New Rom for ATOM EXEC's available - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

New Rom for ATOM EXEC's available
Introduction
This System Software Upgrade consolidates all the new and previous enhancements and fixes into a single ROM upgrade image. O2 encourages Xda Atom Exec users to upgrade their devices to the following system software.
English ROM
ROM: 20060721B1WWE
Radio: R060711N_MN2ARC_RS00011
ExtROM: EX0033
This System Software Upgrade provides software fixes and improvements for MMS, camera, FM radio, SMS applications.
You can check the core software versions running on your device by going Start > Settings > System > System Info.
Benefits of upgrade include:
• Adds MMS Error Resilient support to MP4 codec for MMS application.
• Adds AIS WAP setting changes to AutoConfigurator application.
• Adds delete email function to Setup Wizard application.
• Adds 9600bps v.110 CSD dialup support.
• Adds new power save mode for FM Radio application. Pressing the power key will put device into power save mode (CPU in sleep mode) to achieve maximum power saving. In power save mode, user can listen to FM radio but device will not respond to any keypress except the power key. Pressing the center action button on the dPad will switch LCD off but device will still remain in IDLE mode (CPU in normal running state). In IDLE mode, user can use the dPad to control FM radio control functions.
• Adds Digital Right Management level 5 (DRM5) support for DRM-protected eBook content.
• Updates O2 Plus to version 2.1.
• Fixes an SMS bug that occurred when sending a long and concatenated text message. This could cause corruption of some part of the sent message.
• Fixes incorrect GPRS status display in Wireless Manager.
• Fixes playback issues with certain MMS content.
• Fixes hang issue when device is about to go into power save mode while camera is still loading.
• Fixes FDN behaviour which now requires PIN2 to be input when modifying the fixed dial number list.
• Fixes a bug that may cause the phone to malfunction when device is in roaming network and network selection is changed between automatic and manual.

enjoy!

problems with the new O2 atom exec rom...
well quite noticeable till now...
The phone coverage becomes poor with the new radio. It was better with the last one that came alongwith...
The speakerphone(loudspeaker) doesn't work quite well. The other party hears noise.
The mic level is quite low. I need to speak while taking the phone close to my mouth.
I am not sure whether the last 2 problems is with the new rom but the phone's reception for sure has worsened... :-(

Can't seem to download the file.
Login failure.
Any kind souls please help to upload somewhere else for download?
Thanks in advance.

Atom Upgrade
The site was slow but I finally got it downloaded. I have not had the radio issues mentioned above. I can't really see any big changes that make this a required upgrade either though. :?

Anyone kind enough to share English ROM for EXEC?
My boss brought a Chinese Version ATOM EXEC and is asking me to help him upgrade to English. Cannot download from O2 Offical Site.
Thanks a lot

I thought everyone had the "search" tab on the screen 8) 8)

Bug / Problem List for the new PPC 2003 ROM

I just want to warn everyone the 2003 rom has many problem, since it is an internal development version. Here is the bugs I found right now.
1.Maybe it's not a "BUG". It miss the Wireless Modem which many people asked for a long time.
2.I tried Windows Media Player and Pocket Music 1.5, both can't turn off the display, which means you have to leave the display on when you listen the music. If any one can turn off the display , please tell us, may be I got some software conflicted.
3. 2 "Power" Logo on the setting menu, but the have different content. It looks like one is the new power setting tab, but it didn't provided some old fuction in the old power setting tab, so O2 kept the old one.
4. The SIM Contacts (Sim utility provided by PPC 2003) is horrible. It has NO fuction except copy the SIM card address to the phone.
5. YOU MUST NOT install Batterypack 2003 on the phone. It looks like working after you install, but your machine will never boot up after a soft-reset except hardreset the phone. (It is PPC 2003 / Battery Pack 2003 problem, not O2 / HTC's fault).
6. You will never know if the current signal support GPRS or not. It will not display the G logo in the "signal bubble".
Please add the list if you got any problem with the new rom.
If the bug I listed can't stop you install the new rom, go ahead  .
Moreover, it's not an official / final version rom, if you want stable rom, stay with XDA SE 1.1 rom.
Sorry for my horrible english~

