Beep on pressing "End Call" button - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

This is a minor annoyance, but its forcing me down the root of a hard reset to get rid of it.
Not sure when it started, I think after I tried Phonealarm and removed it, but not sure. However, for the last week every time I press the red "End Call" button I get a tinny beep sound. I suppose its good it confirms I have ended the call but its driving me nuts and I would like to remove it.
Does anyone know how this can be done (reg etc) without having to hard reset my device?

You can silence it by switching the keypad sound off. (Phone/Tools/Options/Keypad: Off) But this will silence the entire keypad though, obviously.

Thanks. Yes I tried that but as you say is silences all. Looks like a hard reset / rebuild

thanks for posting it, don't have the problem but if I get it in the future I'll know where to look
when removing programs try to remove them from activesync, it cleans up some of the mess a phone uninstall would leave behind.

Many thanks, that had bugged me as well, I can't tie it down, though I think it started when I unlocked the sim and installed the new radio as part of the unlocking process.

beginner at this
Thanks for posting the solution, but as a beginner, how do i find this to remove it?
Appreciated once again!

Sorry If I am sounding like a noob. I'm having the same problem with the annoying beep when I press the End button.
Am I supposed to delete the "Ending" Folder? When I remove the contents of the "Sound" key inside the Ending folder and reboot, the sound is still there.
Thanks

Mike,
Thanks. Worked like a charm. This just randomly started one day. Same thing happened to my 8125 several months ago. Do you have any idea what causes this to start?
Thanks,
Phil

Pleased it worked As to a reason, it was probably some application or other, but tracking that down could be a lifes work. Sometimes you come across the answer just by accident. To put it scientifically, it's just one of those things

TWO SIMPLE QUESTIONS ABOUT XDA EXEC PROBLEMS

Since installing the latest O2 ROM upgrade I found two problems:
1. Alarms and timers (chronos, spb time) don't wake up the machine. I need this feature and this a major problem for me, surely must be also an issue for others.
2. I don't want the battery icon on the top bar, I want just the clock.
Does anyone knows a trick to change for the better any of those, please?
Thanks, Gonz
1) u can install 3rd party Alarm Softwares.
2) search the forum, there is a solution

Really?
Care to post a link? Everything I've read says there is no solution yet.
Look in your startup folder, there is a file that activates the battery icon (I can't rremember what it is called and I don't have it anymore, but I seem to remember it's obvious when you see it).
Delete it (or copy to another safe location) and your battery icon will no longer appear.
OK, it seems my problems are not so simple to solve, after all.
These are the files in my startup folder:
sddaemon, services, theme refresh and voice command.
Could you tell me which one to delete to get rid of the battery icon please?
Uhm…, and what about the problem of timers and alarms failing to wake up the device? Do we have to use the dull Microsoft application?
Thanks

hdubli,
I do have lots of third party software for this purpose and they all fail with the exec wm5, something that did not happen on my xda 2i with any of them.
If you please care to be more explicit with the solutions, I am sure several here would appreciate it.
Thanks, gonz
Alarm
For your alarm problem, check out pTravelAlarm
http://www.burroak.on.ca/wm2005.html
You are looking for version 2.6.0, which is for WM5 - their site claims that it's a trial version, but I've found it to be faultless, even after applying latest O2 ROM.
It's not free and I can't promise it'll work for you, but it's worth a shot.
If I can't leave my Exec plugged into mains overnight, I disable the "Turn device off after..." in Power Settings and it hasn't failed to wake me up yet.
Its volume control isn't linked to your device's, and it's loud enough to put the fear of God in you...[/code]
I am having a similar problem. What you guys dont seem to understand, is, even if there was a $1000 3rd party alarm software, it will be of no use when the phone refuses to wake up.
The problem we have is not of the alarm software, but the simple problem of the phone not waking up, e.g. from standby to ON.
Can someone shed some light on this issue.
Thank You
This forum has not resolved the issue of the battery, hunders if not thousands of people are awaiting some miraculous fix for this. the only thing I know to work is using wizbar to reskin the title bar.
in relation to alarms, sorry, i know the wm5 is a problem. though, the inbuilt alarms that i have used on the device do wake the device up.
the other thing you can try is, dont turn it off, dont allow the system to turn it off after a period of time, and just close the device without turning off.
it will drain a little bit more power, i think approximately 15% over the night than what it would otherwise draing, but if it is plugged in, then it wont drain at all and will ensure the device wakes up.
thanks, it is probably rom related since u report that your device does wake up. Can you tell me what rom version u are using? Thanks

