I recently used a cab to unhide the extended rom on my o2 mini s. That worked with no problem. When I try ti install programs to the rom they keep failing. Any idea?
ROM version: 2.26.10.2 WWE
ROM date: 6/7/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
Thanks
yes you can not write anything to the rom (Read only Memory). And if you search you can find some programmes that let you redo it, but if you dont know what you are doing i would not play!
Thanks...Would you know where I can find this info? Before I upgraded my ROM, I used the 10mb from the ext rom quite a bit.
On original shipping ROMs, the Extended ROM is only hidden, not protected in any other way. It can be accessed by using Total Commander and manually entering the directory "\Extended_ROM\" without the quotes. On the new AKU2 ROMs the Extended ROM is locked and a solution has not been found - you currently cannot delete or modify the contents.
Another way is to cook your own Extended Rom your computer and put it back to your Wizard Device. This way you could customise your won Extended Rom.

Hi everyone,
I tried a search for this but couldn't get relevant information.
I am currently running a cooked ROM 4.05 and wanted to upgrade it to the latest official WM 2003 rom from ATT. I am not gonna upgrade my radio stack, and I know how to avoid this by unzipping the exe file and using the .nbf file in XDAtools to upgrade.
My question is, how do I save my sms's and then restore them back? In active sync, can I do a full backup and then a full restore after upgrade and will this save the sms's as well? I know it saves all my personal files and such, but what about the sms's? I tried using that "Sms export" program but it doesnt seem to work for me. (or maybe I'm not using it correctly, but there's no help)
A quick reply would be appreciated. Thank you all.
You need a program like Pocket Backup.
Pocket Backup can be found at:

Total backup
I would like to upgrade my ROM on qtek 2020.
I need also a backup of all my programs and data on it, I mean that I don't have to reinstall nothing when I make a restore.
It is not enough to make a backup in Activesync (in tools)? It is written that it makes a complete beckup (also programs and settings).
Another question. Is it possible to have the original ROM (which I have now on my qtek 2020) somewhere, in case that the new one has bugs?
I have now:
ROM version: 1.03.00 USA
ROM date: 09/24/03
Radio version: 1.05.12
Protocol version: 1337.12
ExtROM version: 1.03.21
Please, I really need help.
Thanks in advance for the answer,

Hi, this is my first time here. I just bought an I-mate JAM today.
The firmware on my device is as under;
ROM version: 1.1100 WWE
ROM dare: 03/14/05
Radio version: 1.11.00
Protocol version: 1337.42
ExtROM version: 1.11.183 WWE
I wanted to know if I could upgrade the ROM to a newer version?
If yes, how?
Sorry if this is n00bish but i've never had a pocket pc. All my life i've had a Symbian based phone.
Yes you can easily upgrade your device, make a backup of the ext-rom thought before you start. This part contains all kind of extra's like operator settings, backgrounds & applications. To do this you must make a link, via Act.Sync on the hidden file on your PPC: \windows\loadvdisk.exe. Put this link on your PPC in \windows\startup & start it with file explorer on the PPC. Now the ext-rom is shown & you can create a backup. After every soft-reset the loadvdisk.lnk is executed so it will remain visible almost for ever.
When you upgrade the rom, you will also have a new ext-rom content with provider settings, which might not be suitable for you. All you have to do is put the cabs containing the settings from your ori. ext-rom on your device & click on them to install.