No, it was added in the new ROMs by Qtek and O2. Whether it's a Microsoft or HTC tool I don't know, but it's definitely not ours...
XDA developer Peter Poelman,
didn't know that. i thought it was urs.
PPC 2003
Hi all
Only autentization to VPN over cetificates is good feature for me.
Another features :?
XDA-dev ROM 1.1 is best solution
It seems the "screen toggle" bug (can't switch off the screen probelm) can be fixed by install the PocketMusic 2.0 Bundle plus the 2.0_4_3 fix.
I can see a hotkey to turrn off display with 2.0 version.
Moreover, the "auto turn off display" fuction still works on the PocketMusic 1.5 Bundle version, and 2.0 too.
It's so strange the PocketMusic 2.0 works but WMP 9.0 doesn't work.
I'm happy with the PPC2003 now. If we have to wait to long beforce the official release, will XDA-Developer release an extra SE version based on the current version of PPC2003?
It still suffers fron some sms issues, i cant get a delivery receipt, and also the time sent stamp is actually the time received.
The auto config does not work, so as a result i can't get gprs working...
(Anyone know the settings for o2 uk ?)
All in all though a good upgrade !!
i loaded the 2003 rom and only have minor issues.
1. when connecting the network says voicestream instead of t-mobile.
2. connection seems slower even with the accelerator proxy turned on. the connection used to be as high as 40k according to spb gprs monitor. now i haven't seen it break 20k.
Unit no longer powers-on when placed in sync cradle; In order to sync the unit I now have to either (a) make sure unit is turned-on before placing it into cradle, or (b) place powered-off unit in cradle, then turn power on.
Not a major issue, but certainly a back-step in functionality. Anyone else notice this?
I'm using a TMobile XDA with updated ATT radio stack and PPC2003.
To Dondi :
I have your issue too, but I didn't think it is a problem for me, since I hate the machine suddenly power on itself when I am charging it.
i guess it s even better for the screen not to be lighted all the time when plugged on the cradle
Hey all. I just installed WM2003 PE. It looks and feels great. I only have the following comments:
I have installed the ROM on my Qtek 1010.
1. I can't seem to see any MIDI ringtone support on this one (probably because it's not a final release)
2. I'm still running on my old Radio Version 3.23 and my GPRS resumes connection seamlessly after calls - which is great.
3. I've read somewhere that applications will be visible on the 'taskbar' when running, but do not get this functionality also. No worries on this though, because 'Switch' works fine with WM2003.
4. Still no ability to add custom Operator Logos.
5. Hooray for the 'Busy' tone and indication!
SPB GPRS Monitor works fine with 2003. I also wanted to know from the rest of you guys: Do you have to manually initiate GPRS connectivity after a soft-reset? Or does it pick up your default connection and auto-connect?
To killercheung and Cyberb0b: You've given me a new perspective on the XDA not automatically switching on when placed in the cradle in the off state -- I appreciate the benefits you pointed out.
Also, I did notice that when I initially loaded the Ozone beta (prior to upgrading radio stack) the GPRS symbol was being displayed regularlyand I had no problem connecting with GPRS and getting decent performance (> 20 Kbps). However, after I convinced myself to "go all the way" and also perform the Radio Stack update, I now rarely see the GPRS symbol, and GPRS perfirmance has dropped to the 1Kbps level.
Now I wonder if Ozone also updated the radio (which I perhaps subsequently "downgraded" by loading the ATT RSU). Can anyone shed some light on this?
for what i ve seen Ozone does not modifiy the radio stack, you have to upgrade it yourself useing for exemple the O2 upgrade version 4.21.
As far as i m concern using GPRS in France with Orange as operator with SE 1.1 or with ozone i have the same brandwith capacity depending on the network trafic and my position, between 10 and 30 Kbps, i use SPB GPRS manager to monitor my connexion 24/7 and see what is my data consumption day by day (it also allow me to shut GPRS off without switching the phone off).
by now using ppc2003 for about a week, i have no gprs shut down, except going out of coverage area, we poor french are not full gprs anywhere, but it works pretty good in cities.
on thing i ve notices that i guess is significant :
however it is said that Gprs connexion isn t dropped any more when an incoming CSD call start, that is true but the transmissions are stopped.
I mean i can not send or recieve data while talking on the phone line. But this is not due to the software i guess it is due to the number of channels aviable on the device usually it s 4 + 1 or 4 + 2
whereas phones like SE P800 have 6 + 4 channels allowing the to really exchange data while using CSD channel.
But nevertheless it is a good upgrade cause i do not have to kill my irc session while talking on the phone (just have to hang up fast before the irc timesout ) ).

