If the phone was connected to GPRS, and GPRS service became unavailable for a reason, the phone displayes a notification saying that it failed to connect to the access point etc., and this notification is displayed permanently, until I close it manually. The bad thing is that it looks like while this notification is visible, the system does not run other notifications... in particular, alarms do not work.
Is there a way to stop bothering me with such a notification?
For a while I see no other way but to manually disconnect from GPRS before going to sleep...
anybody got a solution to this problem, as it this keeps appearing on mine when using Tomtom trafiic, it covers virtually the whole screen, making it very annoying. There must be a way of turning it off.
if anyone can help please let me know.
Thanks
no one was ever able to help me with this for the 8125 either. I hope someone solves it on the 8525 though. because i'll be getting mine on tuesday
This is my dream to stop this as well...
But I can't find a fix anywhere

I now have the push email up and running but I can't seem to get my device to wakeup when I have new mail. I have to keep turning it on to see if I got new mail or not. This can be very annoying. Is there any way around this?
I have looked in notifications and under "new email message" I have it selected to display on screen and vibrate. What else do I need to change?
Hi DanITman,
I've got the same problem here.
With my HP6340 this works perfectly so when I bought the wizard I expected the same, but not.
Seems to me that active sync can’t wake up the wizard even if you change the registry to wake up WLAN after standby.
So if there is someone else who could help as that would be much appreciated.

I have no problem getting mail while in sleep mode. I just want it to notify me when I do receive mail by waking up and vibrating. Or stay in sleep mode and just vibrate. I would be happy with that. I just think that the push email is useless unless I get notified when an email comes in so I can respond promtly. I'm glad to see others are having the same problem and hopefully a fix will come out soon.
So if I understand you correctly your device can receive e-mail when it's in standby?
Do you use GPRS or WLAN for push e-mail?
I think you might have checked notification under sounds in the settings screen?

I use GPRS/EDGE for all of my email. ActiveSync works fine in sleep mode. However, when mail does arrive I don't know it until I turn my device back on manually, making the whole push email thing useless because i still have to check to see if I have received new mail or not. Under notifications I have it set to vibrate and show on screen when new email arrives (which it does) but only if its not in sleep mode or once I turn the device on manually it will begin to vibrate to tell me new mail has arrived.
Sorry can't help you with this one mate.
But you’re right, why no notification when your device is in standby.
Seems to me that there is no difference i notification between receiving an SMS or E-mail when you use push e-mail.
Maybe a bug in the test rom?
We will se when there is an official one.
Same issue here. Was never an issue using the old psuedo-push sms system with the old ROM.
Anybody know what the effect of never going into full standby mode would be on the battery? In other words, the screen backlight off but never in standby?

I have never been able to get this to work even when I had ActiveSync set to sync every 5 minutes with the old ROM. It wasn't a problem if you used the old SMS push system because the sms would wake the device up. I was hopeing it was my fault and I was missing a setting but it seems its happening to everyone. Its a pain in the ass.
I did some testing and found out that I can get it to play a sound in standby mode when I have a new email but it won't vibrate. Since my device is only syncing when told too by the server I am going to see if I can get it to vibrate at the end of an activesync and that could possible work.
Setting ActiveSync to vibrate after its finished doesn't work either. Even when the device is on
I was hoping that the "Wake Up to Full Power Mode" tweak in Tweaks2k2 might solve this one, but alas no go. Bummer.

Thanks for trying that. I think MS needs to get this figured out if they want these devices to be BlackBerry killers. Push email is useless if I don't know that I have email the minute it comes in.
this may not help, but it's worth a try......
i put my Wizard (with the new Rom) into a car cradle which is always powered..........therefore the unit is always on.........if the current program on screen is Inbox, then new email coming in does not sound the notification sound.......
if Inbox is running in the background or not at all, then i get the notification sound.......
so........ i tried at home both methods and even when switched off, Inbox needs to be running in the background and not the current program for the sound to notify in an off/standby state
but........ i do get sound notification in standby as long as it is running in the background (ie, when you switch it on, Today screen or Phone or any other app is the 1st thing that greets you)
i regularly get the sound going off through the evening whilst in standby mode....
I know it doesn't solve you problem, but Goodlink got it right.
I will get sound and vib while the unit is in stand-by.
you would thing MS would be able to do the same...
I assume its a glitch that will be fixed soon. Does anyone know where in the registry notifications are kept? I would like to do some searching to see what I can find.
Same problem...
I have the very same problem. Had it before the AKU2 ROM and still have it now. I have taken to using MortSaver and never putting the device in standby...battery doesn't seem affected. Still, rather have this working like it's supposed to out of the box...hope someone can find a solution!

Thanks. I am going to try this -- do you know if the program, which I assume is running in the background all the time, has any impact on device performance?
I have the Cingular 8125 and I love it, but I also have the same problem. I have Goodlink installed and if my device is sleeping it will not vibrate when emails come in. It will make the sound but no vibration. I am currently using Mortsaver for now to keep the device running with the screen off, so that I can feel the vibration and know that I have received an email.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Can anyone verify if this has been fixed in the new Kjam ROM. I don't want to upgrade until this gets fixed. The qtek test ROM is working really well.

