Doesn't sound good mate!! My guess is that the person who sold you the phone has done an insurance job on his! Hence why it worked fine for a while. And as soon as he's reported it they've blocked the phone you bought!! Can't advise you on a completly safe way to buy a secondhand one.

there should be some change of ownership number like dell lap tops have. Is there any way of geting this phone back up and runing.thanks

For now I will advice U to sell it to other country via ebay and buy a new one not blacklisted in U motherland

IMEI issue on a USA T-mobile MDA

Hi,
I just bought a MDA off ebay and the phone works great!
BUT the problem is IMEI numbers dont match ANYWHERE!!
Box, Back of phone and *#06# They are 3 different #'s
I can still make and recieve calls and go on the net.. phones works properly.
Is there anyway some1 could have changed the IMEI? Or is there a Rom flash that could have done this?
OR could a Unlock have altered the IMEI?
And is there a way i can change the IMEI to the same one as the one on the back of my phone?
The Seller has agreed to refund my money, but I want to exercise all my options b4 I return it. Bc the price was actually great!
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in Adv!
Brit.
PS i did search for this issue and did come accross some good threads, but there was alot of "THIS IS ILLEGAL" i know this so please post somthing meaningful...
Your best bet is to get your money back. At best the phone was serviced and the guts placed inside the wrong case by accident (which would explain 3 different IMEI) but at worst there could be something hinky in the phone's history that will come back to bite you as the current owner.
I wouldn't worry about it.
1) The phone works
2) You know the phone's actual IMEI
That's all there is to it. Don't worry about it.
both of you bring up a good point.
I am leaning towards keeping theh thing b/c of the price i paid for it b/c of a mislabeling of the auction. It was a super low price..
I will check to see if the guts were changed, there probably will be a sign if the casing was opened.
Can you give signs to look for tampering?
Second, I read were some1's IMEI changed b.c of a Unlock could this have happend to my MDA?
Thanks for you replies agian!
HTC (or T-Mobile Warranty) might me able to confirm if any (or all) of the IMEIs you have are from serviced phones.
As for the Unlock changing the IMEI, I know one user reported it but I seriously the validity of their story.
I've CID unlocked 5 HTC Phones (3 BlueAngels, 2 Wizards) and SIM unlocked them also with the IMEI never being changed.
Just remember though, if there is something hinky and the phone is hot you can lose the phone and never see your money.
I would imagine that if the phone was put up for sale, sold, shipped, turned on and found to work and it is hot, the heat has probably cooled considerably. Or, in other words, if it was going to be banned by the network, I would think it would have already happened. As far as unlocking changing the IMEI, I second the above. Few things are impossible but a simple unlocking changing the IMEI has to be close. If it was my phone, I'd first look for some obvious sign of tampering. Crooks aren't very smart (they are crooks, after all) so it shouldn't be hard to find. If nothing jumped out at me, I'd shrug my shoulders and call it mine.
Cool, I will call HTC.
I just called Tmobile and they said that they dont BAN phones, they just ban simcards. but I doubt they would admit the truth.
the phone working is a Positive sign to me.
But I will call HTC and confirm. ALSO I will Call Paypal and see if i have any kind of warranty to buying a stolen item.
if all else fails i will return the phone to the seller.
Brittany
the IMEI should look exactly like the IMEI on the back of the phone rite? not shorter or longer?
i will reverify if its' shorter or something. b/c i read some where about a 17 and 15 digits are needed.
ALSO say if my MDA was stock right out of the box would the phone have these 4 lines on the top left corner in red with some numbers and stuff.. possibly rom info and model info?
Usually the stickers with IMEI numbers are difficult to forge since it requires a special paper (Nokia at least) and a special kind of file.
Although the theory of mixing boards, cases and boxes is very plausible there's still the chance that the IMEI on the back of the phone is the hot one. You can always try to change back to it (but taking note of the one stored presently in ROM for future use) and see if it gets barred/blocked or you get a visit from the authorities  In any case, this forum's posts could help to prove your innocence in court (just kidding  )
As for the procedures to achieve it, get back to me via PM
cheers
Well i took it to a local Tmobile store and they exchanged the phone for me. WOOT! WOOT! this was a pure sealed one. so prob solved.. now i just have to do a CID and Sim Unlock and upgrade to the latest rom.
Any recomms? i will try to do my NEWBIE duties and search and learn, if anyone wants to make it easy for me. well hooka sista up!..lol
Brit
Wow! Not bad! If the 2.26 ROM is already on it (I got a new one a couple days ago on warrantee and that was the case), you may want to think twice before changing that. I've been real happy with 2.26 and it's gotten to where the ONLY thing I bother changing in the registry is the glyphcache and menu settings and I uninstall OZ, the DAT MailTrigger thing and the Hotspot login utility. And...bonus time....you don't void the warrantee that mayb prove handy in the future.
Moral of the story.. get 3 old phone, inter change their IMEI (e.g. stickers and box) .. go to different local store to get 3 new phones
So last night i did
1. Sim Unlock
2. CID Unlock
3. installed AIM (wifi friendly)
4. Upgraded the rom to 2.26
5. installed Agile Msnger beta verson
phone's running like butter! Thou after i installed AIM phone RAN really sluggish! but i think it was b/c i put my orig sim card with 150 entirees.
so i rebooted charged the phone to 100% and did the rom upgrade from Tmobile's webiste..
the phone runs like a charm now.. I just need to find a good Instant Messenger software, wiht profile and away msg so my friends to hit me up with a huge txt msg bill..
I came, i read, i learned, i conquered the mda!