Haven't had any other problems though!
ROM v4.00.01
Radio v6.18.00
T-Mo PPC on T-Mo USA
I get a lock-up on the splash screen after a soft reset. It might have something to do with Battery Bar ap. :?
I'm running it with pocket plus and PI 4.5 as well as SPB full screen keyboard and hasn't had any locks up as well. as for the SD card being formatted i saw this happen to my friend's sandisk 64mb card running 0zone 3 version of ppcpe 2003.
alex
I haven't had any of these problems. Using an SX-56 with Radio A20.10 and ROM 4.00.01 ENG Dated 5/16/03, protocol 324e4. Using ATTWS service.
me too i haven't had any problems. using Qtek 1010 Radio 4.21.00 & ROM 4.00.01 ENG dated 5/16/03, protocol 324e4 using MTCNet services every thing running very well

No such problems so far. However, here are some bugs I have noticed:
1. The phone seems to have difficulty in re-acquiring the GSM signal after it has been out of coverage for a while. I sometimes have to switch if off and then on again when I get back to coverage.
2. GPRS - The speeds seem better, but there seems to be an issue with connecting to GPRS as the device refuses to connect sometimes even when it is supposedly GPRS-Attached ('G' icon present).
3. I use PocketNAV and keep finding this application 'HTC SAT' listed as one of the running programmes. Cant figure out what this one is.
4. If you go into contacts from the phone screen and close the contact screen without actually making a call, the contact on top of the list seen earlier will appear on the phone screen. On many occassions I thought I had wrongly dialled numbers that I never meant to call, but when I figured this issue out I was relieved that I hadnt accidentally made all those international calls.....
5. SMS WORKS LIKE A DREAM. The name of the contact still appears when you click reply, but you dont have to delete it anymore - the message goes through even if you dont. SMSs seem to be sent much faster, too...
CHeers
I can go into contacts and close it and go to the phone and it does not show the last contact selected. I suspect that this may be do to one of your applications. I have the following applications loaded:
1. SPB Pocket Plus (Latest version that work on 2003)
2. MobiPassword (Eval)
3. Fonix 1.2EN & UL Roger Voice
4. Pocket Plan (Eval)
5. PHM Registry Editor
6. Converter CE
7. Mapopolis
8. Acrobat Reader
9. Access NetFront3
10. Sprite Backup
11. Portmith Ipresent
12. Spamfilter (beta)
13. MidCast (Eval)
14. Pocket Explorer
None of these appear to cause any problems. Only SPB Pocket Plus and Fonix are loaded in RAM. All others on on SD card. I hope this helps.
(See above for ROM Versions)
SD Card Erasing on WM2003 - Solved!
I have also had that problem.
It happened to me TWICE, but after some really lengthy investigation, I have figured out what causes it--
It's the new 'Pictures' application! TURN OFF the 'Detect digital camera' option, and your problem will go away!
Hope this helps everyone. I HIGHLY suggest everyone do this NOW! It's not a good thing to loose an entire 256MB card full of documents and programs!
You the Man, thanks!
I have installed the wm2003 4.00.01 rom Yesterday.
I must all looks good and every ting i use works.
BatteryPack 2003 V5 does some strange things when I have the phone app open.
If I open a speed dail and later the call history, I can't close the call history or the Phone.
When I want close the call history, it will show the speed dail, and when I close this one it will show me the call history.
I will have to press the green answer button to get the phone app back on my screen.
Which I cant close because it will open the call history or speed dail.
Any one any solutions to this problem.
As has been stated by mnay users Battery Pack has problems. I wouldn't advise anyone to load it until you are convinced that these problems have been fixed.
I have noticed one minor inconsistent problem. After synching devise on cradle and leaving it there, after removing it from cradle it soemtimes will not recconect to the GPRS even though a G shows. A soft reboot and it will connect fine. Other times I just wait a while and it recconects fine.
