Google is offering free directory assitance now via voiceplan http://labs.google.com/goog411/ Just in case you are (like I frequently am) caught in a car when I cannot get online to type in the number and talking would much much simpler. I've only tried it once, and it worked for me.

2. what product activation you want
ans. windows mobile 7 activation key
3. Mobile brand name
ans. HTC HD7
4. My Mobile number
ans.0092----------
5. my e-mail id
ans. [email protected]
6. which location you live. she asked to me. usa or canada
ans. i told, i lived in usa ( i lived in pakistan)
she said to me, wait few minute.
and she give me activation key
this key has five row, each row have five alphabet

this conversation only 8 minute continued

My experience was very similar. I am from the UK, but spoke with an american representative named "Angel" (she sounded just like Dolly Parton). Angel also asked for my IMEI number. I answered all questions honestly, including saying the device was a hd2. This seemed to cause some confusion, I guess it wasn't on he drop down menu or something, but I explained "I have installed the HD7 software on a HD2, and she just said "ok" and gave me the code.
There's thread about this guys, please don't make any new ones involving how
you got your code.
i can see you don't command fluent english, and you will be surprised that the many who do, don't have the balls to speak up just like you did, and demand to xda that the activation process for wp7 made simpler...
I tried called the Microsoft hotline to request for an activation code and the person replied that he needed a couple of pictures of my phone front and back and a copy of the receipt of purchase. So i asked why did he need it and he told me that there have been a lot of callers requesting for the activation code for their devices when their devices aren't really the windows phone 7 devices,they somehow ported the operating system over to their phones lol

did you have to give a usa telephone number or did they accept your uk one??
I rang the UK number and was put through to a lady who sounded Indian (she asked for first name and then asked for my phone number in case we got disconnected)
She asked how I could help
I said I have installed the new windows Phone 7 OS but it continually asks for activation when I try things like marketplace ect
She apologised and asked for my EMEI and I think my mobile phone number
Then she said what make is the phone, I said HTC and she said HD7 okay (I did not say the model)
Then asked me to wait a minute while it generates the code
Then Gave me the code and asked me to repeat it back to her to make sure it was correct.
Then thanked me for the call
A very pleasant experience

I tried all possible ways to get the key but to no avail. Emailing, calling, and stalking. None worked.
I'd appreciate if anyone can send me an activation key. WP7 is almost useless without live services. Thanks a million for the taking the time.

Okej,,somehow,,i got the key,,it woked fine,,,i connected my phone to my computer,,and since then i cant get on marketplace on my phone :S

It was a piece of cake for me. I called them and they asked my LAst Name, First Name, Country, Phone number and email address. I got the key in not more than 3 mins.

And if you need any more info. tell them that u got the phone as a gift. It is Tmobile HTC HD7 and you are suprised that it is asking for a activation key.
And keep the conversation going on saying that thats something new and nice. And ask them to give you the key orelse you cannt use ur phone.
And one more thing. tell them that you are calling from other phone.

I did it via online chat and they didn't even ask me what model I just said I needed an activation key for my Windows Phone...

You're recieving that error because before entering the activation code you should've unlocked your phone using ChevronUnlocker.
So I ordered an HD2 from Ebay, with WP7 installed and activated, however the seller said that he doesn't have the code anymore.
I have 2 questions:
Is the code generated for a Live account, or for a single device?
Is it stored somewhere after activation? If so, how do you get it?
Just call MS support, they will give you one without too many questions (for me it was only phone n° + email). Just say you bought a windows phone, which is asking for an activation code.
I don't think you can get a number back, you have to store it somewhere to be able to use it again. I think it is linked to a live account, which can have more than 1, but not 100% sure about it.

WP7 phones aren't officially sold in Russia, so I don't think I can get the code..

Hey guys, I called Russian MS support, and they gave me the activation code!

Could you please tell me the toll free number for activating in India?
Go to MS website, look for contact at the bottom, then by phone.
You will get a number, maybe not free but cheap
Call them, try to get somebody as fast as you can (usually I press many times '*') and ask for the number of the activation service, which should be a local or free call..
Please excuse my ignorance. I've searched the forums and haven't found anything.
Has anyone found an API or a way to block specific phone calls or at least send them automatically to voice mail?
I know this isn't possible on a stock ROM, but there has to be a way to automatically reject a call somehow.
If you're using your Windows 8 system for taking phone calls, you're probably confused. If you can't tell the difference between the Windows 8 forum and the Windows Phone 8 forum, you're definitely confused. Admittedly, Microsoft's branding sucks, but please do note that the name of the OS on your phone is "Windows Phone" not "Windows".

I am developing a simple window phone 8.1 application which need to go through registration process and for this registration process I want to use Phone number and IMEI number.
But recent document from Microsoft and Other knows sources have mentioned both Phone number and IMEI number API from Microsoft has been removed and we will not be able to get hold of these values due to security and privacy reasons.
I am using C#, Visual Studio 2013 Express edition for this application development.
Well, if this is the case what recommendation can you provide us for registration process which is simple and easy. Based on this registration processor the user will get notifications he/she has opted for. Hence we need the phone number which needs to be captured.
Also, everyone's question is how Viber, WhatsApp and other messaging application how are they doing it?

User have to enter his phone number in WhatsApp. It's a legal way.