SIM CARD Stuck inside AMEO! help

I have been having a battle with T Mobile ever since the day i got my ameo. I was having a problem getting the sim to register so after looking at the little picture of the simcard with the arrow under it I gently pushed it down a bit thinking it may 'Click' in like a memory card.
Unfortunately the simcard just kept moving and literally slid past the reader directly into the phone! and could not be removed. All you could see is the top edge at the bottom.
T mobile have said it was MY fault and voided my warranty but surely NO PHONE should allow this to happen.
A private phone repair shop has removed the simcard and said that nothing was broken inside the phone so therefore there was nothing in place to stop this happening.
I phoned HTC and the guy said that he could not push a simcard into the phone when he tried.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Has anyone got any advice on what i should do?
Its so annoying surely it is a manufacturing error to allow a card to go into a phone!
My first Ameo wouldnt recognise any sim. I returned it and got a replacement.
If the sim is out of the phone now and its working (ie, you can put it in so it works) dont worry. If it still wont work, just report it (but dont mention it going inside) as a broken phone, DOA. They will replace if its brand new, they HAVE to directly replace it up to 14 days after purchase.
this all happened 30 days ago!
the phone has been to tmobiles repair people and to this private firm who have removed it.
its a long long story
i dont want anyone to mess up their phone but i would like to know if anyone can push their simcard past the sim reader.
I am going to argue that it is a manufacturing error not my fault as the HTC tech person said his ameo/advantage would not allow this to happen.
IMHO The Simcard holder is absolutely awful in the Ameo. Its not entirely obvious the first time which way in it should go and I found that it will take a card the wrong way (upside down). And once its in, its pretty darn hard to remove it again. Just glad I've not had these issues.
First - if the problem happened in the first 14 days (never mind how long ago that is now), T-Mob should replace it. I have found you have to argue with them but eventually they give up.
If not, did you not get the T-Mobile insurance? If so, make a claim for accidental damage?
i didnt take out insurance, so i guess i will have to argue my case.
i should get it back today so i will take it from there.
my missus even offered to join TMOBILE so i could get another phone as my bday present! but thats gonna b a last resort.
Basically the phone should not allow this to happen IMO

I agree - and it is an odd design (as is the flap which covers the relevant slots). Good luck.
well looks i have have had a result!
I got it back to day and its now working , however its a bit scratched
Tmobile are going to replace the handset!
Glad to hear they are finally doing the right thing. I was going to say, persist.
But its sorted now, so you can finally relax and enjoy your phone.
cheers for that chaps i was getting a bit stressed about it all!
i have been streaming live Tv via ORB on my high speed unlimited connection , SUPERB!

bypass startup password

I recently bought a phone off of ebay so i could swap out my bad board with its good board. Everything went fine but apparently he had a password on his phone. Is there any way to get around this so I can unlock the phone for use with my service?
First things first, contact the seller and ask. I don't want you to take offence, but when people ask for phone passwords on forums, it seems a bit 'dodgy'.
I have contacted the seller and he said he bought it at a flea market or something so no go there. the auction is here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=120148658908&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=002 so you can see I didnt steal it or anything I just needed a new main board and im SOL until i find a way to get around the password screen
Wow, must have been nice to win that for $.16. I usually agree with delude on the bypassing the password thing and won't usually tell anyone how to do it.
Instead of putting it on here how to do it I sent you a PM with the instructions.

