Is there a way of installing Active Sync without installing or upgrading my computer to Windows XP SP2?
Does your XPsp2 installer not like your XP?
Why would it not work?
I installed ActiveSync 4.1 on an XP system without SP2 and have had no problems.
How about some error messages? Anything in the logs?

No problem for my notebook running Win XP Pro SP2 and ActiveSync v4.1
Make sure you upgarde your PC/notebook WMP9 to WMP10 before installing ActiveSync 4.1

Hi. Thanks for the response everyone.
Where can I find version 3.7?
Active Sync 4.0 and 4.1 requires Windows SP2. The problem arises after I upgraded to Windows SP2. I can't connect to my WiFi access point anymore. I disabled every firewall there is and I still could not connect to my access point. Reset the computer and still could not connect. My TH55/E1 and EXEC can, with the exception of my computer. Now I can install Active sync 4.0 and 4.1 without problems but not having the internet access is my down fall. So after installing some stuff I usually run the restore option from previous. So you guys can imagine the trouble I am going through.

Sounds like very strange behavior. I'd suggest you try to fix your PC rather than installing an old version of ActiveSync. (Your Exec, after all, requires ActiveSync 4.x to synch Windows Mobile 5.)

Thanks Triband81.
Right now I've installed all the applications I want so I restored back prior to Windows SP2.
No problem, so you're using 3.8?

No, right now, I've installed all the applications I need using active sync 4.1.
I still could not connect my computer to the internet, so I restored back prior to SP2. I don't need to sync anyway, not unless I have to install something in the future.

No error messages. It is as if, Windows SP2 cut off my internet connection totally. I have no problem installing nor using Active sync 4.1. I just could not connect to the internet after I upgraded to windows SP2.

I have no idea as to why I could not install Active Sync 4.1 without Windows SP2, it might be a requirement. But it is odd that you were able to install yours.
XP SP1 and Async working fine, both on the lappy and the home computer although im using version 4.0
Whats the exact problem tha you cannot connect to your AP with SP2??
A Commen problem is that the PC cannot get an IP Adress. If this is your problem, install SP2 and after that the "KB893357-v2" Update, this is an optional patch that brings WPA2 and other features to XP, and it fix this WLAN Bug. Patch is here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=662bb74d-e7c1-48d6-95ee-1459234f4483
And yes you need ActiveSync 4.1 for Mobile 5

Thanks very much lutzs! I'll try it right now. I'll post back if it works.
I have my settings on automatic, so it'll detect my access point, that is without SP2 installed and my internet works.
But as soon as I upgarde to SP2 so I can install Active Sync 4.1. My computer can't access the internet saying: "LOW SIGNAL". I tried manually assigning IP addresses, now I saw that windows was able to connect, but still Internet explorer won't work.
Thanks for this update link. I'll upgrade again to Windows SP2, then install the file from the link you suggested. I'll post back with the result. Wish me luck!

Hi lutzs,
I tried this today and it still did not work. Maybe I need to fully reformat my computer. We'll see if I'm in the mood for that. It takes an entire day to reformat my computer and I hate to waste time. Although, I already tried that once before and did not work. Anyway, I restored back to basic windows xp without the SP2 update. Thus, I don't have Active Sync installed since version 4.x requires SP2.
Any reasons why not? Im on Windows XP yet it comes up a warning saying that it will only work on computers with XP!
This is very frustrating...
Is there any other way to link my phone up to my computer? I would really like to transfer some music onto it
Have you got SP2 installed?
I cant, I dont have a genuine Windows.
Do you NEED SP2? Surely there is a way around this...
I can download activesync 3.8 but I think I need the drivers for the phone?
Any help... PLEASE!?!
I've had the same problem with my XP version
impossible also to install an update from windows site
I had to install an update on my windows 2000, that worked
and then activesync 4.1 finally worked 100%
other way to work around that was to download things on XP
put them on my old SPV E200 with activesync 3.7 wich works
and then send the things on my SPV M3000 by bluetooth...