I still can't believe that MS has screwed this seemingly fundamental feature up.
In any event, the workaround I am trying at the moment involves the new version of AEPButtons plus. Using this program, I set a double click PIE button action to turn the screen off. In settings, I have unchecked the "Turn Device off after" button so the device never goes to sleep. When I holster or put down my K-jam, I double click the PIE button to turn off the screen and save battery life/prevent accidental key presses. Since the device never truly goes to sleep, the email notifications still come and I get the vibrate telling me an email has arrived. At night or when I don't want notifications, I press the power button. It's not a perfect solution, but it seems to work OK and I don't seem to be missing as many emails coming in.
My Wizard becomes completely silent after 9 hours in standby mode.
I need to reset it to get back sound.
No rings either when someone is calling me.
Does someone know what is going on here ?
Please advise. Thank you.
Did anyone else notice this too on their Wizard ?
Ok the first thing to do is, think to yourself have i put any software on my PDA since this started happening!
Then if so try taking it off and see if that software effects the PDA
I have the same issue. No idea what causes it. I just reset because I'm too lazy to find the solution.
This is a real pain in the neck.
Yes, this is a real problem.
I noticed that many people have this problem, but not many notice it.
They simple use their phone regulary or shut it off in the night,
and so they will not notice it.
I am still looking into it, but I noticed that it happens sometimes not always.
But its a pain in the neck as it needs to be always on.
I also have my GPRS always on for receiving email,
further I use Wisbar and SPB pocket plus.
So in the evening everything is ok, but in the morning I often do not get
any sound (no sound either from incoming calls) and need to reset.
I noticed that this problem happens when for example email is automatically checked during night. If email comes in (and is not read immediately) the phone will start notifying in background.
Notifications are kept and only a program like "check notifications" will delete them manually. But still if you delete them, the phone then needs a reset
to work properly again.
This is not a memory issue, it has to do with the notifications.
I do not know how to solve it.

I have this problem too. It's been driving me mad for ages and I have reached the point were I'm ready to ditch the phone. It can happen within a few hours of a soft reset, causing me to miss most calls! I hadn't added any new software in the period before the problem started.
Your thoughts that it may be due to receiving email message notifications without clearing them seems feasible. I changed jobs around the time I noticed this problem start. I often get lots of emails while I am unable to respond to the notifications so it seems a likely link. Previously, I always responded to mail promptly and I never noticed a problem.
I'm going to look into this idea by first turning off all notifications for email in the "sounds and notifications" tool in Settings. If this doesn't work, I'll try disabling automatic email checking.
I'll report back with my findings
As promised, an update to my earlier post.
It's been about a week since I tried my "tweak" to try and correct the loss of sound when in standby...
IT WORKED!!
Since I've disabled email notifications my phone has worked continuously without a single problem. I'm still automatically checking for new mail every 10 minutes, I just check the "message" item on the today screen every now and then to see if any mails have arrived rather than have the device notify me. Not ideal but better than not knowing when my phone rings!
If you want to try the workaround, go to settings and open "Sounds and notifications" on the personal tab.
Click on the notifications tab and select "Messaging: New e-mail message" from the drop down "Event" box. Uncheck all of the check boxes so that no notifications occur and you should be alright... unless it happends for some other notifications as well!
Good Luck.
Hi All.
I've persevered with this problem long enough and I'm reaching the point where I'm ready to send my phone back and ask for something else.
The problem is, seemingly at random, the phone loses the notification settings for SMS, MMS and reminders and silences them all and turns off all display messages.
The only way I catch a message coming in these days is to have the phone on the desk and watch for the screen turning on.
It leaves the volume up for the phone ringing etc but switches off messages.
It's absolutely doing my head in. I've googled but noone else seems to be reporting similar messages so I'm wondering if there is something really easy I'm missing or is it a hardware thing some how.
Anyone got any ideas? Filaing that, has anyone got a backup of the original UK T-Mobile ROM that I can put back on?
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Exactly the same is happening to my dual, after I upgraded to WM 6.1! It's really annoying.
I reported the problem to Customer Support, but they only recommended to perform a hard reset
Of course I did, but nothing happens.
I found the registry keys which are supposed to control this, but it's useless for me - Maybe someone can find a way to keep the settings in read-only mode or something
I hope HTC release a hotfix for this problem asap!
hi
i get this message (see pic) almost every time I wake my device up. It's kinda starting to annoy me :S. It says something about not able to connect, altough I can instantly start surfing the web without any problems
Someone must know how to fix this?!
This is the single most annoying thing about my HD2. I want the data connection on but I don't need it telling me when it can't connect especially when I am in the middle of trying to compose a text message or navigate somewhere using tomtom!

