Is it possible to use my own sounds (MP3) for alerts such as voicemail arrived on an SPV M3100.
I have the sounds alongside the standard ones in the Windows folder however when I go to select them it only presents the Windows standard set.
TIA
Trout
You need to convert them to .wav files as MP3s can only be used as ringtones.......not notifications and alerts.
Thank you - I will try that.
And I did and it worked perfectly

Ive managed to set my audio files as ringtones but is it possible to set them as a SMS recieved tone?
yip, put the file in the map windows on your mobilephone and choose this file as your receive email sound. PS: i didnt test it with wma but it must work!!!
I'm almost sure its the New sms option in the sounds and notifications , not the new e-mail one.
in fact you can choose sound for many notifications in settings/phone/other settings/ and chose email, sms, even msn messenger notification sound.
when i test it i can only choose my alien.wma
when i change the phonering in notifications
it's not present on the list if i choose sms recieve or mail recieve
You have to copy the file in the \Windows directory and il will then appear listed for SMS too
As far as I know (on XDA I), you can only assign wma files to ringtones. SMS tones need to be wav.
It seems they use different audio engines.
i've tried to copy it to windows and windows/rings
and non of those locations matter to the list of my
sms notification or any other non phone edition spc
notification for that matter
i tried that too, and i conclude that it's not possible to set wma files to sms notification... it has to be wav...

can we make the tone cut of with a push of a button.. my tone goes 4 ages and i cannot cut it of when im reading my msgs!
Folks, iam not so familiar with Smartphones yet. I tried to set a ring tone for incoming SMS. There are some sounds selectable in a Listbox. I choose one and press the play button but i can not hear any sound.
What do i wrong? Where are these sounds to find in the directory structure?

HTC Wizard is a Pocket PC not a Smartphone. What brand do you have?

add ne .wav file into the windows directory then go to... Start -> Settings -> Sound & Notifications -> Notifications -> Event: Messaging: New text message... and they shud b in the drop down list
I have got the thing: you have to activate in sounds and notification (the first tab): check programs and check notification
After this it works.
Still doesn't work
I have tried to copy my .wav files into every available directory, but can't find them back in the pull-down menu.
Also, I cannot find any Windows directory on my MDA VARIO.
Any help?
yeah, where are sounds supposed to be located for the other (non phone ring) events to "see" them in the Sounds & Notifications list?
i put some sounds in both Rings and My Music and the non-phone ring events just don't see them (phone ring event does)!
Damn MSFT, why do they have to make simple things difficult!
Found it!
The non-ringtone sounds should be copied in the Windows directory, which can be found in the Explorer of your PDA/MDA. Also the Windows directory can be found if you have set up your Active-Sync correctly.
Just click my Mobile device and then the Windows directory should appear.
Works for me perfect! anyone with some cool *.wav's?
I only seem to be able to select different sounds for the phone ringer.
Maybes I'm a bit too drunk, but I thought there was a way to do this.
I have a nice Star Trek sound for when you send a SMS and get the confirmation message.
Cheers,
Joe
Checkout Start | Settings | Personal | Sounds & Notifications - that's where I set up my Star Trek sound for incoming SMS
Cheers,
Steve.
Hi,
I did go there (sober now) but only saw the default options. In rings, I see my custom tones, but for messages, I don't.
Do they have to be put into a particular folder on the device?
Joe
just copy them into the windows folder. If the file format is ok, you'll be able to choose them as a message signal.
Many thanks, putting into the \windows folder did the trick.
Just my hangover to deal with now..... :?
It will only work in .wav format....are they .mp3 you are putting in the windows folder?
They were wavs, just not in the right folder.
Interstingly though, only certain types of wav format play on the device.
Some smaller sized wav formats demanded by P910 type symbians won't play on WM.
Joe
Yo all,
This may have been posted before but i can't find where! Please point me in the right direction if it has!
Anyhow, is there any way of setting custom MP3's or WAV's as a notification such as New Email, and New MMS.
I have heard of Ringo but i believe that only caters for standard ringtone and sms alerts (please correct me if i'm wrong)
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Peace!
It has been but I am too lazy to find it, u can create a wav file an put it in the windows folder(pretty sure), then u can select it from the drop down list.
Ringo.....more so if you were a palm user is that useful
in WM5 you can only use MP3 files as ringtones and not SMS/MMS/Email alerts. You (however) can use .wav files as alerts. Convert your alerts into .wav files (leave your ringtones as MP3s) and copy them all into the windows folder on the device.
The alerts and tones will be available now in the "start>settings>sounds & notifications" menu.
In WM6 you can use MP3s as both alerts and ringtones.
I myself was surprised by the lack of MP3 alerts in WM5.
Yo,
Cheers for the info, however i did think about the copying a wav to the windows directory but it does not appear in the list.
Also i am using WM6 (Latest LVSW ROM 26/03/2007) but i cannot see where i can set the mp3's as alerts.
mmmmmm a little confused now lol
Don't worry about the WAV thing in windows directory, i have that working now (i was being daft!)
Also I tried copying over an mp3 sound and its now available in the drop down list too (me being daft springs to mind again)
Thanks for your help peeps and sorry if i wasted your time.
Peace!

Firstly, when you copy the files to Windows do this via activesync (hidden files and folders must be shown in windows on the pc). Next when you set the various alerts you select what event (ie Unread text message) and then select the alert options. An easy program to set several profiles is phonealarm.
i used ease audio converter to shrink the file and convert the mp3 to wav. works fine for me...
Just for clarification; On an WM6 I can still place the MP3 file I want to use for an sms alert in the Windows Folder? You mentioned that on WM5 you can place the wav files into the windows folder and it will work, is it the same for WM6 with an mp3 file?
Hi all,
I tried using Ringo so I could get different ring tones for different callers - of course, it didnt work as 90% of the time it loaded the default!
so I removed Ringo and now my O2 will not play an mp3 from file explorer or total commander
and will not recognise an mp3 ring tone at all even as the default now
its like Ringo is still associated with mp3's and since there is no ringo - the files arent recognised
the actual error message is "there is no application associated with ..."
I love my old mini and unfortuantely only have an old old backup - that will teach me - any help or suggestions would be much appreciated
it runs windows mobile 2003!
no progress
found the program - my extensions - and set up mp3's to run from windows media and now they play from file explorer
but still have the problem that no mp3 will run as a ring tone - i copied a file into /windows/rings - it appears on my list of tones to select in sound settings but when i press preview it is silent and then returns to windows default
any help at all would be much appreciated!!!!
search for mp3 ringtone patch for wm2003se
that should do it
doesnt work but thanks
i have the patch - when i go to file explorer and right click to set as ring tone - it doesnt do anything - doesnt change the ring tone in sounds settings and doesnt even add it to the list to choose - its as though i didnt do anything
thanks for the suggestion though!
