I am having the following problem:
Totally at random I receive this error message!!! I saw that I also get this message after using active sync, but also at various other moments!
I really don't know what to do about it anymore!
Can anyone help me out?
do what the thing says, enable your dhcp server. Or use a fixed ip.

Yeah, but HowTo...? Trying for a while now and still having the same problem...
Ip for Active Sync
I had exactly the same problem on my Prophet,
Basically this used to occur whenever I tried to connect with active sync.
Solution: Start-Settings-connections-network cards-remoteNDIS host
I have assigned fixed ip to both the device & my comp.
Device
fixed IP 169.254.2.1
Netmask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 169.254.2.1
PC
Ip 169.254.2.2
Netmask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 169.254.2.1

I am having a sh*t of a day with my Exec experience.
Not only have I lost sound, but I can only connect AS4 once with device and sync, and thereafter, it showing as not connected. And never connects.
I unistalled everything, included all PC Protection. Reinstalled AS4 it works. Reinstalled McAfee stuff, no USB connection.
When I first put Getting Started disc in my machine, it at first was looking for Office 2003 parts, saying they were missing etc.. so I kept cancelling until I got to the normal Getting Started Disc install menu.
I have Outlook 2003.
Any ideas, help, I am going insane.
Check that it's getting an IP address. It looks to your PC and asks for a DHCP address - so check your network connections and see if it's appearing.
If mcAffee has the firewall software included in it, it will be blocking the XDA Exec from making a connection because with ActiveSync 4 and WM5.0 it makes a network connection. You'll have to work out what IP Range the computer tried to assign to the XDA and then allow that to have permission to access your PC with-in McAffee....I could be way off but it seems like the most likely problem.

that's sounds logical, how would I find the ip address
well I'm not entirely certain on that one
*checks something*
Yep that works
open a command window (Start>Run>cmd) and enter
ipconfig /all
this will bring all all the information regarding your computers IP addresses in my instance it assigned 169.254.2.2 for Windows mobile-based device
I'm guessing that's the one you want, but the IP address assigned for your computer may be different. Then all you need to do is go into the trusted zones section of the MacAffee firewall config and allow that IP Address/Address range whichever it gives the option for...hope that helps

But, if his Exec using a DHCP client, doesn't it change the IP, or have the potential to?
True but on multiple connects of my XDA it has always assigned the same IP address, whilst it is DHCP it is probably programmed to always assign the same IP, much like with my router/PC set up my router is acting as a DHCP server but I have it set to always give my PC the same IP address. At the very least I imagine the IP address will always be assigned in the range of 169.254.2.xxx so if it does start assigning random IPs if necessary that whole range could be allowed
Hi guys
Every time my Trinity Sync with my PC I get the following error message:
"Unable to obtain server assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings"
Can someone please tell me what does it mean and how can I get rid of it. The synchronisation process works fine and all my data is synchronised OK.
Thank you

It seems there is a (second?) server assigned for syncing. In Active Sync look for Extras - Options and see how many "devices" are to be synced...
Its the same error like:

Are no any fixes to resolve known??????????
hi! this is apenning because you have been connected to a wireless network, using a proxy server, and when you connect your PDA to you computer, he try to reach this proxy server.
you sould disable it in connection settings.
hi all ppl, i was wondering if anyone could help with setting up a vpn on my home.
the router/firewall that acts as a server is a netgear dg834g and I would like to connect my HD. i never get to connecting and the errors are:
- when i use ip address it asks for log & password. I haven't set up any log/pass in the router as there is NO possibility to do that! then i try to login as administrator (from the local PCs) and the error is "the remote party has ended this connection." same thing if i leave both fields blank.
- when i use the dyndns alias everything happens the same way but the error msg i get then is "VPN server problems. Verify your username and password, and try again etc etc".
note that i have setup both machines to use ipsec with a pre-shared key which is typed correctly (it seems to be recognized/accepted by the router)
am i missing something stupid here or simply my router does not support winmo ?
any help/tip will be highly appreciated. thanks!
check the mac address filtering tables, or try to experiment with different authentications mode.
I want to visit this page on my server
http://192.168.2.53:8080/tma/majBtm/androidToDesktop
Since it's a dynamic IP, the above mentioned IP address keeps changing everytime I reset my connection. I replaced the IP with a DynDNS hostname I created
http://tmagrails.dyndns-ip.com/tma/m...droidToDesktop
However, I'm unable to access this page from a remote machine (any machine outside the server's network)
I was asked to forward the port 80 to 8080. I'm unable to do so as there is no port forwarding option in my router page. I use a UTStarcom UT300R2T modem/router.
Is there any workaround for this?
Please advice.

This IP Address is a local-only IP address.
IP addresses in the 192.168.x.x ranges cannot be accessed from the internet.
You need to port forward a particular port on your router, and map that to the internal address. Your router has an external facing IP address, and you need a router that supports DynDns in its control panel.
You can find your external IP via www.whatismyipaddress.com but to get this working you need to be able to setup an incoming port forward, so port 8080 is directed by your router to your PC. The DynDns is currently pointing to
tmagrails.dyndns-ip.com (117.192.174.157)
So you just need to somehow forward all incoming connections to port 8080 onto that desired computer, and give that machine a static IP address on the internal network via DHCP pre-allocation.
Is there a way to resolve the Android Domain Name (or is it host name?) with SAMBA?
I use "Samba Filesharing" (com.funkyfresh.samba) and since CM10 I have to use the (dynamic) IP address which changes quite often but would like to have a permanent network drive in my Windows Explorer.
Any solution?
Thank you.

You could assign/reserve one permanent ip adres for your defy in your network router. Just assign one specific ip adres to MAC adres of your defy in your router. That's how it'll get the same ip adres any time you connect to your network.
no access to the router but. thx
