I have the TyTN and would like to stream video and audio but suspect I need a program designed to do that (?) I have pocketv and tcpmp -- can someone tell me what I need to do?

I am using a slingbox and their wm5 player. This will allow you to watch live TV or any other video source connected to the slingbox.
the cost is about 150 for the box and 30 for the software, but it is awesome!
I can watch live tv (and able to change the channel) on the train ride home.

You register at www.orb.com and configure your computer with the program/webpage. Then point Pocket IE to www.orb.com and use it. It's very basic and easy, and doesn't harm your TyTN.
I tried to set up a stream on my LAN using VLC. Other computers may view and hear the stream using WMP, but Pocket WMP refuses to play it because "The parameter was not set correctly" (or something like that). Anyone know what's wrong?
With Unreal Media Server server you need a tv card in your pc.
I have an old Pinnacle RAVE TV card in my PC. I've installed Umedia server on my PC and set this up to capture and stream the tv card. I can watch decent quality TV from anywhere in the house using the free Umedia player. I also have a fixed IP address from my ISP. Having unblocked the relevant firewall port, I can also watch TV via 3G connection, albiet at reduced quality because of the lower bandwidth available.
There is a PC and Pocket PC client player available from http://www.umediaserver.net/download.html. The Pocket PC client is all that is needed on your TyTN.

TV Tuner is not there in your phone or that matter any of ours and never will be.
You maybe able to see streaming TV over GPRS if you're ready to pay exhorbitant GPRS rates for the same.
Use SnapStream's BeyondTV and you can stream live TV from your PC's TV tuner to your Pocket PC. I did that with my PDA2k, I'll do it again with my JAM.
With BeyondTV, you can surf right to your home PC's BeyondTV Web Server to play back any recorded shows or watch live TV using Pocket Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player.

Hi,
I use my windows Media Center to record all tv shows that i like (as i have little time to watch wat i realy like). After mce has recorded this to disk you can tell your media player on the pc to sync all recorded tv from the last 5 days to your magician. This way i always have my fav. tv with me when i am on the train.

Ps; you will need an SD card for this as 1h of tv is about 100Mb when Mediaplayer converts it for the magician.

Has anyone got an idea how to use one pocketpc to act as an webcam and stream the video to another pocketpc (Both wm5) over a wifi or gprs connection?
Been searching for a solution several weeks now.
Webcamplus (ateksoft) almost does the job. It can stream from a pocketpc to any computer connected on the web, but can't seem to stream it to another pocketpc directly.

Server there makes streaming possible
The comvu streamer encoder is nice, but the service is bloated and too expensive. The typical american/canadian $$$ ****. I'm trying to get things working with a current build of VLC for WinCE.
Actually the Ateksoft solution looks nice. If it is a standard streaming protocol it should be possible to play the stream with coreplayer or VLC for WinCE.
Update:
I had a closer look to both apps. Ateksoft WebcameraPlus sends full jpeg images to PC via TCP to port 2047. Framerate is around 1.5-2.5 fps. Not impressive.
The pocketvu executable includes all DLLs it needs and the core is made of VCTMID_CODEC.dll made by HTC. I think it is possible to reroute traffic directly to PC or Mobile device instead of to the Comvu server. I think it'll be possible to stream directly from the mobile to VLC or Coreplayer. Must do some sniffing to see if that's really feasible.

We've been experimenting with comvu here, but connections are really unstable.
With sniffing you should try to find out whether it uses DNS to find the comvu host to send the stream to. If that is the case one can use DNS spoofing to reroute the traffic to your own host. Next thing to do is to find out what streaming protocol and which container is used. The easiest way to do that is to open the rerouted stream in VLC and try all stream formats (http, rtp, udp, ..). VLC will recognize the codecs automatically. If your lucky they don't use a proprietary protocol. Once you can open their stream it is easy to redistribute it to your clients. If you can sniff the traffic, it is also possible to find out what protocol and codecs they use by analyzing the packets. I don't have much time lately so if you don't wonna wait for me then hook up your wlan router and PC to a hub and install Wireshark on the PC and start sniffing. There are also sniffers running on your mobile device, might be a bit easier.
I was curious to find out if anyone is using anything out there to broadcast their TV Tuner signal to their Touch Pro 2 and it's working...
I have tried Orb, ever since they updated for Windows 7, and although I can get it to work using my laptop, I can't get my Touch Pro 2 to connect. Whenever I try and get the signal to my CorePlayer, it hangs without a signal.
I wouldn't use it enough to get SlingBox, but MyTinyTV that worked wonderfully on my HTC Wizard hasn't been supported in a couple years.
Anyone have any suggestions?

orb and core player
I've found that when using orb some setting need to be tweaked on coreplayer. go to menu>tools>setting then select the network page and set user agent spoof to never. that makes streaming videos work for me. not sure about live TV though.

