Whats the best wifi finder for WM5. I tried a couple but they were not compatable so whats known to work and recommended by users with WM5.
Thanks
WiFi Companion
Worked great for me until I tweaked registry with another program.
Gives a list of available systems, strength, encyption, SSID, etc..
WiFiFoFum and Hitchhiker - only downside is they require .NET CF 2
Think thi smay well answer my query as well.
I did a corporate install and it's great but obviously I lost the o2 wifi directory software. Will wifi companion do what that did and find wifi hotspots and download the necessary settings for connecting?

Hi
I'm looking for a wifi sniffer/snooper similar to mini-stumbler that'll work with the wireless net card of the exec.
Ditto
I know
Try wiFiFoFum (google it I can't remember the link) its a very good sniffer which works on the exec AND supports GPS for wardriving. PS its also FREE
Socket Companion has released a WM 5. compliant WiFi application a few days back. You can have a go at that. Its not free btw.

Excellent software, it was on my list of "Things that I have installed on my IPAQ to try on the Exec".
URL is http://www.aspecto-software.com/WiFiFoFum/
Some other points about the software :- It does not use an installer or CAB so nice and easy, also, make sure you do not use it at the same time as your activestink (USB) connection as it will not pick any WiFi access points up! There should be no reason to change any of the settings in the program to get it to work first time and pick up a AP even if you are already connected to it. Accessing the GPS might be another matter, not tried yet.
For anyone that has not used it yet, try it, its as good, if not better than the "non free" software and yes, it will log the gps location when a AP was found to a file for later incorporating into a TomTom POI for example.
It has issues with landscape display (it doesnt flip) but apart from that the software is fantastic!
ok I've tried wififofum with my leadtec bt gps and it works just fine.
wifi doesn't seem quite as sensitive as the ipaq 3715 but I can live with that!
wififofum all the way!
Does the alpine has wifi? Can i use hotspots? I've checked the apps that come with the alpine and i don't know if i have the necessary app to do so.
I have WM2003SE.
Thanks a lot.
Yes it does, and yes you can!
I suggest a program called Hitchhiker, and also WiFiFoFum. Hitchhiker is an easy to use program that does all the techno stuff of connecting to different WiFi networks, and WiFiFoFum gives you a broad view of the available networks close to you.
You don't require either of these to access WiFi networks, you can simply turn on the WiFi on your Alpine and select the network to use.
thanks a lot!
is there a simple way to check if your built-in wlan device is working properly? I have the "socket wlan tools mobile edition" but when I try to turn the radio on nothing happens, I also installed the "hitchhicker" and i get a message error saying I don´t have a wlan device... what the heck?!
Thanks again

Hi All
I tested CommView® for WiFi PPC but is not working with Windows Mobile 5.0 - Qtek 9100. I see SDIO Wifi card in seting of CommView®. Install this detected driver but then Wifi module by Communication Manager cannot start.
Any Ideas?
Any other Wifi minitor or Wifi sniffer for Qtek 9100 or PPC?
Thanks you for any answear
Try WiFiFoFum, probably the best WiFi scanner for Windows mobile.
Beside regular features similar to many other WiFi programs, this one can find invisible SSID's, has a radar layout, and can be connected with GPS devices... A must have

Great WiFiFoFum is software
I'm looking for some (inexpensive) software to detect wireless networks. Can anyone recommend a good scanning program for my Vario II?
Cheers.

I like Hitchhiker - scans and assists in connection to hotspots.
Also like Wififofum - has a nice radar type screen as an option or just lists networks and details. Does not connect to networks just shows them.
Both above require the .net cf framework 2 to be installed as well
Both are freeware

Sometimes Hitchhiker shows an error on very first start up but ignore it and possible soft reset and should be fine from then on.

The best WiFi scanner
I found this freeware on 8525software.com. Its called WiFiFoFum. I think this is what you're looking for. http://www.8525software.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,27/func,select/id,4/
WiFiFoFum is best
I've a collection of 18 wifi programs, i've tried all of them.
Hitchhiker is good, not invasive like WiFi Companion.
To capture Packets, Airscanner mobile sniffer is the best, but seems that promiscous mode doesn't work on hermes.

I was tempted to purchase wi-fi Companion (it looks great). What do you mean by "invasive"?

Even under wm5 it has a habit of giving this error at first installation. Worth a soft reset and retry.
Mike
has anybody managed to use Hitchhiker on WM6?
I just installed WM6 and for some reason hitch hiker will start, it will find a network, connect and then error and result in me having to do a soft reset.
this program is amazing and MUCH needed since i need to connect wirelessly anywhere i am.
is there a way to get this to work?

Sorry forget to mentioned that i have set the Wlan to "G" on my pocket PC but still no avail.
Hitchhiker on WM6?
Bt: the companion keeps low power on the wlan to save energy, so that's the reason you see only 1-2 mbps, just give more gear on the net and the speed will go higher.
Any news on Hitchhiker or another program with such functionality working well on WM6?? I don't think WFFF do such great job, does it try to connect and resolve net address once discovered a new network?

I don't have news on Hitch and WM6. But WFFF does not assist with the connection. Nice looking radar screen that can give true radar if GPS sotware is in use - other than that if it's something that provides a connection then WFFF is not the one for you. (Curiously a long time ago the developer did have an option to connect but abandoned the option for technical reasons).

Netbox works with WM6
So big thanks for the helmi wm6 ROM which has so *ucking amazing! I have finally installed it on my aging BA m2000! A big thanks to the author of exitbootloader too, without which I would still be in brick mode.
Been playing with wifi networking, and succesfully setup an adhoc wireless connection on vista and used the m2000 with wm6 to connect with no problems. But ummm so does anyone know how I browse, locate, transfer files via the pda from the vista PC. I know my IP address but that's where I am stuck. Do I need an 3rd party app to locate and transfer?
I know there are a few things missing from that ROM such as remote deskop.
BTW wifi to the net seems stable and fully fuctional.
Thanks.
i think that it is not possible as far as i know , i would glade if it exists but i think it's a limitation with the Wifi driver. u can only use wifi for surfing the net . not even ActiveSync ( for security reasons [email protected]?# )
thanks for that. Yer probably right, going keep playing and let brain think about it for a bit see if I can come at it sideways with a sol. I post results if successful
Remote Desktop is available in xplodes zip of cabs. And, yes, you can browse network shares, copy/move files and so on. I have SKTools which can enable this, but you can also do it for free using the PPC version of Total Commander and several other tools.
