Hey guys, i;m in love with your forum ever since i joined few weeks ago and i like all the dev and programmers with thier works. Just wanna ask what tools to hook up with my phone, it's Cingular8125 and i' gonna be taking to london with me, not sure what stuff to use and the best one to unlock it. i just need your ideas on what to use and other stuff i can use.
If you're after operator unlocking your wizard, check out

I don't have a Wizard, so can't say if that's the current state of the art, but it comes highly recommended AFAIK.
If and when you're in London, feel free to drop me a line

hi guys, im new to the world of pdas/smartphones and have recently purchased an alpine (o2 xdaIIi) that should arrive tomorrow so i've been looking at upgrading before i start putting info onto it and wiping it in the process.
i've read as much as i can take in over the past couple of days about upgrading the software before posting anything too stupid.
my question is, out of the two rom updates i have managed to find active links for which would you recommend as the most stable?
alpine-1.11.171-radio-1.04-bluetooth-patched-camera-fixed.rar
Alpine_Ext-1.11.162_Radio-1.04_O2stuffstripped_Camera_Fixed.rar
personally i dont really mind if it has the 02 stuff on it or not as i'm with that provider anyway, going on version numbers i would say the first one would APPEAR to be the one to go for but experience tells me newer isn't always better. i appreciate any input from senior members.
Hey everybody,
I'm extremely new to the community and have recently found myself the proud parent of a baby T-Mobile Wing. There is so much helpful information on this site, but it is so hard to sort it all out. Right now I am running SPB Shell and am digging on it, yet I crave more. I like the layout of SPB Shell, but would love to be able to take better advantage of touch options (scrolling, contacts, internet, etc). What could be done to get these options? I've read about Open Touch, and there seem to be mixed reviews. Is it possible to still have SPB Shell and a program that offers better use of the touch screen?
Also, what are some applications that you Wing users are fond of? I am using VTouch, Google Maps, and an SNES emulator. Are there other things I should know about? Radio, a pizza maker maybe?
Thanks so much.
I'm still very new here too, but my advice is download everything you can find on this site and try it! The cooks are AMAZING and I'm now doing things with my wing that i never thought was possible.
Download a kitchen and play with it. But only after flashing and playing with all the roms that are available so you know what you want out of a rom.

The best way that I found to learn about my Wing is to screw it up several times and then learn how to fix it. I've made pretty much every mistake you can make with it when it comes to flashing ROMs. Every time I've found a thread on here to save me when I was inches away from throwing it in the trash can.
There's definitely not one overall "best" or "favorite" ROM. Personally I'm a fan of Ivan's JustMe because it has pretty much everything I use so I don't need to install anything on top of what's cooked in, and Just2Clean because, as the name implies, it really IS clean. But you really just need to get several, take them out for test drives (at least a week), and see which one suits you best. I've gotten ROMs before that I thought after a couple of hours were perfect for me, and then a few days later I realized a couple of annoying tiny things that made me reconsider. That's why it's ultimately best to cook your own. As soon as I get brave enough, that's my next step!
I personally don't take as much advantage of the touch screen as I should, so I'm not the best person to advise on that, but you should definitely spend a long time reading just about every post in the ROM review thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395793
The Wing isn't built to support radio natively, but I use Internet radio a lot. www.thestreamcenter.com is the place I usually use. It's good if you know the call letters you're looking for. It was invaluable when I had to work during football games.
As far as a pizza maker goes, I have actually dropped my Wing on a piping hot, gooey pizza before. I do not recommend it. Sometimes I swear I can still smell oregano.
Some essential CABs I use no matter which ROM I'm currently using:
BatteryStatus
Total Commander
TCPMP
WM5torage
Opera Mini
Oxios Hibernate
PIM Backup
Again, though, everyone has their faves (even if they don't use MyFaves!).
Definitely start here though:

You may find some outdated apps in the links from that thread, but they'll at least hip you to the more commonly-used ones so you can look for the latest versions on your own.
Above all, don't be afraid to ask questions (after making good use of the "Search this Forum" button, of course)! I have posted several questions that I was embarrassed to be asking, but everyone on this site is incredibly knowledgeable and supportive.
Hi Everybody,
iPhone 3G about to be sold off, HD2 arriving Monday.
Having read this forum I'm now thinking WTF have I done!
Come on, give me some encouraging words on HD2 ownership pleeeease!
If you've got any tips for out the box new phones, like "Whatever you do don't press that button!" I'd like to hear them.
Fingers crossed it arrives on Monday as the small cold spell and a little snow grinds the UK to a standstill...
Cheers,
Gavin
It's a great phone and it works just fine. I'm sure you'll love it
Upgrade to 1.61 Turkish ROM (can set to English)
or choose your favourite cooked (unofficial) ROM, however, "voiding" the warranty.
As has already been suggested- just play with it as it is.
Remember it isn't an iPhone so some things will be very different- maybe not better or worse, just different like going from a desktop Mac to a PC
Once you are familiar with it, then decide what you want to do with it and ask for advice here if needed.
I'd say DON'T mess with the ROM- yours should come with V1.48 which is just as good as the later builds in most areas. If you can't live with the HTC Sense interface and the huge amount of memory it uses, then later consider a cooked ROM, but they are not as reliable as they need to be just yet.
If you want to use this as a media device, you will need more than the supplied 2GB memory card, so be prepared to buy one!
In short this is a fantastic device- you will be surprised how much more it can do than an iPhone once you are familiar with it, and being able to run as many programs at the same time as you want will be a novelty! The MS Marketplace is a joke though! You will need to become familiar with buying programs online then manually installing them- not difficult though!
you're making great progress
i'd say:
tip 1: order HD2
tip 2: register as a user here
tip 3: play with phone
tip 4: search these forums for whatever your needs are (fixes to things you don't like/ problems you are having; advice for how to do things; applications you require)
Hi Gavin, welcome on board,
Don't be fooled, the HD2 is NOT an iphone. You will be tweaking things till you get it just right to suit you. This is the major advantage winmo devices have over others, ie if you don't like something you can tweak it or change it.
If you have not got the time or the inclination to do this then run like hell and get your iphone back quick. If you are up for the spirit of adventure and can live with a few niggles knowing that if you spend time on here you can sort them out then welcome to our world.
Start off by reading the hints & tips thread on here plus all the other similar threads here that have said the same thing as you ie "convince me to buy a HD2" and see what they say.
All the best,
WB
PS: I'm well happy with mine but then I have been with winmobile for 3.5 years and am quite used to tweaking and changing things as part of a generally very enjoyable ownership experience.
Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
I've no problem with tweeking things, I'd rather that than stuck with no options on the "locked down" zPhone!
It's things like the volume and SMS problems that concern me
Cheers,
Gavin
I was looking over the internet yesterday and I found CLEAN english rom wm6.5 for Jack...At least that's what one chinese guy told me on a forum (chinese):
So maybe thing will move forward a lil' bit for us, Jack users.
Download:
IN TXT (since I'm a newbie-url lock)
I bet lots of you is still waiting for this.
I have it running...It's nice...although it has few glitches....lil chinese here and there...but beside that it really handy and CLEAN
I'm not an expert on this sort of thing, nor do I pretend to be one (although not from a lack of understanding, simply a lack of knowledge.) I gave it a shot. It seemed like it lags a little bit more than the standard Samsung/AT&T ROM. There were several things I liked about it including the new interfaces and much improved task manager and file explorer. There's a little bit too much Chinese in it for me (I tried to do a few tweeks but many of the registry/system files are in Chinese)
Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge/experience can help to make this a more user friendly ROM.
Yeah. I figured to compare this chinese rom with the original (treat chinese as a base model) and figure out which stuff to throw away from original...
And maybe do the other way around and figure out which stuff can be added to original.
But taht's just be...newbie talk.
cheers
Here is my 2 cents...
Maybe I shouldn't have bought these phones... I got 2 for a penny each. I ugraded to a Tilt 2 instantly.... My wife is still on the Jack.
It is God awful of a ROM loadaout for what it is... it's got alot under the hood for it's form factor and can perform nicely with the right tweaks and interface.
Sadly, The interest in this project is not at all dissimilar to Samsungs interest in Winmo as a whole. This is undoubtedly why we do not see the released ROMs from Sammy like we do with HTC.
HTC seems to know that if the public can enhance the device... They will buy the device. Samsungs lock and subsequent turnabout away from Microsoft will leave many users of this device in the dust and looking to ditch it quick. I did.
@ mykail or anyone who can help...:
Were you able to find a clean ROM for this phone?
I would love to upgrade to WM 6.5, but my device is unlocked, so the ATT option is not the best option for me (though it exists).
I have spent several days looking for it, but you've been longer than me, i just got the phone a week ago.
I appreciate any help in this issue.
I changed phones. I'm running HTC now on Android.
About the Jack. Haven't been searching for clean rom since November. Just few seconds ago popped in to our chinese friends and they are still developing. From what I saw it appears they are running Jack @ Win7.

Help with ROM issues
Hi Guys,
At first i must say sorry for re-open this post. there is a lot of months since the last response.
I bought a samsung sgh-i637 in LatinAmerica, playing on the internet i used the AT&T ROM for upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.5 but as you know that rom has a lot of programas of AT&T and also they change the major of keys (keypad) functionability... and at the end the phone still stay locked for AT&T.
I want to know if is possible get a ROM without the AT&T programs and also that it unlock my phone for use with any phone operator.
Thanks a lot!
I have a G550T T-Mobile US unlocked, and I am trying to find stuff like custom ROMs, tools and packs for this phone. Problem is, since this device wasn't launched properly by Samsung or did it ever get any attention, no one seems to own this so there just is not anything I can find on XDA.
My question is, will this device be able to get any attention? The best I can do right now is be a tester for it as I'm not a huge phone user so if I break my phone, I'm perfectly fine as I don't need it, but would love to make this my every day phone soon. I have no carrier. I am trying to learn Java and Android Development and Hacking so I can contribute to this device.
Thanks c:
