i'm resurrecting this thread because im sure theres plenty more Athena users out there now, and thus far I havent found an Advantage setup im happy with, so show me what you got

I was wondering if any one has a screen shot of the virtual keyboard in regular res? I would like to see how it compares in size to my hermes.

where did you get that qa3 skin ? or is it custom made? can you link ?

Here is my today.
Done with rlToday in XML. Most of the icons are home made. The layout and everything is pretty much from scratch.

I dont use Athena.. but .. here u go ..

This requires WA2/WA3 and WAD. You will need to put together the skin for WAD.

This is my X7501's desktop using Wisbard 3 and Rockabilly's ClearGloss skins, with ye olde Weatherpanel and SPB PocketPlus.

Notes:
Screenshot_1: all the pics in the background updates randomly every 10mins; the buttons on the right side toggles (shows/hides) when I press that area; the wifi/bluetooth/missedcalls/etc notification changes icons upon activation.
Screen10: same as Screenshot_1, but doesn't change the wallpaper; the weather satellite image updates every 12hrs (phone goes online and gets the updated image from my webserver [which has a code that crops the weather.com Asia image into just Philippines]).
Screen08: this is what I am using now; ringtones complete with super mario mixes; love it.
Screen007: I used this when I first got (borrowed acutally, company-issued, sigh) a Macbook Pro, and I just tried copying the look-and-feel; the single photo one the left side changes every 10mins; the weather satellite images changes too, same logic with Screen10.
I'll create a new one in the future.

I am looking for a good Today Screen software.
I already tried the not-freeware "spd 3d flow" or something like that trial.
It's a really cool surface.
But which Today Screen Software is the best? (Freeware if it's possible)

Try Ultimate launcher (do a search on forum to download latest version).. Its free but does have nagware. No problem as it just has "unregistered" in all four corners in different colours. Its pretty decent if the whole cube thing is your choice though you do get other options too. Pretty customizable but you do need to do some reading. LOTS of cool themes made by other members available too.
Thats my favourite freeware but I run SPB shell as I like the fomat better( where else can I have a Mario Bros. theme...)

WAD or MS?

Hi peoples,
ever since I've had a WM device (first one was 2 years ago) I've used Mobile Shell. I hate TF3D as it seems to be all form and no function, where as MS has everything I need within a few clicks.
The downside to MS is the sever lack of themes (I can't help it, I like to change the way my phone looks from time to time)
So I'm thinking towards WAD instead. Has anyone else made the shift from MS to WAD? did you find it better or worse?
I like the now screen in MS and wonder if the same things is available in WAD? it's the first thing I see when I switch my phone on, number of messages, emails or missed calls, details of appointments, weather etc. it's the best screen there is. Will I be able to get a WAD theme with the same info?

I moved from MS to WAD as I don't like the lack of configuration in MS. WAD is a different matter. You can make it look like you want to. You could snapshot all the icons from MS and then import them into WAD for whatever look you want!!

Wad vs MS
Have been using Wad now on Winmo devices since it first came out. With all the effort Chris as put into WAD ver 2, I would now consider it to be the best theme software out there, a high level of functionally and with a little (or a lot, depends on what you want) of graphic work can make your device look fantastic and unique.
So yes with WAD you can have all of what you want [messages, emails or missed calls, details of appointments, weather etc] plus more on your WVGA home screen, how about battery, storage, signal meters, a two month calander, two or three time zones, weather for 1/2/3 or more days etc. It is so flexible now with multiple pages, it is up to you.

I think I may be missing something with WAD2... They offer a 14 day trial and I loaded it yesterday very excited to try MALLMAN's Vista theme and was REALLY disappointed by the sluggishness of WAD2... I did not try anything to speed it up like closing TouchFlow and my S2P/S2U2 apps... am I missing something?

I've also just got the trial..and yup..it's sluggish.
In MS I just clicked the sms icon and I'm in my inbox...with WAD i takes 5 seconds or more from the moment I wake my device from stand by to when the icon responds.
maybe it's just me but that's not really acceptable. I'm going to try a couple of themes as the basic one is awful and needs a lot of configuration to make it useable.
Yes I know that seems to contradict my first post, but here's the thing
MS works well but is a pain is the neck to customise
WAD can be customised to hell, but looks a pain in the neck to do it!!
I guess I just can't win

I've found the same thing. Touch Flow is not very friendly. MS is really quick but not very flexible. WAD2 looks great but is soooo slow.
Has anyone got any tweaks to speed up WAD2?

hi everyone,
i also tested WAD2, can feel that it is really sluggish. initially, i thinking to install this to replace touchFLO 3D, cos TF3D eat up a lot RAM. but, after i tested the WAD2 by turning off the TF3D, seems like WAD2 also slow and eat up a lot of RAM.
i tested SPB Mobile Shell 2.1.4 few weeks back, but feel it is little bit incompatible with HD. when i open some folder in my HD, it took very long time to load. any of you here feel any incompatible? or it is just my own problem?

yup..I'm starting to agree about the sluggishness. I've also experienced faster battery depletion since I installed WAD2.
There other things that have disappointed me about it too. Looks like I might have to stick with MS for now.

hi, do you feel that MS 2.1.4 is little imcompatible with HD? i have MS in my phone, but sometimes when i open the folder, it will take very long time to load.