Ok, everyone who has upgraded their rom to the Qtek 1.6.7.1 rom knows that it has write protection. Is easy for me to say as im asking, but is there anyone who can figure out how to get rid of this. I like the rom itself but i dont want all the stuff it installs. Please someone help out, as i know there are alot of people who would like the same thing.
hi Enervate,
i upgraded but not sure what you mean by write protection.
When i upgraded i reset before it auto installed anything so maybe thats why i'm not with you.
Program mem is lower and the std code message after boot-up is a pain.
otherwise quite stable.
Sorry,
in the extended rom, it has programs that run and auto install each time the phone starts. On version previous to 1.6.x.x you could delete all the programs and amend the extended roms so you could basically make the hard reset install how you wanted. On roms after 1.6.x.x they write protected the exetended rom so you cant delete the files permantely.
good thing is though that Qtek does not install that much.
There is a trick however:
Backup 1.6+ rom
Flash 1.5 rom
Compose your (1.6) Ext ROM
Restore 1.6+ OS and radio ROM
Described in other threads in detail
I'm missing the big storage on magician so much...
I editing my ext rom in rom version 1.1.9.3 (imate) and then upgraded to 1.6.7.1 (qtek) and some of the files in the ExtRom don't install. During the install process after a hard reset it freezes. So i go ahead and downgrade, remove that file from the ExtRom and then upgrade again, then another cab from the ext rom freezes during install. What gives?
hello everyone!
i am running wm06 for a while now and have to admit, its fckng great!
i upgraded from wm2003 directly to wm06, so its like two different worlds...
but when i was upgrading, i did not manage to merge the extrom with the rest of the storage, the unhide and unlock thing just didn't work!
but as i am now sure, that i wont need to roll back to 2003 again, merging the extrom with the rest of the storage would only make it better, no disadvantages, am i right?
or am i needing the extrom in wm06?
how is it used in wm06?
or is it just wasted space....?
as u can easily see, i am still a little confused about all that....
here are some specs from my device:
ROM Version: 5.60.00 WWE
ROM Date: 03/02/05
Radio Version: 1.15.00
Protocol Version: 1337.45
ExtROM Version: - (nothing here...??? is that bad??)
STORAGE:
total: 42,92MB
in use: 28,26MB
free: 14,66MB
PROGRAM:
total: 109,12MB
in use: 40,23MB
free: 68,90MB
thx for any help,
regards,
krz
ExtROM: Extended ROM - is the section of the ROM which the distributor of the phone (eg O2, T-Mobile, iMate, etc) store their customization (eg Today theme, ring tones, extra software) data.
In WM2003 you may found your phone having hardreset quite often - thats because WM2003 use RAM as program-storage (RAM lose everything when battery is drained)
In WM5/6 you are not using RAM as a storage anymore thus not performing hardreset often (typically once during flash)
By performing ExtROM merge, you're going to have extra MB in storage. There is NO DISADVANTAGE.
Those who prefer to have an ExtROM for whatever reason (they may HardReset their phone quite often because of testing/developing/whatever) place the "ExtROM" folder in Storage Card (Memory card/SD/MMC) and after HR it gets installed as usual. Or you can install fixes and addons "one by one".
Read more information here : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_ERK_Understand
----
To sum it up :
You dont need to merge your ExtROM (it cost you some MB)
* How to merge / is here : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardMain
thx a lot for your answer, kerio...!!
if i understood you right, the EXTROM is of NO USE at all in WM06.
so if not merged before upgrading, it will be just invisible and unused space.... am i right?
if so, i would of course prefer to merge the EXTROM with the rest of the storage to gain more free megabytes....
will the total storage size be 60,3MB after merging, like i have seen in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326515 ?!?
is it possible to merge the EXTROM after having WM06 installed?
can i merge EXTROM without reinstalling WM06 and all programs?
btw: unhiding and unlocking is NOT working on my device....
when clicking UNHIDE, nothing happens,
when clicking UNLOCK i get the following error:
Code:
ERROR: FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION - The parameter is incorrect.
what am i doing wrong??
i know, that are a lot of questions, but i would be very thankful if someone could help me with that...
thx in advance!
regards,
krz
bump bump
I would also be interested if somebody suuggests new solutions for "big storage" as my device does accept unlock and unhide, but when using "repart_DOC.exe" it gives me errors and eosn't repartition the ROM...
Downgrade to WM2003 , play da game and flash to wm6
Xeon's got the idea. You will need to to downgrade to WM2003, unlock, unhide and repartition the extrom. Once complete then flash up to the WM6.
I had to do the same thing, as I had not correctly repartitioned the extrom when I moved up too WM5. Good luck.
hello and thx a lot for all your ansers!
how many MBs will I gain from merging EXTROM?
and is there a way to use that space without merging?
anyone knows??
i have wm2003 and i can't unhide , unlock, or format doc, cos everytime i'm trying i can see , FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION the parameter is incorrect, can anyone help me?