Or get a Legit copy of Windows XP!!!
You run a pirate operating system then compalin when software doesn't work with it properly.
Come back when you have a license. Is your Wizard stolen as well?
hmmm dude...
the post isnt if its right or wrong to steal windows! Its to do with how we can cheat them more!
I think the only way round this is to download a crack to get xp2.
If I could find the drivers for the phone would it work on activesync 3.8?
PS. No my phone is not stolen, Im sure you have a copied CD in your collection somewhere too.
There's a vast number of copied XP versions with SP2 pre-installed available out there. Should be all you need.
I can get a legal copy of windows xp from somewhere...
But to install it would I loose all of my documents?
chrisredmayne: it would be in your interest to backup your docs (and whole system) before installing SP2, even if your windows is legit. It's a big install!
You could make your own SP2 install disk, by "slipstreaming" SP2 into a windows install disk. Also, there are cracks for SP2, and there are also cracks for trial versions of windows.
I imagine the ActiveSync install could probably be cracked to skip the SP2 check, but it's not a long term solution.
I don't recommend any of this. When you start using SP2 and Windows in the future, you'll have to have a legitimate copy to download certain updates from Microsoft, so you might as well get hold of a legit windows, one way or the other. OEM copies are stupidly cheap, and you can even buy an OEM Media Center install for a small amount of money.

there is a piece of software at
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2 called "card export II"
allows you to make the wizard look like a mass storage device, so activesync is not needed to transfer to the storage card.
ps (takes a few goes to install)
I dont get how to install it, only looked at it for a minute though. I unpacked all of the files, and it asks to open a prc file? and press hotsync on the cradle... (Guess that means phone).... Stumped
if i remember correctly .prc files are for palm user's not pocket pc.
i think you have downloaded the wrong version!
Use cardreader to download into mSD, anything you want:
Music, apps, but you need cab files to install it from mSD card.

aliendad, can you confirm you actually have Softick Card Export II for Pocket PC working on a wizard device? I have tried this on my k-jam and it didnt work at all. Even when i contacted Softick support they have said they are still working on a WM5 / Wizard compatible version.
EDIT: i just went and downloaded v2.10 of CE2PPC (which funnily enough isnt even mentioned on the website). In the setup i downloaded, i found there is a WM5 ARM install cab however this still fails to install on my Wizard / K-JAM as with all the previous versions.
Thanks
Chris
You need a minimum of SP1. You do not need SP2. For ActiveSync 4.1. If you cannot pass the genuine validation tool you need to enable automatic updates and to install them automatically. You cannot use the Windows Update site. If you set to install Critical Updates automatically it should bring down SP2 (as it is considered a Critical Update)
Also you can just download SP2 (the full install) and you should be able to install it. It should not require validation as you can install it if not connected to the network.
Although the above may not work if you truly have a messed up version of XP. I am assuming you have either a cracked version of a legit copy or an invalid product code.
I have read about people cracking XP Media Center 2005 and all worked well until the Genuine Validation tool. Then somebody came out with a crack for that.
Good Luck
I just got a disk with XP so I think its a fake validation code that I have.
I downloaded the SP2 from the windows update site, and from a random site somewhere that I searched on google for.
The problem was that when I tried to install it stopped after a few minutes and said that it wasnt a genuine windows. So Im guessing any version that I download will have the same check on it.
But I shall try and turn my updates on later and see if it works, or give that other program a go!

yes, is does work, had to do a lot of soft reseting but now have a quick access icon at the bottom of the screen to select card export or active sync.
a few days ago did a hard reset, and installed card export as one of the first installs and it installed much more smoothly that the earlier install.
ps great prog makes things much easier, can't install activesync at work.

have you try connect your p3600 and see whether it sync?
I can't test P3600 because I gave it away. Here it is what I get when I try to sync:
I don't read your language, but based on what you've said, try checking windows update, while your athena is connected. Perhaps, there are files for you to download after you connect. I have Vista Ultimate as well, and the drivers did install when I first synced, so you should be able to have them too.
Really I dont' know what could it be. However the message window say that:
it's necessary to install GENERIC RNDIS DRIVER
What the hell!!!!
Now I'm trying under XP and I have no problem...what could it be? Any suggestion?

I'm using Vista Business with Dopod U1000 and it runs flawlessly.
But I was getting Hell with Dopod 900 WM6 and Vista synchronization. So much problems, bugs, and inconsistencies.
Ohhh, thats what it says. Microsoft supply's in most cases generic remote NDIS drivers for at least USB, so vendors won't have to create their own specific drivers (or so I've read, anyway ). Do you run Vista 64? I've heard of 'RNDIS driver missing' issues with Vista 64. You may also want to check your startup disk you received with your Athena. I realize you use WMDC, but there may the RNDIS drivers bundled with Activesync, that you may be able to pull out. Just a thought, and other than that, I'm not sure what else to say, except look on the net. Good luck, I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for you.
Just to let you know i also run Vista Ultimate 64, and uses WMDC, the first time i connect my DOPOD U1000, it install the driver straight away without any problem, then i can start sync with no problem.

