All About Blackberry on Universal - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Ok since we have threads for everything else I decided to post this one about using your XDA Exec, Universal, Jasjar as a Blackberry device.
Please post everything you know about this topic under this thread so we don't have to search all over the forums for this info.
I currently have an O2 XDA Exec running a T-Mobile Rom, spec are as follows:
ROM Version: 1.20.32 WWE
ROM Date: 11/16/05
Radio Version: 1.06.00
Protocol Version: 42.40.P8
ExtROM version: 1.20.120 WWE
Blacberry Active Sync Desktop Version 2.1.0
Blackberry connect software 2.10
Mobile service Provider Cingular
SIM card is GSM GPRS 3G my blackberry service is BES Blackberry Enterprise server and we use Lotus Domino as the Exchange server or PUSH server.
This ROM is slow and not very stable and is not AKU2... What I am looking for is a New T-Mobile ROM that works with the Blackberry software or any other new rom (WWE) that will work with the BB software.
I have tried many different ROMs but the T-Mobile one works but as stated is weak and un stable.

ok i'm dumb. i have a blackberry, and an XDA. i hate the blackberry, but the BES services are fine. how can i get the software to run my XDA as a blackberry? the BES server is owned/operated by my company.
thanks!

Flash it with the T-Mobile ROM apparently!

i doubt it. blackberry only purports to offer the blackberry connect software for the XDA O2, not the UNIVERSAL. also it's only provided to carriers in the UK. hang|man is flying the US colors. also the software looks like it's provided as a layered application, not as a wholesale ROM.
our IT department only allows BES remote clients. if i could run the software on a PDA i would be happy. hopefully it's not the whole blackberry application stack, that's the part that's the most akward to work with. i would like it to utilize the poutlook email/calendar/contact applications.

nah tmob deffo has it on my old rom it had its own blackberry set up,110% sure

mm really? are any of the roms on the ftp the one with the software?

I use the BlackBerry connect with a Qtek9000 with the latest official Qtek ROM. The blackberryconnect software (and the also needed desktop software to activate) can be downloaded from Vodafone in germany:
http://support.vodafone.de/index_l3_2z.html
It works great with my KPN (netherlands) BB UMTS simcard, I am using it now for a few weeks without any problems (Using BES4 with Exchange)
So the version offered on the site does work with AKU2 and seems to be operator independent!
btw:I am using the version offered for the VPA compact IV

ooo! swell! i'l load it up tomorrow thanks! i hope it works

The ROM I posted in the original topic is a ship set from T Mobile, I have an O2 Exec and flshed it with the T Mobile rom and then used the Blackberry connect desktop sync and bb software for the MDA Vario, it works fine.
I use Cingular for my cell phone and blackberry. What I did was take my sim card out of the new 8720 BB and put it in my O2. Everything works fine with the software.
Only problem is the T Mobile ROM is not AKU2 and it is not the most stable ROM out there. The Radio is version 1.06 and seems to do okay in the US.
I did get Ivans new AKU3 beta 6 installed and the BB worked for about three emails then it just went into an eternal signal hunt and would not connect to the bb enterprize server again, I reflashed with the T-Mobile rom and I got everything back. There must be some CAB files in that ROM that allow the BB software to work better.

Hi, are you using the aku2 Rom?
Thanks

Yes,
At this moment I'am only using the blackberry Connect for receiving my e-mail.
My Calendar/ Contacts and Tasks are synced by using Exchange Server Sync.
So both technologies can coexist!

Many thanks RommelAcc. Would you be kind enought to detail the steps to connect your universal to your exchange server through the Blackbery client? I've read elsewhere that you have to install / configure the applications in a specific order to get it to work. Many thanks for your help.

Nothing special:
Install the BlackBerry Connect Desktop on a PC running ActiveSync (4.2 in my case) and Outlook. You need an online connection to you Exchange server (I don't know to configure with Notes).
Install de BlackBerry Connect software on your PDA. And follow the instructions on the screen.
Start the BB Connect Desktop and select 'connect' this will generate an encryption key that is transferred to the PocketPC.
(The BB Connect cannot be activated over the air, you will need a dektop with outlook connected online to your exchange server!)

many thanks, for your instructions. will give it a shot tomorrow.
Cheers.

i installed my blackberry sim in my universal and the black berry software software is working ok for my too. i can sync email and calendar from outlook/exchange. i use activesync for contacts. seems to work ok. although too things have been happening:
1) the PDA hangs constantly on a call to the blackberry software/mailbox after a power off. but during the time between a reset and the power off, it works ok. just can't ever turn it off
2) the blackberry software has to be restated manually after a reset.
is it my ROM, or what... don't know.
edit: ok still playing with it... i had it installed on the SD card when i had the hangs problems. i reinstalled it in main memory, and it seems to be ok. is this what everyone else does?

