With the Wizard I used VJOKButt with the IE-button so that I could close programs and dialogs without using the stylus.
The TyTN/Hermes has it's own OK button(s), and I was wondering if anyone knows a way these buttons can actually close (or be reconfigured to launch VJOKButt) programs?
I've already tried AE Button Plus but couldn't set a custom action for the OK button (allthough this might be because I didn't register the program)...
Any tips would be apreciated!

I may try to build such a feature in to VJOkButt, but I'd rather people be able to use their own button mappers. However, if AE Button plus doesn't do it, then I may try to build in this feature.

AEB Plus
Actually it does work, you just have to add it as a new button (menu | add button). I've got my OK hardware button mapped to ok/close for one press and close front application for a long press.
Steven
I certainly would love it if is was build in to VJOKButt, Vijay!
I guess I'll try AEButton again (for now). Didn't see that "Add button" feature..
EDIT: The AEButton finds the hardware OK button, but the combination of VJOKButt and AEButton won't close the application, just minimize it. :?
With AE Button Plus 2.4.3 beta and upwards, you can capture and map the "ok" and "windows" buttons. Have set mine to close apps with 2 depresses of the "ok" button.
can it be done by tweaking some of the registry rather to instsall some of the 3rd party program?
Hmmm... I should have investigated some more. Now it works!
PQzII let's you map any button on the hermes (and universal) to anything you want...it is really great. It has an option to make the ok button a 'really close button' and much more.

You can find out a lot about it in this forum by searching for pqzII.
Hi All,
I'm trying AEBPlus and I tried to map the OK button the side to be "OK/Close" for one press and "Close active application" for two presses. however, the single press doesn't seem to work. Pressing it once no longer minimizes applications or funciton as the OK/Close button. In fact it does nothing. I'm using a CHT9000 with the Dopod English Rom. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

how about good old smartskey? it works in my Hermes, press&hold right softkey removes active window from memory.
Aye, but until it supports OK button it's less intuitive. The newest version support the OK button on the Prophet but this operates the PIE button on the Hermes. I've PM'd Water about it but no response
OK buttons NOT mappable under WM5..not through menus anyway!

I agree. On my HTC Prophet using Wisbar Advanced 2, I am able to map the 'OK' button to 'Close/OK' option of the Wisbar application, which did close all my programs etc. On my VarioII the 'OK' buttons are not mappable. Bummer!!
Try PQZII for me is fantastic, not only to close programs, you can map everithing...
How d'u use it this PQZII? Help!!

Forgive my stupidity, but I'm currently using it, but haven't a clue how to get it to that for sure. It seems to work for some applications, but not for others. Any tips or guides for dummies like me
I'll join the dummies club too!
PQzII would be perfect if we could attach key presses of the same key to different apps like in AE button plus.
unfortunately, once PQzII captures the button, it overides AE button plus, meaning the 2 can't work together on the same button.
also found out that AE button plus 2.5 doesn't capture the windows button at all. Investigated back and found that only 2.4.3 beta did.
I dont know AEbutton so I dont understand why you want use both the programs. (note: also PQZ dose not configure well the win button) but you can configure any other button, eg: alt+left to close program (I put alt in internet button so if I want to close a program I press "internet program" and "left".
I've mapped my 'Button 5' (under settings/Buttons...) to 'Close/ok' of the Wisbar Advanced settings, which does close everything. Just until, as bydandie said, a more intuitive method can be achieved by using the 'ok' button.
in PQZII there is an option to make ok button to close, I dont use that option because I want to have some programs running down, you can try

