Japan Useage - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Does anyone know for certain if the M600/Prophet will work in Japan?
Looking at the Orange international useage it says the M600 won't workbecause you need a quad band phone...I thought the M600 was quad band so why won't it work?
Does anyone also know if you can buy a pay as you go SIM for use while in Japan?

As far as I know Japan use a totally different protocol for their mobile phone. Most of the phone will not work (tri and quad). Unless, I think there are some company there supports GSM phone which works on 'normal' GSM phone, but I think these GSM phone companies are not that popular in Japan.
You need to check the telco company on this matter.. or post at a forum where people may have been to japan ... OH.. here is a good forum (I'm so lame)
Anyway, try asking Asukal on this matter.

No 3G on Orange Universal?

Hi, I'm looking for a 2nd hand Universal and so I found a guy selling it for what I find a very good price... but the catch is that he says it won't be able to connect to 3G networks:
these are refurbished and we made sure that phone will work with all networks (except 3G).
What I wanted to ask is: how could this be possible? how would it be able to connect to standard 2G networks and not 3G? would it be a software issue? Would I be able to fix that?
hmm, i dont think its possible that the 3g is broken but the 2g isnt, as afaik they are the same chip. however it is common knowledge that universals wont work with the phone operator '3' (unless you have a very old sim card) o perhaps this is where the confusion is, best bet is to ask the seller.
Hope this was of some help

Thanks.... That's what I thought... Since he is a UK seller he is probabily talking about UK Operators... here in Portugal we don't have problems with using unlocked phones bought from other operators.. even though Vodafone do use newer CompV2 SIM cards (though I still have a old CompV1)

I must have been misinformed, i was under the impression that 3 used different sim-cards and so couldnt be compatable with non-3 phones.

The Dream are all equal?

Good evening to all. has been a while I'm thinking of buying a Dream, and I'm looking at the prices in stores. I buy it again seems a bit expensive, so I turned to ebay and I saw that second-hand cost rather less. Now I'm wondering though: if I buy it outside of my country, like in America or in Germany (for example) can still use it in my country? or just not working. I ask this because I am about to go on holiday in America and I do not know whether to buy or not ...... You know where this goes from country to country?
be careful on eBay, lots of look alike phones are appearing! Make 100% certain it is truly a HTC phone!
No, that's ok it is that you resemble is fine, but for sure I care what you purchase, I do not want to buy it is a clone. However, then the Dream are all equal?
Ebay is ebay. People are trying to get the most money for their item. Some people will start lower prices than other. Some people are luckier and have more people interested and bidding higher. Some items are in better physical condition.
As others have said, don't accidentally buy a clone. They are VERY sneaky. You need to watch out for all the details and features and make sure nothing is missing.
But I am sure however that a German or American Dream can go well in my country?
the dream is a world phone, so it's going to work anywhere (gprs data, hsdpa data is only the frequency that T-Mo us runs, i think)
There are no differences between dream devices, other than the motherboard they come equiped with, and this can be the difference between been able to root and getting a brick if you try, but, again, afaik, they all come with the puny 192 mb ram and 256 mb nand flash.
I'm not sure which you want but they are NOT the same, the rogers dream will work on att 3g the tmo g1 is tmo 3g only, make sure the frequencies on the phone match your carriers...
All dreams should work, its a matter of how quickly (ie 3g or not)

Thanks for answers. If I had to take it, take the Dream brand T-Mobile or AT&T, or directy unlocked

There is no ATT branded device.
ALL dream *except* rogers will work 3G *everywhere except* ATT/Rogers. ATT/Rogers are oddball carriers with frequencies that don't match anywhere else.
Note that asides from the frequencies, there are devices with different KEYBOARD LAYOUTS. Most will have QWERTY layout (i.e. from english-speaking places), there are also QWERTZ layout (German), and I don't know what layout is used from French-speaking places (AZERTY?).
if you live in europe it would almost make more sense to buy a tmobile g1
the tmobile version has both wcdma 1700 and 2100 bands....and 2100 should work where you are...so you won't lose 3g in the deal like you would with the rogers dream