I have it installed in memory, not on SD...
I had lots of problems with software installed in SD.

ok here's a probably dumb question. how co i configure a new internet connection to use the SIM card? i had internet2.voicestream.com, somehow i think this changes to something else, but i don't know what it is. i tried blackberry.voicestream.com, and internet3.voicestream.com but they don't work either. do i need a seperate data plan on this SIM too? odd, how the blackberry browser worked on the BB7390 then.
edit: when i try to add a different network setting and it's connecting (then failing) i see a 'blackberry' connection trying to reconnect too, but there is no connection setting for it.
do other people have this problem? or am i missing a setting, or do i need another data plan?
edit2: weird my blackberry mailbox is inaccessible. it's on the today screen, but inbox doesn't see it.

I had the same experience with SD installation. After reinstall onto Main me everything works fine except the fact that sometime the messenger does not see the BlackBerry folders. ****ty ! When i've created another email dummy account the BB folders reappears for 3-4 hours and then dissappeared again. After i removed the dummy account the BB folders appeared again, but... again only foor 4-5 hours. Donnot how to deal with it.
Anybody can help ?

i have missing BB folder too.
i setup a wap.voicestream.com connection, and all my net apss seem to work now. what is the right thing to do?
edit: one more weirdness. i got a phone call from t-mobile when they add my voice plan. after this the BB application complained that it was 'block - radio in use' until i reset it. (the restart on reset problem seems to be gone, maybe that was from installing on the SD card)

BB Connect on XDA Exec??

Has anyone set the XDA Exec up to work with Blackberry yet?
Is the BB Connect software available for Universal users to download?

Surely we need to be waiting for AKU2 for push email?
Yeah, my company has Exchange 2003 and BES, so I would prefer to be spoiled for choices.
I really just asked the question because:
- Sometime before the Universal launched, HTC & RIM announced that BB connect could be used on their devices (I assume that's if operators wanted to support it).
- Since then I have not heard one thing about BB Connect running on an HTC PPC.

This of course is in the ideal world, we already have BES in place which works well, I had a BB7100V before I foolishly bought the XDAIIS with its poor Bluetooth but reasonable BBConnect software, my only choice for corporate email is BB.
Will the BlueAngel Cab work on the Universal? I know the OS is different but surely the underlying code is not too dissimilar. The reason Im looking for the Universal is for a better BT stack to work with all my devices e.g. car kit, phone headset, activesync.
Almost working, but not quite
I managed to get the T-Mobile BB Connect software installed on my Qtek 9000 using the current ROM (AKU1). I also installed the desktop software and got it talking to the device and synched (desktop). All policies and services got loaded from our BES server.
The only remaining "minor" problem is that it won't connect online to the UK RIM servers. Can't find a log file with enough info, so I'm not sure of the cause. Over in the Wizard forum people have mentioned that RIM may block certain IMEI/PIN combinations.
Since this is a German Qtek updated with the generic English Qtek ROM, running T-Mobile BB Connect software, connecting to my BB account with Swisscom, can't say as I'm shocked. :?
I've got a call in to see if we can fix it, though.
Ever optimistic....
ok I now have this working with a Tmobile UK Rom as the base and Tmobile BBconnect software, works very well, you will get the PIN from the service you will however not get an IP address, I spent over a week trying to debug this, it appears that theres something hardcoded somewhere that requires the match between the ROM and the BB software before it will work. Dont ask me what as I have no idea, I'm now hoping that O2 bring out a version soon as the Tmobile UI sucks with its gay pink logos and buttons....
BB Connect up and running with Swisscom
With help from tonyb15re, I was also able to get Enterprise BB working. It took a very specific ROM which appears to be matched to the BB Connect package. The device is a generic Qtek, the carrier is Swisscom, all the ROMs are T-Mobile UK.
The ROM which works is (from the FTP site):
UNI_TMUK_12032_120_10600.exe
Other T-Mobile ROMs and the latest generic Qtek ROM did not establish a connection.
Thanks again to tonyb15re for the help.
Hi,
Where did oyu get the T-mobile BB connect software from?
Scott
In the Wizard forum, they mentioned that the files were supposed to be on the XDA FTP server. But when the server got trashed a bit ago, the files disappeared. Therefore, I picked them up from T-Mobile Germany. Look here:
https://after-sales-service.t-mobile.de/eg_online/t-mobile/t_mda_vario.htm
The first two links under "Software Updates" are the BB Connect client and the Desktop program respectively. They are language aware, so the program will run in English, even if the installer is German.