Does anyone know a registry hack yet for making it possible to remap ALL hardware buttons (or at least the OK button below the jog-wheel, cause this seems to be hard-coded to the Windows-menu) !?
Preferably a reg-hack that (re)enables this options in the regular \Settings\Buttons tab...
Another problem i want to fix (apart from the ROM being immature) is the fact that i have to go all the way into the Bluetooth-settings on the CommManager screen to connect my Jabra 620s in stereo/audio-mode, which is quite anoying and timeconsuming...
Some other strange thing is that when i want use Voicecommand (while playing audio) to either call someone or speak a command to WMP, this will only work when i use VC-assigned button on the device, and NOT with the answer/end button on my headset (wich should be working like the VC-button on device).
Anyone able to help me here ?
PS: i'm quite experienced WM user dating back to the Wyvern/PalmsizePC CE 2.12 devices...but i just can't seem to find my way around these huge registries in todays devices anymore... guess i'm getting old...
Anyone please ...?
I would like to know too. Style-wise, there are a lot of things HTC got wrong with the Trinity. In fact, I found the HTC Wizard better designed.
Damn thing needs IE, Messaging, Comm Manager buttons and a Volume slide but instead it has 2 OK buttons and a jog/dial which I rarely use.
Not to mention how buggy the release ROM is, what with huge delays between standby mode and MiniSD cards requiring re-insertion to work properly.
P.S. It would be nice to be able to change the functionality of the jog/dial wheel to volume control.
Yup - this is driving me nuts too.
I have 7 hardware buttons (inc the power button) on the trinity and I can only map 3 of them from Settings.
It's a real handicap (& Voice Command is conflicting with the voice dial button - or at least that's what I think is happening with my repeated failed installations).
Some wisdom from the forum would be almost as appreciated as a fix
Thanks,
M1

I don't have my Trinity yet, but have you tried some of the 3rd party Button remappers that are available? Magic Button etc.

I got my Trinity last friday and am using a 2Gb MiniSD card and so far no problems with it. I feel no real delay when coming out of standby mode and no problem at all with the MiniSD card, maybe you got a early version of the ROM that contained this particular problems.
I do agree with you with the OK buttons, but i also understand the way they were designed, the button close to the jog wheel is to be used together with the jog wheel so that you can single handedly use the machine.
Lets see if someone suggests a good 3rd party tool to remap the buttons and then everybody is happy ;-)

I am able to get VC to work with call/answer button when using my Motorola headsets H300 and HS805. The phone needs to be out of standby mode ie screen needs to be on. I can't seem to get it to work with my R35 I.tech stereo wireless headset. I guess this could mean compatibility issues between headsets? Does the call/answer button work if you are not listening to music?

Yes...you're right...it does work when the screen of my trinity is on. But offcourse when listening to music the screen is gonna be off...
The button on the headset does activate voicecommand when device is on (ie screen on) and no music is playing. But i'd rather have it understand my commands like "what track is this" while music plays (without having to take out the phone of my pocket).
As for the button-mapping: i'm familiar with the buttonmappers out there, but another application on my trinity is just not what i need... Is there really no way to get to this functionality through the registry ? I've searched quite a chunk of the registry but gave up; i just can't find it...

Precisely: one handed operation... That's what i want, so i want the button next to the jogdial to be the ALT+TAB function (which is available through Spb PocketPlus)...so i want to be able to map this to whatever button i like, not just the 2 options HTC gave me... (i don't count press'n hold as an extra button).
I think it's quite ridiculous to have TWO buttons activating the startmenu, and have them hardcoded to that. What's the point in 2 buttons doing the same thing ?
Being able to change the 'Windows' button woukld also be a fine sollution...
Try AE Button Plus. Your solution will not lie in the registry.

Just tried, it works (AE Button Plus -> File -> Add button)
But i found a little bug, after i used it to swap Right Softkey and Start Menu Button, Start Menu Button works fine (changed to be Right Softkey) but for Right Softkey, no matter how i press it, start menu will not be shown !!!
Because, after i press Right Softkey, Start Menu Button event is triggered, but Start Menu Button is set to be Right Softkey by AE Button Plus, so at the end pressing Right Softkey will be regarded as pressing REAL Right Softkey rather than Start Menu.
The most strange thing is that such bug will not happen when pressing pressing Start Menu Button =.="
Any idea ? How to solve it ?
Thanks in advance

Hi guys,
I'm too looking for a way to remap the startmenu-button for e.g. starting an application. No 3rd party software I tried so far is able to do so...
Any suggestion how to reassign the startmenue button to call a specific application?
Cheers

AEButton Plus maps all but the standby button...
... on my Wizard. Well, it doesn't touch the soft-reset, the camera gets funky when I try to map it, and I can't seem to move the vibrate function off the hold "Comm Manger" Key. Given I've got 50 different hardware button options, (or 37 added if I leave all the default functioning in place) with this nifty shareware (basically fully functional if you want to use it free forever), who cares about the dumb camera button (not in the count above).
My biggest problem is remebering where I mapped it all. My second is making decisions about how to map them.... :|| (that's a repeat sign in music-talk)
You gotta try it. I'd be curious to find out how it works on your hardware.