Many thanks, I did try not to switch it off and it works!, even the timers!
my rom is in my signature, unlike yours.
what i was saying was it wakes it up from its sleep, but not its off state.
just closing the clam was sufficient to preserve battery, especially given that at night its always charged. even during the day, i rarely turn it off. i just close the device and let it rest....
Why is the "turn off device if not used for" alway
Does anybody know how to prevent the system from ticking this box every time?
My machine does it on its own, yes, it does, sometimes even after changing from landscaping view to normal.
So, the advice of not turning it off to make the alarms work is OK, but needs constant rechecking that the box remains unticked!!
Thanks,

I would look at your other software that may be enforcing this as it has never happened to me, nor have I read about it.

If you mean Windows\Startup, I have sddaemon, O2 UI Refresh and poutlook.
I have moved them all out (startup folder is empty) and still no luck.

My suggestion unrelated to your problem is to keep "sddaemon.lnk" out of the "start up" folder. If you haven't noticed yet, if you keep sddaemon on the start up folder, after performing a soft reset this file is duplicated under "Notifications" taking up your precious memory and slowing down your machine. You can check it if you have a program that cleans your Notification Que such as "Scary Bear's Check Notification" (freeware).
For the alarm one, does anyone tried using PocketWakeup? The original one is in French, but there is an English version too. Google for it and see if it works on the universal.

Can't think of anything in my PDA that will have that need or ability, it is not an option I've noticed in any program before, but thanks anyway. I'll search around, there must be a solution somewhere

you could try reflashing your rom as you are on the older version.

Spurious Reminder noises on soft reset

Hi Guys,
I'm having a love-hate relationship with my 3-week-old HTC Hermes.
Everything's OK except that I get a flurry of spurious reminders/vibrates over a 5 minute period when I soft reset the device (which I have been doing a lot while testing software).
I know that, historically, alarms and reminders on 'Pocket PC' devices have been a bit dodgy but this takes the biscuit! I have tried clearing dupes using the Scarybear utilities but this has not made a difference.
When the phone vibrates/pings, there's no pop-ups/messages to clear so it's not possible to tell what has invoked the reminder.
Apart from a hard reset, any ideas?
Thanks
linker3000
Did you ever get an answer to this one? - I'm having the same problem.
J
Me too! I had to do a hard reset!!!
I have this too. Sometimes checking for dupes with Memmaid helps. What's strange is that if you leave it for 10 mins it magically stops...
I always get it, and it always stops after about 10minutes. it started after i was trying to get the worthless alarm clock to work. I installed SBD Alarm (or whatever its called) and then realised that didnt work, so i removed it. never been right since.
SK Tools solved my problem:
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html
Good luck.
J
Alarms..
Someone has already mentioned memmaid, but only for checking for duplicates.
You can actually look at the notification queue and see if there are any notifications that are for programs that you have uninstalled.
Don't just delete all the notifications - or anything like that.. as it can stop things working.

what did you do? to solve it? install it (obviously), then what?
I ran the reg clean up and it disappeared after that.

aftzer reboot, no reminder sounds :-(

after I soft-reset my XDA, all dates and reminders don't sound anymore.
I checked the sound settings and files. Everything is set up. Even another reboot didn't work. Probably a ROM failure? Or just a REG. setting ?