Thanks but the issue is not the connectivity or lack of it just the annoying notification. I don't want to be notified regardless of whether or not I can connect. Anyone know how to turn off the notification?
Hi,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S about a month ago, and have been having odd problems with it since the off. Has anyone else had these sort of symptoms:
1. I occasionally lose my data connection - the icon disappears from the top of the screen and whilst I can still make and recieve calls and text messages, I cannot download anything in any app. The only way I've found to get my data connection back is to reset the phone. This happens maybe a couple of times a week.
2. My WiFi seems to suffer from a similar problem. I can be browsing the web on Wifi, then suddenly I'll not be able to download anything anymore. The wifi icon is still visible, but I'll basically be unable to download anything until I switch the wifi off and back on again. Then, it starts working as normal again.
In both these above scenarios, I think I've narrowed it down to primarily happening after I use the Android Market, but it's difficult to tell as it's very intermittent.
3. A couple of times since getting the phone, I've been unable to make or receive any calls. Even switching the phone off and back on didn't help - my signal bar was showing I had a signal and my data connection was still active. Couldn't tell if this was a network problem or not though as there weren't any people nearby on the same network as me. After a while, it started working normally again.
4. The email client randomly lost all of my email settings. One day I was receiving all my emails, the next day I had no email accounts set up at all.
5. I installed Sensor Dump and Phone Explorer to see what data was coming in from the sensors, and have noticed that the light sensor never sends any data. Is this normal?
I also have the usual slow-down issues, etc, but the above have got me stumped as I can't find anyone else reporting the same issues. When I first got the phone, I went crazy installing a load of Android apps, so initially I blamed the software I'd installed. After a reset and being a bit more selective with the apps I install and use, I'm still getting the same issues. I just can't pin down whether this is a faulty phone that I should return, or if there are software issues either relating to the way I'm using the phone or just with bugs in the firmware.
Has anyone else had anything like the above happen with their Galaxy S?
Thanks,
Chris.
I've experienced no.2 several times, wifi just stopping all data traffic. Not found out what causes it though.
As for the other problems, I haven't experienced any of those. Do you use automatic brightness on the display? If not, problem no. 5 might be caused by the sensor being turned off.
thanks for the reply - at least I'm not completely alone!
I have the automatic brightness turned on - which is why it seems odd. To be honest, I've never actually see the auto brightness do anything. It always seems to be the same brightness to me.
Cheers,
Chris.

I think it might be normal that older mails disappear from the inbox after some time? My problem was that everything went. I had three email accounts set up, all downloading emails every hour. Then, one day I went into the email app and there were no accounts at all! I had to set it all up from scratch again.
I hear there are better email apps available for Android, so I'll probably switch to one of those soon.

Hi,
I bought a Galaxy S on Orange UK in July. I'm having the same problem as 1. quite consistenly now.
I thought it might be related to the green power battery saver app I had installed, but i've removed this and still having the problem.
I'm using the phone in several central London locations so I think it's unlikely to be a problem with the data network.
Any suggestion would be welcome since I'm often without data.
Thanks
Nik
ive 1 and 3 but very rarely so far
rebooting fixes it for me
running froyo jp3
for email i use K9, it's almost the same as the integrated mail, only much better (PUSH imap)

I'm actually getting this happen a lot now. It seems to be getting worse, which makes me think it might be a hardware fault. I generally lose my data connection once or twice a day minimum, but some days the phone is virtually unusable.
I have found that it's more likely to happen after using Wi-Fi, so my other thought is that when coming out of Wireless mode, the phone may not switch the normal 3G/HSDPA data connection back on. Most of the time I can fix this by putting the phone into flight mode and then back out, but sometimes it needs a complete reset.
The other problem I've noted with the data connection is that sometimes it seems to rapidly switch between HSDPA and 3G - the data icon at the top of the screen keeps going from '3G' to 'H' then back again. I guess it has something to do with signal quality but it only seems to happen when the phone is showing a good signal strength (four bars). The problem I've found when this happens is that it virtually locks up any ongoing data transfers, making it impossible to download a webpage or check my emails. Strangely the only way I've really found to stop this happening is to move somewhere where my signal strength is weaker, such as indoors, which then seems to make the phone stop attempting to use HSDPA. I can't find a way to switch off HSDPA from within the phone's settings while leaving 3G on.
I really am now finding that using this phone is an increasingly frustrating experience. I've found even more weird faults, such as sometimes my text conversations show the wrong people's names up against them, and then my replies go to the wrong people. It's like an insane, shiny mess of a phone!

I am indeed experiencing same problems above..it just drive me crazy with a need of complete reset everyday..
turning on n off flight mode won't change anything..
I really hope someone can bring a miracle to solve this problem..
I'm on XXJPC
setting the APN parameter(Setting-->Wireless and network-->Mobile Networks-->Access Point Names-->New APN) to 2G only seems to solve the 'lost data connection' problem..
I am connected 24/7 now..
Give a try guys!