I also noted on another site that was testing connections that in the fully released version it keeps track of your connection time. Nice feature once we get the release version.
I love the fact that email polling really works the way you would think it would now. Even after the device shuts itself off, it continues to get email. I set mine to 5 minutes, so it is almost like having push email. After seven days of usage I am still impressed.
Using the second WM2003 beta, 4.20.1081 build 13100, ROM 4.00.01 ENG, Radio A.20.10, Protocol 324e4, on the US T-Mobile system, my PPCPE is working flawlessly in the North Texas area. I was having severe GPRS problems after the update, but replaced my three year old Vstream SIM with the latest generation and that fixed the problem immediately.
The only inconvenience I have encountered is the fact that Omega One products (Battery Pack and Journal Bar) do not work even though the Omega One website claims compatibility in the product information section. According to the user forums on that site, beta versions exist but are problematic.
As stated by others previously, stay away from their products for now. I miss Journal Bar!
David
AGREED ABOUT WM2003, ALTHOUGH I LIKE THE ALWAYS ON INTERGRATED GPRS ON THE OPERATING SYSTEM SIDE AND CONNECTIVITY FEATURES.
THERE ARE A LOT OF BUGS AND ISSUES, I'M WAITING FOR THE XDA WM2003 SPECIAL EDITION TO BE RELEASED
ANYONE GOT A ESTIMATE TIME IT'LL BE OUT?

Confirm KJAM bugs?

Can anyone else confirm these bugs I'm seeing?
ROM: 1.1.9.3
Radio: 01.01.10
ExtROM: 1.1.9.104
1. I've got a 1Gb Sandisk MiniSD inside with a ton of WMA files that synced over through Media Center 2005. If I'm playing them through Media Player 10.1, then stop and shut off the device for a while, when I turn back on.. Media Player doesn't remember what song it was at, and doesn't seem to recognize the library/playlist until I reselect it in the Library view. Has anyone else seen this happen?
2. On the Today screen I have a big triangle icon in the title bar that normally means I've registered on a GSM network. With previous Windows Mobile versions, it just shows up when registration is made and then goes away. For me it won't go away.
3. Sending MMS Messages on T-Mobile USA does not work. I have entered all the correct settings that worked with previous versions of MMS composer, but the MMS won't send. Has anyone found a registry edit or something to fix this?
4. MMS composer does not support soft keys. This is an obvious application bug. It looks so stupid having old legacy menus in the new Windows Mobile 5 Inbox application.
5. Connections don't show up in the Connectivity bubble on the title bar icon. I have a T-Mobile USA GPRS connection set up in the connections control panel, but it doesn't show up in the Connectivity bubble unless it's connected. There's a disconnect button when it's connected, but no connect button when not.
6. Skype doesn't launch. I've done a hard reset, and the default installation of Skype does not open at all.
7. Power control panel doesn't support moving between tabs using the Directional Button.
8. No way to set the device to complete power off mode.
9. PhonePad SIP occasionally will not open. SIP reverts back to previously used SIP method.
10. Can't navigate between levels in Media Player 10 Library mode.
I think the first 5 are the most important to me. Please feel free to add other bugs to this list.
Nobody else sees any of these problems?
I figured out #3 and #8.
I'm also seeing occasional phone problems, like not updating the reception level in dead spots and taking much longer to re-register on the network after leaving a dead spot.
Soft resetting takes way too long as well.
can only answer the non-local questions (i'm in the uk)
and havn't tried all you are talking about.
media player does not remember where you were,
skype does work for me,
can turn the unit completely off.
i know that is only 3 from your list, but it is a start.
to turn the device off completly you need to hold the power button down until a message comes on the display then click ok and it will power off. to switch it back on hold the power button down until it comes back on