A "tmobile g1" *** IS A DREAM ***, so your statement reads as "it would almost make more sense to buy a dream [than a dream]", which has absolutely no meaning.
And quit calling it a "tmobile g1"... tmobile is NOT the manufacturer, and "g1" is NOT the model name -- "tmobile g1" is just tmobile's way of pretending that they actually had something to do with something and tricking people into contracts and limitations on features.
As someone who is becoming rather aggravated about the continuing lack of ETA for the Tilt 2 I was wondering if a Rogers version of the Dream would be a good alternative for me?
Specifically I am looking for a smartphone with a bigger screen than my 8525, a physical keyboard, wifi, the ability to surf the web and use Logmein to access PC's, and the ability to read various ebooks (txt's, doc's, rtf's, lit's, pdf's, etc). I would also like to be able to listen to mp3's on headphones and play some bejewelled/popit style games however these are less important. I am also restricted to the AT&T network as my cellphone is on my company's AT&T plan (which is why I was thinking that the Rogers version of the Dream would be better than the other versions as from what I understand it should allow it to be compatible with the 850/1900 band?)
Anyways, I was wondering if the Rogers version of the Dream would meet my requirements or if there are any other Android phones that might do so? Thanks in advance for any information and advice and sorry if I'm not asking this in the correct place.
Yes.

anything i need to worry about before getting the HD2 from US

hello all
it costs around $900 here and it will cost half that unlocked from t-mobile on the 24th. is there anything i need to worry about before ordering it for a friend from the states and using it here (Saudi Arabia). we use 2100mhz+900mhz for our 3G band so it should work fine here
anything else i need to worry about before i order it?
i dont think it'll work on saudi 3g, Tmobile uses 1700/2100, not 900. you need both bands to work
are you sure about the two bands thing
i had a t-mobile HTC G1 and 3G worked fine
that's odd, because phones that only share the 2100 band do not work on Tmobile. Perhaps its different the other way around.
the 3g of the g1 (1700/2100) and the Nexus1 (900/1700/2100) both work on our STC/mobily network. i assume the US-HD2 will be the same but i could be wrong cant anybody else confirm. i cant possibly be the only here intrested taking advantage of the US super cheap price
Well, you are not alone but I don't think anybody can confirm one way or another with 100% accuracy. I for one will buy it and then try to use it in Europe (i.e. 2100 MHz UMTS). Like you I've noticed that G1 has exactly the same specs for the radio. It also makes sense that HTC and T-mobile would like to support international roaming. All being said, there is always a chance that things are different this time. I tried to contact both HTC and T-mobile and I received contradictory answers. The only way to be sure is to try it or wait for somebody to report real-world use cases
anyone managed to test this yet?

western europe for 5 weeks...international sim cards?

so after doing exhaustive research on the subject I was not able to find a definitive thread or answer on the subject of using international sim cards on an unlocked g2. I'm hoping someone here at xda has experience with this and is able to give me advice.
I'm going to be backpacking europe for 5 weeks and want to bring my g2 to use as a computer (while connected to wifi) and making rare calls (just to check in with people at home), htc's website says this phone is quad band and umts http://www.htc.com/us/products/t-mobile-g2#tech-specs but I've never traveled so I'm not sure what to make of it.
any help would be very appreciated!!
edit: called tmobile and they were no help at all, the rep was reading off a script that didnt have much info. looking for personal experience please!
Hi,
G2/Desire Z as you rightly point out will be able to deal with mobile networks in Europe.
The problem you face is that a Sim from county 1 will work Ok in that country but will attract data roaming charges in all other european countries.
That's unless you negotiate something with the operator prior to your purchase regarding both mobile data and call roaming charges.
Chances are you will get a better deal from maybe Germany or perhaps france. Check them both on the web and also check the uk operators and see where you get..
Des. . .
Essential: WHEN will you be going? Because TMO Germany is about to bring up an Europe-wide (or at least Western Europe) roaming-charges-free card. I'll look it up and answer asap. Hold on.
EDIT: TMO Travel & Surf does not include (or not even feature? Not clear from the Article I read) calls. Sorry. PLUS the Prices seem not really good to me. I haven't found anything you're looking for in Germany yet. Could do with it as well. Greez, mwrsa
I will be travelling march-april. I guess what my question is, once they send me my unlock code and I unlock my phone to use the international sim, I will not be tied at all to tmobile or their roaming charges unless I put my original sim card back in the phone is that correct?
does anyone have any recommendations what carriers are the best? I'll be going to UK, France, Netherlands, Germany, Czech, and Spain
well I can't speak for europe I'm currently out of my home country with my DZ, I unlocked it with gfree, which I would reccomend. also its definetly cheaper to use a local simcard from where every you are travelling, there's no getting around roaming charges and insane rates if your going international. I personally picked up a free ATT card here where I am and paid 20 bucks for 100mb of data, since calling and texting is still expensive I communicate through "whatsapp" with my wife and family . it worrks on data or wifi, let's u send and receive pics and videos and uses a surprisingly tiny amount of data to do so. id honestly reccomend this route so long as your family has a whatsapp compatible device, currently its available for blackberry, droid, and iphone.
sorry I can't be more help but with "real life" experience I found this to be the best route. if u need voice, its still cheaper to pickup a 20dollar long distance calling card and use the hotel phones. or skype app when your on wifi.
hope it helps a bit! and have a safe trip!

