The GPS function was disabled in Trinity and may be it will got a chance to re-enable it. But how about the USB Host function? Is there any way to enable it?
u have to buy an htc adaptor
I don't believe it, an adaptor?
I think it will be activated with a rom-update
Energie: source for that comment..?
I too think a rom-update is the thing...
Is their any word about the USB-Host in the new update?
What do you mean by "USB Host" ? I mean, that is hardware related thing so if you want to connect eg. flash disk to Trinity you must have some kind of adapter to do that, am I wrong?

Yeah i think you're wrong.
It was said it was hardware implemented already (just like the GPS) but it just had to be activated with the new rom (just like the GPS)...
Any News anyone?
if we use this device http://cgi.ebay.de/USB-2-0-OTG-On-T...160683QQihZ016QQcategoryZ131881QQcmdZViewItem
does that mean, i can connect my trinity directly to a mobile USB HDD and access say 250 GB of music or pictures or movies?
Guys, STOP. There shouldn't be any USB host in Trinity, because if it has one, where would you find an idiot to buy any other PDA phone??????? That would kill the market. Even without USB host it's one of the best machines around. LOOX T830 was the only machine to have GPS and 3G, but it's a monster...
Trinity is the only PDA to ombine Wi-Fi, BT, 3G (inc. HSDPA), and GPS. Asking for USB host would be to much I'm afraid...
is this something you think or do you have proof?
Cuz this page says the trinity does have USB-OTG...
http://translate.google.com/transla...&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=/language_tools
Look at the second page, last part....
Well actually I want USB-Host (didnt know Trinity had the ability until today), Fm Radio (still not sure if there is a build in FM Radio Chip but Chinese site states it), and I want Airbag, ABS, DVD reader/writer (double sided ... no, better Blue Ray Disc), a Coffee machine, two bathrooms and an pop out 23 inch screen for TV...
It is a great device.
Well dudes, why do you keep on whining? The topic starter asks a serious question. You all keep posting crap. Please quit it, we all want answers.
I only know that the chip does support USB-OTG, but if it's hardware implemented? We don't know at the moment. But if it is, it's up to HTC to enable it.
Well, can someone explain to me what is USB Host and what good is it for?

What a smart guy, instead of posting stupid, useless reply maybe you can try again and find some info back in the dark corners of your brain?

I do not see any mention of the HTC Trinity or USB Host.. but that could change
Man, that's exactly what I want to see with this question, many of you don't know either what USB host is and what is it for?! You keep posting things about hidden features in Trinity and moaning about it everyday but actually don't know what good it will get you, very strange.
So, smart guys, what will you do with your "USB Host" enabled Trinity ?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the Trinity can act as a Host, you could connect an external HDD to it and transfer files. Or you could connect a memory card reader to empty your camera's card on the move.

I love this forum. I have learn't so much so far, but still have a lot to learn. Epecially programming for WM. Anyway, on to the reason for posting this thread.
Since learning that I could flash from my microSD card thanks to the tutorial by renaming the *.nbh to KAISIMG.nbh and placing it in the root folder. I have been making custom 1st splash screens to flash remotely as well as making a directory on my microSd ("Flashing from MicroSD") and creating directories for original roms such as (\WM6 Originals\Alex\KAISIMG.nbh) or (\WM6.1\SleuthV3\KAISIMG.nbh), (I also have KAISIMG for just Radios under a different folder) so when I want to try a new rom, flash a different radio or splash, I can at anytime.
Here's the thing I love using the splash tools (maker and converter) and Rom Builder. But obviously you need a PC. Would anyone by able to recreate a mobile version of these tools so we could do most things (customisation wise) whilst we are mobile.
I.E. I want to make and flash a new splash whilst mobile from a *.jpg. I could use this program to convert to .bmp format needed, then convert to *.nb thsn to *.nbh. I could then use a file manager to rename to KAISIMG.nbh then place in microSD root folder and flash.
What you think? Would this be too hard to do? Anyone want more mobile control of your mobile customisation?
Other tools that could be ported would also help. I make the welcome.96.png with my mobile graphics problems.
Well for the moment I'll stick to making several themed splash into the KAISIMG.nbh to flash remotely (making sure you have enough battery mind/dont flash on 10% or something/I recommend over 10% for mobile flashing your splashes and over 50% for you WM Roms)
Got a collection of around 19 Slide out Keyboard sounds inc Knightrider, Thundercats, Xbox 360 boot sound and others. When I have a couple more made I'll post my Sliding keyboard Sounds.cab if anybody wants it over the next Couple of days. (Some sounds gathered from other users share i.e. Mario etc) See this post for my collection of sounds: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372999
Thanks anyway. Feel free to post your views and look forward to seeing if anyone is up to this challenge..

