In fact my score was about 10-3 while doing this =)
So in short, data and voice works at the same time quite well. It also works on the device as I get e-mails on a regular basis while eon a phone call.
Later, Lew
ZaJules - you are looking at it from a wrong approach. Since you have been playing with unofficial release of WM6 and overclocked your device, it looks like you are also infected with the same madness as some of us here. It is called The Freak sympthom. Unfortunatelly there ain't no cure available. I have been in the same situation so many times and always found some excuses why I should spend money and upgrade. This is a newer device with new features. You definetly should have it!
So as an Ex Wizard owner I can answer my own question
I took the plunge and upgraded to the Hermes (HTC TyTn)
Off the bat I was pleased to see a major speed boost in general UI related tasks.
Also noticed that the speaker on the back of the Hermes is way louder than the 2 on the wizard. On more than a few occasions I near fell of my chair when the sexy bird bellowed "Master I have mail for you"
I have had to re profile my Phone Alarm settings by dropping the volume by 50%
Also Bluetooth is even better on the TyTn. My SE IV-835 headset seems louder than before. On the Wizard each time I would answer a call the calling party would complain about an ear piercing screech coming from my side as I pressed the call answer button on the headset. That is also gone now.
The only negative aspects of my upgrade are.
I had to get yet another type of memory card and the OS is not as stable as what I was used to on the wizard.
This is where the hard work done by all the "Brains" at XDA shines through
Its only when you are forced to use a Operator released ROM that you realize how poor they are compared to our XDA cooked Roms.
I'm running the latest 2.05 htc ROM and have had a few lock ups. I have also had some crashes with my nav software (HandyMap AI Gold) which I have never had on my previous devices.
The other niggle is with the D-Pad, it is too cramped. I never know when I try to press the enter button whether or not Ill actually get it. Maybe its something I will get used to. On the wizard you could press this button without looking at it but not so on the Hermes. With all the "free space" on the section bellow the screen I wonder why they squished all the buttons so close together.
So all in all I am happy with my upgrade, and once the XDA Roms start to filter through I will be ecstatic about my upgrade
Thanks to all who replied here.
Jules
Screen
Is the screen size and resolution the same on hermes and wizard.
I am thinking of upgrading
Yes the screen is identical.
Its a good upgrade imho

Hi all,
Please go easy on me here, as I have some probably pretty basic questions. I have been digging around the internet (mostly these forums) for the past two days since I got my new Mogul from Sprint running WM6. I had the PPC-6700 prior to this (as I expect most of you had) and I was fairly good at tinkering on that one, but I'm on new ground here with WM6 and a new phone.
First, I am a little confused by all the names.
For sure, I know that this phone can be called the Titan, the Mogul, or the PPC-6800. What I'm not sure of is that some people also call this the Hermes or the TyTn. I figured Titan and TyTn were the same things, but apparently not.
The main reason I'm asking is so that when I am looking for information and posts on this phone, which can I use and which should I disregard. It seems that many of the things posted under the Hermes forum are valid for the Mogul as well, but alas..I'm confused.
Once we get names settled, I'm going to start with only one other question that I have dire need for. I have looked around for answers and most are many months old, so I have to think that there are some more recent findings. My question regards Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 with a BT headset on this phone.
I have installed MS VC 1.6 and paired my new Cardo Scala 800 headset. It seems to work with the following problems:
1) BT quality is not great, including VC voice getting cut off. This is my first BT headset with this phone, and I have read that many people have poor BT quality with this phone. If that's the case, can anyone recommend a BT headset that works well with this phone (preferablly one that charges directly via mini-USB).
2) Confirmation don't work - based on what I have read this is a problem with all WM6 phones with VC 1.6. It appears the only solution is to disable confirmations completely. I have done this and it appears to be able to function. I just want to confirm that there isn't any newer data out there for this issue.
3) Last issue is that I don't get notifications. Meaning, when an incoming call comes in I get the ringing sound, but it doesn't tell me the name. In my searches I came across this posting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316881&page=51
It is for the Hermes (again..confused) but contains a zip file with 4 files to copy over the default VC files. When I did this and reset my phone, notifications seem to work. I want to make sure that this is the best way to get VC 1.6 working as fully as possible on this phone.
I really appreciate any feedback you can give.... I have a few more questions, but I'll wait till we get these squared away.
Thanks to all!
Well, I've not been a Mogul owner for much longer than you, and certainly have been a PPC owner less (this is my first PPC), however let me try to answer a few of your questions.
First, the "Sprint Mogul" is Sprint's name for this phone. The phone "codename" of sorts is the Titan, and model is the PPC-6800. Hopefully I got that all right. Bottom line, they all refer to the same phone. Also, different cell companies have different names for phones, so it can get a little confusing sometimes.
Now the TyTN is the same device as the Hermes, aka the 8525. From what I've gathered in my short experience, this is basically the same same phone as the Titan, however, it's the AT&T GSM version. Where we have CDMA and EVDO, it has GSM and HSDPA.
The files get tricky too, and you have to know your way around the system before you try replacing files from other phones. A lot of files (and issues) are general for WM6. That means that any device running WM6 may have these same files, behaviors, or issues. However, with that said, certain files are specific to the network. Some of the things like dialers are coded for GSM on one phone, and CDMA on another. So if you think it might have anything to do with the network, double check before you replace it from another phone that's on a different network. In your case, the voice command thing is general to WM6, so grabbing the files from the Hermes was ok.
The bluetooth? Well, that's a question a lot of us still have. The bluetooth on these phones suck. I've heard a lot of people say it's HTC's fault, and I've also heard a few people say WM6 just isn't good with BT anyway. I personally haven't gotten into what's wrong with it much yet, so I can't tell you exactly the issues, but we can only hope for a firmware and/or software update in the future that will help these problems.
I know that if you look around, I've seen lists where people have listed which BT headsets seem to work well, and which don't. The only I have, and thus have tested, is a Jawbone, and I can report, as well as tell you from reading, it's one of the better BT headsets for this phone. It's a little expensive though, so it's not in everyone's price range. Unfortunately I can't help much past that since I've never used any other, but if you search you can probably find threads like I mentioned and just get feedback from other people.
Also, I've never played with Voice Command, so I can't answer any more specific questions on that subject. Hopefully I helped clear a few things up. As I said, I'm definitely still learning myself, but I've been taking in all kinds of information. I love this phone and don't see how I've survived without a PocketPC before.
Ajerman,
Thanks for your input. Ok that makes sense regarding the AT&T GSM version. I think most of what I will want to tweak will be related to WM6 and not carriers.
Unfortunately my Cardo 800 BT headset is my first headset too, and this is the first time I'm using it with the phone. So, I too don't have anything to gauge it against. I'm probably going to return the headset however as it was advertised as having a mini-usb charging jack, when infact it has a micro-usb. I saw the jawbone, looks nice, but again, I only want a headset that uses a mini-usb jack (too many adapters to carry around).
My next questions (hopefully someone can address), is unlocking the Extended ROM for customization. I did this on the PPC-6700 WM5 with an Extended rom unlocker tool and modified the config.txt in there to automatically install certain apps upon hard-reset.
I need to assist the mobile admins at my company with setting everyone's phone up with some additional settings en masse.
Is it safe to use the same procedures on WM6? I'm probably going to try it anyway but thought someone could point me to a good primer on upgrading my skills from WM5 to WM6.
Any more input is valued!
thanks