Problem is, that at least with German SIM-Cards, you need an adress here in germany ti register the card to your name. Austria and GB have "3" as a network operator. AFAIK they have a sim-card with no roaming fees where "3" is available as a network.
Hi,
I'll be going through europe this summer. The suggestion of getting a local PAYG sim is good, on the face of it. Unless you are going to be in that country for just a few days (as I will be) then, perhaps, it is more aggravation to get the sims than pay roaming.
A sim from Germany - if it was to include some country roaming - from either O2 or T-Mobile or even Voda - may be an answer.
Very much depends on how long you will be in each country I guess.
A week+ stay in each country, and a sim from each country when you get there could week prove to be your way forward.

HI,
This is worth a read. Gives you some idea as to prices and amounts:
Roaming Data Charges - UK Accounts...

As far as band compatibility, the important thing is that your phone is compatible with the bands used in Europe. Looks like Europe uses the 900 and 1800 MHz GSM bands just about everywhere for voice, and UMTS 2100 for 3G. The G2 has GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900; and UMTS 1700/2100, 2100. So you're good to go as far as the hardware compatibility.
International sim card
Hello!
Have you ever heard about international sim cards? In my opinion is the best solution to save on roaming charges!
Personally I use WorldSIm, they have both a UK and US number in the same sim card and have free incoming calls in over 90 countries.
There are more like this in the market but I can only speak about what I already now and I'm very happy with.
Hope it helps!

Hi, I can confirm that even you have it UICC unlocked, it won't work with China Mobile/Unicom/Telecom.
Service status will be SEARCHING always.

Sprint could unlock the phone for oversea use only for their customer and the phone need to be activated with Sprint at least 30 days. I am afraid we couldn't help you.

I tried to contact sprint customer service, They told even their phone is unlocked, they still can not use other carrier's sim card. BUT as we can see sprint iphone 6 and 6+ are oversea unlocked in China, and supporting China Mobile TD-LTE bands( Band 38 ,41).
Let's see this phone, when I got into the hidden menu, I figured out that 306sh is support TD-LTE band 41, That's means if it is oversea unlocked (like iPhone 6 example). It is possible that 306sh also is oversea unlocked, the best carrier for support 306sh is China Mobile (TD-LTE), China Telecom (CDMA 1X, CDMA ev-do REV A, TDD-LTE, FDD -LTE), Softbank (Japan FDD-LTE, TDD-LTE, HSPA+).
I ll try take it to have a oversea test. Let's wait.
According to your saying, technically we could unlock it to use in China and Japan.

In theory, I have to say it could be oversea unlocked. However, if we want to use the phone oversea. We have to concern about two issues.
First, the phone had better be unactivated. I am not sure we can use a CDMA phone burned some carriers information on abroad. So an unactivated aquos is more likely can be used oversea.
Second, If we use china mobile's network, I don't think the phone can make a call. that because, china mobile is a gsm carriers, they do not support CDMA phone. Only thing we can use from china mobile is their TD-LTE network. So if we insert CMCC sim card, the phone will become a web only phone that is unable to make a call. Or if China Mobile has VoLTE technology. On the other hand, China Telecom's network will be a best choice for 306sh. Cauz China Telecom's 2g 3g 4g network is exactly same with Sprint network. Let's see, softbank. the situation is a little bit similar with China Mobile. Softbank also is a GSM carrier, but Softbank they do not have 2G network, about 10 year ago, Japan closed all their 2G network, that's means, Softbank do not have GSM GPRS and EDGE. for replacement, they have WCDMA, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA+, FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE, so aquos also is very suitable to Softbank in Japan.
Let's waiting for the test.