ROMS don't fail - they either install and work or they don't - so it won't be that. You got sound for other things? (new sms etc.).
well yes. that's the strange thing about it. All other sounds work just fine.
Maybe a startup routine is defect?
I wonder if there is a REG entry for reminders.
There is a reg entry under HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications\{1511F90......
It isn't actually {1511F90...... that's just what it starts with.
This entry seems to indicate what file to play (maybe the file is corrupt? Have you tried a different sound for reminders?)
There are a few other registry entries for 'reminder' but I'm not sure they are relevant.
crazy - I swear to god I didn't do ANYTHING.
But suddenly it works again. Everything sounds as it supposed to be.
Now give me an explanation to THAT
not sure if this is your issue but...
i had this issue, I wasnt getting reminder sounds, or the pop up bubble, and i dont remember where i found this solution, but im pretty sure its a common one. I dont know why this works, but it does
start/settings/system/clocks and alarms
switch your time to "visiting, hit ok and exit the clocks and alarms settings.
then open it again, switch back to "home" time, and viola!
I dont know why this works, but it does, and it usually sticks for quite a while, though i do occasionally have to do it again which is still unacceptable in my book, but I have yet to find a better solution than this.
cool. thanx for the tip. I'll check it out when it happens again.
cheers mate

Email Problem

Hi, I only recently had this problem. Basically when im on the HTC Sense menu, if I go to email I can browse the emails flicking up and down however, when I press an email to open it nothing happens. You can see the press action but the email doesnt open instead I have to go to inbox and open that way.
Anyway else experienced this?
Thanks
I experienced the same thing on my hd 2. must have been after the installation of some thing. the problem is u can never know what caused it. anyways I had to hard reset as I couldn't stand feeling something is wrong . after owning the hd2 since oct, I really believed they rushed its release.
Hey thanks for the reply. I just ended up doing a hard reset, think you might be right i've hadd to hard reset a few times now because of problems I have had !!

Yeah I get this sometimes, theres a quicker and easier way to get it working (until it happens again of course, but this doesnt tend to happen again until youve hard reset)
Tap the windows tab at the top left of the screen so you get to the program files, then on the bottom left of the screen, tap "lock"
Now just unlock the phone and the problem will be gone
TouchPal Pro
On my case, the same problem occurs after I uninstall TouchPal Pro. The "Windows-Lock" cycle solve this issue.

"All Settings" link in Sense, where does it point?

Hi All,
Very weird one this, I hard reset due to installing that virus (3d shoot 'em up thing here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=650393 ) and have come across a strange issue within Sense.
When I press "Settings" in the start menu (or slide across to it within Sense) I get the HTC settings menu, so far so good.
When I press "All Settings" under 'Menu' it opens the 'Connections' window, not the standard Windows settings, if I close the 'Connections' window, it returns me to the HTC settings menu.
Anyone know where I might be able to change the link, or at least find what the 'Connections' link is, so I may track it down please?
sorry. didn't fully read your post.

No problem.
I've managed to display the "All Settings" icon, albeit from within the Start Menu using the registry:
hklm -> security -> shell -> startinfo - change the "hidesettings" to 0.
I've found from the above, that "cplmain.cpl,19" seems to reference 'Connections', so pointing my search toward that at the moment.
Unless anyone else has any assistance?
Just noticed your post and having suffered also at the hands of the 3d terrorist bastards I thought I'd check mine......guess what.......all settings displays just fine, everythings there and opens up, trying to get out of it though is a different story, pressing "ok" just causes a pause, screen flicker and then same settings screen to reload.
Another problem I'm having since that virus is neither the htc music player or windows media player work at all.
ringtone doesnt play either.
Is that another hard reset I hear approaching?

These stories are tragic disappointments... I cannot believe everything that has surfaced from this TROJAN program. It's unbelievable... because here we thought that such a thing would NEVER happen to any of us.
I think more attention should be paid towards this issue... it's a rather SERIOUS inconvenience for a lot of people.
Hmmm not had any issues with this trojan other than it dialling out, although I did switch off the phone as it was half way through it's hilarious attempt at pissing me off. Media player is fine, sms is fine, email fine, rss reader, shares, weather, in fact the phone is now running better than ever
One things for sure, I reckon open market will be hit hard by this, once bitten twice shy so to speak.

I've learnt a hell of a lot about the registry on this thing that I wouldn't have gone near otherwise!
