My Vario currently has
Storage
Total=47.46MB
In Use=37.83
Free 9.64
now I used Resco Explorer and found that My Documents folder is only 1.21MB in size, so what is the other 36MB being used for?
Even after i have stopped all running programs
Am I right in saying any programs i install to memory uses the Program memory?
I have 24MB Program memory free
I checked the size of the Windows folder and it is 75.16MB so is this the reason for having hardly any Storage memory left?
bumping this, please if anyone knows

I use the Storage to store some DLLs to save space. It works, not for all programs though.
Have tried installing programs to storage before (Journal Bar and Avantgo) but system seemed to be unstable afterwards.
Wonder if anyone has any good experience of storing and running other programs from Storage.
Also, has anyone tried installing the cab files from extended rom to Storage??? Is that possible at all???
RE
Yes, you can use Storage to store your cab files for the EXTROM.
BTW, program cab files for Storage and EXTROM are those that don't upgrade frequently otherwise you'll have to hard reset frequently too
Using Storage or Storage Cards should be avoided for anything on the today screen or anything which is bound to a hardware button. This is because the SD drivers take a little time to initialise when the device powers up and can result in files not being found - which can lead to small or big problems, depending on the nature of the 'missing' file.
This is why Pocket Plus cannot be installed in Storage any more and why Pocket Informant recommends installation into main memory. This is documented both by Spb Software House and WebIS.
I was beta testing SpbWeather and had some of the skins installed to Storage - whenever I used those skins, the plug-in was icon-less on power up, but main memory skins were fine.
As mentioned above, be careful selecting where to install Today Screen plug-ins.
As of the Storage, well I am not sure but I recommed you put in SMALL items in there since the storage becomes unstable at times because to OS may use a little of the Storage space to accomodate memory intensive applications like Adobe Acrobat. Correct me if I am wrong but this is what I understand about it.

Ther is so little storage there, why not just ignore it and use SD memory, or main memory where required?
I use storage to store my wma ringtones... haven't have the guts to move the DLLs yet. with regards to this... if i create a folder named Windows in Storage and move all my DLLs there would I need to hack into the apps individually ang make them look at this folder... or will the OS automatically look at both folders? Some people say to use systempath to do this.

As I know U have to hack the registry files of single appz to point in to storage folder instead in the main memory...

It's 10% of the device's memory, that's not insignificant and certainly not worth wasting. I store 13.2Mb of utilities and etc. in Storage so that it frees up the same amount of Main Memory but permits me to use them when swapping cards. I think it's a waste not to use it.
Into my Storage i have install :
Resco keyboard pro
Laplink controller
Handymenu
Hottbutton plus
Phone today
Today phone pro
VIto voice dialer
Used space for all this 3.21 mb
Free space 4.31 mb
I Don't have any problem at all, my JAM works smoothly & stable plus the today plugins run faster than ever...
Try with no doubt ...
I just checked how much memory my Vario (flashed wit the new imate rom) has left and I was shocked to see
Storage
Total 47.46MB
In Use 39.39MB
Free: 8.07MB
Program
Total 44.01MB
In use: 31.59MB
Free: 12.42MB
Anyone know what folders are used for Storage and what folders are used for Program
the root of my vario contains the following folders
Application Data
ConnMgr
Documents and Settings
My Documents
Program Files
Storage Card
Temp
TomTom
Windows
ive got a bit of a problem relating to this. last night i had around 12mb storage memory free, and about 15mb program memory.
this morning i have 800kb storage and 25mb program memory free?!?
ive not installed/run anything between this time, and its making my phone run very slow.
is there anyway to change the storage/program memory allocation? it seems something very odd has happened, ive deleted and switched over stuff to my storage card, and allowed my email attachements to be saved in on the card too (just to get the phone working at the usual speed) so im 5mb/23mb now.
what can i do? im sure when i had a 2003se phone that there was a slider to change the % in the memory menu?
Hi folks,
Just a quick one for you... I am about to download Spb Pocket Plus, Am I best off downloading it to the internal memory or my storage card (1gb)? Or doesn't it make a difference?
Thanks.
Matt.
Personally I have installed all my programs to my storage card, they dont take up too much space really. Just means that I always have fiull memory on my phone so it doesnt start to slow down, or atleast thats my theory!
some programs though by default can't be installed in the storage card, and i think spb pocket+ is one of them... not sure though
Even if you install SBP plus to your storage card, the today plugin dll is stored in your local memory, usually in the windows directory.
You can see this if you have memmaid and want to free up memory by relocating today plugins to the storage card - it's surprising how many megabytes of dll's are stored in local memory even if you choose the storage card !
Hello All.
I installed on my Qtek 9090 a ROM WM6 in Spanish, everything works fine but when I see how little storage space is left and plenty of room for programs that I use, I wonder:
How can free up space or distribute the available space for storage and programs.
This is data:
Memory storage:
Total space 60.30MB, In Use 52.55MB, Free 7.5MB
Memory Program:
Total space 109.12MB, In Use 37.45MB, Free 71.67MB
What I want is to have more memory for storage, as I do this?
Or able to balance the memory as is done in WM2003.
Forgive but do not like taking a picture of the device.
Unistall programs that dont need speeds and install on Storage card, that way yu can save lots of memory space.

It's not that easy. Every program I can install in the storage card, I try to do. I also changed my email and attachments to the storage card. Prior to syncing my email, I had 18MB and the PIM file was 11MB. 3/4 of the way through, I have 8MB left and the PIM file is 12MB.
After looking in every directory, I can't seem to find why 10MB of space was used. Further, you can't relocate the PIM file.
In WM2003, you can adjust the program and storage memory. You can't in WM6.
Try this...
Go see the second post here for what I do to keep the storage running with 12MB free and still install mad amounts of software!
Best advice is to read the bit about Pocket Mechanic - it'll help move most (not all) software to the card for you - changing all the reg entries and links for you!
And if it's speed you're after, try Pocket Hack Master from the same company!
But DO remember to backup with something like Spb Clone BEFORE you paly with these tools! Saves any embarrassment later

i think you may need ramdisk
look at the following thread

Hi,
Previously i had a HP 6365.
and one could very easily choose if we wanted to increase the storage or program memory but moving a simple bar.
this is not present in 8525.
although it has 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM.
total storage shown is 44.77MB
and total program memory shown is 48.77MB (where is the rest??)
is there a way to adjust this??
because i have only 3.2MB of storage available and 19.5MB or program memory available, although i always store programs on the microSD.
pls. shed some light,
Thanku for reading and answering.
Regards.
That program memory is your Ram... If you could cut that down your Hermes would run A LOT slower... Use total commander or, if you have it, resco explorer to see whats in your program directory on the phone itself... Backup 1st, then cut and paste to the sd card and remake the shortcuts in the windows directory.. Please remember though that some programs NEED to be on the Hermes.
Also check in the My Documents directory. You should store as much on the sd card as possible but the default storage location is on the Hermes...
Moving as much off the device memory will give you more storage space, but remember, it is limited...
Cheers...
wow..
thats an excellent suggestion.
iam working on that advice.
also wanted to ask u one more thing.
my 8525 has 64MB RAM
then why is it that it only shows 48MB total under programs??
what i mean is shouldnt it be showing 64MB total available???
thanku very much for answering
No, because the OS is using some. Also the extra programs that were installed with the os use Ram too.
Cheers...