Hi forum
Where can i manually switch between portrait and landscape mode? In WinMobile 2002 there was an icon on the bottom bar that did rotate the screen by 90 degrees. But i don't see it anymore. I don't want to pull out the qwerty keyboard everytime i want to switch to landscape mode. Tanks in advance.
Setting - System - Screen
You are able to assign the screen rotation to a hardware key. So it is only one click to rotate the screen
danielham
But this works only for the left and right softkey..if i need thoose i cant rotate, right?

Use AEBPlus - as far as im aware it is freeware. When I used it I found that it had a very low memory footprint and didnt slow windows down at all (in comparison with say Voice Command). AEBPlus enables you to assign anything to any button, including different states of button press (ie short press, long press, double press). For example I used the camera button half push (which normally controls auto focus) for rotating the screen. If you dont wanna loose your softkeys you could could have single press as softkey, double press as rotate screen have fun!
the problem is that Aeb turns the screen full 360 degrees in 4 steps (starting in the wrong direction)..while the native experia rotate only does the 2 settings you get when you slide it open..which i like more
how assign rotation (Setting-system-screen) to a leftkey
Did you ever get an answer to this? I too would like to know how to assign the landscape/portrait switch to a soft key.
Thanks,
Ian

Softkeys are the two silver looking buttons below the screen.
Too change, go to Start > Settings > Buttons > Select either "Left key" or "Right key" and assign "<Rotate Screen>" via the dropdown menu below.

If you go to Options -> Screen Orientation and select only 0 and 270 degrees, it will work like you want.

I'm pretty sure softkeys are the functions shown on the bottom of the screen. The two silver buttons are called left and right button usually I guess.
Often those keys will press the corresponding softkey, but they can be programmed to do other things with software like AEB+.
My bad, I meant left/right key. I do know the difference, I just had not had my coffee yet. thanks for the info!
Can anybody help me out by telling me what I need to do to get tomtom navigator to rotate to landscape. I prefer not to use any third party apps such as flip-it or Gyrator2.
I know it's all about it to the whitelist in the GSensor reg settings but I'm not entirely sure. Tried a couple of things but not cracked it.
Thanks in advance.
hi i suggest you install one application called "Quick Menu"
that one is very cool to use. And it also has the function you need.
You can rotate the screen manually.(left/right)

Hopefully a remedy for this can be found. Id love to have TomTom in Landscape.
Any of the many rotating apps on this forum will let you rotate TomTom. I've used Gyrator and FlipIt and both did the job. There's also changeScreen, Gsen, and more.
By far the best solution would be to get Gyrator working, but you could use this online tool to create a custom TomTom menu with the rotate button in the menu. Take note that some newer functions cannot be added to these menus.
I personally used AE Button Plus to assign a double tap of Volume Up to Rotate Screen.
I just use changescreen. I also use it to rotate calculator. Its good to install it because it might come in handy in the future when you need to rotate more apps or games. I recommend changescreen for ease of use.
In windows, in Onkolog's Lite you can assign a long-press of the call button (leftmost touch sensitive button) to rotate screen.
Start>Settings>Buttons
I use this to rotate TomTom.
No other 3rd party software added.
I have been having a problem that, when using TomTom in Landscape, I get the Windows title bar showing on top of the TomTom screen. I have had suggestions that this is down to the use of rotation software (I am currently using ChangeScreen, which is great in every other respect).

Pretty much the same here, I used Total Commander to enable the rotation menu in the registry, then assigned it to call button long press.
I got severely fed up of the rotation apps that needed tons of configuration - then still didn't work.
Recently find there are many rotate screen program for HTC model which has a G-sensor bulit in.
Any idea if there is any similar program for X1, that is to rotate the screen by the active application you are runnig.
THx!
you can rotate from inside settings
but x1 don't have a G-sensor so you have
to do it manualy
simply set one of the buttons to 'rotate'
this way all u have to do is press the button, yea, its that easy
start>settings>buttons
I have mapped my left button to "rotate screen" and my right to "alt+tab". I am happy haha.
thanks guys
I am actually using ae button to map my left key to do it. just thinking if there is any software could have intelligent to remember the rotation preference.