Hi, Can u confirm the following works fine on Universal or Universla clones
Thanxs cheer, Taurus
Yes. If you use the exact T-Mobile ROM together with the Vario BB Connect package, it works properly on my Qtek 9000 in Enterprise mode. I cannot verify the Internet mode.
Good luck,

I just re-uploaded the files again (and fixed the thread in the Wizard forum)
I currently have a Blue Angel running 2003 and a Tmob uk rom 112 and the BB connect software, the BES works really well. To answer some questions I have some info that you may need. My company runs BES over voicestream (Tmobile USA) in the service contract it only provisions for the BES push mail on the blackberry.net server (linked to voicestream) Sooo what I am getting at is this, if your company only signed up for the BES push that is all you are going to get. If your company signed up for the BES and internet then you will be able to use the blackberry server and the mobile telephone companies wap or web client ip address.
In other words unless your plan includes web access via the internal modem you are not going to be able to get to the internet via the cell phone.
You will be able to get to the internet via the wireless lan card tho!
Also just another note,, when you connect to the BB client you get your corporate mail but if you enable the wifi then it disconnects from the BES, you have to then reconnect to the BES after you are done with the wifi session.
Some of my findings -
The BBConnectt from T-Mobile works ONLY with the
UNI_TMUK_12032_120_10600.exe
It works using ANY BB service provider.
The biggest problem is that the ROM UNI_TMUK_12032_120_10600.exe
is damn old, slow, the RAM is leaking and it is not stable at all.
Otherwise this is all ok. Today i will try to run BBConnect on my Universal using latest QTEK ROM and RADIO + TMO Extended ROM. I do not really beleive that BBConnect software is sticked to the EXACT TMO ROM. Will keep ypou informed.
I've tried it on the older O2 ROM, spent days trying to get the TMO BB Connect working on that, it didnt work, I even downgraded the radio to 1.06 which didnt work, the only combination I could get to work was the latest Tmob rom. works well for me, was going to upgrade to the latest O2 but cant be bothered..
I managed to get BB connect working on optus australia by installing the T Mobile UK rom as mentioned above... but then I went and upgraded the radio to 1.09 and everything stopped working from there.....
thats because for some obscure reason it needs 1.0.6 radio.. Try downgrading the radio..
I can't seem to get this to work, I have the right ROM and BB connect software in my Exec and the BB service is running but it will not do lookups and I am not getting mail....
Could someone post the right rom and bb software again to make sure I have the right one?
Many thanks...
New QTEK Radio 1.11 works
Just to share (apologies if someone else has already shared)...
I have the "standard" T-Mobile AKU1 ROM (vodafone SIM on a O2 Exec) and just tried upgradding the radio to to the new QTEK 1.11 radio......and it WORKS!
QTEK Radio rom is on the FTP site. Looks like we are no longer stuck with Radio 1.06.
I had to install the standard ROM Package first, then just upgrade only the radio (after BB connect was installed) - all connected perfectly.

HTC TyTN - Replace your blackberry!