OTG
Ok, here I go again. How about this??
I have a mini-usb to female USB connector which came with my Archos AV700TV for OTG (On The Go). Which allows me to insert my 4GB usb stick into the Archos. Where I can play, copy, delete or edit anything on the stick.
These connectors don't cost a lot and in my point of view would be a great advantage to those of us that want to Flash our Roms and Splash screens etc whilst we are at work or as a passenger in a car. I would like to leave my memory card with just my programs and music.
By having OTG on our devices I/we could keep all our KAISIMG.nbh (Orginal Roms, Custom Roms, Roms we are trying, Radios, Splash) All on a Usb stick, just lease a Maximum of 150MB on memory card. So that when you want to Flash a Rom. You connect your usb stick via small (mini-usb to female usb) into Kaiser (or other/I'm not Phonist) And use either an already existing filemanager (Resco/Total Commander etc) or created app (developed for sole OTG purpose) to copy \Custom Rom\Alex\WM6.1\Version 3\KAISIMG.nbh to the root of your memory card. Disconnect usb stick boot into bootloader and flash image.
You could also keep all your backup .cab files on the stick and perhaps ask the writer of Tier Auto Install to allow these to be read off such a device as a usb stick using (OTG).
And at only a guess if OTG was created for our phones I'm sure they could possible support higher size usb sticks than our microSDHC cards.
Only an Idea though. CAN ANYONE HELP?????
The USB OTG protocol is a hardware thing. Most WM devices do not have the ability to host a USB port, and so cannot initiate the connection needed to acheive what you want.

Never Mind then just thought with it being (Universal Serial Bus) I thought we could perhaps do something along the lines of WM5Storage. Thought it'ld just be a driver plus writing a relevant protocal script.
Thanks for the input anyway.

Yes you said and I submitted. No harm in extra reading material as this is something I'm interested. Besides there is nothing much else to do in Blackpool at the moment.
Gonna go read..

Who knows!! LOL
Gonna, try and by a cheap otg hd with built in led and see if it picks up the phone, maybe using the WM5Storage program so the otg hd might recognise it as the otg drive would be the host and has the hardware.
Even if it works, a bit bigger than something that can be carried around the neck...
I'm Bored...

Yeah, tried just now it comes up with portable storage device connected, but has some kind of error "USB Device could not be read correctly. Please try again".
It charges my phone though, so that a positive at least. Can use it as a portable battery pack as I take my archos everywhere. And I can charge that at work.
Maybe the error is caused because the phone has multiple memory types: Flash, microSD. Maybe it needs some software to point it in the right direction.???

Yes, I have version 1.8. Don't know if this is recent and I'm using WM6.1 (Sleuth V3)
It reads card via card reader though via otg.
Ah, Softtick Card Export Works fine direct to archos. Still not quite what I was after but would sufice.
I gotta get me one of those...

