HELP !! Can't Hard Reset K-Jam

I have searched the forum for several hours, but I could not find a solution to the issue I am having. When I do a hard reset, hit send to begin the format, I get an error saying FORMAT Failed, so it boots back up as if it was just a soft reset. I really need a hard reset, but I am not sure how to make this happen. I have reloaded the ROM several times, but it still does not take and comes up just like a soft reset. I went into bootloader and flashed it that way, but still no go. If anyone could help me find a way to rectify this issue, I would GREATLY appreciate it.
Here are the steps I take
Hold the comm mgr button and the record button at the same time, while hitting reset button, then I get the screen that says
Press Send to restore
factory default,
Other keys to quit
I then hit the Send button, then it says
FORMAT FAT partition
then really fats, it flashes "Format is failed"
I have no idea what to do next, as I can not get my factory default settings back.
Please help. I would appreciate it GREATLY.
try using a different ROM or a more recent rom. if you can sucessfully upgrade the ROM then it should be able to hard reset.
I have downgraded and updated to different roms, but I still have the same problem. Appreciate the advice. thanks
Interesting post.
I got my mini s on Thursday and after initionaly starting the device, i done a soft reset before the o2 crap was installed (to avoid the o2 extended rom loading), but was then curious as to how my xda mini s would perform with the o2 crap installed, but i cannot hard reset my device. I have followed all the hard reset instructions but it doesnt even give me the option of pressing the send button, all that happens is a soft reset.
It would be handy to know how to overcome this problem for future reference, in case i need to hard reset.
BTW i am happy with device without the o2 crap installed.
did you try going into settings and clearing storage?
i never heard of hard resetting not working before myself
Good point, so I just cleared storage, and BAM, it came up as a hard reset, so I am factory installed. Thanks for the idea, I can not believe I did not think of that. Appreciate your help. Just weird how the hard reset would not do it, thats pretty strange.
glad it worked
if anything, i thought the settings method would have less likely worked compared to the hardware method

Same here - I got mine last week, and the damned shop had obviously demo'd it to someone before they gave it to me (gave being the operative word as I got it on a free upgrade).
Was a bit narked to find loads of contacts in (obviously a SIM copy) and tried to hard-reset using the 2 buttons & reset and it only ever worked once after much pfaffing - is there a knack in the presses/time etc?

Problems with Hard Reset

I had installed WM5 and I've made backup using spb backup. A year ago it worked properly, but when I've done it a few days ago, wanted to restore it, and when wizard made soft reset after restoring it stuck. There was only blue window where was written Windows Mobile. I found somwhere that I have to do hard reset using the three buttons. I've done it and everything started going correctly. However I decided to change my WM5 to WM6. I read a lot of threads and installed WRCX2. I installed some more programms and it worked correctly. Everything was fine. Then i decided to resotre my backup. And everything went as before, despite I used different backup (previous one). I wanted to make hard reset again HOWEVER IT DOESN'T WORK! I hold the two top buttons, then press the reset button with my stylus and it makes only SOFT RESET! WHat am I doing wrong or how to do hard reset in a different way?

Sounds like the problem is the 2 top buttons. Ensure the buttons are held down and re-try.
You were right. At last I managed to do it;] Thank you very!

Very Silly Question about Hard Reset...

Hi All,
I hopefully should be getting my X1 tomorrow! (if O2 get it back in stock anyway!)
Im new to Windows Mobile but not new to Windows in general! so I have been reading on here for quite a few weeks regarding customising my X1. I have a very silly question regarding hard resetting.
Is the original factory image of the phone stored on a seperate hidden partition of the disk that we cant see? Does hard reseting completely reset back to factory settings removing all mods etc ? Is there a way by modding the phone we can ruin this "factory" image?
Im just working out that if I install a mod I dont want... can I Always get it back with a Hard Reset?
Thanks in advance,
Craig
Yes, you go back to a fresh out of teh box handset. Everything is wiped.
You don't need to do it often if you don't play with experimental software ported from oher devices etc...
I have used WM for 4 years now and have only once done a hard reset.

HD2 keeps crashing/hardresetting itself...

