Good morning! Hopefully this hasnt already been discussed, and if it has, maybe somebody could point me to the thread, because I've done some searching to no avail.
When I recieve an MMS on my universale using t-mobile usa, the photos are always resized to 160x120 which is barely viewable with the vga display. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere, or is this just t-mobile's standard behavior? Video files seem to go through just fine.
I don't have a Universal, but I had a similar issue on my Wizard when I would hard reset, but not apply the Cingular CAB's.
There are several registry keys that I used to correct this. I don't have them handy, but will dig them up when I get a chance for you.
These settings may help:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\Capture]
"VideoRes"=dword:00000008
"PhotoRes"=dword:00000080
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\UI]
"SupportAutoSignature"=dword:00000000
"AllowSendReadReport"=dword:00000001
"AutoDisconnect"=dword:00000001
"AlphaTag"=""
"AlphaTagDispTxt"=""
"EnableReceivePrompt"=dword:00000001
"EnableReceiveNotify"=dword:00000002
"EnableDownloadedPrompt"=dword:00000001
"EnableDownloadedNotify"=dword:00000002
"EnableSentPrompt"=dword:00000001
"EnableSentNotify"=dword:00000002
"DownloadHomeNetworkOnly"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\UI\SizeLimit]
"SendLimit1"=dword:0004b000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\8832]
"WAP2SendDefaultSize"=dword:0004b000
"WAP1SendDefaultSize"=dword:0004b000
"WAP1RecvDefaultSize"=dword:0004b000
"WAP1DefaultSize"=dword:0004b000
"WAP2DefaultSize"=dword:0004b000
"SendDefault"=dword:0004b000
"RecvDefault"=dword:0007d000
"GatewayPort"=dword:00000050
"WAP2RecvDefaultSize"=dword:05f5e0ff
"PacketSize"=dword:000003e8
"WAPType"=dword:00000001
Bear in mind I use these on my Wizard and on Cingular, so I don't know if they'll all apply or not. Also, on that last key, 8832 is my connection to the Cingular network. So your key may be named differently.
Hope that helps some.. Good luck!
Thanks for the reply guys! I"m a lil hesitant to start poking at the registry unless it's a confirmed fix on t-mo... er maybe I'll just do a backup and have a jumping point to unhose everything from. I dont suppose there's any other nice folks who've had similar experience?
Unfortunately, I have no clue if anyone else has tried it, as I'm Cingular. But, if you do try, good luck! Perhaps, maybe you may wish to export your registry first, try it, and if it doesn't work, re-import the one you exported.

OK, I know I've asked for help with this before but it's really starting to annoy the hell out of me.
I have done the corporate install, and unlike others, the MMS bits were included in the install, but just to be safe, installed Dingo's cab, wich would be really helpful if I lived in the UK and was on O2. I have installed the "Telstra Australia.cab" settings that someone kindly d/loaded from O2's site and to be quite honest, I cannot see a single thing this cab has added or changed anywhere in the MMS settings or the connection settings.
I even went so far as to getting hold of some old manual set up instructions for a XDA II, put these in and still no joy.
Please....... someone must know something to help me, it's bloody frustrating.
I have a similar problem, depends on who I send to, my brother no, my wife yes. Dont know why or how to fix it so I am also interested in suggestions.
I have Qtek 9100, and I recently upgraded my rom to 2.26.10.2 WWE. after the upgrade, I don't have any MMS capability. When I go to Messaging, then menu, there is no 'MMS Configuration' tab. No MMS anything even on my folder drop down list. I tried the Cingular MMS Cab that was posted. and that didn't work. GPRS and the internet connect just fine.
Any Idea?

I did
I did actually go to that forum first. I install the Cingular MMS Cab, and it didn't work. I still couldn't find the 'MMS Configuration' anything. I don't really know how to do the extended ROM stuff. I know how to set up the MMS configuration for cingular once I can get to it. But I can't even get to the setting.
:?:
Had a simular experience.