I think the first 5 are the most important to me. Please feel free to add other bugs to this list
I had a devil of a time getting MMS to work on TMO USA. Finally someone on HoFo PPC Forum suggested that I use the T-Mobile USA Settings .cab file on Club iMate under Wizard Support, Operator Settings. This did not work the first time but after a hard reset, I installed this .cab first thing and then MMS worked with no more problems so far.
The No Conections thing is my biggest beef with the Wizard as I have several apps that will not initiate a GPRS connection under WM5. Having to start PIE to establish a connection is just plain stupid. They should have put a GPRS button in Connection Manager instead of an Active Sync button. At least you can end a GPRS connection by holding down the End button for about 5 secs.
Hope this helps.
Forget to mention about Softkeys support. I hope what you mention is simply an oversight on the part of the app developer. I hope that as apps get upgraded to WM5 and as new apps get written that developers will pay attention and allow softkey and d-pad access to menus, exit button, etc. I personally hate to have to pull out and fumble with a stylus, especially to do one simple thing on an app that could have provided d-pad support.
wanna to know before buy
how about the camera quality? any chance if anyone kindly post some demo pic taken by Wizard....
Also the CPU performance is that fast? whether Skype in the default installed out of the factory?
ManyTHx
I think that the camera quality is about equivalent to the Treo 650, better than the Jam or Eten 500. But I haven't used it enough to check out all its features.
The CPU performance is adequate with a small number of apps running - not as crisp feeling or nearly as fast as my Samsung i730 which is the fastest PPC I have used to date. However, the battery life is very good - much better than the 730. I think that the KJAM is a nice trade off between performance and battery life.
Skype is included in ROM from the factory. I know nothing about it as I deleted it from the Extended Rom, along with the anti-virus and smart dialer apps.

The second page of my review above has some camera quality and full-resolution examples (towards the bottom).
CPU performance is not as fast as the imate JAM, but the battery life is way better.

Looks like I found a way to fix that problem! Reformatting the MiniSD card and re-syncing with Media Center 2005 seems to have fixed it. Now Media Player 10.1 on my KJAM remembers which track was playing between suspend sessions.

If I do this, Will I lost all data (as the pop up message say so ? )
thanks
You will lose data if the any applications that are running (that are not designed for WM5) and dont flush their data when they receive notification that the system is about to be powered off. But in general it should be ok.

WLAN and Power Management

Good Morning all
firstly a big thankyou to everyone who contributes here, I couldnt couldnt count the number of times Ive found little fixes for those annoying "features" that HTC devices seem to have.
Anyway, one such problem I seem to be having is battery drain due to my WLAN refusing to switch off. The function is switched off in connection manager but is very much switched on as every time I pass an access point I get an annoying bubble asking me if I would like to connect.
I tracked the problem down to something changing the "DisablePowerManagement" registry key. When I changed the value back to 0 the WLAN was switched off after a reset, however within 3-4 hours it changed again which leads me to believe it is caused by software I have installed at some point.
I wondered if anyone could advise on similar issues and resolution and also, is there a way to disable the popup bubble when a new Access Point is found as it causes me a nightmare with TomTom.
Device and software details below
Device - Orange SPV M5000(AKU2 build with Hacked ROM to install custom apps)
Software:
TomTom Navigator 5.21
PocketWinCe
PocketAlarm
Automatic SMS reply
GSPocket
Mobicontrol Client
Anton Tomov Battery Analyser
Age of Empires Gold Edition(Come on, we all love games)
PPC Tablet Client

things need to be fixed in official ROM update?

