Would someone be so kind as to whip up a little app for me that toggles WiFi status? I would be ever so grateful.
I know that there are methods to map setting to hardware button but I want to map the Comm button to auto-toggle WiFi when I tap it instead of the annoyance of going to the Comm manager when I only use it to turn on/off WiFi.
Actually, what would be even _better_ is if someone could find a way to force the device to auto-start a WiFi connection the way it tries to with GPRS since I do not have a data plan.

Search for VJVolubilis from Vijay in the forum, it works great !

Not quite, but nearly. But there's a reg post towards the end of the thread that does get wifi working on the wizard.

Vijay Volubilis not working on prophet :-(

Has anybody found a way to toggle wifi off/on with one click, instead of going through comm manager? Vijay' volubilis responds that "no compatible wifi found" when executed on my prophet.
Anyone? Or Vijay himself maybe shedding some light on this issue?
VJVolubilis's wifi feature has only been tested on the Universal, because that's the hardware I have. The Wizard wifi control is not perfect, because I don't have one.
I'm slowly thinking about how to try to implement a more generic wifi control, but unfortunately this is not really an OS feature, it's OEM specific, so it's something I'm still investigating. I haven't thought about the Prophet before. Let me check it out...

If you need any info (registry or what-not), let me know.
Thanks for looking into this.
vjvolubilis can be used for turning on/off wifi on prophet..
but there is one additional step to make it work..
ie after every soft reset, u need to use comm manager to turn on/off wifi 1 time. after which , u can use vjvolubilis to control it..
this issue is the same when u are using phone alarm with skins that can allow one touch wifi on/off... ie comm manager must activate it for at least once before it will respond to oneclick controls from either vjvolubilis or phonealarm..
I own a dopod818 [ singapore's version of prophet ]
Hey, I didn't know it (kind of) works on the Prophet... so it uses the same architecture as the Wizard I guess.
I'll try to think about Wifi control a little more as soon as I get a bit of time.

Not quite. Yes, true, I realized now that once Comm manager is employed once, Vijay's app CAN turn wifi on. But it does not turn it off, if you press wifi toggle again...
At least on my Qtek S200 with latest Dopod rom.
solved
Found a solution for this issue
Just put a shortcut to \Windows\WiFiInit.exe into your startup folder and enjoy the quickly activating wi-fi! After a soft reset this vill activate wlan for a second (green led will flash once and a wi-fi icon will appear on a place of network icon — don't worry).
But, as krale said, there is another little bug with VjVolubilis: you have to create both -wifion and -wifioff shortcuts to control wifi on Prophet because -wifitoggle shortcut does not turn off the wi-fi, it just can activate it.
When launched with -status parameter, it says that Wisard wi-fi is activated.

Looking for the Reg Edit. for WiFi always on

....since PPCgeeks is down, can someone help me out with this? I'm using this with the 10 button Comm. manager so I can switch WiFi On/Off using the WiFi button in the Comm. manager. Thanks alot!
i think as long as the hardware switch is on wifi is on
AFAIK theres no way to bypass the hardware switch and have it on when the switch is off
ETA: i would actually want the opposite, have it off by default (with switch on) then turn it on with software when i need it
I improperly worded my OP. What I meant was, while hardware switch is ON, I would be able to toggle ON/OFF via comm. manager. I had this previous to updating my ROM. It was a reg. edit I found on PPCgeeks. Currently, with the hardware switch ON, I'm not able to toggle WLAN since the button has an X. I understading what you're saying though defaultdotxbe.
ah, gotcha, sorry i dont know the answer
interestingly, it seems not all programs need this reg edit, im able to use spb phone suite to toggle wifi on and off with no modifications (unless phone suite does the red edit on its own) its worked on roms 2.08, 2.17 and 3.16

Use WiFi switch to enable Bluetooth

Is there a way I can reconfigure the WiFi switch on my Mogul to enable Bluetooth instead of WiFi?
Unfortunately, I believe the answer is no for the wi-fi switch is hardware employed to the wi-fi radio. Soft buttons can be re-assigned but the physical wi-fi switch would have to be re-soldered to the BT radio in order to perform the operation you are requesting...
i wouldnt give up just yet.
I say that because with some of the early cooked ROM's people would have the switch turned off but the WiFi would still be on. So that makes me wonder if it really is hard wired or ifs its really a software controlled thing.
I have read many threads related to this topic with the same conclusion. However, if there is a way to re-map the hardware wi-fi switch on the side to BT, etc then I stand corrected and I am pleased that somone has enabled the modification.
Currently I know that the physical wi-fi switch can be left in the ON position and wi-fi can be enabled/disabled through the 10-button comm manger by editing the registry. Some guys at PDAPhone have a thread where they were inquiring about re-mapping the wi-fi switch to toggle vibrate but with no success.
I will research this and see if anyone has yet successfully remapped the wi-fi switch and post results here...