first things first: the hd2 is my very first windows mobile device. i've already read the wiki and searched the forum/the internet for help, but i didn't find a solution for my problem. i'm also not a newcomer when it comes to flashing (i've gained some experience from my psp/wii/nokia n82/creative zen).
so i got my htc hd2 a few days ago and one of the first things i tried was flashing a rom (i didn't like the t-mobile branding).
i had absolutely no problems installing hspl (this forum was very informative) and flashing the artemis rom (i strictly followed the instructions), which i found in the rom developement sub forum. since everything seemed to work fine, i started adding my contacts and some applications, still no problems.
but after a while one of the apps seemed to have crashed and the phone became unresponsive.
i removed the battery and turned my phone back on, but it was stuck in the boot screen (the very first screen on which it says "r g d" in red at the bottom). since i didn't know what to do, i simply flashed the artemis rom another time and so the story repeats: at first everything worked fine and after a while the phone got stuck again.
after 4 tries i decided to switch to the shock star r9 rom (also found on xda), which also seemed to work fine at first, but it didn't take long for the phone to freeze again. i took out the battery again and turned the phone back on. this time (to my surprise) it didn't get stuck on bootup, but instead it (automatically) performed a hard reset. the phone now does a hardreset everytime i turn it back on, which makes it pretty much unusable...
since i'm getting REALLY tired of adding my email accounts/favorites/application shortcuts (by now i'm just installing them on the sd card, so i don't have to reinstall them)/facebook associations for my contacts/etc and i thought i'd better ask for help.
does anyone know what causes this issue and/or how i can solve this problem? help would be appreciated!
and since i'm here, what should i use to backup my phone (once it's running perfectly)? i already tried pim backup (sadly it doesn't create a backup of everything) and spb backup (freezes on registry recovery). would it be possible to create a rom that contains ALL of my information (settings/contacts/favorites/applications/registry tweaks/...)?
tl;dr:
my hd2 automatically performs a hardreset on bootup, how do i fix it?
please ignore any grammar errors, i'm tired and not a native english speaker
I have the same problem exactly regarding self-hard-reset. I still did not find any reasonable cause for this problem which is starting really to push on my nerves
This sounds to me like a corrupt file system, which can happen after ROM flashes. I would try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781
@Moandal: thanks for the answer. i just flashed the shock star rom again and the phone boots up normally again. but i really doubt that it will stay like this, unless i know what caused the problem. next time it happens, i'll try the program from your link.
but if i'm not mistaken, that program also hardresets the phone (correct me, if i'm wrong), so i could just flash a rom instead and that's what i'm trying to prevent (as i said, i don't want to have to enter my personal stuff again and again and again...).
what exactly could cause a corrupt file system? could it be a problem with the rom(s) or am i just doing something completely wrong?
A "simple" custom ROM flash only overwrites the ROM's contents without prior erasing, which on the HD2 has been found to sometimes cause trouble like the continuous hard resets you've suffered.
The solution is a full erase of the ROM before flashing the new ROM, which this mtty command does. So, you obviously can't do it without hard resetting/reflashing.
@kilrah: ok, that made things much clearer. i'm going to use the program posted above and flash the rom again, i hope that will fix future issues.
thanks for the fast help, guys
I had the same issues, at first I thought it was the artiums rom but having done MTTY walkthrough I'm 1 week into the Miri rom without much issues (apart from the odd program crash)
since it started pretty much straight away on the first rom, id be a little concerned that it might be an issue with the phone.
if it continues after you mtty/task 29 then id flash back to stock, including spl, and monitor that for a few days.
Code:
@samsamuel: since my last post the phone crashed only once (i was using opera 9.7 when it became unresponsive again), but this time it didn't perform a hard reset!
the main issue seems to be solved and that's good enough, for the time being.
if the problem occurs again, i'll follow your advice.
opera 9.7 - have you moved the cache to the memory card? I've had a lot of freezes the last few days with opera 9 7, turns out it was cos the cache was on the sd card (default 2 gig that came with it).
moved the cache to the phone yesterday, not a crash in 30 hours.
no, but i was actually going to. won't do it now, obviously
please help cause it went crash and hardreset by itself over again..... how can I fix this??

[Q] How to hard reset my X10i?

I have a X10i & I rooted it fine with all the previous roms & when I ran cleanme.cmd for 026 after editing and deleting some rows, everything seemed fine.
I noticed that my phonebook & a bunch of other things where missing so therefor I decided to unmount the SD-card inside the phone & format it & then reset the phone & everything seemed fine, but when I started the phone & wrote the SIM-PIN code & pressed OK Timescape crashed. I press the button to force it, but it just keeps coming back.
I've tried to repair the phone with SE Companion, but it won't work.
Is there some way to hard reset by pushing some buttons like for the X1-version?
hard reset..???
i didn't find any information about hard rest on google search....all there is soft reset info. which is done through erase all from settings menu
having some random crashes from last few days, tried all firmwares nothing worked so lastly formatted my memory card and everything is fine...
but if i try to use backup and restore and restore contacts through it crashes again and then its impossible to start the phone though i do feel small vibration... i have to remove battery for 5-10 seconds and then put in again, but after restart all contacts are deleted which were restored through backup nd restore..
so it seems there is some problem with backup i made, so now i ve made new contacts and its working fine..
but still 3/10 times when i restart my phone it doesn't start and i have to remove battery...can anybody please advise me wot to do.?
tried everything every firmware rooted or unrooted, tried using without memory card, without using wifi, without downloading any software or backup, still it crashes a bit and around 3/10 times when i restart my phone..it does shutdown properly but does not starts iven if i plug in the charging cable....i have to have to remove battery most of the time..
is there a way to hard reset like there is for x1 ... any ideas devs..?
please help i ve also got iphone but dont want to use it..more addicted to x10 but this problem is giving me hard time
thanks