IMEI problems

Ok so before flaming about "man its illegal" or such, just listen my story.
I bought a HTC magic like 6 months ago from someone who bring the phone with him from england. As long as i live in Turkey, i asked him about "i wont buy it if it is not registered else it ll be shutted down in no time" He told me that i am right, thats why he registered the phone, and we checked the official IMEI registration check site "http://imei.tk.gov.tr/sorgu/imeisorgu.php" and it was written "registered IMEI".
Well after 5 months even a bit more, the system decided to drop the registration (seriously i dont understand why they do such thing), and now when i check it, it says "unregistered device".
I called the imei registration office, they told me that they found some documents are missing and had to sended again to them (which is quite lie probably) thats why they unregistered my imei. Well, if the documents are missing why the **** on earth they registered the phone once? Something is really fishy here. I really dont know what are they trying to do but there is only 1 thing coming to my mind that its just to cut off the second hand phones and make the people buy new phones to make the dealers win more money. This is a really sick idea with a very ****ty way to force it to the end user.
Now, i have no chance to find the seller to make him resend the papers to them for registering my phone ONCE again.
So, i decide to change my IMEI, and i wanna use the IMEI of the old nokia 6600 which is registered ofcourse.
So now please tell me is this wrong what i wanna do now? I bought a registered phone, one day they decided to unregister it by themselves, and now i got a blocked phone.
Thanks to Turkey's retarded laws and orders, all i wanna do is to use my nokia's imei on my sapphire 32b. This is not thief or such i think.
Now anyone can help about it? i digged a lot about imei change, i found imei change for many other models, but not for my phone. And as long as i see, changing imei means stolen phone in your countries, thats why no one wanna talk about it.
Well guys, in this earth there are some other possibilities about that imei stuff, mine is one of the exemple. Please stop thinking about "imei change = thief" idea if the subject is Turkey.
Thanks a lot.

Noooooooooooooo

im in a trip at miami
i took a cab to this club at night and my phone slipped out of my pocket in the cab, before i realized anything the cab drove off and then my phone was missing, i called it and a girl picked up and said she had it, so i took another cab to go meet her wherever she said she was but she wasnt there, i kept calling hte phone all night and it was ringing till about 3am when i stopped trying in order to get some sleep. i woke up now and im calling and its going straight to voicemail. that means she turned the phone off or took the sim out. the phone was at around 80% battery when i lost it with wifi and everything off so it would ahve lasted the whole night
so my phone is gone!! im wondering what i can do? im with rogers in canada, is there an insurance or lost phone insurance policy that i can bring up? or is there a way they can lock that phone's usage abilities through the VIN number?
Phone rogers and get tell them its stolen. They will ban the ime so it can't be used with any sim.
Use wavesecure in the future. It can lock, track and wipe your phone remotely. Sorry about your bad luck!
If you want it that bad you can go to the police and they can find it next time when someone turns it on.Or the service provider can lock it somehow and make it useless.

Thats what i did when my last phone was stolen from me, go to the police, they will make all your country carriers search for its imei in their network and they are able to locate it too.
I got my phone after 3 months thought. :-(
sent from my x10i that is banging for a 2.1 upgrade. ...
Sorry to hear about your phone dude how unfortunate. Like instigator008, you should call Rogers and tell them about your phone. Did you have your IMEI no. written down somewhere? cuz if you do I'm sure Rogers can lock the phone from anywhere within Canada. They might be able to track your phone too with the IMEI no. but I suggest next time you use a security app that tracks down your phone and locks it down as well. There's a couple of good ones but I'm not sure which. This reminds me I should do it myself too lol. Good luck buddy, and hope you get your phone back soon.
i lost my older 5800xm in a cab too, but im my case the cab driver called the contacts thqt r obvious to me "mom" "dad" and dropped it off himself, i gave him $50 and the phone itself
I am afraid Rogers will not block the IMEI, they do not do that at all unless it was stolen from one of thier locations. Silly I know. There is a lost/stolen program in place just call and see what they can do for you.. also if bough on a credit card there maybe something that can help you. Home insurance may also help.
