suprisingly, i've received my Vario II today, instead of tommorow, like i was told! so, first impressions:
1) looks just beautiful! much better than on press release's pictures and much better than Vodafone's TyTN!
2) device codename is HERM300, not HERM100 as stated by some people here
3) S/N of my Vario II begins with HT632
4) it is sim locked, but on network, not provider. ie. my Virgin Mobile SIM works in Hermes without trouble (because it uses T-Mobile's network infrastructure), but when i put different network SIM, it asks me about unlocking code
5) ROM versions: ROM 1.21.110.3, date 06/19/06, Radio 1.05.05.00, Protocol 32.36.7010.04H
6) SetHSDPA.exe /Enabled
7) keyboard responsiveness just perfect - all keys seems to work perfect!
so far (after just 15 mins or so), i only can say - it was worth to wait!
Could you update the Hermes_Versions wiki page with your Vario II information? Thanks!

Hi,
My T-Mobile contract has expired, I have a Magican & I like the look of the Wizard but I was wondering is there any major difference with the software that the networks put on? i.e. MDA Vario/XDA Mini S or any other?

Only the software that the different networks put in the extended ROM. The devices themselves are identical.

Hi all,
Firstly, I think this is an excellent phone!
I have the T-Mobile variant (MDA compact 3) but I was gutted today when I found out that T-Mobile de-activated WIFI on it.
Apparently it can be activated ... is there any truth to this? Is there any way to get WIFI working on this phone?
Thanks alot,
Porac69
MDA Compact III and Wi-fi

Ok, what does anyone think about the MDA Vario III its got a 400MHZ processor and from what I"ve heard we maybe getting this device for our newly configured 3G network .... Its a very nice device, but just wanted to know what other people think about this device .....any thoughts..prices,specs,availability,etc???
Thanks to all.
the Vario III is the HTC kaiser in a tmo name. Is the wing even available in Europe?
anyway, hardware-wise, the kaiser wins, but the "driver issue" i guess would be the deciding factor. either way, i'd go with the kaiser.

definitely agree ,but yes we will be trying to use this handset hopefully after summer due to the new 3G network trying to be a 1700 band freq...(not sure thing though) but the tilt even if unlocked isnt suppose to be able to even work on the 3G t-mobile network thats why they are suppose to bring this to us...but yes i think this is used in Europe ... but please explain what u mean aboout the driver issue??havent hear this one....thanks for the input so far.
As stated in an earlier post, I have bought a new HTC Touch Dual on the Orange network.
Which version on Niki is this phone usually (when sold from orange)?
It is the 16 key version.
I have read the wiki, but I am fairly confused about the different types such as Niki 100, 200, 300. What is Neon, and how do you know if your phone is Neon or not?
Thank you in advance
Just look under the accu, remove backcover - accu.
My Device is an htc touch dual - niki100 (NIKI100 is branded on the label)