Hy everyone,
First of all, thanks for this great forum which never fails to impress me.
I have a question which some of you might help answering: I'm wondering if it's possible to use the mini-usb port of my smartphone to get some data input.
Let me explain myself a bit more: I know that smartphones (HTC Touch for me) aren't USB hosts. However, the data connexions are still present.
Here's what I'd like to do: even though the smartphone can't control another peripheral, I'd like that external peripheral to send data to the smartphone, and the smartphone to use that data to control the screen. That would give an alternative way of controlling the screen.
The input would come from another touch surface, so my guess is that using the data to control the screen shouldn't be much of a problem.
So? Any idea if it's possible? What kind of platform/language would be nice to do that? C#?
(I have JAVA development experience, but I'm quite a newbie as far as Win Mobile devs are concerned. I'm willing to learn though
I think I searched this forum (and others) quite extensively before posting. If by any chance I missed a related post, I'd be glad to know about it
No ideas? Anyone?
Last up before I stop...
prob. not
i dont think that is technically possible. i think one has to be the host, and that host provides power. so to power the input device(im thinking keyboard) it would need the smartphone/ppc to be a host....
but i have no clue in this area...maybe someone could prove me wrong?
Hey, thanks for your answer.
The powering issues could be overcomed by cutting the cables and giving power from an external power source (I think several people have tried doing it, I need to find the links again). By the way, the peripheral itself is plugged on 110V, so there's plenty of available power
I'm not seeking here to "control" the device, just to aquire the signal it's sending... Does that seem feasible, or does the peripheral need to be somehow "activated" by a Host before sending anything?
Well, in order to get data, the host must ask the slave each time it needs some. Other things must be done by the host, like usb enumeration. That means there has to be a host or it won't work, unless you use usb on-the-go, but I do not know many devices that support it.
according to the qualcomm website, the msm chipsets support otg
Hello everyone, I have a couple of questions to ask all of you great phone gurus
**If this is the wrong forum for this sort of thread, I apologize in advance**
Basically I have ruined the USB connection on my Touch Cruise. I am wanting to know if there is any way I can access my files on the phone by having it connected to my wireless network at home (ie a program or something I can run on my PC.) Reason I ask is I am trying to edit the HTC weather Plugin to show my location (Lebanon, OH, USA) and it is quite hard/impossible to do using the phone alone.
Second question is, is it possible to replace a damaged USB connector? I know it is probably ruined but I figure it might be worth a try. I had attempted to hook up my front USB header on my motherboard, but plugged them in backwards. I managed to salvage the phone by removing the actual USB piece from the phone and pulling the wires out. Luckily I am still able to use the phone (nothing else besides the USB connector is messed up) by purchasing an external battery charger + battery.
I know these are probably both a shot in the dark but any help anyone could provide would be GREATLY appreciated.
You can sync via bluetooth if you have it on your computer, or wifi search in google for that (ex: http://wifi.aximsite.com/sync.html)
I tought replace it will be very hard .
just out of curiosity could you please give us some screenshots as i'm having a real hard time understanding what you did and how it looks now? ^^
using bluetooth will help and maybe a card reader + microSD might speed things up. find a good file manager for WinMO
i doubt that there is any way to acces phones files through wireles so bluetooth is the only wireless (and supported) way
I don't have a camera currently but just look at your USB connection on your phone then imagine that there is absolutely nothing in it. It is just an empty 'rectangle'. No wires or the little horizontal piece that normally sits in there. Just an empty 'rectangle.'
Thanks for the replies. I am trying the wireless sync now.
Thanks a bunch
Hey the title kinda says it all. I've just been theorising a smidge in my head and wonder if I'm crazy. That or posting in wrong forum lol.
Anyways basically I started thinking about running kali or any other Linux on my s8 but if I remember correctly I had a ton of trouble setting up network adapter for pen testing use. What I'm wondering is if there is any way at all a usb WiFi such as a tp-link could be ran via a usb adaptor? Could be madness but id like it enough to throw my madness out for more knowledgeable opinions.
Thanks
Boogs ?
I can't give you an exact answer because what you're searching is very specific. But I will advise you 2 things :
1/ Rename your post because titled it "random question" is just useless
2/ If you don't find anything on Google, maybe you can just try and see You seem to have the knowledge to accomplish your wish so why not trying, it's not risky !
Good luck
