XDA Neo sound quality - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

I have just recently purchased a neo xda with the latest rom versions.
My problem is the sound quality of the phone both ends. Receiving and speaking. I'm using a plantronic BT headset and people sometimes say that I sound far away. When not using the BT the sound quality is like listening in a tin can. My treo 650 sounds way better than this!
Is there anything that can be done?

Bad bluetooth headset quality

When listening to music through my HBH-DS970 or IS800 bluetooth headset,
sound quality is so bad. There is no problem with Iphone 3GS and Xperia X1.
Does anybody have same problem like mine? Base sounds crackling.
I use the nokia BH-604 and the sound is great.
no problems so far
I've got a Sony xplod in me car... sound quality isnt very good through the Galaxy S. I prefer my touch hd... Only because the sample rate and and bitpool have been increased.
Think it needs doing on this phone, does anybody know if its possible?
Anyone know how to bump up the bit rate and samples pool on android? Never heard complaints like this about other droids...will certainly look into it.

I have a DS980 and MW600 works great on both..
I am using an Evo 4g, bitpool is fixed at 32 using various bluetooth devices including the mw600. I have searched for a couple of weeks and have yet to find a way to bump this up. The sound is ok but not as good as my windows mobile devices with the registry edits.

Strong hiss on earbuds

I'm hearing a relatively strong hiss on
earbuds when nothing is played,
I think audio quality is good but there's no absolute silence, when it should be,
I'm using some good AKG earbuds so maybe they're too much sensitive
Not expecting an audiophille device but still..
What about your sgs?

Hehe ya that's exactly what I thought... The galaxy s is a good device for music... Also heard the hissing sound but I think that depends on the audio quality of the music track u are listening to... The device s audio quality seems much superior to the ipod touch that I own.. Try listening to a music track converted from a cd or probably a wav file.. There shoukd not be any hissing sound in that.

It should be silent on the GS, it is on mine. What firmware are you on? The earlier ones had a problem with sound output via headphones, but thats been fixed for some time now in later firmwares...
I also find when listening to music not generally aware of this, but when I plug it into a mini jack socket in my car I get a high pitched noise for some reason I cant understand, anyone else get similar?
FWIK, you can't use regular earbuds or mini jack to connect to SGS. The headphone port is wired differently so that a normal earbuds or mini jack connector may not properly connect the ground wire, it connects to the mic-in instead.
There is a dedicated thread talked about this issue specifically.

So I have to use the retail earbuds?
Strange they put standard headphone port..
I`m using the Ritchofen JM9, with flac files, unfortunately, I hear the hiss even when music player is off..

Standard headphone port contains L and R signal only. Almost all cell phones contain mic-in in the port as well. So, no, it is not a simply standard headphone. From what I understand, only the US version, AT&T Captivate can use normal headphones.
go to settings, make sure the TV out option is not turned ON

Earbuds work fine with my sgs.
Do your earbuds have an inline mic because I had the same problem with mine. I found if I pressed the button the noise stopped, and when listening to music the it was louder and good quality.
The problem is that the connections on the earbuds are set up for an iphone headset.
You can get adapters to change between iphone headset and other cellphone head set.

[Q] Audio Quality over HEADPHONES

Hi all play owners,
I am a prospective PLAY owner, evaluating certain features. One of the feature that I use quite often is to listen music.
Please provide your feedback on the audio quality for the purpose of listening music using headphones on xperia play.
Thanks,
Linkrinf
The better the headphones the better the quality, im using quite an expensive pair of sony hedphones and sound quality is excellent.

actually, i was referring to gsmarena review which scared me off when they mentioned this
Quote:
The only problem we had with it is the stereo crosstalk, which spikes intensly when you plug in a pair of headphones. The distortion levels increase too in that scenario, but they still remain tolerable.
btw, which sony headset do you have?

I am using a pair of Sennheiser CX400II's and the quality is amazing, I haven't noticed any distortion or volume issues.
I was also using the Sony WM600 bluetooth headphones, again the sound is great on those with the stock headphones that come with it.

I`m from UK and i have no problem with the sound quality.
The sound is realy good for me.
Thanks can anyone else confirm this aswell, I will be buying s4 this weekend.
Oi! I used the HTC One for 5 months and now S4. I don't see a difference in sound quality over my HIFIMan RE-262 and RE-272.
Also you can use apps like DFX that can push the quality further,Viper4android is a pretty free tool to play with more audio goodies but you need root.
The HTC One is better as inboard speaker(for ringtones) as it uses Beats stereo speakers that's it
that's good then looks like I will be buying a S4.
Thanks
I haven't used the iphone 5 to compare, but I'm using the s4 i9505 with poweramp music app and parrot zik headphones / Bose MIE2i mobile headset, the sound is unbeatable :good::laugh:
Using wesc headphones with my s4. Sound quality is great. Especially with flac files...

Brilliant guys can't wait to get my s4 now.
The S4 has a pretty decent internal speaker and the quality of the output via the headphone jack is good, although it isn't particularly loud when powering a passive speaker. I would recommend, as another user mentioned, Viper4Android as it really improves every aspect of the S4s audio.

I have two Galaxy S4 models: GT-I9500 with Wolfson audio, and SHV-E330S with Qualcomm WCD9320 audio which is slightly improved version of WCD9310 used in GT-I9505.
What can i say... After using I9500, sound quality of E330S sucks.
1) Not as loud as I9500. So you need earphones with good acoustic amplification.
2) Sound is kind of dirty. Not as clear as I9500.
You can use some software audio improving, but if you are real audiophile then you should know that you can't improve quality by software processing. You can make it louder by increasing RMS, but u won't get a better quality than chip capable of.
Qualcomm audio chips are not for those who like to listen the music a lot.
i9505 did have audio issues at launch but was fixed quickly afterwards. There is no issues now
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
so when I get my s4 will I need to update it to the firmware fix.
That's correct, should be an update or it will come with the update already applied.

[Q] Bad bluetooth audio quality

Hey guys. I've been using a N910U for the last month and I love it. The only problem I've had with it is that the bluetooth audio quality for music streaming is really bad, I've used Beats Powerbeats2, Jaybird Bluebuds and my car's stereo and they all sound terrible, high notes are distorted and the overall audio quality is bad. I used to have an HTC One M8 GPe and an iPhone that sounded amazing. I've been reading that increasing the bitpool could work but haven't found anything for the Note 4. Does anyone have a way to fix this?
Thanks!!