I say keep looking, sooner or later someone will find it. I can confirm that in the past I have seen my wireless function with the switch in the off position. Granted all I saw were available wireless networks, didn't attempt to join or verify. I just wish I could remember what ROM I was playing with when I saw this occur.
Depending on the adapter (mine is set to TNETW12511) setting in the registry, your wi-fi will connect while disregarding the hardware switch's position.
But re-mapping the entire physical connection itself to another function (vibrate, bluetooth, etc) outside of wi-fi capability may be more complicated...
If the switch is physically located in the wifi radio good luck ... I could see how one could enable or disable it with software because your just bypassing the function of the actual switch. Remapping the switch to work for an entirely different piece of physical hardware seems less likely. I'm not saying its impossible but ...
it would depend if the software is aware of the switch at all, it would seem to be a hard switch, but if wifi was indeed enabled with the switch off then it would have to be a soft switch
although it could also be that the custom rom was aware of the wifi, and just didnt realize it was powered off
YES

A couple of the new ROMs from PPCkitchen (19588 & 20270, I think) have a new app in the System Settings folder called "nueWIFISwitch CPL v1.3". It allows you to edit the hrdware switch bahaviors.
Hope I'm not too late to help. I see the O.P. is from a while back.
Just checking in.
anybody actually get this to work.
the nue app would work it we could get a bluetoothON.exe and bluetoothoff.exe
then just map those programs to work with the nue app - and there you go hardware on off bluetooth switch.......
anybody....

[APP-REQ] "Locale" for WinMob (Programm to switch Bluetooth and Wifi on by shedule)

[APP-REQ] "Locale" for WinMob (Programm to switch Bluetooth and Wifi on by shedule)
Already started the same thread in blackstine-specific-forum, hope u wont kill me
More people can see it now, think its also interesting for a lot of people
--->
is there a programm which can be used to switch bluetooth and wifi on by shedule or even by locating u by gps or gsm?
For example:
Monday to Friday i quit work at 18:30.
In my car I've got a bluetooth car-kit.
So the programm should just switch bluetooth on at 18:30.
19:00 I'm at home, so bluetooth should be switched of and wifi on
23:00 i go to bed and so wifi and bluetooth--->off
Is there a programm out there?
I know the programm "locale" for android which can do the things i mentioned above but it can also use gps and mobile-locating by gsm.
That would be awesome of course.
just imagine: U go to work and the programm just switches off the ringtones and sets it to vibtrate, switched off bluetooth and wifi and so one. Even if u go there earlier and so one because it locates u by gps or gsm.
So let me kno guys
Thx in advance
do yourself a favor. just install AEbuttons and assign o button a function of enabling/disabling bluetooth and wifi.
on my device i have the following setup on one of the left soft key
single press.... enable/disable wifi
double press .... enable/disable blutooth (discoverable)
triple press .... rotate screen
long press .... "launch manager" software
this setup works amazingly well for me and it really fast
there is a software that does what you want but i forgot it. you will have better luck getting an answer posting in the q/a forum.
Good Idea, will post it in Q-A forum.
PLEASE CLOSE HERE!!!!

Turn on WIFI via side button

Is this possible? I know you can get to comm manager by pressing a side key, but is it possible to directly turn on wifi? I'm sorry if this has been asked somewhere else, i couldn't find it, even with search
ps. Under comm manager there is data connection (using OT7.7), if it's off does it disable gprs/edge?
I've read that by deleting the tmobile data connection from settings>Connections>connections it will disable gprs or edge anyway right? So the setting in comm manager does not really matter?
Thank you guys so much before hand. I know you guys are busy. Just a noob trying to get along. You guys are probably the reason i got a wing
solved
Nevermind, solved using this program and assigning to side buttons