I too installed last night WAD to test it, as i found some nice vista themes i needed to check. The default theme is way too slugish, why did they even release it in the first place?
I too installed MALLMAN's vista theme and although it is not perfect you can customize it a lot and add or remove your own items. I guess it needs a lot of search, since some windows' functions cannot be found in the lists.
The coolest and detailed theme seems to be Mobile Vista Revisited [QVGA], but as the title suggests is only qvga.

Which according to you is the best Panel to use on SEX1 ?

Which one is the best according to you for regular use? (not asking for listening to music or using FB)

at the moment i prefer PointUI Home2, i think the Pro version is gonna be great, if more plugins keep coming

Pointui Home2 is the best by far.
Its easy to use,
install direct as a pannel no messing about,
very Fast,
easy to change themes,
applets are awesome just pick what ones you need,
very fast releases on new themes and applets,
exellent support from the site
and best of all its all free.
they are even working on a music applet to play music from the home screen.
other pannels seem slow, un customisable and dont have all the features you need.
i have mannila pannel, navigation pannel and the generic pannels supplied. mannila is good but hard to customise.
i like the fish pannel but its not practical, just good for showing off.

The best is the original SE Panel (1, 2, MxP, etc).
TF3D is less responsive, and once installed, make the X1 very slow (compared to an original X1) in many action.

I also think that PointUI Home2 is the best panel ... I hardly ever use touchflow .. every now and then spb mobile shell however the one I use the most is probably the standard today screen with resco contact manager etc.
Generally I switch between panels a lot though ... its great fun

I don't like PointUI and I find TF3D not well adapted yet
I love the fish panel, and chicks love it too

the fish thingy is good for entertaining my kid... thats about it
i think the whole concept of panels is just stupid:
-slow and poorly implemented and programed takes about 10 seconds to do something that can easily be done 2 seconds with a shortcut
-to me, its seems only good to show off to dumb friends.
-not good for practical use. none of the x1 uesers i know depend on it
-im sure sony delayed the release of the phone at least 3-4 months just to get it working fine.... they never did and even if they did, no one really cares

I love the panels.
I constantly switch between 2 SE Panels, one of them rich of functions and apps,
the other plain and esthetic.
I also love the Media panel.
Definitely great concept for me, since you can have completely different homescreens, with all apps available still through the normal menus.

@ GRIZZ, you're missing the point if you think you're supposed to use the panels to go from program to program. I love the panels because I use them sort of like profiles. For work I use the original SE Panel and PointUI, for weekends and evenings I'll use PointUi or occasionally Manilla and for bedtime I use the fish panel. I'm not constantly changing panels during the day, only as I transition from work to play, etc.
BTW, the PointUI qualifies for me as the "best in show" for the reasons mentioned by the previous poster.

am using Pointui Home2 and waiting for the next update in the next 48hrs which has loads of new features making it even easier and more intuitive to use... was a huge spb fan but found it too plain - Home2 is totally customizeable and with the development community releasing new themes and apps every day its become easier to use than anything else so far...

I'm with the Grizz - panels are pretty silly. The concept isn't bad, but it never feels right to use a button press, then a screen press (or two), then wait 10 more seconds for the panel to creep up.
If the X button could just shuffle through them quickly, they would be great.
I'm not sure I understand why SPB mobile shell can snap between screens instantaneously, but when I switch to an SE panel, I can almost see each individual icon being drawn...

yeah! you heard it right. it is the best. if i want more information i use today plugins. it is the most efficient way ofgetting the information i want. all other panels i use them to impress people. especially manila touchflo3d. its more annoying than useful.

i think mobile shell panel is the best. it's easy to use and has very good gui.

SPB MS 3 Weather - Any better out there?

I own a new Omnia, and am considering getting SPB Mobile Shell 3 - it seems to be the best one so far I have tried on the Omnia. With one important exception - the weather stinks! Owning a Titan before and using WBA, Titanium (on WM6.5), it seems a real disappointment to have SPB displaying weather that only shows the high/low temp for the day when these others can show hourly or real-time updates!
So I will ask the question: Anyone out there developed some wiz-bang app, widget or whatever that will show on the SPB MS 3 and replace their really lousy weather app? I did some searching but didn't come up with anything concrete.

Doesnt SPB have their own weather app? I imagine that will integrate much better with their shell.

Yes SPB has is own weather app that, in my opinion is very good, and integrates perfectly with mbs 3.

I like the WPActivate widget made by storyr at ppcgeeks. It uses WeatherPanel and displays the current temp, etc. in MS3. Pressing it takes you to weatherpanel which gives you lots of weather details, radar, etc. You find it here.