We got the point now.
Advise the wiki should be revised as so many people are confusing about the ExtROM.
Thanks
Dear tangwd898,
lol
Have you ever read the wiki? Could you give me the parts where "you must revert back to WM2003" is missing?

Dear kerio,
I did read the Wiki regarding the ExtROM for more than 3 three times, I can't get any informations that we can't modify the ExtROM in OS wm5.0 or wm6.0 from the thread - Understanding the Blue Angle Extended ROM:-
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_ERK_Understand
Understanding the Blue Angle Extended ROM
The Extended ROM is shipped as ms_.nbf and loaded with the BaUpgradeUt.exe
The ms_.nbf is extracted during the Upgrade and written to folder \Extended_Rom
The \Extended_Rom folder is hidden and read only
The Extended ROM can un hidden with the following tool Unlock tool
The Extended ROM is limited to 16MB in size
The Numbering of the Extended ROM is operator dependent:
Thus a QTEK version 1.22.225 might or might not have higher patches than a I-Mate version 1.22.62
Extended ROMs are built around the major OS release (1.22, 1.31)
It is NOT advisable to install cabs from a Extended ROM if the Windows Mobile 2003 Version are not the same
It is NOT advisable to install patches if the CE versions (1.22, 1.31) are different.
(They might have already been included in that CE version.)
Execution of the Extended ROM
CheckAutorun.exe (which is started from \Windows\Startup\CheckAutorun.lnk) executes the AutoRun.exe
AutoRun.exe is found in the \Extended_Rom Folder
AutoRun.exe reads the \Extended_Rom\Config.txt and executes the commnands in that file
The pointer for AutoRun.exe HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AutoRun is set to \Extended_ROM\AutoRun
The pointer for Config.txt HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AutoRunCFG is set to \Extended_ROM\AutoRunCFG
The Touch screen is disabled by the first command (TPDisable.exe)in the Config.txt
The Touch screen is enabled by the 2nd to last command (TPEnable.exe)in the Config.txt
The last Command of the config.txt (RST) performs a soft reset
Content of the Extended ROM
The Extended ROM consists of System files (TPDisable.exe, TPEnable.exe, AutoRun.exe, Config.txt)
The Extended ROM consists of *.CAB installation files
The installation files fall into the following types
Applications: Album, Fax, Zip
Patches for the Hardware: Button9 on the Hardware Keyboard
Patches for the software: Blue tooth upgrade
Provider specific files and programs: Splash screen, Internet Explorer defaults, telco settings, etc.
Effects of a Hard Reset
A Hard Reset will NOT re-extract the ms_.nbf
A Hard Reset will reload the contents of the \Extended_Rom folder
A Hard Reset will reload the OS and thus also clean the registry
Why is this of interest to me?
The Extended ROM can be cooked (Customize the ROM to your own liking)
What ever you put in the \Extended_Rom folder will remain even after a Hard Reset
The \Storage will not be overwritten on a Hard Reset
Thus one is able to keep CAB files on \Storage for automatic reinstallation after a Hard Reset
You can keep your "customized" Extended ROM and only perform a OS or Radio Upgrade

"you must revert back to WM2003" - may be found at other threads but i think this thread "Understanding the Blue Angle Extended ROM" should include this message.
Thank you.
I dont think so
When performing upgrade you should follow the instruction (WM5 and WM6 pages) when you dont - then you may find yourself in trouble.
1. The main page is only for WM2003
2. Error message -> google -> sollution (30sec)
3. You can add it to the wiki (anyone can)

