Don't know if this has been posted yet or not (I went 3 pages back and saw nothing) but the problem with the screen alignment is that there is a sponge pressing against the digitizer.
You'll have to open your device and remove this sponge strip and the screen alignment issue will be gone.
If you have warranty on your device, it is suggested that you get it repaired through your warrant, but if your a DIY person, then go ahead and do it (opening your device will void yoru warranty).
Since i don't have a TyTn myself, i can't do a step by step guide but check this link out, there are some pictures of the process.
If this process indeed fixed the issue, then it's good to know!
Anyone here has tried it ?
I am still waiting my MDA Vario II !

I have posted elsewhere on this board my solution - which is similar but whilst I removed the gasket I replaced it with a thicker one and firmed up the retaining clips on back of screen. Mine is still fine, but there is a lot of trial and error involved with these solutions. One site I saw was similar to the solution above - a japanese site where he found just taking out the original seal and not replacing it with anything made the problem even worse!
To be honest my personal view is (even though I did my own fix) is get it fixed/replaced under warranty. Slack keyboard maybe a different matter as the fix is rather more certain, but again if you dismantle a device to fix a slack keyboard and you did not have an alignment problem - beware the dismantling may create an alignment problem!!
Mike
What is the fix for a slack keyboard? At least half of my keys don't register after the "click".

Sorry when I say slack keyboard I'm not refering to the missing keys or hard press issues but to the loose sliding and clicking into place mechanism of the keyboard.

I don't know why this setting can solve this problem (May be).
Go to
start > Setting > Connection > USB to PC
Step:
1. Uncheck USB to PC
2. Start > Setting > System > Screeen > Calibration the Alignment of Screen
3. Soft Reset.
My friend also use CHT9000 (Taiwan Version) and told me this method. After the above mentioned adjustment, not alignment problem up to this moment.
I also use this method. 2 days gone, no alignment problem was found. I will keep to update this post in the future.
Hope it can help.

There is a thread or two about this on the general side or somewhere.
"Search" will work fine.
I tought it is working but not.
I have contacted with the local HTC/QTEK partner.
Waiting for the official solution.

Joe
I think that I may have a proper fix. my alignment seemed to be fixed by a rom upgrade but has been getting prgressively worse for a few days. Last night I tried something hardware based. I will test this for two days before I will say what it is but I have had no misalignment issue in the few hours since I did it.
Phil
could you post what you did so even if it doesnt work, we would know?

Ok it hasn't shifted at all today!
I was going to open it up to have a look at the rubber gasket that was mentioned in another post but chickened out!
Optional but probably a good idea; turn off and remove the battery.
1) Slide keyboard out and turn face down.
2) There are 2 tiny screws on the back of the screen that need to be undone. They have thread lock on them so a small crack will be heard as it releases.
3) Once the screws are out a further small crack noise may be heard. That'll be the tension being taken off the screen!
4) Put the screws back in and tighten (or should that be TyTN?). Do not over tighten these as it is only plastic.
5) If necessary realign the screen (hopefully for the last time)
As kind of proof that this has worked, this post was made from my v1605 on hsdpa while I was talking on the phone using bluetooth and got very hot and didn't need any realigning!
Hope it works for others!
Phil
I have the O2 Trion and my screen will be slight misaligned at the right side (cant use the vert scroll bar) . Is this exactly your problem ?
Does your problem happened again, if not could you post some pic/steps on how you did it ?
Thanks

as long as there is no excessive used here, that is what you mean right?

You're correct. Before I did this one screw was clearly at an angle and afterwards it was straight.
If anyone else has success let me know and I'll try to get some photos and do a how-to on the wiki.

i tried this out for my friend and he claims that while it did fix the alignment problem on the right side, sometimes the screen becomes slightly misaligned. could be that i tightened a bit too hard so will look into this.