I'll admit, I take a lot of good info from these boards and am usually far too busy to post. But this time I feel I have something great to share.
I bought a TyTN the other day...got here Wednesday. I was sick so I didn't start to play much with it until today.
Let me just set the tone here: I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET AROUND MY CORPORATE IT DEPARTMENT FOR YEARS. FIRST I GOT MY SPRINT TREO TO GET BLACKBERRY EMAILS, BUT NOT TRUE PUSH...THEN I GAVE UP FOR A WHILE AND USED A SPRINT 7250...but BB's are A WASTE, LESS FUNCTIONAL, and just a POOR CHOICE for today's mobile professional.
Now I have found today: The HTC TyTN can VERY EASILY be made into a corporate BES-connected Blackberry if you so desire, and conencted to YOUR CURRENT corporate BES account, without their intervention! I have done this with my Sprint 7250 BB account, and done it back and forth all day from T-mo to Cingular (Cingular wins out because of 3G of course...gotta have good slingbox when I can!)
All you need is a 'blackberry enabled SIM card' (really, just add the unlimited BES ENABLED (NOT THE "PERSONAL") blackberry plan to T-mo or Cingular) and a corporate BES account (that you haven't been able to touch for years, LOCKING you to a USELESS paperweight of a dumb-phone!) I know some others were lucky enough to have a Cingular SIM card in their corporate BB already and this wasn't a big deal. But I was not and I see many other are having trouble starting out with with non-Cingular blackberry devices. So check out how I ended up getting my way, finally after 4 years!
0) Insert (or go buy) a personal, non-blackberry-enabled Cingular (3G) SIM card. You should be able to surf for UMTS/HSDPA data and all that...
1) Install BBConnectr_PocketPC_BB_2.1.2.16 on the HTC TyTN.
2) Install Activesync2.1.1.9 for mobile on the desktop.
3) Connect the HTC to the computer via USB, then open PC's Activesync 2.1.1.9. You will be asked if you want to change your PIN -- say YES! (you can always go back. Remember, it DOES NOT MATTER what service your BB is CURRENTLY through...we are going to make it through Cingular for you here in a second!)
4) Call Cingular and have them add the unlimited $49.95 blackberry plan, assumedly on top of your unlimited data plan. While I was willing to pay $145 a month to have everything in one device, just to spite my corporate IT department, here's the catch: They will come back and say you can't have both! Take the Unlimited blackberry plan (which will allow the PocketPC BB Connect software you installed to get through Cingular's network to "blackberry.net" So Instead of $40 for unlimited data, $10 more is getting my (and i have tested it) 3G data and blackberry.net access!
From there, you should be good like me.
I'm still figuring out the nuances, like how to minimize down-time after web surfing for BB connect to get back 'connected' again. I suspect in an all-3G area (in which i am NOT), this may not be an issue.
I have placed the updated, verified as working (on both T-mo and Cingular) versions of Activesync2.1.1.9 and BBConnect_PocketPC_BB_2.1.2.16 in the "upload" directory of the web site. (as well as the 2.1 manual) That is /Hermes/Tools_and_Programs. Hopefully it gets moved over soon.
Keep on rocking everyone -- we are forging new capabilities together that make our lives easier, more fun, and more convenient!
Love and bruises,
Greg
It's your IT group that's at fault btw... I'm the technology guy for our IT group and we're getting rid of the BES and switching to direct push instead. Why? Tell your IT dept this: a BES places a 50% higher IO load on your Exchange server . This is because it must scan all blackberry enabled mailboxes every second or so looking for changes!
Now that devices like the Q have the MSFP, our execs have a nice alternative to their 8700s.
I've also installed LCS 2K5 with an Access Proxy and we are now all moving to Mobile Communicator for IM. This is a great little program that also gateways to AIM and Yahoo.
I believe IT should empower their users with technology, not be a bunch of Nazis.....

even though this doesnt belong in this forum i figured you guys would know. do cingular blackberrys (the 8700) work on the new 3g network? and can u install AIM (a version that does not use text messages)?
Just tested TyTN with BIS and BES solutions, all works fine!!!
Messages are coming through UMTS channel where UMTS signal is available!
When you get an email via BES, can you read the attachments though?
does it also wirelessly sync your calendar and contacts with BES?
I seem to have it all working but when I restart the tytn, the blackberry service doesn't connect. The config program says 'no connection' (although it was fine right after I installed) Has anyone else seen this and got round it?
Quick config question on BBConnect...
For all those that have this successfully working on a TyTN - did you have to tweak any connection settings on the PPC ?
I've installed BBConnect (2.1.2.16) onto the PPC and BBDesktop (2.1.1.18) onto the PC. Used Activesync and got all my calendar entries over. Now when I come to have the BBC connect wirelessly, it fails to connect and eventually goes into 'Suspended by User' state.
I played around and defined a connection called 'Blackberry' with all the settings 'blackberry.net, rim, password etc..) and can now actually get it to Connect successfully...
The issue now is that no email flows.... in fact nothing flows at all and I can't send a message as it indicates it's a 'malformed message'.
Any ideas ?
I've had Cingular confirm that my data account is set up for 'BlackBerry Connect Unlimited'...
I never had a blackberry before so I'm into new territory here...
Any advice on how to get this working ?
Cheers
Dave
Does anybody knows which is the correct cingular blackberry plan for USA??????
Since some of you appear to have gotten Blackberry Connect working with Cingular on a mobile device I'm hoping you can give me some useful information. I have the service in place from Cingular, and have the understanding that with Blackberry Connect from Cingular I need no other data plan from them. It will cover all of my other data services. This part seems to be working fine. What's not working is the Blackberry Connect software itself. It always gives me "Blocked - Radio In Use". I am wondering if it is because I have a connection set up for "MY ISP" based on Cingulars default installation. If it's supposed to be using Blackberry Connect for data, should I be deleting the MY ISP configuration? Could that be what's keeping the radio in use? I would assume the only thing using the radio should be the Blackberry Connect service since that's the only plan I have.
Help?
Thanks
I get a message that the program cannot determine the type of network and to ensure the radio is on when I try to run Blackberry Connect for Pocket PC on my unlocked HP hw6945. It installed fine from the hosted exe file.
My theory is that the problem is the program is looking for the phone's frequency/band settings in WM5. The HP hides these as it features an automatic band/frequency transition radio. Does anyone know how to unhide WM5's menu and settings for the phone band/frequency?
BTW I have a new 64k Cingular smartcard sim with Blackberry Connect service (verified working with my Blackberry 7100t unlocked).
Hi all !
Was anybody able to run BlackBerry Connect on Cingular 1.31 ROM ?
It was run without any problems for me on 1.34, but does not work on 1.31.
Anybody else with the same problem ?
Regards,
baudy2
I followed HTC TyTN - Replace your blackberry instructions and software installs fine on Cingular 8525. I received system book from BES, but after the 8525 connects, a few minutes latter the Blackberry goes to "Suspended by user" and email is never received. Does anything else need to be setup, ie a different connection in the network connections on the device?
Thanks