Recent hard reset and no Extended ROM anything. Didn't start up at all.
Now this is good and bad.
I have the GPRS settings done but am struggling with MMS
I believe i have the base settings correct but i am unable to set up an MMS account in the place where email, TXT and hotmail goes.
As you can see i am on Vodafone UK with a monthly contract
any help appreciated
I just had the same issue last night. Hard reset, and non of the customisations loaded.
So i loaded a new rom to it instead
I had the same problem when i first got my phone. It was because of my data plan. I believe the customization takes place by downloading. I didnt have the Cingular PDA Data plan. Im tryin to beat the system with just media max data plan. its cheaper and few texts are included! you may have to add the PDA data plan in order to get the custom installations.
Make sure you look under Menu -> Tools -> Options. MMS will show up in there, if you're using the CAB I posted. I'm still trying to figure out how to make it show up in the menu itself versus having to go through the above shenanigans. Maybe I'll revisit that today when I should be working instead.
well, I still have the same plan as before I upgraded my ROM. and it worked great. No data plan, just the media bundle (or whatever they call it hese days). After I upgraded the ROM, there's no MMS even when I go to menu->tool ->option ->new account , it just do the email setting again. This happened also the first time I got the phone, and someone from cingular send me the setting on air (smart message or something) and it opens the "mms configuration" tab under the menu list. Then it worked just fine until I upgraded the damn ROM. Do you think is a problem during ROM upgrade process? Will redoing the ROM upgrade help? I rather not do this again.
Thanks everybody!
Which CAB did you install from that thread? The one in Dr P's post, or the one in my post?
i installed yours. and actually, since I've been up all night trying to tinker with this, I actually found a fix posted by Molski. And It works now. It doesn't have the direct 'mms configuration" tab to get to the setting, but at least now MMS is in the folder list and I could set up things from there. It seems to be working fine now.
Thanks for all the reply and helps, and shout out to Molski too.
This is the thread that I was looking at just incase someone is having the same problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=59513&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25
I still don't know why or what the problem was though. Will I have to go through the same thing again when I decide to upgrade the ROM in the future?
You shouldn't have to. And that CAB file I posted should have done basically the same thing. I can't figure out why it didn't. I know I use a slightly different one when I bulldoze my 8125, but if I remember it's because I included some personal settings in there. I can't remember now.. But I may go dig it up, and if it isn't, post it here as well..
Okay, I just looked at the CAB files, and I see what I did.
Basically, the one I posted there just has the settings to fix the resizing issue. It doesn't actually create the MMS folder.
I have another CAB that I use that does create the MMS folder, and then I do my actual settings in a CAB file I use with a bunch of different settings.
I think I'll merge the two CAB files together and post 'em.
what resizing issue was there? since I have installed yours before the other CAB, should I reinstall yours again?
Probably wouldn't have to, unless it adjusts the camera settings.
Basically, if you blitz your device, and don't install any of the Cingular customizations, you don't get MMS. THere's a CAB in the Extended ROM that if you do install it, you get MMS, but there is a sizing issue with images. For example, I may have sent myself an image sized at 90k taken with my phone to myself, but when I receive it, it's a thumbnail sized image at about 3k. With the settings adjustments in the cab file I made, it would be the full sized 90k image.
to avoid all this I sugguest u call cingular and get a data plan.. hard reset or update ur rom or whatever u wanna do. and see if the mms appears then. after that call them back and cancle that data plan... it worked for me
I have already fixed the problem using the fix posted earlier. I am still using the same plan as before, and it's working fine. I thought the data plan is for GPRS connection using a laptop, for example. Anyhow, I just use the media package from cingular and I have been able to access the internet using my phone.
Awesome! Thanks a lot Nomad. It is set to say Cingular MMS now and it is still not sending MMS, It puts it into the outbox and has this little clock symbol on it and will not send. I know what the settings are suppose to be but the cingular mms button is still greyed out also just like the Tmobile one was. I cant seem to edit the settings. Any help would be much appreciated again.
What rom do you have? is it an official rom? since official roms don't allow you to alter the MMS settings, at least the newer T-Mobile ones don't let you. If I'm not mistaken on the cingular site there's a page where you can request the MMS settings sent to your phone, I'm not 100% sure on that, but I seem to remember someone talking about that.
My Rom is 2.26.10.2 WWE. I know the infomation for the settings but it is greyed out like you said. I cant get into the area to plug the settings in. Any help would be awesome.
Better late then never. If you still have the same problem the only way I know how to fix it is to CID unlock your device and install one of the custom roms around here. I remember some guys trying to figure out what to change in the registry to be able to change the settings but don't know what they could achieved or where the thread is. Anywho by now I imagine you probably figured this out already but just in case.
hi guys, i have a problem. when i receive mms messages, the pictures are sooooo tiny. i have it set to download manually and when i look at the msg details it'll say that the msg is 100+ kbs in size but after it finishes downloading, the picture is only about 5kb in size. same thing goes for short audio files(if a person sends me a 10-15sec recording, i only receive a 5sec clip of it). have any of you the same problem? i've looked through all my settings and can't find anything that would help if i changed them so i come to all you kind ppl. please help. thanks in advance
I think this topic came up around 2 weeks ago on XperiaX1.net, and I think they concluded it was a network (carrier/provider) setting. Might be worth a look.
thats what i first thought but with my n95 and all my previous ericssons, it's never been an issue. i've always received everything in full. but perhaps i have some incorrect mms server settings on this phone. i'll look into it. thanks for the quick reply
The phone speaks to your network when downloading the message and your network is going "I have no idea what this phone is" so it sends down the small version. If you search there was a regedit which tricked the network in to thinking you were a different model.
LOL, the answer to your question is literally 11 threads down!

There was one guy who had this problem over at esato and he fixed it. This is hidden in a rather long genieric thread so i'll just copy his post here...
"Basically, it has something to do with the phone not being set up, or directing to the correct 'profile' with the network operator. For example, my settings were directing to the Taiwan HTC website for some reason. Because O2 didn't have these settings, it was defaulting the MMS settings to how they were when MMS was first introduced.
The solution is basically using a program like PHM Registry Editor to change the profile, so it directs to the correct details. However, as there aren't any specific Xperia ones yet, you can have it use those of another phone. In my case, I have used the N95 settings, as these are ones set up on O2.
So, in the reg editor you need to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - Software - Arcsoft MMS UA - Config - mm1 - WspHeader
There will be 6 strings in this part of the registry. You just need to edit the 'User-Agent' profile to:
NokiaN95/11.0.026; Series60/3.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
And the 'Profile' string to:
http://nds1.nds.nokia.com/uaprof/NN95-1r100.xml
You don't need to reboot. And that should get the pics coming through at the correct size.
Hope this helps if anyone is having the same problem."

ooops i found the answer last night lol suppose i should've reported back. the regedit trick fixed the problem. thanks you guys
I have read a few subjects on this board about tiny picture messages after recieving my first X1 MMS just the other day. All the settings here seem to be for TMobile US...
...o2 seem to deny this is their fault, does any1 have a fix for me?!
im sure someone else in the UK has been experiencing this problem....
i have but the valkyrie rom fixed it..
I assume the MMSFix cab fixes it though, as far as i know it tricks the mms server into think it's an N95 or somethin and sends it full sized pictures
Editing the registry fixes this. My post in another thread:
I take you are using a generic ROM? My mms was fine when I was on the original O2 ROM, but then when I upgraded and went generic my mms pics were tiny. Turns out that is because operators put in custom mms settings in the registry, otherwise it gets default mms settings that are years old, hence the tiny pictures.
It's quite an easy fix, have a look at post 14 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...picture&page=2
I am on O2 UK using a generic SE Rom, and changing the registry as per those instructions fixed it perfectly. My recieved MMS pics are now a good size. L11 is right, it tricks the MMS into thinking it's an N95.