When I did it for my friend, he claims that the screen, while does not have as serious an alignment problem as before, still has it. Its not that bad.
He notices that the problem usually comes after making a call. No matter how long the call (whether for 1 min or 40 mins), the screen will be slightly mis-aligned and needs to be re-aligned. Things like pressing the 'ENTER' button on the phone pad does not work unless he presses a certain part of the button.
Any advice for him?
low45,
I undone the 2 screws but hear no click or crack and return it back not so tight... is that the correct way... I will monitor mine, since it only happening once a day..
Though I do not hv one but I can inform that it is the bad quality of work..this has been happening to all the recent G4 Wizards and Prophets with SZ series serial number.
I think thehardware design has gone wrong..
Pls check yr serial number..if they start from HT or SZ
i think all the HTC Hermes manufactured are of the HT version
screw no help
ok... after a day.. it happened again...
I just hard reset and did not load the extROM last night... let see ..
me i go back to change it
i have HT630xxxx and no probleme
I've had my 8525 for about 3 months, and now it constantly clicks the upper right hand corner and exits all of my programs! I'll soft-reset and sometimes it wont boot up, it just hangs at the windows logo screen. I upgraded the ROM to the newest from Cingular thinking it was some program that was doing it, but it comes back.
When it's in portrait mode, it's the upper right hand corner. When it's in landscape, it clicks the start button(upper left) so I dont think its a program thats making it click, but something physical touching that certain spot. Anyone have any idea?! I thought something was stuck in there but it's clean.. this is so annoying, I cant even make a call since it clicks exit when it comes up! It stops SOMETIMES for a few minutes but then it comes back after a while.. anyone else?
Give it a yung choo kung foo whack, take a run-up.
...
Sounds knackered, you could try the screen alignment fix, pressure from the gasket may be causing this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=How to fix the Screen Aligment issue
Your best bet is to send it back for repair though .
I bought it off ebay.. so no warranty
It's weird because I take a very slim credit card( 1/2 the thickness as regular cards) and slide it in and bring up the plastic around the screen and it STILL does it!! nothing is touching the screen at all. Also, my alignment is still spot on perfect.. what gives?
Oh yeah, I did smack it a few times and it works sometimes.. It's been okay right now for about an hour but I know it's going to be short lived..
Did you try loosening the screws?

Yours is the third or forth report of that error. My Trion had the exact same problem, and I needed to exchange it (bought it new from O2, so it was under warranty).
None of the screen alignment fixes I tried made any difference. The problem was also temperature dependent - when the Trion was cold, everything was okay. Leaving backlight on and listening to MP3s for five minutes was enough to make the problem appear - first, only a few fake 'taps', then more and more, and eventually the screen didn't recognize any of my taps at all.
So it seems to be a hardware issue. The only software solution I could think of: back in WM 2003 days, there was a registry setting to increase/decrease the touchscreen sensitivity. If it still exists in WM5 (don't know, sorry. Others may be able to tell you), you could try setting it to be quite insensitive. Might help.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply, now that I think of it, it only happens when it's warm. Looks like I'm SOL. Oh well, I guess ill put up with it until the iPhone comes out.. ill try loosening the screws too.
Your case is putting pressure on that part of your screen. It is not device specific. Slip a piece of paper under the case to check for clearance. I use under the case screen protectors and have seen this before. You may be able to simple pry the case and create some clearance.
I have exactly the same symptoms. It seems the registry settings do not exist in the Hermes to adjust the sensitivity so I am thinking return for replacement must be the only option. Argh! I feel defeated

I've inserted a small piece of plastic between the frame and the screen (one month ago).
Here you will find a resume of proposed working solutions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1056346&postcount=227
Can you tell us the serial of your Hermes? (HTC62xxxxx, 63, 64)
That is the same problem I had with my 8525. I tried ALL the solutions here in the forum but nothing solved it. I finally returned it to Cingular and they gave me a brand new one with zero hassle. Two weeks in on the new one, and it's working like a champ (knock on wood).
the S/N is HT657xxxx
Nothing is putting pressure on the screen, I've pried some clearence between that part of the screen and it still does it. I dont even have a Cingular account, so I doubt they'd help me
My only other option is to take it apart(following the japanese website instructions) and see what's going on.. Maybe something underneath the screen is doing it? I dont know..
Oh yeah, not only did i loosen the screws behind the screen but I completely removed them and it STILL does it. I found the registry setting for screen sensitivity and lowered it from 7,xxxx to 5,xxx and it did nothing..
I have had a problem with my touchcreen for 2 weeks now. The touchscreen all of a sudden stopped working, i tried all the suggestions on the wiki to re-align the screen. It didn't work. I then replaced the touch screen and it still did not work. My hermes isn't in warranty so i had no choice but to get it fixed myself. I then rang HTC and they told me it was a software fault and they have no solutions as of yet but are looking into it.
I have seen, looking through the forums that many of you have the same problem as me... do any of you think HTC will be true to there word and find a solution, or will we all have to live with smartphones now?