The Calendar and Contacts works fine!! You need to find the contacts....its the same of BBconnect for Nokia.
But you cant view all the attachments, only excel, word.....
Not read .jpg .mp3 and more.
HP6945 update
I happened to go overseas last week and while there and roaming on O2 I was able to get past the second screen and get the BB Connect to start. However, it would not generate the PIN (status: "pending"). Hoping that once past that obstacle once back on Cingular US I could get further, but no joy.
Right now I'm trying the Xpress Mail product which pushes and syncs calendar and email via a redirector; it seems to be finicky though.

Getting the HTC TyTn to work with Exchange ActiveSync/DirectPush in Japan

Here is what I've done so far. Anyone with experience or anyone who has successfully gotten their setup to work, please chime in !
1. Install the JASJAM_WWE_1.20.305.3_1.20.305.104_1.07.03.10_ship.exe rom. Test. Works fine when connected by USB, syncs to any Exchange server with no problem.
However, When I try to sync to any Exchange Server or a different Exchange server through the GPRS connection, it sits on "Synchronizing folders", then "Looking for Changes" and finally after a few minutes of doing nothing, it just gives up and goes back to "Waiting for network".
2. As a test, I've tried to install a different ROM. This time ME_DT_WWE_1182553_106_10303_Ship.exe. Now when I try to connect to the GPRS connection, it retries the dial twice, then it "Dialed : open.softbank.ne.jp. Cannot connect for an unknown reason. Check your connection settings, etc.". This is after installing the SoftBank extended ROM and doing a hard reset, which worked fine for the previous i-mate ROM.
Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
logimob
Wireless OK
After doing some more testing, and changing back to the original i-mate ROM, it seems to sync to Exchange just fine using a Wireless connection.
However going back to GPRS, and it's back to doing exactly the same "synchronising folders"/"looking for changes".
To this date, I have never had a successful GPRS sync - has anyone else?
Japan users?
There are no Japan users with SoftBank GPRS ActiveSync working....?
Hi there, Andrew (you sent him an email) point me to this thread, and will try to reply here. Actually I didn't flash my X01HT yet, but I use Exchange daily on my HTC Mteor and HTC Universal with open.softbank.ne.jp, it works flawlessly. I am waiting for HTC Taiwan to send me back my HTC Hermes (Dopod) back from reparation to try.
But ! Even with my X01HT in Japanese I have sometimes difficulties to connect to the internet and I also have the same error as yours. So this is not really only a ROM issue here.
Now I hard reseted my X01HT and soft reset it before installing the Extended ROM, so there, I do not have any Softbank crap installed my my device and once the open.soft... stuff set I have no problem neither.
Finally I know that some ROM are not Japanese network friendly, for example on my HTC Universal, with an iMATE ROM, I cannot place any Video call, nor access to my voice mailbox correctly, I can dial 1416, but when I want to access to my voice mail... it doesn't work.
Now on ALL my device here in Japan I only install a Dopod ROM, they are, as far as I am concerned the best ROM ever made and with them EVERYTHING WORKS, and I will strongly advise you to try to install a Dopod Rom on your Hermes. If you do not have it on the FTP, I have one on my desktop at the office that HTC Taiwan sent me (HER_DopodAsia_1237074_1060010_WWE_SHIP)
Fantastic, I'll try to install the rom at www.dopodasia.com/download/HER_DopodAsia_1237074_1060010_WWE_SHIP.exe
and see how I go. Thanks very much for your help and ideas.
Sorry to hear about your sick HTC Hermes!