what do you think, I think one of the most important is about the huge power consumption when using GSM (that is including HSPA) data connection....yes, my X1 an play music 1.75 hours with -as indicated- 10% battery drop, BUT THE SAME LEVEL OF DROP is achieved if I use my X1 to browse with GSM connection in just below 1 hour! *mind you that I wasn't downloading, that means that isn't a 100% constant connection traffic usage*
will they ever release a ROM update? when? I mean, Samsung for example, already released more than 4 ROM update for OMNIA, it will be UNACCEPTABLE if SE doesn't do that
From what I've heard from SE support there is an update imminent. -"At the latest, two weeks before christmas"... that's like, today.
Wouldn't bet any money on it reaching us before xmas though. SEs pretty good at not meeting deadlines, as we all know.
Id like an autolock, bigger dialer button option, send and recieve all email accounts at once, select/delete multiple emails, keep copys of emails and louder mp3 ringtones please, for Xmas!
Im sure there are others I cant think of at the moment .

press and hold stylus/finger for about 500ms then drag up or down to select multiple mails.
Also good for selecting multiple contacts. It's not just simple press and drag, press a little long (around 500ms) then drag
it works and it's easy
And to be ontopic
- better today interface(using OpenGL of course) that should include shortcuts to: - communications manager(turn off/on quickly for bluetooth,wifi and data connections);
- calls;
- weather;
- day and clock & alarms;
- a field with quick launch for user chosen applications.
So far i did not encounter any problem with radio functions(bluetooth, wifi and gsm/3g/umts connection). (Bluetooth does not turn off completely, it's entering a suspend state, and resumes instantly when needed - that's why i don't need any app to keep bluetooth on)
-better design to calls, and quicker response;
-optimization of graphic drivers;
-panels 2 and 4 are crapp. should be redesigned. I tried them and since then never launched again. Useless.
-try to include usb mass storage option when connecting to pc (an option to choose between active sync and mass storage);
- try to unlock Qualcomm's function to recognize an external card reader, or stick when connected to Xperia as a drive , so i can read&write on them
- more (usefull) panels for Download
- speed improvement on loading panels
- not showing the dummy panel while panel is loading
- fixing some bluetooth issues
- Browse Filesystem for Multimedia Files in Panel (not only by ID3-Tags)
- Fast switch between GSM and 3G(UMTS) in Comm Manager
- Native Remapping of Camera Button

you have Vodafone branded Xperia?? If yes, get rid of branding and do a HasrSPL reFlash with generic UK ROM. Signal pretty good, if not excellent!
Vodafone branding craps signal. It's a fact!
Oh, i forgot: There is a must in new firmware -
-redesign of camera interface, and unlock the real video recording capabilities of the machine, with possibility to choose from 3gp to mp4. For the moment, video recording is crap for what the hardware can do.
-camera should store the last settings used when taking picture, like flash on.
- adding the possibility to sync shutter speed with flash(take pictures in the night whitout long exposure time, just as the flash lights).

Yeah I did have a Vodafone branded X1 but I have flashed it with the generic UK ROM and the signal is still crap, I get 2 bars then during calls it drops signal and then searches for a signal and then 2 bars magically appear, I call the person back and it drops again. It only seems to happen in areas that don't have a strong signal, but I never had any problems in these 2 bar signal areas with all my previous mobiles.