Quite frankly I don't believe HTC's answer. Yes some of these cases maybe software related in which case a hard reset should fix it. If it doesn't then the device is faulty and should be replaced under warranty if possible.
However most cases in my experience are neither hardware nor software!!!!! They are related to the pressure put on the screen/digitizer by the case/bezel and are often intermittent, apparent when device is warm or in a few cases permanent alignment or no screen response is shown. Many report random or even predictable responses such as start menu opening and applications closing despite no user taps on the screen.
I have made several posts telling users not to spend money buying new screens as in the majority of cases there is no fault with the screen or indeed with the software but rather a proportion of cases put pressure on the touch sensitive screen.
I would further point out that a software issue would be apparent for all those with that model - this is not the case.
Mike
I had this problem last week and I solved it realigned the screen. Now, everything is fine. Fortunately.
I think you can soft-reset the HERMES to check if it will work properly, or hard reset.
Did you unlock your screen?
Hello
In some cases, the problem is in a broken conexion under the main processor of the PDA (no phone processor). In other cases, you can see if have a dent in a surface of font case, around of the display. It causes a false measurement in the touch screen system.
Please, you excuse my bad quality for English.

If it dosen't work, maybe you can try flashing with other ROMs.
Hi, i haved this probrem, i solved it pushing arround the screen, it seen thad in my case it was a probren related with internal contac of the sceen.

thx

Unfortunately it's just the well known rubber block that comes off. It's a very easy fix just glue it back in the right place. Problem is that if you take the back off you void any warranty you may have.
See here:

I had the same problem. While I was replacing my digitizer and LCD I looked for the rubber block and it was still there - so I bent the tab down and adjusted the plastic part that grasps the point of the stylus and all is well again.
Pics are floating around in the WiKi or on mikechannon's posts.
Thanks for the link.
Since the device is only some months old and I wouldn't like to lose the warranty, I cannot open it unfortunately. Is there a other way/solution?

The only other option you have is to send the device back under warranty.
The dealer offered an exchange of the device to me. Alternatively he will turn back the device and refund the money to me.
What do you think, are the new devices better in that point?
When does the "Kaiser" come out?
In the meantime I read in another thread that the error arises very rarely. Surely?

My sound seems to be ok. It's only the slide/lock problem.
This was very common with the HTC Wizard. With my Hermes it gets loose everynow and then; it kinda fixes itself. Like sometimes it will just fall out, and other times its snug just like new.
Wierd huh?
so i'm gonna vote no on the poll because it barely bothers me.
Hi there, my phones screen will not work, my friend kept opening and closing they keypad quickly after which he gave me the phone back and the screen did not work!
The problem im having is that the touch screen dont work, nothin else is wrong, the screen is not cracked, jus that it dont touch sceen no more.
The bad thing is I put it on boot mode and erased the phone memory, and since the touch screen dont work i can allign the cross thing.
Does anyone know a way in which i could fix this?

Mmmm. Tricky perhaps. A hard reset will either cure or leave you stuck. If you hard reset and the screen is indeed dead (touch wise) then you'll never get past the alignment stage. If the touch issue is software related then you would be sorted with the hard reset.
A gamble I think!!
However you are stuck at the moment so in a sense you have nothing to lose. If it ends up being useless then you are faced with a warranty (hopefully) repair otherwise some DIY though it's not entirely obvious what has broken/come loose - possibly just a ribbon connector.
Mike

Yeah i think its that as well, i hard reseted it a few times with no effect, in the begining of the day, it could still reconise the screen taps around 2/3 times before it totally went dead.
Are there any tutorials on how to open it up to check the ribbon?
Thanks.
This maybe the hardware problem with the mainboard itself. I read about this on here a few times, most people had the get their phones exchange....

Yes, I am equally unsure that this is just a simple loose connector. It may be, but it appears to be fine for a short while and only then goes off.
Like you myztikal47, I suggest going for warranty replacement if at all possible. Only if you have no warranty shuld you attempt a repair yourself - this is a notoriously ellusive fix and indeed I would say there is no 100% works for all answer. Certainly do not assume it's the screen - most probably it isn't and you'll waste your money.
There are dismantling links in this forum - but you'll find them on my small Hermes site http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com- go to the loose keyboard section and you'll see the links.