After flashing the Hermes with the new Dopod image, it keeps giving me a
Network Wizard error.
I tried adding the open.softbank.ne.jp settings, but it didn't work.
Then I replaced the Extended ROM with the Softbank Extended ROM. Then the settings for SoftBank were automatically configured - but don't work. It says "the current connection cannot be used for your request". Also, the network wizard comes up every soft reset and says "Your current operator (44020) is not supported. You should obtain an update from your device vendor".
This is kind of confusing - do you have any advice? Did you use the Extended ROM as it was?
Thanks very much for your help
"Your current operator (44020) is not supported. You should obtain an update from your device vendor".
Do not worry for that I have the same problem.
Now you are telling me that you cannot login at all, cannot surf at least the internet?
Just a quick thought... my SBS do not have a real SSL, this is a SBS SSL, so when I quote the box SSL connection in my Mteor or Hermes... it won7t work... try to unquote this box...
Hi there,
Thanks for your reply. I've been messing around on this all night/all day again, and I've made some slow painful progress!
Firstly, I'm glad you had the same problem. Now I'm reassured that the problems are not related.
Next up, I've been trying to get the internet working. I managed to get it to connect before, but whenever I tried to access any site through IE, I got the error "エラーが発生しました。リクエストが不正です。 wj46000e".
I have since done a few hard-resets, and now it doesn't connect, despite me putting in the connection details 10's of times. I now get the error "Dialed : open.softbank.ne.jp. Cannot connect for an unknown reason"
Did you ever have these kinds of problems?
What kind of extended rom are you using? I just copied and pasted the whole Softbank Extended ROM, which worked perfectly on the JASJAM ROM.
If you have any ideas, I'd be really grateful.
Thanks very much

Ok so this stuff
エラーが発生しました。リクエストが不正です。 wj46000e
I also get this error while ago... actually the first time I had my X01HT and with the Japanese ROM.
I really do not know what is going on with your device, I just hardreset my HTC Universal and put ALL the setting by hands, NO cab from crap Softbank, and it WORKS !
We should maybe meet one day, and try to let me see your device...
Fantastic - you're really giving me hope that one day soon I'll have a fully functioning device!!
I'll try restoring the original Extended ROM and inputting all the settings manually again. Hopefully it'll work this time.
I'd love to meet up for a chat and a show and tell session! I'd like to see your fully functioning device. Send me a private msg and I'll reply with my Skype/Email address.

Ok Will PM U, but just for reference I flash back my Universal to its orginal ROM and not the 1.90 that we can found here, and straight after the flashing, I put manually the Softbank setting and... WORKS ! I am sure you made a mistake somewhere this is not possible otherwise
Ah ok I see... so you installed your original ROM. Is that available for download anywhere? I'd like to replicate your setup as closely as possible.

I just tried installing the other Dopod ROM - with exactly the same results. "cannot connect for an unknown reason". This same stuff worked perfectly on the JASJAM ROM, so I am starting to think these problems are somehow ROM related.
Where did you get your ROM from again?

This is a Rom for my universal, not my Hermes, My Hermes with a Dopod rom will be sent back to me today. And since my wife want to use the Japanese X01HT I didn't flash it to US... anyway let's meet and check this out.
Guys, are you using the standard Softbank PC Site Direct connection?
If so, you'll never get Exchange Activesync working unless you uncheck the box for "This server requires SSL" AND the Exchange administrator has configured the system to allow non-SSL connections.
Softbank's "open.softbank.ne.jp" connection is anything BUT open. They are doing port blocking and currently appear to only allow port 80, 25, 110 unless you use Pocket IE. This means that ActiveSync and most IM applications fail.
Softbank is reported to say that they plan to begin supporting Exchange ActiveSync "sometime in December" - until then, the port is closed and there is nothing you can do to make it work.
The workaround is to use [email protected] (but this can get very expensive). [email protected] does not have any port blocking.
Anybody heard any updates as to when Softbank will stop blocking the ssl port for Exchange ActiveSync? Still scheduled for sometime in December? This is killing me . . . so stupid that they would do something like this but so typical.
I will die and rot away before these bastards open up SSL...