UHm very very OT...please some advice about my problem related to this post will be welcome...
It seems that it cant recognize device...
I Found solution!!!
It's a WMDC bug that start to find RNDIS drivers in wrong folder. So all I had to do was to force it finding drivers in correct folder: C:/windows
Now I can sync!!!

YOU ROCK!!!
YOU ARE THE MAN!!!! You don't have an Idea of how many hours I spend searching a solution for get my htc wizard recognized, your last comment on force the driver search on c:\windows solve my problem too...
But not also with my phone even with a lot of hardware that I can't make get recognized...
Vista seems to be a real pain in.... anyways I don't know how many research I have left but, I have two vista x32 home premiun edition computers one made by gateway and the other by samsung.
And I notice that the samsung one doesn't have any problem recognizing hardware, so I entered to the device manager to see the drivers and I notices must of them run under the 6.0.6000.16389 vista_rtm .....) version and I found that this Driver Kit it's availiable on windows connect for beta testers, so I decide to download them, lets see if this driver kit solve many issues with my gateway.
New Version WMDC 6.1 is available!
New version is available in Microsoft website, you can download freely and install!
It should solve most of the problems!
I'm using Dopod U1000 with Vista Ultimate and WMDC 6.1 without any problem!
My only concern is I'm unable to 'reflow' pdf documents using Vista!(It was very easy with Active Sync4.5 & XP)
Any idea to overcome this problem?
plz share!

Hi Guys,
Got a new htc hd2 from tmobile in the uk, got last years september rom on it and found that it had an old rom on it, needs upgrading and wanting to put a updated rom, but wanted a rom that had all the bells and whistles,
currently it keeps freezin when sending txts an randomly crashes, had a couple of them, an thought it was phone til i realised all software related an needs seriously updating, but thought would go the whole hog then not do it for a while lol
Never done this before and a bit of a noob, have been reading through the stickys, but still abit unsure
Wasnt sure wether i would be able to put windows 7 or android on it, so if need be will stick to just winmo 6.5 but wanted a rom that gave me some decent apps with it, like those power/cooked roms, but didnt know what to go for, what would be best
never installed apps before, apart from through windows marketplace,
So hints tips an a great step by step noobie guide would be great,
Cheers for reading
Shazarda
Rom!! ???
I'm not being rude, but you really need to search forum. There are lots of threads about just what you are needing. WM7 is not available, android, they are working on, no idea when. Give search a try. lots of info,,,,
I did search the forums, i have been searching, hence how i obtained the info,
i know there are a lot of different cooked roms, but nothing that can help me differentiate which to choose from,
tbh ALL I want on the rom is probably like an e-reader and a torch, anything else is a bonus lol,
but i cant seem to locate something that says this is the one that wont cause me any issues, i am tempted just to grab the stock rom off htc, as that should resolve most of the issues with the phone

It will connect to usb while the phone is running, but as soon as it drops to bootloader the usb connection will not get passed back to xp.
you will not get hspl to work in a virtual environment or bootcamp. (or so i hear, i dont have a mac, i just read a lot )
You 'may' get flashing to work from bootcamp, but deff not hspl.
You will need to use a windows machine to instal hspl.

I resisted using a non "stock" ROM for a while, but I eventually got fed up with even the latest version that was released for O2 (1.72).
Yesterday I installed the Atermis v14 ROM, which I have to say stands head and shoulders above the standard release ROMs.
I chose it for two reasons, after looking on the "HTC_Leo/ROMs" page on the wiki attached to the site. First was that it was described as "Combines the latest WM 6.5.5 version with latest Manila 2.5.2012 (Leo 2.11) for HD2.This ROM Family is stable , fast and very close to stock ROM "Philosophy"." Second because it was first on the list
I found it really easy to install, using SSPL; you just put the downloaded ROM image and SSPL exe into a folder, connect your phone via USB with ActiveSync of Device Centre, and run the exe on your PC. There are pretty simple step by step instructions on both the SSPL and Atermis pages.
After installing Atermis I also installed S2U2 via a cab file, which gives me a different un/lock screen; again there's easy instructions, though you do have to play around with the S2U2 config app to get the behaviour as you might want (e.g. background image, time format, caller display). All straight forward though as you install the cab, then it's available via the start menu/app list. I like it because it's more responsive on wake up and allows direct access to messages, etc on unlock.
Unfortunately it seems all the ROM flashing apps are windows based (it's a windows phone after all...), so I doubt you'd have fun trying to flash a ROM with a mac. Probably simpler all round to borrow a friends PC for 10 mins!
If you are going to flash a new rom though, it's definitely worth backing up your contacts and messages, etc. Microsoft myPhone works for me, and comes pre-installed.