I still have some questions:-
- Why my *.cab files in the extROM folder all missing after i done a hard Reset?
- How to keep all *.cab files in the ExtROM folder after the hard reset?
Thank you.
Guys and Gals
The BA Wiki was started over 2 years or more ago by a new guy on the forum who trying to work out how to get his German MDAIII flashed with an English rom.
He wrote it in order that the information was found in one place as he found it hard to find it in all the threads, this finding problem is still true today.
Well as you see times have changed and the porblems of WM5 and WM6 were not know at that time and as you also see not many people have bothered to invest time back into documneting in wiki. Its become more of a get and ***** about wiki not being updated than a give back some of the time in searching the threads and update wiki for the next person.
Some were in the begining it says if you don't like what you read then fix it.
This is best done by those people that are going through the learning curve as they read Wiki and they should beable to correct / add / embelish on what is written and what needs to be said.
Its a thought.

Misson impossible is that type of Cab file that is no longer there after a hard reset (or when they are executed) as they delete themselves.
Change the properties to read only will solve that.

Hi,
before i take plunge to any customised ROM, i wanted to have backup of my pre-loaded ROM WM6 WWE.
since backup of ROM using aWizard/ itsutils is giving error in itsutils.dll, so i tried finding original ROM (ROM version: 3.7.707.1 WWE , ROM date: 6/21/07 , Radio version: 4.1.13.30 , ExtROM version: 3.6.707.101)
Two places i found the original ROM - from ArmetisWiki page http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_Upgrades
and another link from google http://bbs.hz-pda.com/thread-5146-1-1.html (this looks more correct though - Mods can update this link in the wiki page)
Question:
- if any issues during upgrade of custom rom or after upgrade, i can reload my original ROM (downloaded from above links) ?
- any suggestions of fast custom ROM taking into account the small memory of HTC3300 Armetis. Lots of cool applications included is ok as i can put them in my 4GB card
Thanks in advance...
Hi,
-You can return to original PDA conditions at any time, unless you brick it , if you have the correct original ROM.
-Most of the available ROMs for Artemis are here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_DumpedRoms. My advice is to choose an updated build as light as possible, no "cubes" and heavy graphics..if you like you can "animate" your device afterwards by installing SPB Mobile Shell for example. "Lots of cool applications" are not included in the ROM,some little freeware apps may be..but they would still reside in your pda (because it is a ROM) and not in your memory card.
I think you mixed up the radio version number with the protocol's, a such radio version doesn't exist, just to make things clear. By the way, usually radio ugrades are not included in ROM, they can be flashed separately: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_RadioUpgrades
And,of course, DO NOT FORGET TO UNLOCK your device first if you intend to flash a cooked ROM or radio (read and execute super-carefully the related threads) or you could get into serious trouble.
Good Luck!
Hi,
Thats what i wanted to know, does the 2nd link ( http://bbs.hz-pda.com/thread-5146-1-1.html ) seems to have the correct ROM which can bring back to life my ARTE100 (if bricked or stoned by chance)
Yeah u're right - Radio version got mixed with protocol (radio interference )
Radio version: 02.69.90 - i think i'll update the Radio though i hardly listen...
SPB Mobile shell i have already installed - its cool...
I couldn't understand - "freeware apps may be..but they would still reside in your pda (because it is a ROM) and not in your memory card." as i installed few games/ applications like Total Commander, they gave an option to install in storage card and i clicked that. i checked also if i remove memory card, the links of Total Commander or other games don't work.
though i understand that SPB Mobile shell takes up memory as it loads in memory on startup and stays alive...
thanks
cool.. just now i found upgraded Original ROM from another thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320419
downloaded and kept safe...
Ok, original ROM for your device (MUST be the one you had when you bought you Artemis)) taken from xda is a more secure choice.
The "radio" we are talking about is the GSM module, not the FM radio and its upgrade can greatly improve phone reception and battery consumption.
Maybe I was the first between us not to understand what you were meaning by "cool applications".I wanted to say that they are not included in a ROM, you have to install them separately, if you have them..or buy them .
Mobile Shell takes up RAM,of course, but our device can support it well, especially version 2.0..in my opinion it'more handy for Artemis but it's up to you to test which version you are more confortable with. Moblie Shell MUST be installed on phone memory, not memory card..other applications can be put in the memcard.