I have been looking through the Japanese sites as well but haven't seen anything. I just keep testing every day. Frigging bastards... I told my Exchange and networking team in the US about it and they had never heard of a Windows Mobile device that was blocked from syncing with Exchange SSL over the wireless.
I have a friend in Korea though with a Samsung WM5 device - his works with Exchange but other ports are blocked so he can't use IM apps. So Japan mobile providers are even more backwards than in Korea.
Hi, hope this issue has been solved already but just in case:
Softbank open APN open.softbank.ne.jp *did not* allow SSL port to go through, so you needed to turn off SSL mode of ActiveSync.
It seems, though, since a few days ago, Softbank opend almost all ports for APN open.softbank.ne.jp thus you should be able to use SSL ActiveSync without problems.

Glad to hear it worked. Now my interest is how Softbank is going to treat PC users trying to use X01HT as a wireless modem. I personally hope they provide unlimited usage for $80-$90 per month... (after April)

BlackBerry Connect problems with latest HTC ship ROM

Hi folks,
I have just got myself an HTC TyTN and found this forum. I have been reading it for
a couple of days and managed to update the ROM on my phone to the latest HTC WWE version
on the wiki.
Loving the phone so far but I cannot get BlackBerry Connect to work.
I am running BlackBerry Connect 2.1.2.54 and using my UK O2 3G SIM which was previously
working great for BBConnect on my Nokia E61, so I know I am OK from the network side of things.
BBConnect installs OK, gives me a PIN OK, but when it tries to connect I get:
"Network Available" followed by
"Data Tunnel Available" followed by
"Not Connected"
I should mention that I am only using BlackBerry Internet Service, not the full-blown
BlackBerry Enterprise Service, so I have not installed the desktop part of the software,
only the client for the mobile.
I even tried to downgrade the ROM to the 1.35 version last night but the 1.35 updater
refused to let me.
Has *anyone* got BBConnect to work on the latest shipping ROM? Anyone have any details
about upcoming new versions of the BBConnect s/w?
Reg hacks?
I would be very grateful for any advice, will post back results.
Thanks,
Charlie.
PS: Is there any way to turn off the green flashing network status LED? It drives me crazy
PPS: If nothing will get BBConnect to work, anyone know of another solution to get my POP3
Yahoo mail pushed to my phone (I am UK based if that matters)?
I would appreciate some help with this same problem, but on Cingular USA.
New 8525, updated AT&T ROM, Cingular's Blackberry Personal data plan.
I was told by RIM they don't support Cingular and 8525, but I see many
users in this forum do have it working.
Have tried various version of BB Connect on my 8525, but they
all point to a blackberry.net IP address that ends in .189.
Some threads say it needs to be .192 for USA - is that my problem?
Thanks for your help !
I had Blackberry working fine on a T-Mobile Vario II, but last month that went back faulty (the dreaded lock-ups) and was replaced with a new unit.
I was unable to connect to Blackberry, getting the same response as Charlie. After much investigation TM were about to exchange the handset again when I received a call from TM saying that there was a known problem with a certain range of IMEI numbers on new handsets that were not able to connect with Blackberry. After checking we found that the IMEI of this new handset fell within the affected range.
I was told that it was a Blackberry problem, and that TM were expecting RIM to issue an update or patch to cure the problem. I decided then to remove the blackberry from my account and use other methods, so haven't pursued it.
So it seems there is a known problem with some HTC handsets, but as usual there's little being done about it!
bbc does not work with the new rom. to roll back, use the sdcard upgrade method in the wiki under rom updating for beginners.
this will take you back to 1.34..... sux.
wes
Can anyone else confirm that Blackberry Connect requires the original ROM?
As the previous poster said, that would sux.
Has anyone else been able to get the following to work?
1. Cingular US
2. Blackberry Connect Client (ver 2.1, not 4.0?) loaded onto 8525, running WM5
3. Get Client to generate a PIM
4. Use "Change Handheld" option on mycingular website to enter the new IMEI and PIN
5. Sucessfully access BIS
Please let me know which version of the 8525 ROM and BB Connect you used.
Thanks for your help!
Here's my setup:
1) Cingular 8525 SIM/CID unlocked (HardSPL 7)
2) Elf's 2.1 Crackberry ROM (WM6) - very nice stable build.
3) BBConnect 4.0.0.67 CAB
4) Cingular Blackberry Tethered Unlimited (both BIS and BES enabled)
Make sure you have a data connection working first.
BBConnect will issue you PIN after you click the Register button - you can see this in the BB Connect utility on your handheld.
You can then use this PIN and your phone IMEI on Cingular's BB site:
http://mycingular.blackberry.com/
Don't forget to download the Service books.
If your company has Outlook Web access for Exchange Server you can avoid BES.
BBConnect only allows 3 email boxes on a non-BB device.
Everything works fine except that the BB Service hogs the wireless connection so that I sometimes have problems with other services require internet connection.
Toss that Cingular ROM (even the latest 2.15 update) - it's worthless and a real headache - very unstable
I'm getting ready to install this, can you explain this comment:

Blackberry Connect

Has anybody gotten blackberry connect to work on a Herald?
I just tried it on mine and ended up hardreseting cause it would never boot completely after it.
Help
Are you saying that you cant get the gprs settings for the black berry plan?
I am running the employee blackberry plan on my wing and it works great.
If you are using the black berry internet plan you need to have your gprs connecting to wap.voicestream.com
where did you get the cab for your wing
Cab
I got the cab here:
http://thinkabdul.com/2007/05/30/do...obile-5060-smartphones-and-pocket-pc-devices/
The issue is I install it and it totally hangs my herald up to the poing that not even a reset works. I guess I'll try and see now with WM6, because I did that before upgrading.
Anybody know why it doesn't work?
Thanks
Is this only working on the factory rom or a cooked rom? Im going to test this tonight anyway but i like my Touch layout but wouldnt mind testing this. According the website it changes out the Windows icons and home page to match the needs of RIM.
I will post once i test.
After many hours of testing it doesnt work on the Herald at this time. The software is only good for the Dash. I have to finish my testing from work because it seems to only accept a BES server. I got the service onto the Dash. I will post later how it works but to be honest this process what not worth the trouble.
Maybe someone can work on a cab file to make this compatable with the Herald. Also Xavier, custs of T-Mobile cant use the BB service with the Wing. Employees are able to use it because you are not truely on the BES on windows you are using webmail to bypass the firewall. This software once it works on all Windows mobile phones will generate a PIN which is required for blackberry users to use its service.
Hope this info helps.
Hard reset your device, install the blackberry software, but install the software in the phone memory, and then synchronize etc. basicaly u need to have a clean device to have it working, i encountered the same problem i followed this procedure and it works on HTC P4350. a.k.a. Herald.
is it possible to get BlackBerry Messenger on a winmo device? if u have blackberry connect does that mean you also get blackberry messenger? or is blackberry connect only for emailing? (which new winmo devices from carriers seem to do just fine with push email). thx
Blackberry Connect not working on my Wizard
I'm trying to get Blackberry Connect running on my Wizard. I have a couple of issues that I haven't seen addressed anywhere in the forums.
First, my info:
Device = HTC Wizard G4, Cingular 8125.
OS = WM 6.1 TNT.19199 v2.
Carrier = AT&T w/ a PDA Enterprise data plan, which allows BBConnect
My company runs Blackberry Enterprise Server.
I was able to get Blackberry Connect 4.0 from here: http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=225
Does anyone have a more recent version?
Do you know if I still need to use a hex editor to spoof my OS version? I haven't tried that yet.
Does anyone currently have BBConnect running successfully on an AT&T data plan using your 8125's IMEI number?
I installed BBConnect 4, it rebooted, I tried activating the BB, but it just said "Not Connected". Occasionally if I go to Utility and click "Register" the status screen will say "Service: Network Available" then "Data Tunnel Available" then back to "Not Connected".
Can I please hear from anyone running BBConnect on a Wizard? What is your configuration? What is your version of BBConnect? Where did you get it? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

I am having this very issue. I have a new Wing, I am on Tmobile, I have a BES data plan for my sim. Lastly I have the BBC 4.0.0.97...Installed without issue to phone memory. But will never generate a pin. Even speaking to BES server over GPRS or 802.11 etc, it will not activate my corporate account. I took my card to Tmobile and tested on a true bb device.. Worked no issue.
So I would tend to agree with you regarding these folks not truely on BES service over celluar means. You might be catching internally via 802.11 but even that seems odd.
So, please if the "wing'ers" have this working share the info..
thanks all