Try streaming through Windows Media Player or Streaming Media both are allready installed and seem to work fine for me.
With Streaming Media the video does seem to come in smaller but you can change the buffer up to 25 seconds so sometimes it worth it.
Change stream format in the orb web interface on your phone to:
.asx - for Windows Media Player
or
3GP-AAC/RTSP - for Streaming Media

Yeah, I just realized that this is a TV application. I don't care about all these garbage stations that broadcast online. I want my FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, and others...
My 2cents..
I would personally start with webcam stream apps and set my TV card as the active cam, set the pc up as a webserver/streamer with some obscure port #, set the stream-cam app to stream 2 disk, and then connect to it by direct IP : port with a suitable player on the phone.
I've done this a long time back PC to PC so a friend and I could watch TV together from seperate locations. I searched around and was able to find free apps to set the whole thing up. There are a few webcam apps that have a built in stream server, you can likely find one if you look around.
I got live streaming TV to my TP2 from my computer at home using orb, I use it to watch the world cup when @ work
make sure that when you setup orb, it is able to scan all your channels
then from there you login to mycast.orb.com from Pocket IE and go to TV > guide > then select a channel and hit play
you can set what type of stream orb will beam by going to the orb website in your pc, going to settings and you can pick different stream types so that it will work with whatever media player you chose
Is there anyway to stream local media (video/music/images) from your home pc to the HD2 when both of them are connected on the same network?
My N82 and N97 did that flawlessly, (by media server), was wondering if I can do something similar via Tversity installed on my pc.

I'm not aware of a DLNA client for windows mobile, but TVersity comes with a web interface. Why not just use that?
Or, you can use pocket player with the uPNP plugin to stream audio, I am not sure how well video streaming works though as I never could get it to work satisfactoryly.
download tversity for your pc and get tcpmp player for your phone. I have to look into starting a post about this if there isn't one
I am also interested in this feature. I don't understand why Windows mobile doesn't have some sort of media sharing or media extender feature natively. I would like to be able to connect to my wireless network, turn on file sharing, and play a media file on my TV via my Xbox. I know that the HD2 does not have a video output method (such as the Nokia's, Incredible, Evo, etc), so I would hope to at least be able to make up for it wirelessly.
I was doing this exactly last year with my HD1, using the Network Plugin + CorePlayer/TCMCP so it is possible.
Just browse your network on your HD, find the file, and click Play.
For people who also have a Home Theartre set-up powered by a PC, check out GRemote as a great program to browse files on your HD2 and then launch them/control playback on your TV.

I've been using Orb Networks for years. You download/setup the free server side (your computer) program then on your phone just go to mycast.orb.com and login. From there you can browse your defined folders (I've even set up file browsing on mine), pick a media file and it will stream to your phone via the browser. There is a pay app for Orb but the quality is no better than using your phone's browser. The only advantage I've found it gives you a pretty media library interface. Not worth the $ IMHO.
You will need to play with the stream settings to find the best quality for your connection rate. Seeing that flash is supported in the phone's browser I'd suggest starting there. I generally do a speed test from my browse page if I'm unsure of network quality. On our screens the playback will be a bit blocky but the up side is that if you have a tv tuner on your server you can watch live tv on your phone (or your friends phone, or your laptop, or another computer).

Theres nothing else that I have seen that can stream from your computer to your phone, besides Slingbox, but thats only live tv and dvr. As far as downloading files from the mac to the phone, you can use dropbox, or use a remote desktop app.
can Orb stream .MKV files? i'm really hoping I will be able to stream using windows home server V2 when it comes out this year. They have allow streaming through internet browsers, so hopefully the Evo won't be an exception.

Not sure why you can't msg me, I should be able to receive all msgs.
I've looked into other options but have always come back to Orb. My main reason has been I need 3 or 4 different programs to do what Orb does and may of those require both host and client apps. Another reason has been in order to change settings in many of programs, they require that you be at the host computer.

.MKV works but there's reports of sync issues. All Orb really does is transcode then stream your media in the format you select in your settings
some people stream using vlc and the vlc client for android
Subsonic will do this with very slight modification. See my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789717&page=2
The file locations will be different for a mac, but it's nothing a quick search can't solve ;-)
VLC remote is said to be a good choice as well
