First, I have a question about the push feature of the new t-mobile release of wm5. I have read on forums about a G3 and G4 versions of the wizard. Does this affect the push email, because my icon in the comm manager is grayed out.
Second, does anyone here pop gmail? I have many problems when I try through edge or GPRS. I use the settings
pop.gmail.com:995
smtp.gmail.com:465
it downloads my sent and received emails in my inbox and everytime it reconnects to check for new mail it deletes the mail it downloaded earlier. Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas? Thanks.

hey... ur icon is probably grayed out cos u dont have a push mail server configured... push mail needs a exchange 2003 server with sp2... mail2web is a free mail service that'll give u free access to push mail...
gmail settings are such that u lose any mails that u have downloaded earlier... i've forwarded all mail from my gmail account to my mail2web account and configured the mail2web account for push mail... this way i get all mails coming into my gmail account instantly n they stay on the phone as long as i want them to...
hope this helps...
It helps a great deal thank you. Normally I expect to be able to turn something on and off without having it configured yet. I will try fowarding my gmail too.

How can I configure both my Jasjar and my GMail account to keep all my e-mails on my Jasjar everytime it attempts a send and receive? At the moment it just wipes them clear, leaving me up the creek without so much as a paddle.
Vanishing GMAIL
...bizarre - was just about to post the same question. This is very frustrating! You have to be quick to read your mail, as when the device performs another send and receive it wipes ur inbox!
I used to use Gmail with a POP account with ActiveSync Email with Hotmail with Text and with MMS all coexisting simultaneously and have never had the problem you indicated, all my mails remain until I delete them of my own accord.
Sorry I am not much help. I recently stopped syncing my Gmail as it just didnt get used, I now only use it to store my emails that I want to keep for a long long long time and use my hotmail account for every tom **** and harry that wants an email address
I just simply followed the steps on the gmail website to setup and never lost any.
I've just had a little play and it seems that it might have something to do with what happens to the e-mail on the GMail servers once it's been downloaded using POP.
I have been using POP to access my GMail account and I agree with Simon_Darley... it all works fine.
I use Gmail as a spam filter from various email addresses I have.... I copy (autoforward) all mails from all my different email addresses automatically so it filters the spam, and keeps the mails safe for me so I have an archive of all my incoming messages in one place.
I'm happy to compare settings if you want me to help
This has ALWAYS worked for me:

and yes I do exactly the same as Budgie... forward any other email account to my Gmail...
I've got it sorted. I had to change it to keep all of the e-mails in the inbox once they'd be downloaded using POP; made sense really.

I have used the settings above and can receive my mail but I can't send GMail, all I get is the following message...
"Unable to connect to the incoming mail server. Verify that the server name is correct then try again to send and receive mail."

yes if you follow the instructions and configure correctly sending/receiving works perfectly...
Don't you have Pocket MSN ?
Make sure you turn off the setting which deletes mails over 3 days old. This setting seems to be the default. Also have your gmail keep a copy of the messages and not delete them. (You have 2GB on gmail so its not much of a problem.)
You can also send email using gmail, just use the settings they give you (smtp.gmail.com I think?) and make sure you have SSL enabled.
Hello,
i have created a threat in the wizard forum, and now i see you have these problems too.
My wizard delete ALL Mail in Incoming when i send a mail. Whats the Reasen for this? Damn i want to keep my mail!
what worked for me is :
option 3/3
get message headers only
include 999kb of message body
using this setting I can send & receive when I want without losing my mail.
Damn jag_freeman you are the best!!! How do you get this idea??? But it works!!!!!
I own a domain and I'd like to set up an account on it ([email protected]) which will be pushed to my 8125. I checked with mail2web and they said I'd need to use their business plan since I'm using my own domain. Are there any other solutions someone could give me? I like the mail2web contact syncing feature since I don't have my home Outlook contact list cleaned up well, but I'm more interested in the PUSH feature.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Forwarding
I just forwarded my email address to mail2web email. Not a good solution but works
pop3
or you can set it up as pop3
pop3?
What do you mean by "set it up as a pop3"? Set what up as a pop3? And how does that get the mail pushed to my phone?
Pop3 mail won't push... its not direct push. You can have your phone connect and download email through a pop at certian time intervals... but its not instant like direct push... pop won't sync either
But it is a way you can get your mail on your PDA, so its better than nothing...
That was my understanding as well, General. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something there. So it still sounds like the best/only way for me to get the email pushed out to my phone is to use the mail2web service.
If anyone has any other solutions, please let me know. Thanks again for the help.
option
The other option is to pay for it... There are companies out there that host exchange server. As long as they have Win2003 (with some SP installed) - Push is instantly available.
I use Push email service provided by 4Smartphone (www.4smartphone.com). You can also go to www.port88.org. A.Kelly has a couple of posts on this site where he's providing free Exchange mail service...all you have to do is email him.
HELP!
I'm new to the whole mobile email thing. I recently bought an 8525 and I'd really like to set it up for push email but I just don't have a good understanding of what to do and how to do it.
Can someone point me in the right direction? Is there a wiki for mobile email? I have about a half dozen POP3 accounts now that I'm accessing via Outlook 2003 on my PC.
Thanks in advance
Dave the Noob!
Hi Dave...i feel this is something which isnt particularly documented in the wiki so you wont get a standard "Read the wiki etc.." reply hehe
The BEST thing i ever did was to get a gmail account, and route ALL my emails through it, by applying tags to the emails you receive you can easily tell which account they are from. Pop3 accounts can be checked at regular intervals by gmail so no problem there, and if you filter them appropriatly you can get certain emails pushed to your phone via an exhcnage account. You can get a free push email account (exchange account) using mail2web.com's service.
The best thing about doing this is gmail's spam filter works VERY well, and you get 2GB of space.
I personally get selected emails routed to my push account (kindly provided by walshieau....not a public service) , and also the exchange account holds my contacts and appointments.
After a ROM flash all i gotta do is sync with the exchange account and my contacts/emails and appointments are restored.
I have a Nexus One working fine on Orange.
I use it for my Blueyonder email account which is set up just the same as it was on my Hero.
The problem is this:
I get the email notification to say i have new emails, then i go into my emails and the emails are there. Then it starts to refresh my emails and then before my eyes there all disappear! It deletes them before i have chance to read them.
If i then go onto my pc to check my emails there are none there. So its obviously deleting them from the server.
Now i have checked double and triple checked the settings. Its definitely not set to delete from server or even delete when read.
Any help will be appreciated as i dont know what is going on and I'm losing important emails.
I take it you are using the native email client?
Maybe this is not the answer that you are looking for but I use the Gmail App instead of the native Email client. That way I get the benefit of Push without having to refresh.
If you are interested in doing the same then all you have to do is..on your PC:
Gmail > Settings > Accounts and Import > Check mail using POP3: > Add POP3 email account.
Then all blueyonder emails will be pushed to the Gmail App and you can set a label for them as well.
Yes i am. I`m just upset that it doesnt work just like the Hero did. That was spot on..
I`ll try your idea if no one comes up with a solution for me. Cheers.
I agree with Abbsta... you should to add your blueyonder account to gmail and receive all your blueyonder emails in gmail account.
it is much easier and being a google phone it works well with gmail accounts...
I did what you said and its spot on cheers..
Just an update. Spoke to HTC had no idea why it was doing but suggested i use imap instead of pop3.
It worked!
Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is a Newb question.. but i'm kinda stumped.. it's funny cause i have everything else down to a reflex.. (registry hacks, flashing, etc) but this is posing to be a irritating problem for me...
My outlook mail account dows not retrieve mail until i sync with my laptop.. which kinda sucks IMO... but then i noticed the Microsoft Direct Push tab.. and it states that it would retrieve OUTLOOK mail as it arrives.. so i'm trying to set it up and I am currently stuck.. ANY HELP??
after i enter my outlook e-mail and password, it then asks me for a UserName.... The password box is already filled in... Then it asks me to fill in a Domain... and then a Server Address... so yea.. i don't know exactly what i'm supposed to put in here.. any help guys?
It's not quite as simple as it looks like it should be unfortunately.
For push email to work correctly, the phone must sync with a Microsoft Exchange server. It wont just sync with your POP3 based email via outlook in push mode.
You have a few options however...
1. Manually configure your phone to send/recieve via POP3/SMTP every 5 minutes.
2. Use Google Sync. Google sync is basically a fake exchange server which you can connect your phone to. You need to set up a gmail account, and then have all your regular email forwarded to it, then you can set up Push Email on your phone to sync with your gmail account in realtime. This is what I have done to get around the problem as I don't have my own exchange server.
Full instructions are on the Gmail site.
The only downside is that at present, any replies you send from your phone will show up in the recipients inbosx as coming from your gmail address, not your regular email address. This isn't a problem for me as I rarely reply from my phone.
Hope this helps!

wow.. that sucks lol
thanks though man.. appreciate the help
No problem. Unfortunately it's a limitation of the protocol, not the phone. Direct push can not work over POP3/SMTP, it needs an exchange server to actively "push" the emails to any device or inbox.
